What a great vintage record store tucked away in a strip mall between Torrance Tavern and Cost Plus World Market. There's a huge and decent selection of $5 and under vinyl in bins as soon as you walk in. I found several used albums to add to my collection and they were all in great condition. My 13 year old son also enjoyed perusing the records and kept bugging me to get him the Labyrinth soundtrack, Beastie Boys' "Licensed to Ill" and a Queen compilation but those were all more expensive and I'd just rather we select from the $5 and under bin. The owner was lively and helpful and there's definitely a lot to look at in there from records and CD's to posters, stickers and a collection of colored pens. I stumbled across the store while walking through this shopping complex and I'm glad I did because this store is really cool. They got all kinds of vintage records. CDs memorabilia posters, patches stickers shirts really cool stuff from the looks of it they had all kinds of different genres of music and vinyl in really good condition. Excellent selection, well organized, and plenty of records to go through. I would definitely suggest bringing a list if you have one. Otherwise it can be a little overwhelming. Really liked the 5$ and less selection of records when you walk in. Also not just records but cassettes, shirts, stickers, etc. Mostly music related but even some classic movie items. A bit larger than the previous location and located on Hawthorne Blvd., inside a shopping center. Plenty of parking. Hope to return next time I'm in the area. p.s. If you love vinyl, Dudley's Records is the kind of place that makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by that warm, inviting scent of vintage records and the soft hum of a turntable spinning in the background. The space is thoughtfully organized with a DIY spirit, wall to wall bins full of everything from classic rock and soul to jazz, hip-hop, and rare imports you won't find anywhere else in the South Bay. They even have some leftover RSD stock... Prices are fair but not cheap, and you get what you pay for... the stock here is quality, there are rare prints, gems in the discount sections, and pressings that are no longer available for order; the selection is constantly updated and if you're looking for a specific record you can't find anywhere else - Bill can tap into his blackmarket rolodex and locate it for you. At Dudley's, the staff is helpful and just a great group of dudes. I always enjoy a chat with Alex about the last show we've been to, or a new band we've started listening too...it's all music, all the time - which adds to the charm and vibe of the place. Dudley's is the kind of local business you want to support because it's clearly built on passion, not just profit. Been back into collecting new and vintage vinyl for a few years (after a looong hiatus) and Dudley's is my go to. I refer to it as The Temple of Sublime Sound. I adore this place. So many vinyls and cd's. I have two modes at The Temple. Specific Spins and Browsing for Beauty. I nearly always arrive looking for a Specific Spin (or Spins), then Browse for Beauty as there's always so much about, which I wasn't aware I needed. On the off chance I don't find my specific spin (which is rare given the 30k or so vinyls in stock), so far, I have not once been able to stump Bill or his capable crew of young music stewards in finding and acquiring my latest current obsession. They ring me up when my orders arrive (usually in a couple days), and as a bonus, they've got a solid collection of band patches, stickers, t-shirts and variety merch and there's always, always an engaging, eclectic and informed converstation about some relevant or interesting topic. My Son (19) and I make this a weekly ritual, to stop by and soak in the sounds, pick up some new spins and leave with a smile and a happy heart. If you're in the area and into music, vinyls and cd's... you owe it to your collection to swing in and swing. read more

I want to start off that I have at least interacted with this store 6 times, and I will say that without exaggeration, 4 out of 5 times, it's been a miserable experience. I'm an optimist, and wanted to give this shop a chance, but the majority of the time, it was not good. The first time? I went in looking for a specific vinyl. They didn't have it. The older gentlemen said he could get it. I was thinking in my head: "I'll just go somewhere else," but the older man was so pushy and insistent. He started bringing out the paperwork to order it, and so I was like: "okay, I'll support small business." The second time was when I went to pick up the vinyl. There was a guy who was there who proceeded to insult the record I was picking up. He was like: "What kind of a band name is this? Is this a joke band?" He made some 1970's side project reference that I didn't get, and he just laughed at his own jokes. He went on and on, just ragging on my music choice of this band he had no clue what they sounded like, and I said back: "What does it matter to you? Do you want my money, or not?" I got the record, and I swore off I wasn't coming back. This is where it's my bad because I did come back looking for Record Store Day stuff almost a year later. This would be the third time. They didn't have it. Short and sweet. The fourth time I've interacted, I called, and the old man picks up. The first thing he says when he answered the phone was *literally*: "HUH!? WHAT DO YOU WANT?" I asked if they had "The New Sound" by Geordie Greep. He responded with: "I don't know what that is." That phone call was so off putting, it reminded me not to shop here. The fifth time I went, I asked if they had record accessories. There was only a younger gentlemen working the counter. He told me where I could buy anything for a record player. Very helpful. To this day, this was been the ONE positive interaction I've had with the store. (The score is: 3 negative, one neutral, and 1 positive.) Today, I went asking for a CD of a 1960's