Expectation versus reality. Ugh. Even my 6 year old asked why I didn't get the haircut/style she wanted me to have once I walked in. Don't get me wrong. Everyone is super nice. Prices are good. Super clean. But what I got wasn't what I wanted/asked for. I even asked if the stylist wanted me to keep the photo out and was told it wasn't necessary. Showed the picture at LEAST 4 times and was told that this is popular cut which put me under the assumption that it was doable. When asked if I liked the cut, I said that I thought it should be shorter. I was shocked when the reply was "Your hairline can only go up so far". Hairline and haircut are two different things. I zipped my lips and just agreed to everything so I could get out of there and get it fixed elsewhere. Now to go somewhere else to get it fixed. I was looking for a new place to get my hair done as my previous stylist wasn't really listening to me anymore. This place jumped out at me as I drove on Dallas Rd and I decided to give them a try. The place is nice, and the staff are friendly. The treatments they give for your hair are really good, but the whole appointment felt rushed. Make sure to consult, shampoo, treat, cut, style, and blow dry in an hour? I wasn't really happy with the cut but felt shooed out the door so I didn't really say anything. read more

Menley did an amazing job on my hair and made some great conversation along the way. Life got in the way and I took a really long time finding a salon closer to home, so my balayage was a little lack luster and my ends were very dry. She made my hair look and feel beautiful again and I've already booked another appt in 5 weeks to continue working on my color. The aesthetic in the salon is very charming. It feels clean and comfortable while still being trendy. You are greeted by friendly faces and offered complimentary beverages while you wait. Now, they are an Aveda salon, so be aware that they really push their products on you. They are definitely great products, but they're expensive. I got a few different products for my hair because they're what Menley used on my hair during the appointment and they made my hair feel so amazing. I can confirm that I got the same results when using them at home as well. read more

BEWARE OF OVERPRICING ***starting quote of almost $400 for basic partial highlights/ base by a new stylist is absurd I had my hair highlighted a few months ago by a newer stylist and she want not able to process my hair to the desired color despite her reassuring me that the color would match the photo I brought in. I left a good review because she was new the color was descent and she apologized for her failed attempt. Three months later I call in to make an appointment with the same stylist and I wanted to get an estimate and the receptionist stated it would start at $300 because the stylist notes indicated that I wanted more highlights (which was not true). Because the newer stylist failed to take responsibility I made an appointment with another new stylist Anastasia. I went in and she quoted me almost $368 to just do highlights and base and I asked her why it would be so much and she stated because she didn't know what the previous hair stylist did so she would have to figure it out. I told her that the previous stylist was at another booth so she could ask her. Then she told me that there were several notes on my account stating that I would need more highlights and I once again stated that the previous stylist messed up but I was kind and didn't complain. Anastasia went on to say that the almost $400 quote was the base charges for her services. I was stunned since she was a new stylist and left. read more

So I finally grew my hair out long enough to donate (Pinkheartfunds) and decided to get my hair done by DV8 salon. I usually get my hair done by a super sweet lady by H-Mart in Carrolton, but always end up looking very very Asian, lol. They assigned Brittany to me and she did an amazing job. :) She listened to my concerns (basically didn't want a bowl cut) and had some great advice. She was very friendly and I will definitely be a return customer! As an added bonus, when you donate your hair, they only charge for the style which is awesome. I got highlights done here. They were chunky and had a very obvious line in my part that went diagonal (they put the fouls on differently than I have ever had them done and I assume that's the cause). I went in the next day for them to correct it and left with it looking the exact same. I had to go to another salon to correct this before a wedding I was in the next week. read more

