Great selection! The store definitely specializes in the metal genre, half the store is metal, however the non metal half has one of the best general selections I've seen in a record store! This store is definitely worth checking out even if metal isn't your thing. Most albums are new and a little on the pricey side, around 30-50. I would have probably bought more if the value was better, but I was stoked with what I did walk away with and will definitely visit again for the great curation. Cool staff, nice store. read more

You'll swear you've died and gone to h3ll. Being a fan of any subgenre of extreme metal, you kind of expect to be an afterthought in any record or merch shop where your favorite bands' records are haphazardly tossed into a bin simply labeled "METAL" somewhere near the back of the store. Bionic Records did the opposite. They thoughtfully organized records into subgenres for black metal, death metal, stoner/doom and thrash. I estimated 200+ records each for black metal and death metal. A little less for stoner/doom and thrash. There is a wall of 30+ tshirts on the right side of the store of only extreme metal bands (Burzum, Sacramentum, Death, etc). The left wall has 30+ tshirts of mostly thrash or old school metal bands (Overkill, Slayer, etc). Lots of patches, some books, some limited releases and some action figures. Within 10 minutes, my wife and the owner were talking about Havukruunu and the owner also knew how hard it is to get their tshirts. The place has a very friendly vibe (shout out to the dude in the Summoning tshirt that also likes Havukruunu and Oranssi Pazuzu). Guaranteed you'll find something you like, no matter how underground. The owner will even work with you to coordinate with the label or distributor to bring in something you can't find. read more

I came in to sell some old metal / punk / grind / etc. Mike is cool, professional, and knows his stuff. Bionic has been around for years and always has my type of music. I was able to get a good price on the stuff I was selling and will probably use it to buy some new stuff. Highly recommend this place if you haven't already. read more

Honestly one of the best record stores I've been to. They carry a lot of heavy and black metal records and I was surprised to see them carry Lifelover. I always come here once in a while after my classes, and the owner is always friendly and welcoming. read more

This place is great. I've made several purchases here. they mainly stock heavy metal, punk and rock n roll. Kind of make you wish that Tower Records didn't go ch.7. But they also have vinyl They know quite a bit about the bands that they stock. A bit about new releases. They also store DVD's and can get you concert tickets. read more

I used to frequent Bionic Records back in the 90s when it used to be located across the street from Cypress College. I didn't realize it had moved, so I assumed it went out of business. I'm glad to see it's still in business after all these years. Record stores are a dying breed so I give Bionic props for staying afloat. Unfortunately, the selection has gone down quite a bit, which is understandable. It seems to be focusing more on death metal and not much on anything else. This is definitely not the place to get top 40 or pop music. It has an ok selection of general rock music and some vinyl, but not much used CDs. Used CDs are located near the register area and not well organized. It was hard to browse through them because they were stacked vertically. All CDs are stored behind the register. Only the blank cases are displayed on shelves and bins. If you are into death metal, this is the place for you. If you have a more general taste in music, you will need to go to places like Amoeba, Rhino, or Second Spin. Even though I like some heavy stuff, I couldn't find the ones I wanted. I will probably still stop by on occasion to browse through used CDs since the selection changes frequently. read more

Bionic Records is located in a strip mall at Ball Rd and Valley View St. Plenty of free parking in the shared lot. This store is like one narrow hallway, but filled so much rad music. Mainly vinyl on the right side and cds to the left. Used and new. Additionally, they have cool t-shirts and other memorabilia. What do I love about this store so much? They specialize in punk and metal. They have other genres, but it's fairly limited. And the dudes working here dressed in all black are super friendly and helpful. Very competitive prices. I scored Bo Diddley's "16 All-Time Greatest Hits" LP (out of 1,350 produced) and a 2-LP set of The Who's "The Kids Are Alright" (out of 3,000) on Record Store Day 2018. No price gouging here. Plus I wasn't even here with the insane 7 AM crowd. More like 10:30 AM and busy, but not enochlophobia (fear of large crowds) type of busy. Make sure to stop by when you're in Buena Park. Visiting from out of town and this was the closest record store that I could get to. Very glad it was because it's a great place with cool, laid back people working there. Everyone is friendly and seem to be very into music like their customers. Prices are fair and selection was great, even for RSD. Will come here again whenever I'm in town. read more