band. He told me that it doesn't exist. I know that is not true. I was literally looking at CDs of the band online the other day, and I just wanted to pick it up locally. He said: "Nope. Does not exist. They were a vinyl only band. They don't make CD's of bands before 1980's." I was like: how can you run a record store and say something so obviously wrong? The store literally has CDs of The Zombies, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles. Even still, it was his tone that really turned me off. He was so certain of himself that I clearly had to be in the wrong. I've never seen a store so allergic to money before. I've never seen a guy do everything wrong in pushing away a customer. Anyone who knows me is that I am a forgiving a guy and I'm willing to give people a chance, but whoever that old man is, he's like: "Nope. I just want my business to fail." And so: I hope he gets his wish. The only thing is that I wouldn't want that younger man to lose his source of income, but as far as the older man, he clearly should be doing something else because this ain't it. Every other record store is not like this. I'm not even a big fan of Fingerprints or Amoeba, but I would take them over Dudley's. I live in Torrance. It would be nice to go to an amazing record store that's only 2 minutes away. PM Sounds used to be local and that was an amazing hope. Now, if I really want the record I want with friendly staff, I'd much rather drive 2 hours away to Rhino Record. Lastly, it's definitely a nitpick, but I can't believe this store moved, and the sign just says "Vintage Vinyl." It doesn't even say "Dudley's Records." This is like if the Torrance Tavern that's in the same plaza just said "BAR." I'm glad you're getting to the point, but after this store moved, you had a chance to get the name of your store nicely displayed. But I think that should tell you everything you need to know about this record store. If they couldn't even be bothered to get their own name right on the sign (which is literally one of the simplest things you could do), what makes you think they could bother to give you good service? read more

I came in saying hello with a smile excited to buy some new vinyl but with that attitude I wouldn't spend my money there. So, I checked out this record store, and it was alright. They've got a killer collection of 80's and 90's stuff, but honestly, that's not really my jam. I was hoping to score some cool jazz, big band, and blues records, but it seems like they don't sell much of that. Anyway, they did have some wicked records there, like NOFX, Nirvana, Sade, Sam Cooke, and David Bowie, and a decent blues selection too. Here's the catch though: vinyl ain't cheap, man! Some of the records I wanted were going for a whopping $27 to $40, mostly on the higher end. I get that it's common for records to be pricey, but with Amazon.com around, I gotta say, I'd rather go there. They've got better deals, and sometimes even free shipping. But here's the thing about Amazon: it's all online. No real people to help you out. And that's where this record store could have had an edge. If their customer service was top-notch and they actually gave a damn about showing me around, I'd be more likely to go back. But nope, Mr. Dudley, the dude behind the counter, seemed more interested in taking calls from collectors and setting records aside for them. That's how he's making his dough, I guess. While I was browsing around, trying to figure out the price of something, there were two guys on the floor who clearly worked there. I even mentioned out loud, "I wonder how much this is," and they heard me, but did they help? Nah, man. Later, I found out they were actually employees. The customer service here is seriously lacking. It's like they're more focused on pleasing the collectors than regular customers like me. I get it, money talks, but why not have a store that's worth it with kickass customer service? It's a shame, really. So for now, Amazon.com gets my business. I found the same record I wanted there for 20 bucks cheaper with free shipping. Yeah, it's not as personal, but hey, it's a solid deal. If this record store wants to step up their game and show some love to their customers, then maybe I'll think about giving them another shot. But until then, it's Amazon all the way! As I always say "one and done" ! Update: three star to one star Here's something interesting. I decided to read through their reviews online, and guess what? Turns out, there are more people confirming that Mr. Dudley and his two minions are just as rude as many reviewers claim. So, it wasn't just a one-time thing; these guys are genuinely jerks/ bully's with the responses given by the customers experiences. Here's a suggestion Why not just close your doors indeniftly and your walk in customers. Your customers already know how rude you're already, so just close your doors and take care of your collectors only. Correct the problem! From the very first minute of interaction, the owner seemed irritated by every single question I asked--even though they were basic and asked extremely politely. Questions like whether he had a record in stock, how to place an order, and if it was new. I had come in with high spirits, trying to buy a gift, but I ended up leaving completely stressed out after being treated with such hostility for absolutely no reason. I was visiting Torrance and my two adult children who live in Torrance and LA in early to mid-December, 2024. I decided to buy some LP albums for my son while in the area. I looked up stores on the internet. Saw Dudley's listed and called them asked if they had a particular album (from the 1970s). They did. I went right over and talked to the sales people in the store (sorry don't know who they were, young guy - mid-20s perhaps) and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. I have found some of my favorite vinyl here. Specifically a Glenn Gould selection of Bach. As a collector with a digital first inventory, I come out