High Fidelity is a great record store with easy parking on the street and the nicest people to help you find the vinyl you want or help you fix your old turntable. The employees know everything about music, they know where everything is located in the store and they will help you all you want or leave you be--up to you. They even have records in great shape for just a dollar. There harder to find stuff is reasonably priced. They have parts for your turntable if you need. The place looks huge, but it is not, some is for storage. You will find whatever you are looking for. Have the best time. read more

High Fidelity is a place to buy vinyl records (who sells and buys these things anymore?). I stopped by here with a friend of mine last Saturday afternoon since we were down the street at a shopping event. Her husband has a record player so she was interested in coming in to take a look. The store itself seems to be pretty big, but only a small part of the store is open to customers (the rest is used for storage). There was definitely a good amount of boxes of records to shift through (categorized by the type of music) and also some wooden boxes and record players for sale. But the best part of the store has got to be the $1 records, plenty of boxes to look through (just sit on the floor or kneel down and flip through). My friend ended up getting a Christmas album for a mere $1 (prior to tax). Although this store seems kind of rad, I can't say I would come back because I don't have a record player and most likely wouldn't get one. I have been wanting to check out this place for a really long time and yesterday I finally had a chance to go. I must say, I was incredibly impressed by this place. It's simple, not overwhelmingly crowded and the prices were reasonable. The selection although small, provided a little something for everyone. Their storage section is just a hint to what you can discover on their online shop which still has the same great prices on it. There have been more than a few occasions where I would visit a new shop and instantly knew I wouldn't be going back based on the way the employees acted in these places. Kinda of like super snobby and stuck up. High Fidelity did not give me that feeling that I wasn't welcomed or that I couldn't ask the employee a question. That means a lot to me simply because I don't want to feel uncomfortable while I'm shopping for music. The whole experience is a therapeutic one for me. Anyway, the employee who was at the shop yesterday around opening, was very nice and he took my questions about my selections seriously. He didn't throw an attitude or roll his eyes. Came over a few hours later and got everything that I wanted and needed and more! The Store had more vinyl than I have seen in many many years! I brought a friend with me that doesn't have any vinyl records and she was unfamiliar with a certain artist and he was more than happy to put it on so she can listen to it. I'm going to give High-Fidelity four stars because I love that it exists, even if I never use it. Everything about the place screams for hipster validation, from the window mannequin dressed for Coachella to the brand new sign that emits a calculated flicker onto Hillhurst. High-Fidelity is a record store, almost all vinyl with a small selection of CDs. It's been a storied Los Feliz establishment for all of six months. It seems to have been opened on a bet - are there enough vinyl enthusiasts in Los Feliz/Silver Lake/Echo Park to keep a dedicated brick and mortar in business? So far, the answer must be yes. I fall more on the yuppie end of the Los Feliz yipster spectrum, but I find High-Fidelity amusing enough that it earn its right on the block. It certainly lends flavor to the neighborhood. I pass by the place a couple times a day, and it fits in on Hillhurst. (Case in point - when I finally went in, Lucifer's Pizza next door was playing Built to Spill's twenty minute live cover of Cortez the Killer.) I decided to take my 22-year-old brother when he visited my new place, and I was happy to throw High-Fidelity a little business while I took a peek around. The interior, which is entirely visible from the outside, was neatly done, with a lot of records on display and a turntable behind the register. There was a little performance space too that wasn't being used at the time. The records were well organized, and there was a decent selection of both new and used vinyl. I was surprised to see that the records leaned more rare/classic than you've-probably-never-heard-of-them. This might have been a product of the medium - not a lot of used vinyl coming out of the underground indie music scene. Even the CD selection, though, was relatively mainstream, with the indie contingent represented by such unknown acts as Modest Mouse. I wonder if High-Fidelity gets a lot of business from the überhipster demographic. For the record, this is not a criticism - the selection is way cooler than I am. My brother ended up buying a Venom album for $25. This was one of the pricier vinyls I saw - I imagine if I were into this kind of thing I'd be thrilled to see all the albums priced under $10. The service was great. I expected High-Fidelity to be run by thirty-somethings in tight pants, but we were helped by a couple of middle-aged men who were probably hipsters before you'd ever heard of hipsters. They were cool and not ridiculous, and they made good small talk and put music they liked on the record player. I may not be High-Fidelity's target audience, but I'll give the place a thumbs up. Obviously, there's demand for a vinyl store in 2012 Los Angeles, and the storefront perks up the neighborhood. The other week, I saw a man on the Westside wearing a High-Fidelity T-shirt and felt a glimmer of Los Feliz pride. There are worse things to represent a zip code than an overabundance of vinyl. read more

