This place has great energy and if you are very articulate, they can also order items for me it was a specific 1994 Bedtime Stories Album with the image right side up. ( many were issued with an upside down front cover image back then ). They fully understood my obsession with this too and thats really cool. Supervinyl is a modern vinyl shop with a welcoming setup. To get here, there is tons of street parking all around the area. Inside, their records are organized nicely by artists and genres. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Their records are priced fairly and they have a good selection to pick through. I did not end up getting anything today, but will definitely be back next time I am in the area to check them out again. read more

I went into Supervinyl to purchase a record player and I was lucky enough to be helped by Denny. Before leaving the store he took the time to show me how to use the record player properly and then had me do it in front of him to make sure I did it correctly. Denny also made sure I had all the proper equipment at home to hook up to my record player and showed me how to hook that up. He could have easy just rang me up and sent me on my way but instead he took the time to set me up for success. So thrilled to have waited, shopped and researched turntables before making a purchase. Having pulled the trigger and purchasing a custom painted Project turntable and speaker set-up at Supervinyl last month, I continue to be ecstatic with it. Sound, quality, ease of use, easy to set up....a great purchase. And it just looks cool! My husband and I drove over from Las Vegas, specifically to visit Supervinyl. I am so glad we did. In Vegas, there is a middle section of the turntable market that is lacking. There are turntables in the $200-$500 price point and then $15K and above, but simply no middle ground that we ever found. Not wanting to simply buy on line before we could see it and hear it, we looked around on line and it seemed like Supervinyl was exactly what we were looking for. Justine was the staff member who assisted us the most on our visit. In addition to being laid back and incredibly knowledgable, she herself is a musician. A singer in fact. Come to find out that most of the staff are in the music business or are musicians themselves. The owner and also his daughter were there on our second, trigger pulling visit the day after our initial visit and what incredibly nice people. The customer care and attentiveness of simply talking record shop and being kind really is noteworthy. Not to mention Justine making note of Fleetwood Mac being the band that sparked my interest and pulling out the Rumors album and sharing with me the sound of the turntable we were interested in. I called this record store yesterday to check on a specific turntable model. The staff put me on a brief hold, checked their stock, and confirmed they had one left. They kindly put it on hold for me. When I arrived later that night, I really appreciated that no one immediately hovered or asked what I was looking for. Instead, they let me browse and soak in the vibe--exactly what I love in a record store. After about 15 minutes of enjoyable browsing, I approached the counter and mentioned my hold. They promptly grabbed it for me. I also showed them the amplifier and speakers I planned to purchase. They were respectful of my research and supportive of my choices, not trying to upsell or sway me. They were accommodating, friendly, and made the whole experience enjoyable. I really love this vinyl shop. I made the trip there while I was visiting LA for my birthday. The owner was super cool and was originally from Miami. I hadn't got a record in a while so I was eager to get a new one. They had a great selection of recross across many different genres. I decided on the Daft Punk album and I've been very happy with it. The owner also gifted me with a hat and shirt for FREE! They even boxed up my vinyl so that it wouldn't get damaged on the flight back home. This was a great experience overall. read more

This record store is one of my favorites in LA, hands down. I live in the neighborhood and can't help but stop by everytime I'm in the neighborhood. Grab a coffee at Sightglass across the street and head over to dig in the crates. Some highlights: -Great customer service. The owner, Barry, is personable and inviting. Having an LA adventure day and stopped in this record store that my coworker told me about. The shop is very neat and organized and, in addition to records, they also sell high quality turn tables as well as their own brand of clothing. The owner was there on our visit and I get the feeling that he is very hands on. Him as well as the employee working the floor were both very pleasant and approachable and customer service oriented. This place is a gem for all vinyl lovers. But wait there is more. This is also a place where you can acquire the finest stereo equipment and turn tables. Where else can you buy Macintosh stereo equipment and speakers.They also have Tecnique 1200s+ the work horse for any DJ and very few US dealers sell them brand new. The vinyl selection is great and they have a selection of very rare Box sets. They sell out of these very quickly. This is definitely a great place to get music but also a place where the serious audiophile buys the finest and I mean The finest stereo equipment! How fine !!! read more

This record store makes sense as the gift shop at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It's definitely curated and a lot of thought went into the design and layout, but the selection is basically top 40 artists from the past 5 decades. The custom-made bin cards that feature current and iconic artists from The Rolling Stones to today's potential one-hit wonders is unlike any other record store I've been to in LA. It's like the vinyl section of an Urban Outfitters or a Best Buy grew and took over an entire retail location. You won't see any rarities here -- lots of safe artists and albums in alphabetical order. No genres or categories. You will definitely find Lizzo and Billie Eilish, and probably Fleetwood Mac and Joy Division...? Nothing too obscure and no used records. Everything is brand new artists or reissues of classics releases. The problem is, these records are very easy to find and for better prices. The sound quality will be great, but you don't really need to search for this stuff -- it's readily available! I guess the owner is one of the founders of Lucky Brand Jeans. They have some articles of clothing for sale -- a simple beanie with the name of the store is $75, a distressed hoodie was $180. They had some other hats, tees and even a leather motorcycle jacket I'm assuming is a million dollars. Why am I paying that much to advertise your small record shop no one has heard of....?!? They have a few vintage records available that I thought were for decorative purposes, but they are actually listed on the website for outrageous markups. This $500 Talking Heads album is readily available on Discogs for under $50 or even sealed for under $100. I think this is supposed to be a music-themed BOUTIQUE that for some reason, isn't on Melrose, and music is the backdrop. They DO carry a nice selection of top-of-the-line turntables from McIntosh and Rega for probably the MSRP. You won't find any basic belt-driven Audio-Technica or shitty Crosley turntables here, which is nice if you're looking to spend $600 - $7k+ on a stylish museum-quality turntable. Wait, maybe it's intended to be a showroom for the turntables...??? Either way, you can also buy a copy of the 50th Anniversary Edition of "Let It Bleed" for about $20 more than Amazon or Target. Beautiful store. Underwhelming selection. read more

