How is this Barnes & Noble real!? It's not a regular ol' Barnes, not at all. They have nearly daily book signings with authors and various celebrities, ranging from martial artist superstar Jet Li to Bravo-librities Dorit from Real Housewives of 90210 and Reza from Shahs/PersianValley to confusing Hills Villian Mayoral Candidate Spencer Pratt to life guru Mel Robbins to local Koreatown classic Dumbfoundead to Kid Cudi, Tiffany Haddish, Christina Ricci, Kevin Costner, Jennifer Aniston, Paris Hilton, Danny Trejo ~ I could go on and on... I love popping into these signings! They are not very expensive and it's a cool way to interact with celebrities that have recently put out a book. Even if you can't make a signing, they often have signed copies following an event for sale on the first floor of the shop near the displays in front. The toy section of this location will make your jaw drop. I was shocked they had such a huge selections of various types of toys but rest assured if you need a non-book gift for a child, you can find one here. Staff has always been friendly! The store is always incredibly organized and clean. They have everything you could possibly want in a mega-bookstore here. Did I mention they even have a cafe that serves Kraft Macaroni & Cheese? This blond female book seller (or events manager) at B&N at The Grove is the worst! She needs to learn to have some patience! Learn to be flexible. Let us have our moment, especially when it's an event with low attendance. Maybe save the rudeness (or unnecessarily strictness) for bigger events? That extra 5 seconds would've made my experience really special and positive. Unfortunately, she's a Karen. Please stop having her take our photo ops IF she's just going to hover, interrupt, and be rude to paying customers. I miss Rachael (the previous Events Manager) and even her predecessor! They were never rude to me and were always understanding and considerate. Thanks for tainting my memory from the event today and ruining my whole experience! You look like you would be a nice person, but you're absolutely not. Please don't taint the B&N brand and just try to be a kinder and empathetic person! I've been coming to this Barnes and Noble for 16 years and while it's still nice to come through, I much prefer the more cared for, more luxurious pre pandemic layout of the store. I miss being able to read a book and sit with my coffee on the now defunct third floor patio but I'm glad the grove has a Barnes and noble at all still and staff are polite but not overly friendly. I think staff do the best with the tools at their disposal but this store has sort of lost its warmth and identity over the years. The upstairs cafe could be a little nicer and again I really wish they would open the patio back up. And having a checkout station on the third floor would be incredibly convenient. But these are smaller more niche annoyances that I have due to past experience when I feel the layout was more interesting and better cared for. My only real complaint is that most of the time when I purchase a book the cover is worn or damaged and I have to ask my cashier for a discount. That's annoying when you're supposed to be purchasing a brand new book from a reputable commercial bookstore. Because of damaged products I sometimes wonder if I should just go to a used bookstore instead if all of my purchases are doing to be slightly bent or creased. read more

I only give 1-stars when an establishment is aggressively awful. This place earned it! I head up to the cafe on the 3rd floor. I grab an Economist and walk to the counter to order my coffee. The skinny dude at the register calls out snappily: "I can't ring up magazines here. You have to go to the bottom floor register." Me (confused): "oh, I'm just ordering coffee. Do they not like customers reading a magazine before paying for it?" Kid: "I don't care what you read." (It gets worse) Me: "ok, I'lll just get a coffee." Kid: "I am restarting my register. It will be 10-15 minutes." Mind you, it's 11am on a Saturday! Only one register working? And why so much open hostility?? It was so strange. So then I walk downstairs to pay for my magazine. It's a 10 minute line because they only have ONE REGISTER open!!! No wonder Barnes and Nobles is close to shuttering entirely. They might as well, the once great chain is no more. I come here all the time. Whether I'm looking for a gift for my wife or daughter or if I just want to spoil myself. Love that there is a Barnes & Nobel (not) Starbucks but it is a Starbucks? Have to grab a coffee before checking out the Horror books and the Music section. I love the Vinyl records and all the cd options. On this last visit I was approached by 3 employees all of which offered to help me find anything. I did pick up a book for myself to learn music theory and guitar scales. Who doesn't love a bookstore! I've always been a big fan of Barnes and Nobles. Their book selection is great, love that's they have wrapping stuff, kids toys, and extra nicknacks you can pickup in one place. This one is 3 stories and lots of places to sit and chill and get your reading on. This time around we were there for a Mel Robbins book signing and it was the absolute best. Very well coordinated not overly packed and went smoothly thanks to staff and her team. It was very clean, tidy and a great selection of books and I appreciated that! I always like to visit their kids books they have great selections, always have a good selection with the holidays coming up Valentines Day, and they have tons of fun books that we can pick up. I was looking for a magazine that was sold out all over LA. I called B&N and got Chris. He was so nice and helpful. I told him what I was looking for, he was familiar and said he saw the last one on the shelf 15 min prior to me calling. I asked if he could hold it for me. He did! And I got the magazine I had driven all over LA looking for. The staff at the register were super nice too. I was the guardian of three children, and they went to look for some slime and one of them was asking how much the slime was and the worker there basically told her the price and then she said oh can I keep that one because the other one was a completely different type of slime and they wanted that one and so she asked and the worker completely cut her off and said no you're gonna keep this one because the sticker is off of this one and then they thought it was weird so then she went back to her friends and they were about to check out with one more of the slimes, and they were stopped by the employee and told that that she was gonna follow them until they were gonna pay and one of the girls was recording herself singing for a school project, and the employee thought that they were recording her but in reality she was trying to record herself for a school project so then she said I'm gonna have to ask you guys to leave the store because they're recording me and they clearly showed her. They even showed her the video of her singing and she did not care one bit, and then she proceeded to kick them out and tell the manager. I think this is very irresponsible on the employee that kicked the girls out because they were minors and I was still inside the store not knowing where they were so they were just waiting outside in the cold and I think this is also very irresponsible because it is not OK to kick minor out of store without telling their parents. read more

