JDC is in old town San Pedro and is the nicest record store. They have everything you could want and the service is great. Parking is free and easy on the street. The service is just amazing. I was with my grandson and he wanted to buy some vinyl for his mommy was not sure what she would like. The woman who took care of us was so nice to him and they looked and looked and he noticed some covers with photos and recognized the artists--he is speech delayed--and pointed to those and the two of them made two great choices. His mommy was so pleased. They also have CDs, cassettes, Tee shirts and other items. The store is not huge, but big enough to find what you want and the prices are very reasonable. JDC has a fantastic vibe, very chill and you can feel the history in the place. They have a wide variety of music to choose from, including some local San Pedro bands which is very cool! The staff are nice and knowledgeable and are willing to listen to and answer all my questions as a newbie to the vinyl collection hobby. Special shout-out to Lina for helping me find this awesome Revocation album (see pics)! I was able to nab the last one in stock, so stoked!! "Egypt is the place to be." -The Egyptian Lover JDC represents and houses a critical piece of dance music history. The label turned out countless italo, disco, Hi NRG, and electro jams. I have 3 or so old JDC records myself. The label could probably still turn out heater after heater, if it wanted, and they would probably hit. From the moment I walked in I loved what I saw. Rows of sleek vinyls asleep in their plastic sleeves. I believe I saw some 12 inch singles from that musician the Egyptian Lover. That clever 808 and turntable guru who likes to mix tracks like Scorpio and Tour de France. He dropped the 80s electro hit "Egypt, Egypt" too. Egyptian Lover even puts on a free show here from time to time, which only enhances the sonic magic, the aural majesty of JDC. One look at the storefront of JDC is still music to my ears. The staff member present in store was Zoe. She fielded all of my random questions about the store to the best of her ability and knowledge. She put on quite a few good records while I was in store too that made the whole browsing experience better. Towards the end of my time in store, Zoe said The Egyptian Lover might be holding another concert at JDC on Dec. 20th. I found that tidbit of info. most helpful. I dug through the whole store more or less. The cheap house music section was cool. I ended up leaving with a copy of Car Wash--yeah! read more

I had a job at the Grand Warner Theatre. I walk outside the artist's entrance and see the picture posted. I had 20 minutes for break, set my alarm for 10 minutes, and in no time went nuts with the selection. So happy to find this place. I'm not in this neighborhood often, but I will visit this place EVERY TIME I do. read more

Went here, was closed despite signage saying that it should be open. Dude, I get that owning a record store is punk rock and all but that doesn't mean you can't be an adult and have respect for your customers time. I understand things happen but reading some comments it seems to be a regular thing that hours are inconsistent. read more

Very cool vinyl, CD, and cassette store located in San Pedro! I came across this store after eating breakfast and not wanting to waste the remaining time on my parking meter. Unfortunately, by no fault of the store, but I shopped beyond the time on my parking meter. Just outside the doors was a CD bin with tons of inventory varying in price. Sadly, I remember purchasing some of the CDs back in the day for over $15 a pop. Today I saw them for $2.99. The store has a mascot, a little dog that mans the front door. All he wants is a little pet and scratch, then he allows you entry. Not really, but he does enjoy a bit of attention. The store is well laid out and there's something for everybody's ears to enjoy. This is a great record shop right across from the Warner Theatre in the heart of the Arts District in San Pedro. As we all know, vinyl records have had a new resurgence in recent years. With this, however, there have been few really good neighborhood record shops that have opened. JDC Is the exception. This is a great place to find both new and previously on vinyl. Plus, they have a large selection of CDs, as well. The atmosphere of this record shop is open and inviting. They have a good display of records in their window, so you can get an idea of the rarity of some of the albums that they offer. Once inside, the staff is friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. So, your shopping experience will be quite enjoyable. In terms of price, they are very competitive. In fact, they have some albums for amazingly low prices. This is something that you just will not find at a large record shop like say Amoeba in Hollywood. Overall, a great place to shop and pick up some new and unique sounds for your vinyl collection. read more

So JDC has apparently been around forever, in different incarnations. This one is in downtown Pedro. From what I hear, the owner Jim who is/was a member of the psychedelic band The Glass Family owns this place. The story goes that he delved in record distribution for a number of years and this place is the front end of that business, probably to help get rid of stock. You can kind of tell, there are lots of records that are original pressings and unopened. These mostly look to be stuff from the 80's, Restless Records stuff, nameless, faceless metal bands. Otherwise, this place has a pretty small selection of rock, dance/hip-hop and punk/metal. I plan on keeping this place on my radar for sure. One, I care about Pedro and supporting businesses in the downtown core is essential. I pray that the area can become a destination (again.) Two, the vibe is friendly and casual. If these guys can keep the used vinyl coming in the place should get better and better. Right now it feels like they are moving old stock, but that's ok. When I was there, they had just finished an in-store appearance by The Egyptian Lover. Yes, THAT Egyptian Lover! I ended up picking up a totally banging EL mix disc. read more

The last two times I've been in the LB/San Pedro area, I have stopped by JDC Records. I have a vast Rap/Hip-Hop collection on vinyl but also collect all other genres. I found some great vinyl today to add to my collection. The hip hop section is small, but mostly all of them are gems. Lots of Egyptian Lover vinyl. Also a great selection of rock and other genres on vinyl, cd, and cassettes. I think it was the owner who helped me at the register. He even seemed excited on what I found. You can tell he has a passion for music. I might have to go there again before I head back to the Bay Area/Delta. Thanks JDC! read more

A great place to go. Jim the owner has been very kind to me & to my friends as well - I can say the same about Eddie another great person who works there - the whole staff is great! There are lots of records to be found here, I have seen some rareities in the bins before. There are some CDs, 45s, cassettes, shirts & other things that are in the store as well! There are lots of 12 inches you can find as well - for the people who are heavy into 12 inchers. The store is located on a street where there are many shops of all kinds including antique, food, & more. You can park along the street & I haven't had any trouble with that - theres always a close spot to be found. So i can't say i have a recomendation if you can't find a close spot to the records. I'd say just go up & down the street & check for a spot. It's a pretty long street in my opinion. It is a nice feel & ambiance, very cool decoration & display with the retro-feel windows & the area itself having a retro yet modern mixed feel. What are you waiting for though ? I have gone in this store a handful of times. It's not terrible, but I usually walk out empty handed which is rare for me when going to a record store. The selection is decent for the size, but not great. I find that the price of records are inconstant. Some are on the high side of price, but there are some good/decent prices as well. Also when the store first opened the selection seemed to be better. Staff always seems friendly when I go in there, but as far as the merchandise to me it misses the mark of a small shop with a variety of new/used and rarities. Maybe I have bad luck when visiting. I'll keep on trying because the staff is nice and sometimes I can find something. read more
