I fell in love with Amoeba the second I walked in the door! I love shopping for vinyls and I was super excited to be in LA and get a chance to visit Amoeba for the first time. There is SOOO much stuff, not just vinyls but tons of collectibles, clothes and all kinds of other gifts. Everything is by genre and really nicely organized. I was able to find 3 vinyls I had been looking for and the prices were great! They also offer parking validation with a purchase which is really awesome and they have a parking garage right next door.

This place is awesome! Where else can you find a music shop selling everything from records to random tchotchkes? I loved browsing the shelves to discover cult classic films, music from various genres and countries. There's a wide variety of items, so there's something for everyone! Need CDs for an older car? Check. Hipster with a record player? They've got vinyls. Seeking obscure 90s grunge? They've got it! Magnets for the fridge? Check. I love seeing all the different musical posters. It got me thinking about the posters I used to have in my dorm room. Do you remember which ones you had on your wall? I will definitely be back soon!

This place is insane, huge, loud and packed with people. They didn't have any System of The Down or Offspring t-shirts for my guys. The line to pay was so long, I just said, "forget it." It was definitely sensory overload. The employee helping me was great. 12/27/25

Awesome store with great BOOK SECTION!!! Was expecting a bunch of vinyls, but they have everything here - CDs, vinyl, band shirts, random merch, and they even have books!!! The book section took me by surprise. It's a small but mighty selection!! They not only have new/used music-related books, but also straight up new/used fiction (I saw Stephen king, Harry Potter, fantasy, murder mystery, manga even!)! I bought a used copy of John and Paul: A Love Story in Songs, since I am a huge Beatles fan. I bought the book "used" but it looked totally new to me! Decent value, although my book was expensive there were many for $5-$10. I'll be back every now and then to check out the selection, now that I know about this awesome store!

Was in town for a Laker game and my son really wanted to stop here. Came in on a Saturday and the place was pretty busy. There's a lot to see for any genre lover. Staff dos a great job of moving things along well. We will definitely be back again when we're back in town.

I frequent LA a lot and Amoeba records is definitely one of those places that has become my home away from home. I've been a patron for many, many ,many years ( I do miss their old location ) and whenever I have family & friends in town, this is always on the top of my list to bring them. I'm very old school (I don't even have social media) and nostalgic, so I thoroughly enjoy listening to my music on vinyl, cassette tapes and watching movies on VHS. Amoeba has all this ready and organized, with even hard to find pressings. The store is huge, with a great ever changing inventory! Collectibles, clothing, books, posters, turntables, etc., they legit have it ALL! Sometimes they host listening parties or have a DJ spinning occasionally. Check their website for the latest news. Even if you don't buy anything, it's a great place to walk around and look at things. I personally have never left empty handed. Here are some key points when visiting: * Parking garage available on Argyle St. (half a block south from Amoeba). If you make a purchase, make sure you give the cashier your cell # to get a parking validation code good for 75 minutes! * NO public restrooms! * Store is handicap accessible and pet friendly. * Security at the door that you must check in all large bags, no exceptions. * If you are there to sell, check in at the front counter and they will call your name over the speaker when they are ready for you. * Cool photo booth in the corner is a must! * Rare pressings & collectibles are high up on the poles or in casing's, hit up the information counter and staff will grab it for you and hold it at the front checkouts when you're ready. * Small 2nd story has books and posters. Wheelchair lift available. * Don't forget to crate dig under the counters also, they have so much inventory they can't fit it all. * Staff is super chill and very helpful, if you can't find what you're looking for stop and ask the information counter. * Always long lines to check out, but it does move quickly. Now they won't hand you your purchase at the counter. They greet you back at the entrance and hand it to you to avoid anyone with sticky fingers (if you know what I mean). Definitely add this under places to visit when in LA. Enjoy.

This place is a vintage music collector's mecca!!! You will find lots of vinyl and cd's of different genres. They have imports, singles, and live versions of music. There are also stickers, shirts, hats, posters and various other band/ movie merch. Some of the posters are original and are a little pricier. I came away with a vinyl of The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, which is a band that my younger son has recently exposed me to. We are definitely going back for more!!!

Amoeba Music is up there as one of the best and most extensive record shops not just in California, but America! This spot is located right in the heart of the Hollywood area where there is a nearby parking garage that validates with a purchase or street parking all around the area. Inside, they have a massive setup with records organized nicely by genre. Wifey and I spent a while perusing around and found so many gems that we have not seen at other shops. I ended up getting a Dijon, Clairo, Gunna, Bryson Tiller, and Majid Jordan vinyl and let my wallet take the damage. Overall, we really enjoyed our time crate digging here. They have such a large collection at affordable prices as well. All of the staff here are friendly and welcoming. If you are looking to start or expand your record collection, this is definitely one of the shops you should prioritize checking out!

