Sandy kept pulling more and more rare records out the further into our list he got, and Henry kept offering random selections of odd ball albums in similar veins. Classical is really where Sandy gets interested. Henry, the older of the two gentlemen, got up on the ladder multiple times to show us something we might like. If you read these other reviews, it obvious how to approach the shop; just know what you want and be polite! I went years ago randomly, it's true they were pretty brutal, but on this second approach I ended up with an experience far beyond getting some rare records. Sandy went into detail about his studies in violin, his 87 year old teacher, the jazz club he ran. Stories of booking Herb Ellis and days of Les McCann coming into the shop etc. Once we got into it Sandy even showed me some hi fi equipment of his, and talking of the master tapes he still has from shows he recorded himself with legendary names. He bought Cannonball Adderley's record collection directly from his wife when he passed, because she trusted only Sandy to treat it with care. The shop has amazing records, first editions and everything a jazz or classical fan can imagine; but through their strict rules and bitter demeanor these two men are some of the last great witnesses to the true greats. Absolute treasures waiting to be unlocked. Give this place another shot, with some care, and I promise you will get more out of it than any shop in Los Angeles.

What a gem!! Opened for 50+ years…read more. Walked past this place on Sunday and had to stop in from seeing through the windows the floor to ceiling filled shelf's full of records.. As soon I walked in the owner said hello welcome, what type of music do you like? I replied a little bit of everything, he then replied what's that supposed to mean? He said give me an artist or genre I said ok do you have jazz or blues, he then replied saying he had over 2k records in just jazz alone.. I settled on asking if he had any Al Bowlly, he said yes I have Al Bowlly.. He walked down one of the aisles and called down the hallway to someone.. All of the sudden a frail old man came out, the owner said can you get down the Al Bowlly records, the old man sighs ok, the owner in return gave him a ladder, which the old man un folded and struggled to push it down the aisle, he climbed up to almost the top of the ladder looking through the albums un able to find any records, after struggling the owner comes over and said here let me help you!! The old man climbs back down the ladder and the owner pulls the ladder further down the aisle and says here this is where they are, the old man climbs back up to the top and finally finds the records and struggles to start pulling the records off the top shelf handing them to the owner.. I would say he took down maybe 20 or so records I found one I was looking for paid 25 bucks for it and was on my way.. The record by the way is in amazing condition almost new.. If you are looking for a specific record I definitely suggest coming here.. The owner is very knowledgeable.. I can see where he would come off rude, he wants people who know what they are looking for..

And while we didn't find the particular albums that we were looking for, we were blown away by the sheer ambiance and amount of product they do possess. Being a child of the 70's and '80s, we could have looked through their collection for four or five hours easy since I think those were the greatest decades of music with artist who not only achieved legendary status, but even one hit wonders that what have you going back into time. In fact, we were joking with the staff that we easily could have opened and closed the place down by doing an entire day shift right alongside them! The place really blows you away from a 5 senses standpoint as well. The sights, sounds, and smells all hit you at once-and in here and on this occasion, that was a great thing. If you follow a little hallway it leads you into a completely different section into what seems like a another small universe or at least galaxy. Once on the other side of this hallway which leads you to another portion of the building entirely, your met with even more records and additional musical and odd treasures. To top it off, a bar with alcohol awaits you! Lol You can't make this place up! Bottom line here folks is this is a really cool, cool place-especially for those who love classic music, a good beer, and the idea of hunting for what you want. I'd highly recommend this place....just be prepared to put in some serious time for research and for your senses to be able to take it all in.

I love popping into these signings! They are not very expensive and it's a cool way to interact with celebrities that have recently put out a book. Even if you can't make a signing, they often have signed copies following an event for sale on the first floor of the shop near the displays in front. The toy section of this location will make your jaw drop. I was shocked they had such a huge selections of various types of toys but rest assured if you need a non-book gift for a child, you can find one here. Staff has always been friendly! The store is always incredibly organized and clean. They have everything you could possibly want in a mega-bookstore here. Did I mention they even have a cafe that serves Kraft Macaroni & Cheese? Please stop having her take our photo ops IF she's just going to hover, interrupt, and be rude to paying customers. I miss Rachael (the previous Events Manager) and even her predecessor! They were never rude to me and were always understanding and considerate. Thanks for tainting my memory from the event today and ruining my whole experience! You look like you would be a nice person, but you're absolutely not. Please don't taint the B&N brand and just try to be a kinder and empathetic person! B&N, please stop hiring (or training) mean girls! Also, the brunette book seller is also nasty. I had a terrible experience with her at another event. Those two ladies deserve each other. I should be calling out their rudeness in front of the talent, but I don't wanna embarrass them. Shame on them!

I reached out to Brian, and he immediately went above and beyond--contacting McIntosh on my behalf, walking me through the options, and ultimately helping me get back up and running. What stood out most wasn't just the solution, but the care and integrity Brian showed throughout the process. He didn't treat me like just another transaction, he treated me like a valued customer. That kind of support is rare, and it's exactly why I'll keep coming back to Ahead Stereo. If you're into high-end audio and want a dealer who stands by their customers, this is the place. Today during my visit to ahead stereo I was looking for an education in creating a future home stereo system, I'm not up to date on all the options, but have a general idea of what I'm trying to achieve. These folks seemed interested in selling me a consultation for a couple hundred dollars rather than trust helping me and winning my trust, it seemed they were concerned if the helped me understand what would be a good solution I would leave the store and buy online. That was not the plan and once I figure out what I'm looking for I'll probably be back to buy local, as I'm a big supporter of that concept. My suggestion in the future is customer comes first, build the trust and loyalty will follow.
