Dvir is amazing. He always cuts my hair so that it looks great for months. I'm not into high maintenance hair - anything requiring more than 5 minutes in the morning is a no go. He not only gave me a sleek fantastic cut with easy to style bangs, he picked the exact right multifaceted shades of chestnut brown for my hair color. Wonderful salon -- affordable, comfortable, stylish, friendly! I had a latte and cookies while I waited for my cut. Great vibe, great music. I liked my cut a lot but didn't LOVE it, but have faith that once I find the stylist for me, I could be very very happy. I will be going back for sure. They are popular though! I've tried to walk in a couple times and they've always been booked. Just be sure to call ahead. After reading all the rave reviews I had to try this place. Seems like Agatha was a popular choice, so I made my appointment for a cut and single process color. Agatha was super friendly and listened to my needs before making her recommendation. I put full trust into her and let her do whatever she felt was best for my hair. She colored it with some sort of color that made my hair super shiny and sooo healthy looking, not to mention the perfect brown color. The cut was good as well although the true test will be once it begins to grow out. She also made me a delicious ice coffee drink while I waited for the color to set in. It was such a good experience: I actually got what I want-- no, scratch that, I got something I wanted but didn't know I wanted because my stylist actually listened to me. She didn't try to straighten my hair (or give me a cut that really only works for someone with a bit more energy in the morning). My only issue (which has nothing to do with the haircut): tips are cash only. Which isn't the problem, but it would be good if there was change. Probably a lot of people are going to have $20 bills, since that's usually what ATMs spit out., and given how reasonable the cuts are (and the need maybe for some singles for the shampooist), just please have lots of change. And then, Dvir, you'd be perfect. read more

I've only been to Dvir once but from my experience I think it's safe to say this is a trustworthy place for a hair cut. Margaret gave me a healthy, quick, thorough haircut for $60- That's including a luxurious shampooing, conditioning, scalp massage, blow dry and style. For $60 that is unheard of in NY. It has been almost three weeks since I got my hair cut and my hair is still healthy and vibrant. Margaret is a sweet heart and very talented. My only complaint is when she was blow drying my hair she continually flipped my hair in my eyes. She must not work with longer hair that often?! I wasn't too bothered by it but I'm sure others would get very annoyed. Other than that, I love this jewel in Boerum Hill! read more

after years of fifteen dollar cuts that i hated, i decided to try the more expensive forty dollar ones - divr was my first try i've been going to jaime for almost a year now. definitely cuts hair with the best of them and a very laid back, chill dude. i always feel good about my hair cut and it always grows out really well. reviewing now because i'm noticing it's about time to schedule an appointment for this weekend. also, free espresso! and the wash is unnecessary (i'm not showing up somewhere with dirty hair for someone to cut it), but relaxing. read more

I wanted purple-ish color. Deep on top, light on the bottom. Me and the stylist had a long discussion about it. I said I want to get bright, saturated - unnatural! - color. I brought photos of what I meant.... She said she got it. I wound up brown. Granted, it was a lovely very pretty brown. But, it was not at all what I wanted. I expressed my concern. Her reply was something between "purple is so hard" and "well you can always manic panic it" - neither of these answers is what you want to hear from someone who is about to charge you a lot of money. She was nice enough to say that my ends came out way darker than intended and that if in a couple of weeks they didn't wash out to what I wanted I can come back for a fix. I assumed it would be on the house. I happened to be going on vacation shortly, actually that's why I was getting my hair done. So two weeks passed while I was away and four weeks later I called the salon. It never "washed out" from brown to purple - are you as surprised as I am? The receptionist said their policy on fixes was two weeks and that she would speak with a manager and call me back. Never did. I waited a couple of days and decided to post the review. Yes I can probably call them back and see what we can work out. But honestly if they cared at all about client satisfaction, she really should have made it a must to return my call. Even if the answer was they had to charge. So $130 later I am deciding on fixing it myself or returning to my old salon despite how much further away it is. read more

Everyone at Divr is so welcoming, funny, nice and talented. They make you feel at home, even when the owner cuts your hair! Great neighborhood spot, and even if I move out of Boerum Hill, I'd probably go back for the atmosphere and the cuts, which are very reasonably priced for how well they're done and how good you feel at the end. I've been a customer of Dvir Salon (and the namesake owner) for almost a decade. This alone says something of course. But, straight up, D'vir is one of the kindest, most human people I know. A good haircut is a good haircut (he hasn't messed me up yet!). But sometimes you want more from a haircut, be it a nice coffee or honest conversation or chill music. Dvir has it all. It's been 8 months since I got my hair cut here, but I figured I should write a review. I can't remember who did my cut, though. I wanted to keep my same style of long layers with a side part, nothing fancy, and the stylists did a good job with the cut. She suggested making the top layer a bit shorter which I agreed to but didn't like in retrospect because it was more difficult for me to style on my own, but it did look good. The cut also grew out well, which I think is important. In fact, it looked good for about 6 months, which I think is a good long time. I will definitely go here again if I am in need of a haircut and not able to travel back to my hometown (stylist for 12 years) to get my hair cut. This is the first time I've returned for a second color and cut from the same stylist in I don't even remember how long, so that should be a big vote of confidence for Dvir and stylist Ozzie. I was happy with my 2nd cut and color too, so I figured I should let Yelp know. I was a bit worried about my color at the salon because it looked a bit red, but Ozzie said he thought it was just the lighting in the salon but reassured me that if I wasn't happy with it the next day to just give a call and he would fix it. I really appreciated that. Luckily, I didn't end up needing to take him up on his offer because, as he had suspected, it was just the bright overhead spotlights making my color look a bit off and it looks great everyplace else. read more

