OMFG! I had no idea they relocated. Back in the day I would trek to Fullerton for a ridiculously awesome music selection..they are the reason I fell in love with Punk! And when i went to that lamesville college just down the street they kept me going..I visited there all the time and they always kept me informed onthe best shows and live music! My first memories of this place are from my youth in 1990/91 when while eating Chinese food next door I was brought here by a family friend to look at countless Iron Maiden Eddy posters and the Red Hot's Fight Like a Brave poster where they all have socks on their junk. Throughout the years I came to like every single bionic for various reasons. HB had the best used cd's, Cypress the most punk, and Fullerton had a large selection of American and English indie as well as a lot of experimental. Of course everyone has their own opinions and friends would argue that Fullerton had more punk and HB's used selection was miniscule. But alas those stores are gone and the Cypress location is *gasp* the Buena Park location. Bionic continues to be a great store with a great selection. I frequently special order my music through here and quite often find new and old music at Bionic that I might not have gotten into otherwise. However one of the great and enduring aspects of Bionic is the record store culture. In ten minutes at the store you can listen to glassy eyed musings from an old metalhead about partying at Gazzarri's and the Cathouse in 87, or meet some punk who was in your favorite local band ten years ago. Mostly though the talk centers around music, but once in awhile you get the oral history lesson about the Golden Bear, or Fenders Ballroom, or *gosh* Koo's Cafe. Bionic is kind of like Wikipedia and Amazon in that you can purchase music, movies, and rock stuff (gotta get them Misfits badges), but also learn things about music and life (like don't do a lot of drugs in the 1980's). Stopped by to find some vinyls for dad and was surprised by the awesome selection. First of all, record/vinyl stores are hard to come by these days so having this so close was amazing. This place is alright...I haven't been here in a while since Tower Records seems to always be cheaper then this place...which boggles my mind. Alright selection and the organization is helpful. It's small. This place just doesn't seem to stand up to anything... the last time I went there, there was a surprisingly decent used section..although small. A great place if you like punk rock, rap, rockabilly... hardcore? They have a decent selection of used cds too. It is also a place to buy clothing if you are into skater punk fashion. The store is relatively small, but no space is wasted. I'd say it's about 60/40 CDs and vinyl. The used LP section was pretty small, but decent quality and priced reasonably. Most of the stock (vinyl at least) was recent pressings and re-issues. Pricing is what has become the standard, I didn't see more than one or two new records priced under $15. Recommended if you're looking to grab clean, new copies of punk standards you're missing (Cramps, Misifts, Circle Jerks, etc) and one of the better metal sections in SoCal. read more

I'm getting close the 15 year mark of going to bionic. They've always had a decent selection of vinyl. My favorite bionic was the Fullerton store. always had the best metal section. Bionic in cypress had a great 7" bin. I find it unfortunate that the setting is smaller now, but I still enjoy that place. read more

Being one of those kids in high school who always had to be wearing an underground heavy metal t-shirt, I've been a fan of Bionic for over 7 years now. I feel like a woman shopping when I try on a Darkthrone or Mayhem shirt; with maybe the band's logo on the front or perhaps the album cover art. I've got some awesome clothing in there-Darkthrone, Mayhem, Belphegor, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Death, Deicide, etc. In other words; all the greats of 90's death and black metal. I've also outfitted myself with a denim jacket full of pins and patches I've purchased there as well. Unfortunately, the prices are a little high for my wallet. $20 + tax for a t-shirt is fine; but not when the logo starts to fade after a few weeks of wearing and washing. If the shirts were $10 I'd have bought out most of their death metal shirts YEARS ago, but instead I had to wait for birthdays/Christmas/work bonuses to shop there. Also, despite their great CD collection, $11 and up for CDs nowadays is simply asinine. I'm into "supporting the bands" as much as anybody, but not if it means I can't even give it a listen! Blowing $45 for 2 shirts and a -used- CD just isn't for me. Either way, this place is still great, so come in with extra money! Oh yeah, and they sell skateboarding accessories/ punk rock clothing. Independent record stores are a dying breed. Bionic Records has almost gone the way of Zed Records. They've downsized immensely. Which, in a way, is good because they still exist. Not as much to browse through as before, but you might find a gem here and there. They still have a lot of T-shirts, bumper stickers and buttons to choose from. I'd like to support these types of record stores more, but I just find most music today to be hollow. Not only mainstream, but underground/garage/punk bands. I don't think there's one band in the last ten years that I've really been able to latch on to. Maybe I'm just old. read more

This place looks like its on the way out. The selection of music is like going to a garage sale; it sucks. Their CD's are way too expensive. They have more vinyl than CD's so if you want to dig through the piles upon piles of them on the floor, go ahead. The only reason I go there is for the T-shirts. Last time i went here it had moved in next door with the skate shop. i am not sure if that was just temporary? Either way i have been coming here since i was about 3. they used to have a dinosaur in the back and i used to always love to see it when i was little. I haven't bought anything here in the past years. the store kinda makes one feel uncomfortable if you don't know so much about music. Absolutely fantastic, Mike is an awesome dude who knows his music. Ask about an artist you're interested in, and he'll give his honest picks on the albums worth while. If you are looking for some awesome tees, look EVERYWHERE! You will almost definitely find the music you are looking for, if not just ask and it will be ordered. The greatest thing about Bionic, is that it takes you back in time and gives you a chance to embrace a little hole-in-the-wall location for its wonderful nostalgia. Well, a while back, iTunes came about. iTunes was apparently the best way to get music. Soon after, Tower Records went down, the worst day of my life, and before you knew it, so did every other record store around. This place is one of the last record stores around (there are a few around, but this is the one I found, so) They have a good selection of more popular artists, like Slayer, Dead Kennedys, etc. Then there's an even better selection of more underground artists, like Vader, Cradle of Filth, etc. They also have a pretty good collection of used CD's which go for pretty cheap (got Archetype by Fear Factory [With Bonus DVD] for $5.99). They also had plenty of vinyls, stickers, patches, and shirts of which I do not recall the prices for, and a few tapes if I recall correctly. Speaking of prices... the new CD's seem to range pretty high, from $17.99-20.99 for most. That's my only complaint, but you can't blame them, the only reason they're still around is because they merged with the skate shop nextdoor. Oh yeah, there's a skate shop too. Overall, a pretty nice place to get some really good music, and if you feel like it, maybe some new trucks for your board, or maybe a new board, but you'll have to be willing to dish out a few dollars more for either. read more