I wouldn't say that I'm a regular at this B&N location, however, I specifically come here for book signings with authors. I only go for the ones I'm interested in. The most recent one I came here for was for The Girls Gone Bible. It was one of the signings that was coordinated well! Thanks Madison for that! The previous coordinator was Rachel whom I heard no longer works there. She was good about sending emails regarding events that were coming up! Madison on the other hand, is really friendly. Aside from that, it's a pleasure to be attending these events. Thanks to all the planners who make these events happen. I never thought that I'd have an opportunity to take pictures with some really famous people. The variety of books in this place is nice too. There are three levels to find out what you are looking for. The value of these books aren't bad either. As for the book signings, and lot of them are really affordable. Most of them come with a signed book and picture with the author. So overall, it's great! read more

This is, for me, the last Barnes and Nobles location in LA or at the very least the last one I actually visit because it's located in the Grove. I'll be honest, I am a library card enthusiast and I rarely ever buy books as I read so often that buying all the books I read would price me out of reading completely. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon to pick up some holiday gifts for a friend, it was decently busy. They do offer parking validation for the main Grove (not farmers market!) parking with purchase. This is a large three story store not only selling books from nonfiction to comic trades and hardcovers but also magazines, some stationary, music, and some fun trinkets. read more

I'm currently waiting in line outside for a cd/vinyl signing that was scheduled 5-6:30. This signing was clearly oversold and there isn't much remorse for it. Everyone is showing up at 5 just to be told to check in with your letter and your scheduled wait time. Your wait time is just to line up and not even go in. Stop hosting events and book signings like this if you're going to make people wait outside and outside of the events projected time window. My time to "line up" was 6:50 and I arrived at 5.... How does this make sense?! Nobody has 3-4 extra hours just laying around to get into an event like this. I'm letter M of Q so you can imagine how many others are waiting behind me... We shopped around the Grove and wanted to stop by Barnes and Noble. It's a 3 story stores with different book categories and sessions I like the layout and the random chairs and benches for customers to relax. The top floor also had a cafe to get caffeinated. You know, I hesitated in writing this, but the more I thought about this incident, the more it bothered me. We went to the Pat Benatar book signing yesterday 9-6-25. We were one of the first people in line. The event took ADA first and we watched as they went up. There was a family, with what looked to be two kids in wheelchairs. They were doing a photo with Pat Benatar and had LP's out to pose. Maybe they were hoping to get them signed, I don't know. What happened next kind of shocked me. The woman who was at the end of the line, came up and literally, physically grabbed the LP out of the woman's hand. Literally, she yanked it or tried to yank it from her hand. It was really awful to watch, this is a family in wheelchairs! This employee did something that could be considered assault by grabbing the item, that was not hers, from another person. I regret not saying something to a manager in the moment, I was waiting for my photo and book to be signed It only all hit me after the fact. No matter what, no person is allowed to grab another's physical property from their hands in such a violent fashion. read more

I wish Barnes and Noble had more locations like this. The newer locations are lacking ample seating, cafe, etc. but not this one! I love coming here to work and love to browse around for new reads. It's very inviting here. The only thing is validation at this particular location in general is not my fave. Everyone can spend more than 2 hours here and that's all that validation covers. Let me start off by saying I love Barnes and Noble and I'm thrilled they've made a comeback in the past few years. Barnes and Noble at The Grove has been my go to location since moving to LA in 2011 and I loved it. Then in the past year or so they decided to remodel. I thought..great..a fresh look. But the new look and organization is chaotic to say the least. The checkout on the main level is at the back of the store which means to leave you have to go through what looks like a pinball machine of tables and shelves not to mention people just to get out of the store with your purchase. And the way they laid out their store is like someone made stacks of layouts, tossed them in the air and went with what ever fell to the ground. There's no rhyme or reason. Mystery on one floor, Sci Fi and Horror on another and on different ends of the store. At first I thought it was temporary due to the continued remodeling but nope...this is it. It's so difficult to find anything you're looking for without asking for help and when you ask for help even the staff have no idea. I go up to 3 where Mystery used to be. Can't find it so I go down to 2. Spot a team member. "Excuse me...where is Mystery?" "3rd floor." I must have missed it so I go back up and go around the 3rd floor twice. Nothing. So I ask another team member..."Excuse me...where is Mystery?" "It's on 2...down 1 level." Whoever designed the remodel turned what was once a relaxing place into an aggravating experience. read more