I go often for blow-drys, they're fast and no-drama. I get my hair cut here too, and that's always been great. About a year ago I started to get my highlights here, and that had a rocky start, but now they're going fine. (Worth the effort because Dvir is half the price of what I was paying for perfection in Manhattan.) I thought I should note that though the business is marked as not good for kids, both my elementary-school son and middle-school daughter have had great haircuts here. I wouldn't bring a little kid who is still of the age of needing to watch videos, etc during a haircut, but for an older child they do a lovely job. read more

Just moved back to NYC and clearly the first thing I did was hunt for a new hair stylist. Started at a cute place in the W Village close to my office, but it was way out of my price range. Multiple folks recommended Jamie at Dvir, so I came to see him and was fully impressed. The man's got skills. You can have an honest conversation about what you want/need out of your haircut. And he'll be honest with you, too, if you ask his opinion, which I find refreshing. I've been there two times now, and both times have left feeling extra fantastic. The place is flexible if you need a last-minute appointment. And it's a nice place without being too high-falutin (i.e. inspired by W Village) or hipster-er-than-thou (i.e. emulating Williamsburg). Also, Jill gives a great scalp massage, especially because she's not afraid to get a little rough with it. read more

I went to Dvir during my lunch, and was able to get a walk-in appointment right away. The salon was clean and inviting - they offered me tea, and got to me quickly. The woman who washed my hair gave me a relaxing head massage, and then Naho, my hair stylist, did a wonderful job with my hair cut. I've been here before and had great haircuts with Dvir and Ozzy, but do NOT go to Mahley (Mahly? Pronounces like Molly). I went yesterday for a cut, and she cut my hair about two inches shorter than I asked in the front (asked for two inches under my chin, she cut it above my lips). When she asked me what I thought, I told her it was shorter in the front than I wanted, to which she answered, "you can't be precise with scissors". Pretty bizarre response from someone cutting your hair, and charging $70+ for it... Left feeling pretty put-off and dismissed. Needless to say, I won't be going back to her. read more

I went to Dvir because I needed to fix a self-inflicted haircut. I made an appointment for 4:30 but missed it because of traffic. I called at 4:30 and the receptionist was very understanding and polite. She allowed me to change my appointment to 7pm that day. I made it to my 7:00 appointment and got a great haircut. Ok maybe because it was kind of a spontaneous decision but I called on Saturday and they got me in for Sunday (just in time for the first day of classes). I got Dina (a Ukrainian lady with long blonde hair). She seemed a bit out of it and slow, could not understand what I wanted, and even when I realize I can speak my native Russian with her, that did not help. She was not focused and was telling me about her cats and her road trip and only trimmed me a bit. I do not think she is good with short hair at all. I do not think she has a "vision" and sees a whole "picture". She did not take time with me, was not precise enough. Do I need to mention I ended up 'finishing' my bangs in my bathroom by myself? I have been going to Dvir on and off for the past several years. Most experiences have been good to great. However, I had the misfortune of a really bad haircut this past Saturday. I asked for long, side-swept bangs (specifically to avoid having hair in my eyes), long layers, and some face-framing angles all while keep as much length as possible. We decided on taking off no more than 1". What I got were short bangs cut bluntly (completely in my eyes), uneven/bulky layers, and more than 2" off in length. Right after the cut, I didn't notice all of the unevenness, but it became highly evident after two-days. I've never been so bothered from a haircut, have never gone for a re-do in my life, but there was something so bad about this particular cut that I anticipated it not only being annoying to grow out, but punishingly annoying/ugly. I called Dvir today and they were able to fit me in for a re-do. I had the pleasure of working with Carrie, who was super understanding and walked me through what she was doing to correct the style at each step of the process. While there was obviously nothing she could do about the layers and bangs being too short, she certainly evened everything out and created a style I feel happy with. I will be happy to come back to see Carrie, or one of the other more seasoned stylists I've had in the past. Be wary of having them schedule you with just anyone! read more

The ideal salon for me. Naho is an exceptional stylist. Very talented, very smart, concentrates intently when I'm describing what I want. She's got a remarkable knack for understanding what I'm asking for and with enormous attention to detail, delivers exactly the haircut I want, time after time. Different lengths and cuts, different shades, occasional highlights (she's a fabulous colorist as well) and believe me, I'm picky about my hair, which is wavy and tends to misbehave easily when it's not cut well. I've been to a fairly wide spectrum of salons all over Manhattan (I live there) and never developed much loyalty to a stylist. I went to Dvir because a friend (with great hair) recommended Naho. Well worth the trip (takes me a little over an hour) to feel fantastic about my hair, and as a bonus, the atmosphere is lovely -- a mellow, gracious and pretty place to be. The prices are certainly reasonable, even more so for a mega-talented stylist at a higher-end salon. read more

I am so happy to have found this place. The staff are amazing, friendly and talented. After having my hair destroyed by a relaxer that I never consented to, Dina helped me get my hair back on track. I have very curly hair and she blow dries it with patience and care. She never forces me to cut it ( I hadn't had a cut in 6 months- eek!) and when I finally did, she did exactly what I asked. After an amazing facial next door at Tres Belle Spa I had my hair done by Jill. She is really great. I wanted just a trim. She did just that. I wanted to warm up my color, she did just that.