Got a rocking haircut and deep conditioning treatment today at DV8. My stylist was Kailey and she LISTENS!! I wish more people did that. I showed her about 3 pictures of what I wanted and she nailed it. The salon is on the higher $$$ side so be prepared for that but you do get your money's worth and they take real good care of you. I am new to Texas and decided that first thing I needed to do was find a good hair salon in Grapevine near where I will be living. I googled up best salon in Grapevine, and that is how I came across DV8 and after taking my time to read the reviews I decided to look for an appointment with Erika. From the moment you walk into the salon you are welcomed by a super friendly smile at the front desk, the whole vibe of this place is different from any salon I had been to before (I have lived in Miami and Chicago and I promise you this place feels soooo much friendlier) Erika came out to greet me and she was just as nice and warm as everyone who had left prior reviews for her had mentioned. She was absolutely a pleasure to work with. Asked me questions about the length of the haircut I wanted ( I was not even sure myself) but after patiently looking at the pictures I had saved on my phone, she proceeded to give me the exact haircut I had in mind but could not quite explain. She listened to my concerns ( I run 5 times a week so I do not have the time or patience to blow dry / style my hair) I wanted the length of the layers long enough I could still tie up and not have lose strands. I also wanted long side bangs but again not too short were I could still keep out of my face when running yet short enough to clearly be side bangs. I got all this plus more. After we were done with the cut, I explained to her I want to do color on my next visit but I am so bad at explaining what I had in mind... so she proceeded to show me different hair color of stylists around the establishment which gave me a clear idea of the different options with balayage, ombre etc. I am not the most put together when it comes to this kind of stuff but I truly feel that having a stylist that LISTENS and takes the time to understand what you are trying to do with your hair translates into a very positive hair salon experience. I am looking forward to my hair color session in a few weeks because I know I have found someone who clearly enjoys what she does and that translates into the quality of her work. On a side note about the salon, I love the fact that they are closed on weekends so that employees can spend time with their families...seriously, who does that aside from Chick-fil-a? To me that speaks volumes about the owners and what is important to them. It says they see employees as family and rather keep that family happy over making extra thousands of dollars on the weekends which is when most people would go get their hair done. All hair-styling is an art... but it takes a special kind of artist to shape short hair. Not everyone can do it, and that's ok! We can't all be good at everything! When you find a short-hair artist, you stick with them forever -- but we travel most of the year so I find myself rolling the dice with wherever we happen to be when I need a cut. We were passing through the area, and the reviews for DV8 were outstanding... including word-of-mouth from the campground we were staying at. I called and asked for an appointment with someone good at short hair, and Kacy was able to get me in a couple days later. Anyway, I took a picture of the style I've been kinda getting. I say 'kinda' because nobody can get it right... until Kacy! She perfectly shaped my short hair to match the photo and I couldn't be happier! I wish I could bring her with me on the road! I'd give this salon 3.5/5. My hair looks good but it wasn't what I expected Maybe it was a miscommunication between me and the stylist. I asked for blonde highlights and she gave me a balayage instead. I said I didn't my want my root color, but she kept part of it. I don't like balayage because I don't like having my root color after getting my hair done. I wish she would've just said the word "balayage", so I could've talked about it a bit more. It's hard to tell what the stylist is doing when they start with the bleach. My hair still looks ok, but it's not what I originally intended for. read more