Was so excited to have a local record shop less than 15 minutes from me when High Fidelity moved to West Adams. They are very knowledgeable about what they sell, the records are always in great shape, and their prices are very very fair. Now during the COVID-19 it's been a blast browsing their new arrivals online and they're always ready for pickup. It's great to have a place like High Fidelity I can call my "regular" spot and now more important than ever to support them! read more

I love High Fidelity. This shop is run by people from the defunct but sorely missed Aron's Records, and these cats have cred in the Los Angeles record slanging game that most could only dream about. Some of the reviewers speak of an elitist attitude -- I disagree. They know their shit, and they're happy to share information with you, put you up on music you might be unaware of, or open your ears to sounds you might have overlooked. Then again, if you come in looking for the latest shit du jour Skrillex remix, yeah, they might roll their eyes. I put the blame on you, not them. Digressing back to the store - cool lay out (check those savage light fixtures), easy to find and well curated selection of vinyl - both new and used. Went in recently and picked up some great jazz finds, including a rare Rashaan Roland Kirk joint. They sell record players and equipment, and host some pretty ill shows. On top of all that (as if that wasn't enough), they are part of a group (including Vacation Vinyl) that is working hard to bring back mom and pop record shops. When a certain shop opened in LA (rhymes with shma-meba), they may have established a huge, big box version of an indie record shop, but they killed a lot of the great stores that were smaller and specialized. I recently found out about High Fidelity thanks to my girlfriend who doesn't own any record's but being around me long enough probably will. Though it's located so near Amoeba on Sunset Blvd. the particular street it's on is quiet and even industrial looking. Once inside I knew I found another favorite record store. There prices we're good and in the short time I was looking through the jazz albums I found both a Kenny Burrell and a Jimmy Smith which for both paid about 13. I'm really looking forward to going back especially for one of there in store event's. Also much thanks to Ray for helping me with my belt driven vs direct drive confusion. read more

This place is fantastic. I've met, what I think, are the two guys that work there and both were extremely helpful with equipment info and vinyl/music info. I came in with virtually no knowledge about equipment and got a lot of questions answered without being looked down upon for my low turntable and vinyl IQ. I ended up buying a turntable, receiver and a pair of speakers. All competitively priced to other shops in LA and online......and dude let me choose a free record to take home (sweet). I had some RCA plugs recently start to falter and brought it into High Fidelity for repair. Their repair guy called and said he could put some high.end RCA's on and with labor cost it'd be about $70. I told him I was kind of bummed because I'd just bought the turntable a in February from High Fidelity. He remarked that he didn't know I'd purchased it from the shop and said he felt bad because he tests all of the equipment sold through the shop. He ended up charging me $25 and mentioned that he'd rather have me happy and refer people to the shop that squabble over $50.....stand up move. read more

It's amazing to see a new vinyl record store anywhere in the United States, let alone Los Angeles. I'm an analog geek, so it's great to browse the racks on a casual walk down Hillhurst. Earlier today, I found a Legendary Pink Dots double LP I didn't even know existed! Among my concerns, the stock is mostly used. When I buy vinyl, I typically look for limited artwork and 180 gram editions of my favorite albums. There's precious few in the shop. I was also disappointed not to find any experimental electronic music, but I imagine few Yelpers share my passion for the genre. I hope an independent record store can survive in Los Feliz, especially when faced with daunting competition from Amoeba and online retailers. The shop needs some sizzle...possibly live performances or speaking events? In the meantime, I'll continue flipping through the stacks in search of jewels. read more

