They have, by far, the most experienced technicians you can find. I tried another company to save a bit and deeply regretted doing that. ANOTHER 5 STAR VISIT. Every service call I've had from this company since starting with them three years ago has been 5 stars. Each of the various techs has been polite, professional, and HIGHLY knowledgeable. The company keeps my elevator in shape, and fixes it right the first time when it gets hit from the outside (like a power surge). They're a bit pricey, but not too much, and anyway when I'm riding in a tiny box between floors with no clear way out, I want to know it's been maintained at the level of Air Force One. Had they told me that they didn't have the parts and time and had to return in a couple of days, all would be fine. My honest opinion is I have been very pleased with service over the past 2-3 years. The technicians explain what's needed. Where I thought we would be experiencing an expensive repair on our older elevator, they found a way to make an adjustment or two at a reasonable cost to keep the lift in fine condition. I rarely give reviews, but as a manager of a commercial building, I deal with a lot of trades and unprofessionalism. Over the years, I've had SO many issues with companies being unresponsive, not showing up when promised, or being less than honest when assessing problems on the property. We called this company in the morning because our fire alarm was causing the elevators to override and remain open. The fire department came out but could not resolve the issue. When we called Dawn Elevator, they showed up within the 4 hour window they promised. Dispatch kept us updated by text--when the tech was en route, when he arrived, and when the job was complete. I've had companies before say they did maintenance on our elevator and have no knowledge of them showing up ever. So this was great! Nick was the technician who came out, and he was excellent. He was professional, well-spoken, cleanly presented, and clearly knowledgeable. Most importantly, he came across as very honest and trustworthy. Dwan Elevator would not sell me the parts and told me to have the tech order it for me. Its apparent that they do not want to deal with small orders or individuals. I have a small elevator (they call a lift I guess) and it wouldn't work so called Dwan Elevator to see what the problem was. First off I had to sign that I would pay $370 per hour and was very specific that it started from when he was on his way. He got to my home in 1/2 hour and spent 2 hours trying to find the problem. He found the switch did not work, and after that said he couldn't fix it and left it 1 foot from the floor, so I couldn't even open the door in case I could find someone else to fix the switch. You have to get on a ladder to operate it from the box on top I guess. Still trying to figure that out. I thought it was a very poor wat to do business since they didn't even give me a written report of what they did, what was wrong, and what had to be done? All I got was a bill for $925.00. I wrote a letter since I was so upset and they did respond with issues they said needed to be done but after the way they handled the first visit, I didn't want them coming back. I should have read the Yelp reviews before I had them come out. They said they are old reviews, but they still apply to the way they do business. read more

BEWARE ~! BUSINESS ETHICS ARE SPECIOUS.I scratched their utility truck on the fender when my car turned into their truck. They claimed $4000 work of damage including a rental from Enterprise. My car had NO damage and I made no claim. Liberty Mutual Insurance claims adjuster allowed the entire amount. I made no claim. read more

We've used Dwan a few times for service on our home's small elevator. This last time they came out for routine maintenance, and then spent an extra half hour working on an elevator door. We got a bill for over $600, including .75 hours for travel. When we deducted the travel time from our bill and paid, the company said we should pay the rest because in the past they had snuck in larger travel charges and even a bridge toll fee. Obviously we would not have paid a bridge toll (for an Oakland-based company!) or travel or mileage if we had noticed those on our past bills. The idea that Dwan thought this was a compelling argument illustrates quite a bit about how the company does business. If you have no alternative, make sure you get a firm quote and a commitment about whether they're going to charge for travel time, mileage, and bridge tolls. read more

This is the worst company and worst follow up I have ever dealt with. They will show up on your job site. TALK about how they can help you. They can install this and do that. They give you the big horse and pony show, but then IF your job is too small; forget it!! They do not want to deal with smaller jobs.Meaning if you only have ONE lift to install. I wanted two lifts installed on two different properties. After SEVERAL calls over 3 weeks,, Still nothing... I have left messages and spoke with the installers, estimators. Still I get the run-around. Then finally the excused come floating in. 1) I cant find a contractor to install it.. DUH.. i thought you were the one installing it. 2) The boss went on Vacation. 3) He is back from vacation let me see what I can do. 4) STILL NOTHING..They just sit back and wait for you to go away. I know what they are doing. Keeping busy on "the big job" They are just too busy to help. When the "the big job" is finished and your looking to just stay a float. In addition, they have gone out of their way all these years to be helpful to me in an emergency. However, this week will make me grateful to them forever. Contrary to that, our experience of the installation of our residential elevator in San Francisco and the subsequent maintenance through our service contract has been top-notch. Our elevator is of excellent quality, and the twice-yearly regular maintenance has kept our elevator running smoothly without trouble since 2006. The project manager and installers at Dwan Elevator worked seamlessly with our general contractor, Dan Cappelletti & Sons, to provide a perfect elevator solution for our home. The project, occurring in an older San Francisco residence, posed lots of permitting difficulties and space-use issues, and this team was perfect in solving every problem. We trust Dwan Elevator completely, and I would provide any potential customer of Dwan Elevator an opportunity to see how well the elevator operates (this arrangement would need to be made through Dwan Elevator).
