Stealth Fees, Refusal to Work, and Zero Transparency I would give zero stars if possible. I had a technician from JEM Appliance out for a gas dryer repair. I explicitly told them I would pay for the correct part and the installation on the spot if they could provide it. Instead of completing the job, the tech refused, told me I had to find the part myself, and left. Then came the surprise: a $125 "trip charge" that was never disclosed when I booked the appointment. They are now demanding payment for a visit where they refused to actually perform a repair or provide a solution. To make matters worse, I have been unable to verify their business registration with the California Secretary of State or the Bureau of Household Goods and Services. This is a classic "bait and switch" where they make their money on undisclosed service fees rather than actual repairs. I am formally disputing this charge with my credit card company. Property owners and homeowners: stay away. There are plenty of reputable, transparent services in the Bay Area and this isn't one of them. read more

Made an appointment with JEM to take a look at my dishwasher and they were a no show. So I tried calling them throughout the day but no reply. They simply just no-showed. No call, no reschedule, nothing. I was referred JEM by another appliance person who was too busy so he gave me their number. I should have looked at the yelp reviews first, because I would have seen the horrible reviews that could have anticipated my experience. Jem Appliance was selected by the insurance company servicing my extended warranty to help repair my Electrolux dryer. The first company selected by the insurance company was horrible, not showing up at all after repeated calls hour after hour to say they would be there in the next 30 minutes. Jem Appliance was a breath of fresh air after that! Jose from Jem Appliance arrived early in the time window for both visits, and didn't even flinch at the sight of my stacked washer/dryer in a narrow closet - climbing up on top of the dryer to inspect it. In the first visit, he identified the problem and ordered the parts. Some of the parts weren't scheduled to arrive for many weeks, so he substituted from his own supply (even though this was an *insurance driven call*) in order to get my dryer fixed for me to use in the next week. He and his co-worker were very friendly and polite throughout the whole visit, and replaced the electronics in less than an hour. I will definitely use Jem Appliance going forward for any issues that come up with my other appliances! read more

I was busy and called back around 1140 - they said tech could be there in 15 minutes - I said ok - what happened to 12-4 ? then they called back saying tech couldn't find parking (wholly untrue but ok) and can not fit in underground but there was also not parking ?? Made an appointment to come out a fix a problem on a rangetop. Technician came, said it needed a new part, and they'd contact me within a week to schedule the actual repair. Charged a $95 diagnostic fee. Two months later I can't get them to even return my phone calls let alone come back to fix the rangetop. I've given up after 5+ calls where they promised to call me back and nothing. Total waste of two months and $95. I'd avoid them - there are plenty of other options in the East Bay. read more

I signed up for a warranty for my refrigerator and was given JEM service as a number to contact for repairs. I was rather cautious about appliance repair companies but JEM ended up being great. I made an appointment via phone and in a few days Jose came by to look at my broken ice maker. He quickly looked at it and without any fuss ordered a new part. After 3 weeks since it took time to order the part, the company called me to schedule an appointment. Jose came back and replaced the ice maker fast. He is quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. Jose at JEM is amazing. He fixed my mother's dryer in about one hour, it was a simple thermostat replacement. 2 other companies were left referring her to plumbers or electricians telling her that it's not something they work on and her gas or electrical in her home was the the issue. Once I got wind of the shenanigans the other companies were doing by sending unqualified repair people over, charging her service fees I got involved and called JEM they were simply amazing from the woman who scheduled the service to Jose coming out the next day and fixed the problem. 1/13/2024 bought freezer Frigidaire Model # FFFU16F2VV from Home Depot. The next day I noticed major frost build up, I fiddled with the temperature gauge to see if that was causing it. Frigidaire said the warranty is only 48 hours and they'll send a technician to fix. They've been sending these technicians. We are on the 6th visit from them to have the unit fixed. Freezer is now covered in mold because the door never closed properly and too much moisture got in. They keep insisting they can fix it. Unbelievable! read more

The absolute worst. We had them come on a refrigerator warranty repair, he came in, looked for 5 seconds and said "temperature sensor" then asked to use my bathroom and left. Then it took him over a week to submit the work order to the warranty company. Keep in mind that our refrigerator doesn't work. Then they cancel multiple times over the course of 2.5 months, one time because "he can't come till next week because his car broke down" so now it's been over 3 months, and he came last week and "fixed" it, but it still doesn't work right and they said they won't come back because it's fixed. So to them fixed means that it's OK if you have the refrigerator set at 35 and the temperature ranges from 39 to 55 and everything rots. They're rude, they are unreliable, they don't do what they claim. They say they'll call back and don't, they don't show up on time, it's a four hour window, and you can't make that??? Jose, did a great job of replacing the electric cooktop of my kitchen. Three things I really liked about his services was- First, he was punctual. Second, he replaced the cooktop very quickly and efficiently. The moment he said it was done, my reaction was Wow! It's super fast and looked like a piece of cake for him. We were very fortunate that JEM Appliance was selected as the repair for our extended warranty on our fridge. They actually had to come out three times in total -- first to diagnose, next with the first part and then finally with another part required. And each time, communication about arrival was accurate and they were WELL within the quoted window. Jose was professional and quick each time he came out. (The issue with our fridge turned out to be something pretty rare, so the fact that they had to come out a third time with the additional part was totally reasonable.) read more

I've used this company several times to repair appliances. Once you have your appt and the owner comes to do the work you are in good hands. He is capable, thorough, and fair in his pricing. What could be better is equipping the office staff with the ability to provide ball park estimates for repair if certain info is provided vs. having to schedule a service visit just to diagnose. (ex. how much will it cost to replace a thermocouple on this make and model appliance that you service?) This can help the consumer decide whether or not to proceed with repair or buy a new appliance. Also the office staff did not follow up after they agreed to have the owner contact me to quickly talk through the repair. I ended up buying new machines but will now look around and other repair shops vs remaining loyal to JEM whenever I need appliance repairs or when friends/family ask me who to use. read more

I'm sad to see the review average for this company not higher, but if you filter most recent reviews I would agree with the 5 stars! I've use JEM appliance twice for warranty repairs on my washer. The first time was back in 2017. I didn't post a review - there was nothing drastically wrong or superbly wonderful, they came out and repaired a circuit board on my washer. Job was done and had no issues. So, same washer still under warranty has another issue. I am pleasantly surprised and happy with the quick response to messages that I leave at all hours as my work time is never within any 9-5 range. I needed a part ordered so was asked to email photos of broken parts.. I didn't hear back so followed up a couple days later and the part was already ordered - so yay for that and good that I followed up we all get busy. The part arrived and they called the same day to schedule repair. I figured I'd wait another week or so but they came out a day or so after that worked for me. I was given notice within a reasonable window. I had such personable calls by phone and a very conscientious repair man that was polite, respectful, and efficient. He was done in no time. After testing my washer he was on his way. It's been over a week and several washings now. All is good. I've dealt with many companies with warranty work and it's not always this easy. I'd use JEM even without warranty work and out of pocket. They were great and the polite, efficient work is much appreciated! read more

LG contracted with JEM Appliance to come and fix our new French door refrigerator that had a bad connector causing the door alarm to go off every 30 seconds. The technicians were so upbeat and friendly. Jose was able to quickly diagnose and fix the connection problem. No more beeping!! As an added bonus, he left us with an awesome MacGyver pen tool.