to record stores for very specific reasons. First is to find copies of albums you simply cannot find on streaming services (especially imports). Secondly to find high quality pressings of all-time great albums, or even mediocre ones if they're rare enough. Thirdly to shop. Like libraries, art galleries and antique stores, record stores are sacred places. I can tell that there are young people around who don't understand the hierarchy of things. A record store employee is like the king of the pickup court. You don't walk up to them and start spewing out a bunch of newbie questions and get pissy. They're not baristas. They are historians and curators and collectors of the highest order. But also, unlike librarians and college professors, every item in their music library is owned by them. You are walking through their record collection. They're not just sitting at the front desk to answer your stupid questions, you have to come up with a very good one that shows you've got game. That's where the respect comes in. So to shop in a record store, you have to take your time and walk your fingers through the bins and let every album cover take you on a journey of memory with sparks of curiosity. It sucks when you don't have memory or curiosity. I know. I was young once and only knew a couple dozen bands and what was hot on the radio. The more you know music, the more you can discern the flavor of the collector whose inventory you are browsing. That's the personal touch and the difference between record stores and the Costco approach of Amazon. Those with wisdom recognize the beauty of shopping many different record stores in appreciation of their diversity of selection. Shopping is learning. It's reading. If you are not in the right mindset, you will be disappointed. Get thee haste to YouTube Music. I'm very happy to see that Dudley's has survived the Pandemic and I will be back to round out some of my collection. Owner is an old white dude who is a complete a**hole. We were welcomed with passive aggressive comments stating that all the cheap stuff was in the front, after being there for a few minutes and gathering some items of interest that he didn't see, he questioned why we didn't have things in our hand to purchase. He continued to be pushy, not listen and answer our questions correctly, and even came into my personal space and then said excuse me passively. As an avid record collector looking for a new local shop, I was aware of bad reviews, but wanted to give him and his shop a chance, but nope. Never again will I come here and will actively deter friends and family from spending their money here. And to top it off, all the prices were overpriced. Plus, it's a terrible sign when a record store had a small international section and lump every random shit together. So I would assume the older dude is the owner "Dudley". If this is indeed the case, this guy lacks any sense of personal skills, salesmanship, or just being a decent human skills. You can't talk to the guy about anything. Upon entering his store, he is immediately rude and seems to ponder why you exist and are in his store. Absolutely no customer service skills. His little minion there is equally as rude. Must be family since similar impersonal qualities or some weird stuff going on there because interrupting them is always awkward. I walked in a couple weeks ago before their advertised closing time and the minion greeted me with "what do you want?" That was legit the greeting. I said "records"?!!?? With a shrug. He replied "I can't help you" mind baffling me while I peered towards the hundreds of records they have. Keep your lousy record collection Dudley. Everyone I talk to about your spot says the collection sucks anyhow and quality of records is lacking. I have tried to give you multiple chances based on proximity to my home but I will gladly take the longer drive to give other more personable, knowledgeable, and reputable record stores my business. The place is always empty anyway so I wonder how long you will be around as it is and I'm sure there is a pretty good reason why you moved locations.... Things aren't going so well I would imagine. I've Been here a handfull of times and I've never experienced the "pushy" attitude that a few people seem to write about in their reviews. Every time I've been given a warm welcome and I've never had a bad experience regarding costumer service. The shop is on the smaller side but they have a decent selection of rock,jazz,blues adn everything in betweeen. The shop is not far from my job so me and my manager like to come here if we have down time.I personally lean towards more obscure and underground metal so I don't always come out with a bag full of things but there's always something to take home. overall, It's a nice little local shop and Torrance doesn't many of them so give them a shot and support local businesses. read more

This is great vintage vinyl shop that recently opened. More than just a vast array of records, they also have tons of CDs, posters, stickers, t-shirts, you name it... As a long time collector of vinyl, I truly vouch for this store as their selection is vast and their prices are reasonable. For those of you who do or do not know the South Bay, this shop is located in the shopping complex on the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Anza. As it is in the shopping complex, there is a large parking lot in front of the shop, so parking is never a problem. The owner is very knowledgeable about his vinyl and has been in the business for a long time. I am told he first operated a shop in Portland before eventually opening his shop here in Torrance. So, you know you will get the kind of service that you need. What is also unique about the shop is that the owner is willing to search out products that you desire. Everything from Led Zeplin to Billy Idol. All around the shop they had band T's and Posters for sale. This stuff was a rockers dream. Sold some cool stickers too. We bought some stickers.