I haven't stepped into a bookstore in ages. I wondered if people still take the time to sit down and read physical books nowadays. However, to my surprise, the store was bustling with activity. There are plenty of books, a wide selection of records, a gift section, and a Starbucks on the top floor. Good to see the book business is still thriving, and it was fun visiting a bookstore versus what I typically do, which is shop on Amazon. Love this Barnes & Noble due to how massive it is! 3 floors of books, I mean it's amazing!! Came on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded, I was able to find a spot to sit and read. The bathrooms are a bit messy, and needed toilet paper. Someone went to ask a staff member, and they came and refilled it but didn't check on any of the stalls. Found all the books I wanted, since their options are great! The only thing that sucks about coming to this bookstore is the parking. They do have a big parking structure, since it's a shopping center. read more

Barnes & Noble used to be my favorite bookstore to hang out when I was young. Until Amazon took over book industry and most of neighborhood Barnes & Nobles stores had to close down over the years. So glad this one is huge at The Grove outdoor mall. Three stores with thousands of books and collectibles. I really like the Harry Potter section. I didn't want to carry too many things while shopping around. So I will just get Harry Potter stuffs online later. The DVD section looked just like blockbuster video store back in the days. Review strictly for a book signing event: 5 stars for Bretman Rock cos duhhh! 3 stars because I feel this event could have been better organized. I was reading past reviews and it seems like organization is something that has been lacking for quite some time now. From all the events held here, you'd think they'd have a good system by them. Well, it's 2023 and I'm not sure if much changed. First, the email does not (but should) state a specific location of where ticket holders can check in. Second, I think at each event, there should be a sign stating the specifics (I.e. time of when to line up (yes, even though it already states on the email), location of where to check in, a starting line, etc. Whatever to organize and control the incoming crowd). Guests for this particular event crowded between book shelves and the unofficial line was wrapping around until the escalators. I feel that even though there is a stated time, there should be a starting point of where guests should line up and a designated person(s) to remind early birds of the right time to finally line up. I noticed countless people asking the same question or "where do we line up?" "Where do we check in?" And it looked like the staff were getting annoyed lol I don't blame them though, esp with celebs being at a space like what this Barnes & Noble has. During the picture opportunity, there wasn't a staff right away to start taking pics for the guest(s), and when there finally was, this staff didn't seem to have fun with taking the pics/ vids to help create memories for the guest. The staff was literally standing there and I even noticed she wasn't taking any pics when she should have been just clicking away, to be honest. Time is of the essence so directing the photo person can't be an option. Anywho, I'm still glad I was able to attend this event. This Barnes & Noble hosts a lot of booking signings/ meet & greets with awesome celebs and authors! I still recommend you all to check them out on Eventbrite! read more

Bookstores will always hold a place in my heart. I'm the person that will have a bookshelf full of books. I've thought about getting a kindle but it just seems to take away from the experience of flipping through a brand new book. I love going to the grove and stopping by Barnes and noble to grab a new book. Their staff is very helpful. If you need help finding anything they will look up the location of the book and they will help you locate the book. If they can't find it they will let you know they can order the book for you. The location is clean and the layout of the store is perfect. They also have a Starbucks in this location. This is definitely my go to location whenever I visit the grove. read more

A three-story Barnes & Noble that is located in The Grove. I recently got back into leisure reading on my free time, and love their #BookTok displays. Even though two young ladies probably in their 20's next to me were complaining about it haha. The staff seemed friendly and approachable. I went to their Customer Service on the 3rd floor and asked if they had any more copies of the 3rd book of a series that was not displayed on their shelf (books 1& 2 of that series were). The staff member helped me look it up, and to my delight, said they did have some in stock, and went to the back and got a copy for me. I greatly appreciated that, because they could have easily told me no. The checkout line on the 1st floor is fast, even on the weekend when it can get busy and there seems to be a long line. Added plus - if you have a membership, you get validated parking. I honestly don't know how long, though, because I am usually only at The Grove for Barnes & Noble, and the longest I've been ever here was 1.5 hours. Definitely recommend checking it out! read more