I was looking for a more convenient salon location and decided to try DV8. Having lived in Grapevine I've driven by this salon several times and always thought this place was for young millennials. But decided to try it and I'm so glad I did. I felt right at home and enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere. The pricing is slightly higher than what I'm used to but after my two services I am willing to pay it for the expertise, customer service and convenience. My first appointment was with Jayice. She did a wonderful job cutting my hair. The scalp massage was so relaxing. She was great at conversation and there were no awkward moments. Next I saw Chandler for a color treatment. She did a great job even though I couldn't tell her much about what I usually get. She matched color and offered suggestions like a pro. I was very happy with the results. Between the two ladies I felt ready for a night out and days later am still very happy. I loved the technology the salon uses to stay informed. Text messages with appointment reminders were helpful. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I never felt judged for not being a millennial. Plus I got some great coupons as a thank you for trying them out. DV8 is a full-service hair salon catering to both men and women, located conveniently on the corner of Main and Dallas in historical Grapevine, TX, just a few miles from DFW Airport. There is free street parking in front of the salon and also behind it in a parking lot. I was able to get in without an appointment on a random Thursday afternoon. As soon as we walked through the door, my fiancé and I were greeted by at least two friendly staff members, who quickly guided us to the front desk (which is more in the center of the place rather than the front) and checked in with our full names and phone numbers. The interior is ultra hip, with an odd yet pleasing combination of industrial with country decor. Faux-destructed flooring and exposed piping in the ceiling added to the general ambiance of hip-ness (is that a word?). We were immediately offered drinks, with a selection of anything from coffee or water to wine and beer. My coffee was presented in a cutesy mug that looked like it was straight out of my grandma's kitchen. My stylist, James (a female), was cheery and friendly as could be. I got a full wash, cut and style. The hot towel at the end of the wash was comforting and a very nice touch. My fiancé's stylist, Minley, did an amazing job taming his thick, unruly mop of curly hair. Lauren Crist is the best colorist out there! I've salon hopped all across DFW over past seven years I've lived here because of poor experiences. The first time I met Lauren, I had a horrible dye job from a nearby salon. My hair was falling out because it was over bleached and I looked like a zebra. She did some magic and made it look completely normal again! I've been going to her for the past 2 years now and I always get great compliments on my hair color! I'm so glad I found her! I didn't get my hair cut at this salon. Here's why: I get a men's cut. I'm a girl, but, I get a men's cut. But I'm a girl with short hair. So as a girl, I get charged the woman's price. $77 for a men's cut. Even $45 is a lot but I was willing to pay it. The front desk clerk informed me it was going to be $45. I accepted. I was then called back and informed it was going to be $77. Because I'm a girl. I use to pay $20 plus tip in Los Angeles, and it took twenty minutes. I'd do this every two weeks. Why? I had to find a new salon and for a variety of reasons chose Grapevine. I read reviews and found that DV8 had mostly good ones and seemed to have stylists good with color. I booked online, chose a stylist based on description. I soon received a phone call from someone who asked more questions and we ended up revising my order and stylist. I got Jayce and immediately liked her. She's sweet, attentive, calming and just not over the top. She also prefers to have her clients talk rather than you listen to her stories/drama. You know what that can be like! lol My hair isn't easy as Im now naturally silver for the most part but not ready for full gray so have purple, silver and dark brown in my hair but had become very choppy and too much silver making me look washes out. She blended my purple beautifully, used a translucent color and have to say the Aveda products in general are really good! My purple is beautiful as is my natural silver. A month later I made another appointment and she continued to improve my look with adjustments to my dark low lights and a bit more purple. Jayce listens to you and executes. She has corrected what i wasn't happy about and understands the direction we are going. She may offer some suggestions relevant to what you are wanting but takes your lead. PROS: skilled, color expert, friendly, invested and very client focused, amazing shampoo massage. I appreciated the pre-call on first visit to ensure I got the right service and person. All the staff are very nice and service oriented. Both appointments were on time. CONS: the tab is two-three times what I have paid the last 14 years BUT you get what you pay for. When you are really happy with your hair its worth every penny! Cut elsewhere if you have because you will be REALLY happy you went with Jayce and DV8. read more

GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH ERIKA S. I had an appointment with her a few weeks ago for a haircut (from long to shoulder length), plus a tinted gloss. I showed her a brief video of the haircut I wanted. Erika was very knowledgeable. She explained her reasons ahead of time for doing the haircut slightly different from the video (based on my particular hair type) and also discussed best options for the gloss treatment. I have driven by DV8 a million times and even checked out their website several times but never made an appointment until I was stuck in godawful traffic after a bad day at work and realized what I really needed was a change of hair. Fortunately, they were able to fit me in pretty much right away. I walked in and every ADD impulse I have was in love with all the pretty things they have to look at - if I was a single girl, this is exactly what I would want to cover my whole house in. Cutesy sparkly hipster shiz from Etsy - it was adorable. The super friendly front desk girl hooked me up with a glass of wine and I sat taking in all the embroidered crafty things until my hair stylist Monica came to get me. As a total spaz who doesn't ever get my hair done, I was happy that she was willing to listen to my crazy attempt at explaining what I wanted my head to look like. She did a super fantastic job and I'm heading back in ASAP for some color. And they give $20 off your first visit, meaning I got an awesome haircut for a grand total of $14. I am a very low maintenance gal. I don't change my hair style often and really only cut my hair when I "need" to. After moving to Texas, I realized I had reached that dreaded "need to cut my hair" time. I have curly-to-wavy hair and always fear that my haircut will result in all sorts of awfulness. (I hadn't cut it in over a year and a half). She looked at my Pinterest-inspired pics and did an amazing job. And she even recommended some awesome Aveda product for curly hair that is now, basically a necessity. I just went back this week and had Karie work her magic on me again. This place is so pretty and fun inside! I forget who took my call but she was helpful in communicating to my stylist, Monica, that I needed a dry cut before I got there. Monica did a great job of taking my sheet of really long thick wavy, ramen noodle at times, type of hair and gave it shape but it still feels long and wavy. I'm so impressed after what feels like 3 years of disappointing hair cuts from other places. I've never gone to the same place twice cause I wasn't happy the first time but I will be back to dv8! Only minorly sad part was waiting 20 minutes past my appointment time to be seen and at checkin being asked about a complimentary hand massage (which sounded like an awesome bonus surprise) but there was no follow through on that. read more

Best overall salon experience I've ever had. They also give you $20 off your first visit. When I walked in, the girl at the front desk was very friendly. I had to wait a little while because my hairdresser was still with another customer, but I didn't mind. Most salons I've been in are very gossipy, I really appreciate the atmosphere of DV8. Because of the wait, another girl washed my hair and they gave me a hand massage during my hair wash. It's really the little things that count the most. Normally I hate getting my hair washed, but she made it so enjoyable. I was in the middle of a busy day and she was able to make me forget about that momentarily. Then there's Kacy, such a sweetheart! There's nothing more awkward then when someone is doing your hair and they don't speak to you...not Kacy. We got to know each other and had some laughs. I had a wonderful experience at this salon, my stylist was Abbey and she did a fabulous job! I called and made a same-day appointment, told her that I have a LOT of thick hair that is hard to cut because I don't really know what I want so I always leave unhappy but she took my requests and started working! I love that she stuck with the original plan we laid out, no surprises at the end and kept my length while thinning and cutting her and own way! Highly recommend this salon! I wrote the above paragraph the day after my cut and here I am 6 weeks later still SO much in love that I just remembered I hadn't finished this review and am posting now because I am STILL so extremely happy with my haircut and would highly recommend this salon and especially Abbey! read more

There are two main reasons I made an appointment here: I lived across the street and I received a referral card from a friend for $20 off. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with friendly smiles...I didn't feel intimidated at all and the place looked great inside! It's a small space, but this gave it a nice warm feeling. Plus, it smelled like delish Aveda products. So relaxing! My only real complaint is this: I was 10 minutes early, however I had to wait almost 40 minutes (ugh!) for my stylist to be ready for me. This was frustrating. My consultation was quick, the stylist seemed to know what he was doing and was on the same page as I was. However, he was SLOWWWWW doing his work. I think it's because when he would talk he would stop cutting...and he talked a lot. The entire pace of this place seemed slow. So, if you're not into sitting in a salon for hours just to get a basic layered cut DV8 might not be for you. When I checked out, my bill for a basic cut ended up being $60 something....that's with the $20 discount. Seemed kinda pricey to me. At other Aveda salons you get a cut, scalp massage and other treatments for less than that. Bottom line, it's a salon that wants very badly to be seen as upscale. However, in their current metal barn location it just doesn't come off that way. I noticed they're moving across the street into the retail area of the 925 Main Apartments. This should give them a lot more space and a fancier atmosphere. I'll def have to go check out the new space. read more