Probably the Apple Store of LA record stores. Clean, modern layout of records as seen in the pictures. Small but decent collection of all new records. No real classical selection. Their bread and butter is likely their high-end audiophile turntables that sell for $600 and up (there's a $350 automatic as well). Impressive hardware demos you can get hands-on with. Friendly and attentive staff that will answer any questions as well. Definitely a place to go visit if you want to upgrade your setup to a higher-end option. (They will probably ask you what you have, make something up if you don't want them to judge your setup! Because they will.) read more

I was in need of a new turntable needle and ended up just buying a Rega P3 turntable here in order to get an upgraded needle. The staff were all very down to earth and fantastic to work with. They personally setup my turntable for me and even measured the tonearm force with a gram meter to get it perfect (and I mean perfect) for me. When I got home I unboxed it, plugged it in, and I haven't had to touch it since! In addition to all of this, they took me to the upstairs "VIP" demonstration room to setup the turntable and I got to hear their fancy McIntosh demo system. Being a McIntosh owner myself it was really great to be treated to a listen, and it's equally nice to have a second and dedicated McIntosh dealer in the Los Angeles Area. To complete my trip I picked up a record or two (most of their stock is brand new) and I can't wait to go back! Great spot. read more

Very simple inviting store that knows the lane they're in and I like that about them. I've dropped quite a bit of cash at this store. It's super convenient to my neighborhood and it's where I go when I want that really good reissue or colored vinyl reissue. I don't go here to discover new artists or find that cool rare Stones record. Although I did one time by a cool rare Stones record there. But if you just want a really good quality 180g copy of your favorite Soundgarden album, this is the place. They're great plus Tartine is right across the street!!! read more

If you're looking for something super particular or esoteric you may not find it here, but I spoke with the owner and he's super receptive to ideas and recommendations. Its clean. That's something. Ok, so lets just conclude that this store had WeHo & BH 20-somethings with their parents disposable income in mind when they conceptualized this store. And its likely that this target demographic has no f'n idea what any of this stuff is other than it seems kinda cool - and one of their frenemies might buy it first and that's not cool. This store is strictly for wealthy fad buyers - which makes the middle-of-nowhere location a bit of a wild card. But all of the records and all of the audio gear can be had almost anywhere else for 20-40% less. And the pricing on store branded clothing items is a laughable money grab. The upside of this story is that 2 years from now there's going to be some great deals on barely used high end turntables at yard sales in west LA. But really, what's the point? read more

Its refreshing to stop in a music, and especially Vinyl shop and not encounter a Rob Gordon type. Sure, the records here have mostly hit the top 40 or a pitchfork or billboard list but you know what? Who cares, there's tons of great albums here and you can tell that the selection is curated and chosen with care to represent some of the higher fidelity masters / represses. Personally, I tend to go for first pressings, but that only works for the used / collector market. I see people compare this to UO and Hard Rock Cafe, and sure, the selection is pretty obvious but you have to remember this place is located in an area where people are brunching at Tartine and shopping at Just One Eye. I'm sure many browsing around had their assistants buy them McIntosh Pre's and tables or got them handed down to them by their bosses and are stoked to find that great re-issue of JD's Closer. No matter, There are some great gems here.. yes they are priced at MSRP but there's no swindling and there are some beautiful turntables and pre amps on display. And they are much more accessible to buy than even a used technics 1200. Finally, the owner, who I found out from reading reviews is one of the lucky brand founders, was exceptionally gracious, friendly and excited to show off not just his favorite set up that anyone can afford but also show how vinyl can and should sound like. We should support people that are pushing something they love and are fans of themselves. All you negative star Rob Gordons need to take a break from Discogs and remember why you love vinyl in the first place, disposable income or not. read more

Supervinyl has become of my favorite record shops. Their selection is beautifully diverse and reasonably priced and they seem to carry records I can't find anywhere else, like the David Bowie "Who Can I Be Now" box set. Above all else, the staff here are always friendly and willing to engage and shoot over their personal recommendations. Most important of all, there is not an ounce of pretentiousness which often plagues many boutique record stores. The only downside? Beautiful space on a friendly sidestreet with cool eateries just across - amazing playback system (McIntosh! integrated amp with tubes!) for in-store listening while you shop - they are shooting for audiophile products and do it well. The store has a nice design aesthetic, but I left disappointed. The inventory was very limited and it being record store day they didn't have many, if any, special releases. Tons of albums have been remastered, I didn't see a lot of those either. Hopefully things will get better. read more
