I reserved a table online early one Friday morning for 8p that same night. The reservation was accepted and I began receiving notifications and reminders. I began doubting Chimes would honor my reservation while driving there and to my surprise(or not) I was correct. There were at least 100 people waiting inside and out. I was told by the host that there was short wait but of course I didn't believe her especially with a full wedding party spawning out of thin air, lol. I enjoyed the blackened salmon with the herb butter and those mashed sweet potatoes are always worthy of take the extras home to enjoy for dessert later. He was the best possible choice for our Mother's Day group and definitely was a great addition to our experience! Being it was a Sunday and Mother's Day it was a bit of a wait but that's to be expected. The interior was super spacious and had an outdoor patio for dining as well. The bar was fully stocked and it was hard to find any working who didnt have a smile. The menu was a trifold with a lot of different options to go with whatever taste you had so naturally my table ordered some of everything. Our appetizers consisted of crab claws buffalo wings and bacon cheese fries with jalepenos every app came out hot flavorful and enough to share the only suggestion i had was that the crab claws should come with bread but we did buy a side order of bread for a dollar. For entrees we ordered seafood lasagna, ribeye, fried seafood plate catfish with etoufee and a poboy. EVEYTHING was perfectly seasoned and cooked fresh it may have been the quietest we've been since sitting down while stuffing our faces. I definitely recommend stopping here to try it out. We waited about 19 minutes and were seated on the patio. Weather was perfect. The garage doors were open. We got the sautéed crab fingers. I highly recommend these! They come in a delicious garlic butter. We also got 1/2 dozen oysters. I got the seafood pasta for my entree. It was great. I do think it had too much sauce for the amount of noodles. My friend and I decided to go shopping in Lafayette from Alexandria. After shopping she suggested we go to the chimes. Let's just say she was right on the money for picking this restaurant. This is by far one of the best restaurants that I've eaten at in 10 years. Its on my favorite list now and I will definitely come back to eat. The food was amazing. I had our server to pick his favorite and I decided to go with that. I end up eating the fried chicken and linguine and my friend ordered the same. Our entrees came with salads which were good also. We did start off with crawfish cheese fries and they were delicious. I ordered a drink from the bar, my signature drink the espresso martini. We are here with friends while visiting in town. Stopped in on a Friday night around 6:30pm. The wait for 5 was about 15-20 minutes. It was incredibly busy but people were getting seated pretty quick. The service was superb! The restaurant has nothing to absorb sound and was so incredibly loud we could barely visit, had to almost yell at each other to be heard. The temperature in the restaurant was so cold to the point of being very uncomfortable. For appetizers we got the spinach dip, the crunchy bow tie pasta with it was something I had never had but we all agreed it was very good. I have gone to tho restaurant many times. These are things you can count on. 1. You will walk into the restaurant and find a sorority of "employees" giggling and talking as if in a high school bathroom. None will greet you. You just walk into the bar disgusted. 2. You will sit and if not at the bar you will watch a parade of "employees " walk past and likely have to go to the bar to ask for water or a menu. 3. Often, you just ask for a manager and express your frustration and try to move on. 4. The food is marginal and the environment is loud but is a nice restaurant. The restaurant doesn't take reservations but, after a brief wait, we were perfectly seated in an area that accommodated two walkers and a bunch of balloons. Walking in, there is plenty of parking, the decor and vibe are great, and the help is friendly. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. I was with a larger party that met in the bar area first. Many had mixed drinks that just didn't taste good. One that was supposed to have pineapple juice didn't have anything pineapple related in it. The bartender was nice and remade, but it wasn't any better. A group of current and former servers and bartenders know what things taste like and are extremely polite. As far as the food, the mozzarella balls plain were good, but the marinara was just bland. Ok, not an Italian place. I had original char grilled oysters, and they weren't bad but needed a couple more minutes. Well, they are very crowded. My dish had a salad with it as a side. I chose creamy Italian "homemade" dressing that was supposed to have garlic in it. I tasted literally no spices at all, and I'm a Yankee. Another order a side salad, and hers looked COMPLETELY different (and much better) but her Italian dressing tasted like straight up olive oil, no additions. I got pork scallopini. The pork cutlet was good. The bed of noodles were supposed to have a butter/cheese, herbed and garlic sauce. They were basically buttered noodles with a little cheese and too much oil. I am a longtime favorite of the chimes after going to school at LSU. I was pleasantly surprised that this was opening in Lafayette. I feel like this is exactly what Lafayette means! We arrived at 11 AM and there was a small line outside the door on a Wednesday. However, there is plenty of seating, so don't feel like you need to be there right at 11! The service was very good and the food came out very quickly. It is definitely a great place to go if you have a hour to an hour and a half for a lunch break. I decided to go with the crawfish étouffée and the crab and brie soup. The crab and brie soup was loaded with crab and completely outstanding. It definitely is a heavier soup, so I did not have much room for the crawfish étouffée - that means- TO GO BOX... dinner is served! I also noticed that they had a soup and salad special for about $13 which I thought was an excellent price and great combination for the lunch goer There are plenty of TVs if you are looking to relax and catch some sports as well! The patio area outside is outstanding, but no tables as of yet. Please keep in mind we visited in late November 2023 Highly recommend checking this place out if you are in Lafayette or a local! Do yourselves a huge favor and order the Crawfish Fries! This has to be the best version of "fries with stuff on top" dish I have ever tried, hands down. I also had the BBQ Shrimp poboy, and while these are not traditional New Orleans bbq shrimp (Nola's version are not fried) this is still a darn good poboy and definitely worth a try. The Chimes is a local chain but brand new to the Acadiana area and will be a welcome addition. Lafayette loves a good trendy place to eat out and this place has it all! We enjoyed the sautéed crab fingers. Do yourself a favor and order a few extra pieces of bread to sop up the white wine butter sauce, seriously I could drink the stuff! I ordered the BBQ shrimp Po'boy which was messy but very good. I also had a few bites of my wife's seafood pasta and it was good. The service is essentially just college kids but they are doing a great job. This brings me to the food. The food is solid. Is it the best or even top 5 in the area. No. To me, everything is slightly under seasoned. Maybe that's why there is Tony's on the table. By no means is the food bad. It's like 7.9/10.
