records were packed too tight. I couldn't really see anything. seems like he had some things if u dig worth getting but a lot of stuff that's not punk and probably not worth having in there.

Factory Records has a great selection of music especially punk! Dave was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions! I will definitely be coming back here to pick up some more cassettes and vinyl! *If you're into cassettes, there's a whole wall of them!

As a card carrying New Order fan, I made a point to drop by Factory Records. Dave James named this indie record store after the label that put out so many of New Order's hard-hitting hits. So, how does it feel to be a customer of Factory Records? Dave James and the mgmt. treated me quite well. And, I am not at all mistaken. They were exceptionally helpful during my tiny stroll through this properly stocked record store. Dave James and the mgmt. even let me dig through some of the to be priced vinyls, and, if I may say so, there were some glistering gems in the stack of wax. The collection of records already on the floor were most dope too. Dave James keeps this machine purring with plenty of shiny liquid vinyl from all genres of music. Though this store is small in square footage its horde of beats be grandiose. I found good 80s, Italo, Funk, Rock, Jazz, and World music without having to walk the vast expanses of a larger store. Dave James knows how to pick them, price them, and put them in the bins. The outlandish and absurd sales Factory holds to turn out records might be its most outstanding quality. This place regularly has half off sales and $1 dollar record sales. Be on the watch; factory has dealt warehouses worth of records thus far. I'm sure there is plenty more on the assembly line where that came from. One record I picked out from the heaps at Factory was a .50 cent 7" of "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. The sales at this place are practically giveaways. Thank you Factory Records for treating me like you do.

Incredible selection for such a small place. Great pressing if you're a collector. The vinyls are labeled with great info on your selections. Great pricing depending on rarity of course. Overall a superb place. Definitely looking forward to making this a weekend ritual.

would have left without buying these but what the hell, we made the drive.

So my 11 year old daughter & I just drove 35-40 mins to Factory. Upon arrival, I ask the employee sitting in front of the opened door restroom if I could use the restroom and the conversation goes as follows: Me: "Hello good sir, may I please use your restroom?" Employee: "Restroom is for customers only." Me: "Um, I am a customer." Employee: "Chuckles" try next door at the bar. Me: Straight face. My daughter is 11 sir. There's a sign on the bar that says over 21 only. Employee: "Sorry, I don't even let my employees use the restroom." Me: huh!? "Oh-kay, is there another close besides the bar?" Employee: "Is it for you or her?" Me: in my head I'm thinking does it make a difference? But I say "sure it's for her, I'll hold it" At this point my daughter is uneasy and says nevermind but I still need to go. Employee: "OK, you guys can use it." Me: "Thank you sir." We both use the restroom and I pick out my $110 purchase. After paying for my records, Employee: "Oh I didn't know you guys were customers or I would have let you use the restroom." Me: I'm thinking "is this guy high or were we just discriminated against?" I say "I just told you we were customers as soon as I asked to used the restroom. Employee: silent and befuddled We left with our records in tote and I had to give my daughter a lesson on discrimination on the ride home. Poor customer service today and that's never the case when I come here. I left in complete shock and embarrassed. I've spent hundreds if dollars here and it's sad that today's trip has lead me to decide to never visit again. You never know who your customers are so treat them with respect and good service. I happen to be a documentarian who specializes in documentary films about record stores and this place was on my prospect list to potentially film and highlight soon. Can't say that's the case anymore. Spent about $200 here this week and left completely bummed about the service and such today. Would I recommend Factory? Sure. Will I ever go back, unfortunately not and I really liked this place but that left such a bad impression on myself and my daughter. Hopefully management see this and fixes it. Peace.