This is one of the best record stores I have ever been to. They sell a variety of metal & punk merchandise that can be hard to find. I've been a fan of this store for years. They have never let me down. I bought a Darkthrone patch & CD, an Iron Maiden CD, a Cannibal Corpse shirt & CD & many other things throughout the years I've shopped here. They sell CD's, records, shirts, memorabilia, etc. They didn't have what I needed this visit, but that was a special circumstance. Prices may be on the higher side, but I'm fine supporting the local record store. There are not enough of them around here. Don't let the photos fool you, this place is super small. First thing I noticed was the smell, almost like the under layer of a ballsack. Not a fan. A great selection of vinyl and CDs and tons of shirts and the owner will even go out of his way to special order stuff for his regulars. A friendly and knowledgeable atmosphere. I first walked into Bionic Records in Huntington Beach when I was 13. Like Nick S., I too had a run-in with that infamous RHCP poster where they "all have socks on their junk." All the more memorable because it was pointed out to me by my dad! "Dad, you're embarrassing me!" That was 20 years ago. This place will always be a special part of my memories growing up. I grew up in Cypress and I thought the Cypress location was the one cool thing about that mundane, suburban town. I appreciate my home town for other things now, but...yeah. So my heart sank when I drove by the old location and saw that it was empty. And my heart lifted when I later realized that they had just moved up the street! Phew! Despite what impressions other people may have about growing up "behind the Orange Curtain," somewhere between Bionic and (if you remember it) Request Video, which broadcast out of Anaheim on KDOC, my really awesome taste in music formed. :P read more

As a general rule of mine, just about any halfway decent Mom & Pop record store gets an automatic 5-star rating. There are just far, far too few of these left anymore. In fact, according to my friend who's been coming here since they opened, the addition of the skate shop on the other side of the store is probably the only reason they remain afloat. They have a wondrous selection of CDs (both new & used), vinyl records, t-shirts, stickers, patches and music videos spanning from old-school metal to hip-hop, punk, black metal, etc. My only complaint, and I realize why this is done, is that their prices on CDs are kinda high. Now I know that this is because you're not just buying a tangible item, but also supporting the store and helping to keep them in business. But I just can't justify paying $17.99 for an album in this day and age - ever. Luckily, my friend did, so I didn't feel so bad walking around aimlessly in here for 20 min. and coming up empty handed. I own too much crap as it is, but I was tempted by some of the classic stickers they had available. Stores like this got me wet back in my youth; today they're still lots of fun to browse through, but the magic just isn't the same in this digital age. read more

eeeehhhhhhhhhhh I've seen better. Their selection is strange. They are lacking in many genres, such as folk, experimental and pop. They have a lot of metal and hardcore punk. And their new releases section is tiny. I guess they have a lot more cd's than they do vinyl, but the prices aren't even that great. I walked away with two records from their bargain bin. It took me FOREVER to find something I liked. I got a rare Jethro Tull vinyl for like 2 bucks and a new unopened The Aluminum Group for about 4 bucks. Just went to this store for the first time and it will be my go to record store. Bought 11 used albums for $2 each. Mike is really nice. He noticed I was looking at used albums and pointed out a couple boxes he received and did not have time to put away. Found a lot of albums in great condition. Guess it's time I update my review, eh? When I wrote my last one, I didn't think that Bionic would be open in 2013. Many other stores have come and gone but none have lasted as long as Bionic. Bionic has a slew of t-shirts, CDs, and a modest selection of vinyl. I'm not interested in the first two, so I'll only write about the records. They specialize in punk with an increasing collection of classic rock. That stuff is not exactly my cup of tea, but if you're looking for Zeppelin or Hendrix, you're bound to find it here. I keep coming back to Bionic because they tend to have some really random finds at a good price. I've been surprised with some hard to find metal, post-punk, and even Klaus Schulze records. Just gotta be tenacious. read more

Man, these guys utilize every inch of this place. This place is packed with everything, t-shirts and sweaters of your favorite bands, patches, stickers, cd's, vinyl, and so much more. This place is definitely geared more towards punks and heavily metalists, but I did see a few vinyls of reggae. The staff was really nice and super cool to chat with. You don't feel like an outsider coming in. Only thing I wish they had was more of a variety and options for women. I'll have to ask if they have any that aren't on display the next time I come back. read more

It's hard to find good used music stores in the OC 'burbs, but here's one gem! The selection is rather skewed to the demographic (there is a high school next door) so unless you like the fare of the young uns, you're SOL for anything beyond ska, punk, indie, and emo. read more

I come here for the metal LPs and patches. I got a nice Katatonia patch with their old logo here for cheap. They always have the rare record store day merch here as well, like the Katatonia Buildings 7" I have. Otherwise, I found a really rare Green Carnation LP here. They also have a huge selection of metal shirts and hoodies which seem to be good quality. Bionic is no Dark Realm Records, but they are definitely the #2 record store in the area. read more

Came in here with a buddy to browse. Amoeba music is sort of the golden standard but that's a little unfair considering everything. A lot of shirts to look at but the sizing and selection has really been picked over. Same with music. I honestly think these guys are on their last limbs for the store which is sad because I used to go to these places when I was a kid after school to hangout and check out new tunes. This is a great place for metal and death metal lovers, good selection and solid shirts.. But besides that it's sort of a swap meet. I hope this place keeps its doors open, else Amoeba will truly be one of the last ones standing. read more
