DO NOT COME HERE. TLDR, owner writes his own prices onto…read morethe magazines and tries to white out the printed price. Shady!!! My friend and I came here last night to get magazines for a vision board and while grabbing the magazines, I noticed all the prices were missing. At first, I didn't pay too much attention until I came across one that had a price written over ($8.99) what was white out. Confused, I scratched it off and noticed the printed price of $7.99. I went to the other magazines I grabbed and noticed the other ones had white out over the prices too. I went up to the guy working and confronted him about the pricing. He could not even look me in the eye or provide a good excuse as to why he would be upcharging magazines. He said he can give me a discount on all the magazines. For the originally priced magazine, the register marked it as $9 something before taxes, he offered some slight discount. I said no. This isn't right. No one upcharges MAGAZINES. I had maybe 5-6 magazines in my hand. Easily $60 worth of business he just lost. Don't come here. Go to the nice lady who owns the newsstand at the farmers market at the Grove. She was so sweet and kind.

Wrapping my books in political propaganda? Deeply disrespectful…read more I was genuinely shocked and disturbed when I opened my package. I had ordered three books by author Yoo Si-min, known for his thoughtful and progressive commentary--only to find them wrapped in the cover page of a far-right political magazine, Weekly Chosun, bearing the headline: "A Country That Can't Call a Spy a Spy." This wasn't just random packaging. It felt like a deliberate political jab--a form of ideological mockery or provocation. I didn't order propaganda. I ordered literature, and I expected it to arrive with at least a basic level of neutrality and respect for the buyer. Using a highly charged, partisan publication as packing material--especially one with such inflammatory language--is offensive and unacceptable. Whether intentional or not, this kind of packaging sends a clear message of disrespect toward customers who may not share the sender's political views. I strongly urge the seller to reconsider their packaging practices and avoid pushing any political materials--explicitly or implicitly--onto their buyers. This experience was upsetting and entirely inappropriate.

I was raised on "The September Issue," back when it was so heavy you had to hold it with both arms, like a pre-med text book; I believe GQ has the best writers; I have a certain affinity for AD, since my old man built all of our houses up in PDX. And I have always gotten my elitist history from Vanity Fair...where else can you read about The Agnelli Family's scandals! Condé Nast isn't what it once was, sadly, but I still love to pursue the fun covers. As a former journalist, something about print, pour moi, will never be dead. I recently needed a copy of Japan Vogue for the kid's Saturn Return celebration, but none of the out-of-stock Kinokuniya bookshops had it (nor would they reply to my email inquiries *annoyed emoji*); however, the fabulous Paul had it brought over from his magical warehouse in a couple of hours. Housed inside a former bank, the space already carries this grand, historic energy that sets the tone before you even start browsing. What makes this place unforgettable is how it's designed to be explored, not rushed. There are cozy spots scattered throughout where you can sit and get lost in a book, but the real magic is upstairs. It opens into a maze of rooms, each with its own personality, filled with carefully arranged books that feel more like art than inventory. At times, it genuinely feels like you've wandered into a dream. One of the highlights is the famous tunnel of books, which adds to that surreal, almost cinematic experience. Everywhere you turn, books are used as decor in the most creative ways, and it creates this quiet moment where everything else fades out. Upstairs also holds one of my favorite parts, a row of art studios featuring work from local artists. Every piece feels intentional, unique, and thoughtfully placed. Right nearby, there's a small coffee shop surrounded by beautiful artwork, making it an easy place to pause and take it all in. This isn't a quick stop kind of place. Plan to spend a few hours here, wandering, discovering, and just enjoying the atmosphere. It's one of the most iconic bookstores I've ever been to, and it absolutely lives up to the reputation.