I do not have a record player or a cd player or anything anymore but I wanted to go in to see this place. Let me tell you, it has everything you can think of when it comes to records, cd, dvd, tapes, etc. They have a lot of clearance items and the prices are pretty good considering a lot of the items are valuable. This made me want to buy a record player! When you come in you have to check in your bag. They do this to avoid stealing. Not a problem! The service is great here!

Just one of the best places to buy music ,books ,DVDs, Posters . It's a great place to just come check out whenever you're in Hollywood . They have validated parking just south of the record store . So many things to see , service is great very knowledgeable employees. Some things are great prices and some little bit more.

i live in the apartments upstairs and ameoba is an incredible neighbor. we love coming in for music, gifts, posters for our walls, all of it! the merchandise is robust, employees are excellent, and our dog Winni is very welcome (truly tries to pull us in for the treats and love every time we walk by--even the dog bowl at the front door is so lovely). this morning, i'm out for a walk with Winni and noticed the new banner above their door. a strong, important statement for this high-visibility Hollywood spot!! now i couldn't love them more. thanks for being our neighbor

Aside from your automatic raffle entry of potentially seeing your music idol, i love coming here to find good vibes, friendly and knowledgeable staff and sickest merch ever. They also have a cute photo-booth that prints strips or 4x6 singular photo, i strongly recommend checking it out.

    Daveed T.

Amoeba Music is an absolute classic and still one of the best record stores around. Huge selection across vinyl, CDs, movies, and merch--you can easily lose an hour just browsing. Staff is knowledgeable and the vibe is exactly what you'd hope for from an iconic music spot. Only reason for four stars instead of five is that some used vinyl prices felt a bit high compared to other shops, and it can get pretty busy at peak times. That said, the selection and atmosphere more than make up for it. If you love music and physical media, this place is still a must-visit.

Is there a vaccine card requirement to enter?

No. Proof of vaccination is not required to shop at Amoeba.

    How is parking?

Free 90-minute validated parking in their underground parking garage.

Are they checking your vax card to go in?

No but last time we were there masks were required to enter.

Do they buy old CDs (not in cases but I still have the cover art)?

That depends on the music or artist, quality of CD, and they usually will just give you store credit.

Does anyone know if the new amoeba still has the photo booth available or not anymore?

Yes, we still have the photo booth! It's near the front of the store, under the "peace through music" neon.

    Is parking free for customers?

Yes! We validate parking for 75 minutes with purchase. The entrance to the building's parking garage is on Argyle, near the corner of Selma, behind the store.

    Are pets allowed inside?

Yes. I've taken my dogs many times.

    Has Amoeba reopened?

Yes! We reopened in April in our new location at 6200 Hollywood Blvd. Come by and see us!

Have you opened your new location?

Look on Google they are about or they have already opened the new place on Hollywood boulevard, to me it sucks literally, the Amoeba concept and great environment has died on Sunset, they should have never moved away from this great location. The… Read more

Yes, you can! Check out our buy-sell-trade policies for more information about selling us used DVDs & more: https://www.amoeba.com/our-stores/buy-sell-trade/

What are their Christmas Eve hours?

Hi Kristen! Amoeba Hollywood is open 9am-8pm on Christmas Eve (the trade counter is open 10am-6pm).

From a scale from 1 to 10 how likely are you to find an album you're looking for?

It all depends. If it's out-of-print and the only way to get it is used you may just be lucky and find a used copy as the selection of used LPs and CDs is quite extensive.

Are there vinyl record listening stations?

    No, there are not.

Do any of you know what the 25 cent health and benefit tax is for?

What I've found; The administration laid out an infrastructure plan on Monday that aims to turn $200 billion in federal money into $1.5 trillion by leveraging local and state tax dollars and private investment. While the administration has not… Read more

    Is there wifi?

Yes. Go up to info counter and they will give you a pin code.

Do they sell concert tickets? There's a Neck Deep show at The Fonda and I hear they sell tickets for lower fees?

    Yes they sell tickets.

    Is there a bag check?

Yes, there is a podium area with a guard and a sign that says to check bags. If you volunteer to show your purses and canvas bags, the guard most likely will dismiss checking them in, as they did with mine. They have security watching from upstairs… Read more

It opens into a maze of rooms, each with its own personality, filled with carefully arranged books that feel more like art than inventory.