I brought in my portable record player, receiver, and speakers which I hadn't been able to get to work properly. Ray spent some time trouble shooting and then experimenting with different equipment. I really appreciated the time he spent getting me set up again. I ended up purchasing a new (old) Sony Technic turn table for a VERY reasonable price. I'm so happy that I can play my vinyl collection again and everything sounds better than EVER! I love listening to vinyl. It's a whole-body experience and I've missed it terribly! Now, I'm back in business thanks to Ray and everyone at High Fidelity. AND they have a great selection of Vinyl, so, I'm sure I'll be back soon. This place ROCKS! read more

This record store is on a hipster street in a hipster neighborhood, yet I still like it! Walking in, High Fidelity seemed sparse. That made me worry. Sparse usually means no used vinyl. Only overpriced new releases. But no! There's a great selection of used vinyl. Many LPs for $1! Everything was fairly priced, including new LPs. There's a small section of used CDs and I didn't see any of them listed for over $5. Good variety too. There's a small stage at one end of the store. When I was there, a podcast was recording on the stage along with a free performance by Rhet Miller of The Old 97s. read more

Stoked to find it while walking the doggy except now it's tempting me every time I see it ("Just one record couldn't hurt.."). Nice curated selection of rock, jazz, blues, world, audiophile (think really dope movie soundtracks), etc. Walking home from dinner the other night, the gf and I passed by and there was a party going on inside! Grabbed a free Tecate while I browsed the packed house. Great idea! Picked up a Richie Havens album for $6 (such an amazing, rich voice). **UPDATE*** I've been shopping at High Fidelity Records for a couple months now and always talk with Ray there. When I gave him my business card to talk about their social media, it turned out he works right around the corner from my office. So I finally stopped by today to give him some vinyl from some of the bands I work with and... Sweet Jeebus. It was an entire warehouse of their leftover Classic Records stock (they were bought out last year). Not only that, they buy whole collections, catalog, then resell them to specific buyers who come in and cherry pick, online, or through Hi-Fidelity. Their latest haul was a $16K collection from a former Fontana Records A&R Rep from the UK. Not only that... they also sell high end stereo equipment, cables, tables, amplifiers, etc. Think $1000 cartridges, air tonearms & platter suspension, tubes, Japanese import cable connectors, 300w amplifiers, and all that yazz. Would love to sink into the couch in their listening room for an afternoon nap. I didn't take any pictures because I thought it would be out of place and awkward... But it's a pretty cool place with a lot of music. If you're in the LA area and are looking for some great curated vinyl and hi-fi finds... Check out High Fidelity Records in Los Feliz sometime. You can listen to used LPs in the store so you don't have to worry about buying something that's not exactly right. Great selection of new LPs too. I'd heard about High-Fidelity on Record Store Day, but hadn't had a chance to visit, so one day when a friend and I were looking for something to do, we stopped by. The selection isn't as broad as Amoeba's, but what they do have is great. Between my friend and I, we found three records we'd been hoping to find for several months and thus far only found online at prices too steep for our taste. One of the records I found was half off the lowest price I'd been able to find it online and I was thrilled! The ambiance isn't much to speak of; when we were in there the music was a little too loud and the guy behind the counter was on the phone the first part of our visit. However, when he did get off the phone, he interacted with us and even offered his opinion on a debate we were having over which record we should choose. After our purchase, we chatted for a few minutes about the store and some of the other items they had up for sale. I'm trying to curb my vinyl habit, but I definitely can't wait to go back! read more

I took about 30 records in to sell today (after being told to come back yesterday), and when I walked in Victoria was in back, and seemed less than pleased to see me. I asked her if she was having a nice day and said something to the effect of 'not really." Eek. I got out the albums for her and she started going through them without saying hello. I'm somewhat curious in general (and hadn't looked at some of these myself) so I stood near the counter and watched her for a bit while tinkering with my phone. I was not ominously lurking or anything like that. She kept giving me dirty looks, so when I jokingly asked her if I was bothering her, she said "Yes. You can go sit on the couch." I'm not sure I can remember worse customer service, anywhere. After going through everything she made me a reasonable offer, but I couldn't accept it since she was so mean. That's the word - mean. Strange, right? I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Small store front with great collection. Mainly used vinyls, but pulling a few out of their sleeves they appeared to be in decent shape. I brought home a few and have been loving it. They also sell refurbished turn-tables and speakers as well. Shows on weekends and friendly staff- definitely worth schecking out. read more