For some, the overlooking image of Baphomet incorporated into the store logo might freak them out if given to superstitious beliefs. I originally thought the owner might have been a Venom fan, that quasi-Satanic proto-thrash band from England who inspired the now veteran bands Slayer, Metallica and Exodus to name but a few. However, the guy working clarified that the owner merely liked the image and it didn't have any esoteric or metal origins. So that settles that. See attached image. It's small and quite full of records inside. I daresay my collection at home is approaching this level of clutter, but what clutter it is! The overwhelming preference is clearly old records, and while there are some new and used CDs, they are more of an afterthought compared to the well organized and labeled vintage vinyl. I appreciated the information on the outer bags regarding record release dates, years of issue and so on. The higher end jazz records, usually old Mono recordings from the 50s with 'deep groove' labels, fetch a high price on eBay. The advantage here is that they are play graded with listening notes, not merely visually assessed. Believe me, I've encountered plenty of mint looking records that sounded like hell, and scuffed looking ones that played back angelically. In this expensive side of the hobby, honest transparency is much appreciated. Primarily a scouting run, my first visit won't be the last and the store is located near Hi-Times Cellars, Sidecar Donuts, Chronic Tacos and other establishments off 17th Street in Costa Mesa. Prices are fairly consistent with the current trends I've marked in LA and the IE. The difference is they deliver! I inspected many records and found them to be clean and well kept, so a bird in the hand is better than one or two potential duds purchased online sight unseen. Collecting Tip: the pressing plant sometimes matters and not all records of the same title sound alike. If you like Led Zeppelin, look for (MO) on the label, it indicates the former Monarch Record plant in LA. Many collectors opine these sound better than ones pressed by Presswell or Columbia House amongst others used by Atlantic Records in the 1970s.

    Most are from factory!

Been coming to factory for a couple years now I love this store the guys are great always an amazing selection and the dudes know their music I always find a gem of an LP when I go digging! Cannot wait to go back in like a week or so!

Maybe it's the proximity of this particular location to Japanese businesses or perhaps there's just…read moresomething about this part of OC, but I found this Bookoff to be a delight. Sure, the parking can be hectic sometimes. After all, there is a Tokyo Central right next to it, but that's what makes this location so good. You can spend hours perusing the aisles for some good finds but can take a break and get some Pocky or a bento or a Fanta nearby without ever breaking theme. What's even better is it feels like the employees enjoy working here. They greet you warmly when you walk in and that hospitality Japan is known for is reflected in this staff, even if they aren't Japanese and this isn't Japan; the spirit still carries. So does the nostalgia walking through the aisles. If you played video games throughout the 90s to now you'll see pieces of your childhood everywhere you look: a Super Famicom with Chrono Trigger for sale or a Vegeta action figure going Super Saiyan or the many mangas of Rumiko Takahashi such as Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha. In encapsulates otaku culture through the ages well. Even looking for books of different genres and authors can be found, some new but most used. It doesn't mean they aren't good. It just means they're pre-loved. This means you can get a bargain for some books you might have been meaning to check out for a great price. They also have book sales all the time. If you feel a need to lighten your collection at home, whether it be action figure or games you no longer play, Bookoff buys them from you. It means your cash could go even further if you have things to sell. Though the size of Bookoffs in America does have me wishing they were larger like their Japanese counterparts they do pack quite a lot for the space they occupy. You can spend 15 minutes to multiple hours here, depending on what you're looking for. I say that means it's worth checking out. After all, the worst that can happen is if you don't find anything to tickle your fancy you can always go to Tokyo Central or IKEA right after.

I love this spot. It's one of the OGs, and I've been coming here for a long time. There are some…read moregenuinely great finds--plenty of $1 items, solid deals on DVDs, and every once in a while something really special slips through the cracks. That said, the pricing is all over the place. It's obvious they rely heavily on some kind of algorithm to assign value, and when it works in your favor, it really works. I've picked up items worth hundreds of dollars for a few bucks. But the flip side is rough--things priced at $100 that you could easily find for $10-15 elsewhere. That inconsistency is both the magic and the frustration. Selling to them is another story. They'll give you next to nothing unless it's something truly high-end, and even then, you're usually better off selling elsewhere. The margins are so far off at times that it really makes you wonder who's willing to take those deals. They do require ID and seem to follow the rules, but the reality is this kind of setup attracts people who either don't know what they have, don't care, are impatient, or are desperate. And yes, it also likely attracts people unloading stolen goods because they know the items are valuable, even if the payout is low. The store itself is very DIY. Nothing is cataloged, staff can't really help you with inventory, and what you see is what's available. Customer service is minimal--they're mostly focused on sorting and loss prevention. There's also an awkward dynamic between management and floor staff that you can feel when you're in there. At the end of the day, this place is a gamble. Sometimes you walk out feeling like you scored big. Other times you find something rare and exciting that's priced so high it might as well be untouchable. It almost screams desperation and lack of knowledge on the selling side--but ironically, that's exactly what brings in so much good stuff. If you know what you're doing and have patience, this place can be incredible. If not, it'll just feel chaotic.
