If there is a platonic ideal form of a cajun crawfish diner, Dwight's is it. Recommended to me by a Lafayette local, I now know that I will never again eat spicy boiled crawfish this good again, unless I make my way to Dwight's again. That return visit is made even more complicated by the fact that Dwight's is only open during crawfish season, roughly January-May. One piece of advice: if you order the hot spiced version of the crawfish (which I recommend) you should bring along protective goggles, so that you don't have to experience the mace-like sensation of having crawfish rub squirt into your eye, as I did. Given that 3 pounds of ultra-fresh boiled crawfish only cost a meager $13, you will have plenty of cash left over to pay for the goggles. read more

This place offers several menu items. I'm going to focus on the ball crawfish. Once I ordered the hot since they told me there was one level above that which was Thai hot. The crawfish was very well seasoned but when they say hot they mean it. I had to actually boil the crawfish when I got home to get some of the spice out so that I was able to eat them.The level of spice is different for each & every place.just know that hot is very hot & Thai hot is out of this world hot. read more

I can't wait for Sundays because Dwight's has their famous BBQ. Get there early on Sunday's because they tend to run out of the choices for meats. Your BBQ plate comes with a side of the best dirty rice I've ever had, french bread, and two other side choices that consists of: green beans, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, and gumbo/ettouffe. Then you have different choices for your meats: half a rack of ribs, pork steak, brisket, and white/dark chicken. By far, their ribs are up to par along with their excellent BBQ sauce. Out of all the places I ate in Lafayette during my time here spent for work, this place takes the cake. I never had me some boiled crawfish but I see what all the fuss is about now. The boiled craw fish is seasoned very spicy and tasty just the way i like it. Alot of work to get some meat from the crawfish but if you are a lover of seafood, you can't go wrong. I loved stuffed crab and shrimp as well. People here in Lafayette know what's up seafood. The locals here talk about all the seafood at this place so it appears to be a place you can't go wrong. Literally spell it out what you want many times on phone orders and you will get EXACTLY what you don't want! Went here tonight with family and friends. I got the grilled shrimp platter, shrimp very small, menu said 21 I counted 15. Bake potatoe had fake cheese on top, I scraped off, potatoe not hot. I traveled to Louisiana with my mom so we could enjoy the culture and food. On our driving trek (from Houston airport) to New Orleans, this was one of our foodie highlights. Our mission in Cajun country was to attend the Crawfish Festival and dine on great crawfish. I love plain old boiled crawfish - actually, far from "plain" with all the spices used when done right. I had read Yelp reviews, and figured this was our place. Simple yet funky atmosphere. Dwight's was busy and full of locals, right In the middle of Crawfish Festival weekend in nearby Breaux Bridge (which we attended during the day - awesome Cajun music and snacking). We arrived just before a wait list began, and had an adorable and efficient young waitress, Brittnie. She guided our dining choices and we splurged with an order of barbequed oysters before our crawfish extravaganza. They are served on a half shell with a crazy good sauce and some cheese, with a tang of barbeque flavor from the fiery grill they are cooked over. Really delicious, but a bit rich for me. Mom loved them. Next up, boiled crawfish. They come with a piece of corn and a couple of spicy red potatoes, in either a 3 lb. or 5 lb. serving. Brittnie assured us that she can eat the 5 lb., so I ordered that, while mom went for the 3 lb. Mind you, after learning at the Crawfish Festival that for each "pound" of crawfish, only about 15% of that is actually the meat, I didn't feel too much of a glutton. That is until I finished. No room for dessert, that's for sure. And every last bite was exactly what I had hoped for. Cooked to perfection, a nice little spicy burn, not too bland and not too hot. Afterwards, Brittnie offered a tour of the back kitchen to see the crawfish sorting machine, the barbeque pit, and the crawfish cooking area. Awesome! Asked the "chefs" a few questions... one answer was particularly interesting: On the busiest of weekends, they can cook up to 2000 lbs. of crawfish. Oh my. If you're from out of town, and you want what's best about SW LA food, this is one of the greats. No gimmicky lump crab meat in a cream sauce over EVERY entree as some others do, just simple great food. You won't be impressed by the atmosphere (each table has a trash can in the middle-you'll understand). You won't be impressed by the presentation, and you'll scoff at the amount of fried items. I got a yelp just so that I could tell the world about Dwights. Locals recommended this place at our hotel and it soon became clear why. The chicken was some of the most tender chicken I think I have ever had any restaurant. A for sure must have. We got the dark meat so I can't comment on the white meat. The brisket was okay. it was more like shredded brisket instead of sliced brisket so it affected the texture and tenderness. The rice dressing was good, the baked beans were good, I like my beans sweet so this worked for me. The green beans were pretty standard. I also got a link of boudin and that was also good. This is the worst place ever! Bathrooms are dirty and the worst was the cockroaches by my table. The crawfish was gray and under seasoned and my beer was flat. Spicy, very big crawfish (for early march). They are on the pricey side, but 3 pounds plus boiled onions added on filled me up. The tables have big holes in the middle so you don't have to pile your shells up, and they give you mayo and horseradish to make your own sauce. read more

Great food, best crawfish anywhere, they treat all their guest and employees as family, servers are always ready with a smile. Sunday's barbecue is fantastic one meal will feed two people. The hamburgers are zesty and cooked fresh buy Linda, the steaks are hand cut and flame broiled, the brisket is second only to my own ( my opinion ). Dwight's is open year round for lunch, dinner service is only available during crawfish season, but that is subject to change. After many years thinking that Dwights only served crawfish on Friday and Saturday nights, I was amazed after waking up early enough on a Sunday morning to discover their Sunday barbecue. Chick, Pork Steak, Sausage, Brisket and a host of sides are available for your choice. "The Regular" comes with dirty rice, pork-n-beans, potato salad and your choice of meat. I usually settle for a "Double Dark" chicken, rice and beans. The chicken is light on sauce (served on the side if you'd like), and falls off the bone. It is as tender as any chicken I've ever had. The brisket is very tender and is usually served in its own gravy (again sauce on the side). The sausage is well cooked and a bit crispy, and I'm not a big pork steak fan. Flash forward to years of eating either crawfish or Sunday barbecue and suddenly I discovered Friday lunch with friends. Again, the same winding line as described in other reviews, and the serving is the same. Pick a main, pick 2 sides and maybe get yourself a dessert. I have a thing for the 1/2 and 1/2, fried shrimp covered with crawfish etouffe. Amazaing. In the end it is a bit on the pricey side, where a barbecue plate or lunch plate as described above with a drink will run you $20. So its not on the cheap side. Other drawbacks are for both Sunday and week day lunches, the parking lot is FULL, and its hard to find a place to park. But if you're lucky enough to find a space, its worth it! read more

My first crawfish experience as a visitor to the area was awesome. I ate the half and half platter (half fried half crawfish etouffe) and my dining companion had half and half on a poboy (dwight's special). The etouffe was creamy and plentiful. We also had a good corn and crab dip. Very casual, and definitely the place to go for piles of food. Appears to be a local favorite, and I can see why. read more

What's wrong with you people. From NOLA, worst crawfish étouffée ever. Swimming in butter and so spicy you could not taste the crawfish.

Went there last Friday night for crawfish and it was outstanding. Long wait, but worth it and cheap beer. Will be going back soon.
