As soon I walked in the owner said hello welcome, what type of music do you like? I replied a little bit of everything, he then replied what's that supposed to mean? He said give me an artist or genre I said ok do you have jazz or blues, he then replied saying he had over 2k records in just jazz alone.. I settled on asking if he had any Al Bowlly, he said yes I have Al Bowlly.. He walked down one of the aisles and called down the hallway to someone.. All of the sudden a frail old man came out, the owner said can you get down the Al Bowlly records, the old man sighs ok, the owner in return gave him a ladder, which the old man un folded and struggled to push it down the aisle, he climbed up to almost the top of the ladder looking through the albums un able to find any records, after struggling the owner comes over and said here let me help you!! The old man climbs back down the ladder and the owner pulls the ladder further down the aisle and says here this is where they are, the old man climbs back up to the top and finally finds the records and struggles to start pulling the records off the top shelf handing them to the owner.. I would say he took down maybe 20 or so records I found one I was looking for paid 25 bucks for it and was on my way.. The record by the way is in amazing condition almost new.. If you are looking for a specific record I definitely suggest coming here.. The owner is very knowledgeable.. I can see where he would come off rude, he wants people who know what they are looking for..

The proprietor--swift, encyclopedic, and unmistakably unimpressed--retrieved selections with impressive precision, only to bristle at the modern instinct to verify via Spotify. Browsing, it seems, is no longer browsing unless it ends in immediate, unquestioned purchase--hesitation being the ultimate offense. "Move. Come back when you're ready," is delivered less as guidance and more as doctrine. And yet, there is something perversely compelling about it. A former saxophonist by his own account, he carries the air of someone who has distilled years of proximity to greatness into a rigid philosophy: taste must be instinctual, decisive, and efficient. The warmth is absent, but the character is undeniable. In an age of frictionless politeness, The Record Collector offers resistance--less a store than a fully realized persona. Not recommendable in the conventional sense, but as a study in human texture, undeniably... collectible.

And while we didn't find the particular albums that we were looking for, we were blown away by the sheer ambiance and amount of product they do possess. Being a child of the 70's and '80s, we could have looked through their collection for four or five hours easy since I think those were the greatest decades of music with artist who not only achieved legendary status, but even one hit wonders that what have you going back into time. In fact, we were joking with the staff that we easily could have opened and closed the place down by doing an entire day shift right alongside them! The place really blows you away from a 5 senses standpoint as well. The sights, sounds, and smells all hit you at once-and in here and on this occasion, that was a great thing. If you follow a little hallway it leads you into a completely different section into what seems like a another small universe or at least galaxy. Once on the other side of this hallway which leads you to another portion of the building entirely, your met with even more records and additional musical and odd treasures. To top it off, a bar with alcohol awaits you! Lol You can't make this place up! Bottom line here folks is this is a really cool, cool place-especially for those who love classic music, a good beer, and the idea of hunting for what you want. I'd highly recommend this place....just be prepared to put in some serious time for research and for your senses to be able to take it all in.

I walk in and it's such a cool vibe! This is a bookstore that carries all the Hollywood legends memoirs. I saw loads of books on people I admire that I have to come back and get when I finish the ones that ones that I just bought. The attendees were so nice and accommodating. The place felt very inviting and well lit. Although it's a small boutique type, it's still was very full with amazing content and a large variety. The prices are about the same as any other book store as well. I will definitely be back!

UPDATE OF MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: After what started out to be a positive experience, I'm left with a…read morevery negative feeling about this place. IN A LARGE NUTSHELL: I originally called to see if ATRT carried a specific pressing of an artist/album and they did. I purchased that album plus four others. Played all of the albums BUT the specific album I needed - which was the most expensive - was literally unplayable. Contacted owner Kevin and he started making up store policies: claimed the invoice states it allows for only a 50% refund (it doesn't); then stated while he wouldn't refund me, he would try to locate another copy of the album which would probably have a later pressing/label & that I needed to be okay with that since it contained all of the same songs as the original pressing. (I wanted the original release, I paid for the original release, I expected the original release - not a later reissue on a different label - this shouldn't be difficult for any collector to comprehend.) Kevin attempted to bully me by repeatedly cutting me off with his confrontational, condescending, argumentative and arrogant tone which, honestly, was shocking, to say the least. Eventually he admitted he doesn't listen to the albums while simultaneously claiming them to be in great condition - after much back and forth, he finally agreed to reimburse me for the defective album. (It's as though he's great to talk to if you agree with everything he says but if he feels challenged, he takes it as a threat?????) I understand not being able to listen to thousands of albums to check their usability but if they don't work & he doesn't want to provide an in-store opportunity for customers to test them, do the honest thing. Also, post your lack-of-return-policy-of-the-moment so customers know in advance what they're settling for - NOTE: they have you sign the receipt after paying AND keep talking to you while signing so you simply think you're signing for receipt of merchandise - if there's a no-return clause or a partial refund clause, you won't know that. As I stated to Kevin over the phone, I'm not mad or angry about the hostile way he treated me, I'm actually sad - what could have been a pretty darn good experience with a local small business turned out to be a pretty awful one. MY MISTAKE - I should have read other reviews BEFORE visiting because there are wildly differing opinions on this place and all seem legit - the good and the bad. My first review was great and as you can see, that soured pretty frickin' quickly. It doesn't take much to be decent and honest - especially if you'd like to keep customers who are happy to share their experiences with others.
