Don't use them. They just won't give you a straight answer or a straight estimate. I told them the problem (clogged drain in the shower/toilet) and it took me five minutes just to get an estimate from them over the phone. As if they'd NEVER heard of my problem before and couldn't quote me an estimate. He said "it depends on the tools they have to use." Even though on their website they say "you save, because you pay by the job, not the hour." Riiiiiiiiight. So, finally he told me there is a $40 service fee...just for coming to check it out and then $69.99 for unclogging the drain. So, two guys came out and immediately one of them told me it wasn't just a shower drain or the toilet but the MAIN DRAIN. So, that would be $179.99. If it was just the shower or just the toilet it would have been $69.99, but now since it's the main drain, it would be almost $200!!!! Even though it was still only one pipe they had to rotor. Seriously?!?! And then, to top it off, they wouldn't even guarantee their work!!!!! And they were there for, maximum, 20 minutes. Don't use them. Find someone else, anyone. You can just tell they are just like used car salesmen when you call. I was in a pinch. Won't happen again. read more

I called these guys for water coming up in a bedroom. They did not pull up the carpet to check if the slab was cracked, and said it was coming from the bathroom. They wanted to do a whole re-pipe for the cold water, quoting $5600. I called another plumbing company and they came out and pulled up the carpet and gave me two options. 1. To abandoned the pipe in place and cap it off for $500 or 2. To do a whole re-pipe for the cold, quoting $3092. See the difference here on price. I told the 2nd plumbing company I would pay cash and they dropped it down to $2600, for a savings of $3000. Needless to say I will never use dutton or recommend them. Had Dutton out to replace a 40g water heater that rusted out at the bottom of the tank. The plumber went to his price book and came back with a bid of over $1,500.00 dollars for a standard replacement. I explained that $1,500.00 was a horribly inflated price to which he asked how much I would be willing to pay. That was enough for me and I asked him to leave. If they are not giving me their best price from the get go, they are trying to rip me off. I would never have them back to my house again. I should have known better from the "Hiring plumbers" sign that is permanently painted on their trucks. If your staff is constantly turning over, you are doing something wrong. read more

I was very pleased with the work done at my house by Dutton Plumbing. Their service person was Danny D. with help from an apprentice. I called Dutton Plumbing to replace a garbage disposal, a bathroom sink trap, and an outdoor faucet. At my house I started talking with Dan about about my hard water situation here in Ventura and my existing salt-based water softener that I wasn't so happy with. Dutton proposed an upgrade including a high-end house water filter based on a multi-stage charcoal system. My hot water heater was ten years old so at my request Dutton included a new American-made water heater as well. The entire upgrade including a discount was expensive, but I recognized that I was dealing with a top-quality plumbing company who was proposing top-quality components. Dutton's field folks, Dan and his apprentice, spent two days at my house with labor to install several new copper pipes and other parts so that the house filter water would reach not only the interior of the house but also the extensive outside irrigation system in both the front and the back yards, like I wanted. The work required cutting open parts of the garage sheet rock wall for the pipes. The set up of the charcoal filter itself took very little time compared to the prep work they did. They never tried to increase the price for the extra work that was needed for the plumbing part of the installation which was beyond what I think they had expected. The craftsmanship of the work was impeccable; every little detail was attended to expertly with Dan's and his apprentice's abilities and work ethic. That kind of expertise and execution is very rare among plumbing contractors these days where I think many customers have forgotten what it's like to deal with real American quality in both parts and service. It costs more than the average big-box type of service but there really is no comparison. read more

It's 3:30 in the afternoon and Dutton just called to tell me their plumbers are all busy on other jobs, which means the service that was scheduled for 10:00 this morning will have to be rescheduled. The woman I spoke with offered me a "guaranteed appointment" tomorrow -- which of course led me to ask if I could just skip to a guaranteed appointment every time. She seemed downright indignant in telling me it doesn't work that way. I tried to tell her that yes it does -- it works that way with literally every other plumber, and it used to work that way with Dutton too. This is not the first time this has happened, despite the "lifetime service contract" I bought from Dutton several years ago, and I feel like a fool for having given Dutton another try. Clearly other customers are more important than I am. If you try to use Dutton, there will be other customers more important than you. If you're looking for service that makes you feel like your business is considered second-class, then Dutton is the plumber you should call. If you actually want your plumbing fixed, I would look elsewhere. read more

Considering quote at this time. Quote is reasonable. Technician knowledgeable and professional. I look forward to doing business with them. Well, had the work done. David Walker came over and installed a servicing manifold for my tankless water heater and also installed a pressure relief valve. The relief valve needed a drain and since the heater is in the middle of the house, there was no good way to run it outside without ripping into walls to run the pipe outside. He had the brilliant idea of tapping into the standpipe of the toilet on the other side of the wall. He spent most of the day doing very detailed work, cut the wall open, installed the drainpipe, and closed it back up. Very professional job. Their dispatch service kept in touch and let me know when he was going to show up. I would highly recommend Dave and his team if you need a plumber. read more

PREDATORY PRACTICES! These people are total rip-off artists. I was on vacation and my 76 year old mother came by to check on my house. She found a small pool of water in the backyard. Some guy named Rich came out and scammed her for $331 to cap off a broken pvc pipe. Really??? Not only is that outrageous, but I now have two sprinklers that are not connected to the water source anymore. He didn't even bother to test his work! I just looked at the invoice and it isn't even itemized. There is an additional charge for the "Bronze Senior Family Plan." There is no price listed. When I asked my mom why she did this she just said that he told her if she didn't that it was going to cost her more to fix the pipe. One last thing. My mother called on July, 4th 2015. Rich came out on July 6, 2015. Why is the invoice dated 7/4/15? You should be ashamed of yourself Rich. read more

He did a walk through and checked out other items around the house to ensure there weren't other issues. After some suggestions, he gave a quote way out of our budget for now. So we focused on the leak. It started out as a small, easy, not overly expensive fix, but quickly compounded into several other issues, which was not fault of his. Though the final,price was far more than we wanted to shell out, we needed the problem fix. Throughout the process and all the twists and turns, Brian S. was professional, patient and friendly. Called these guys again. Clean and organized as always. Few days wait but it was weekend no problem The guy showed up as usual. Started snaking the clean out, However half way he realities he is caught because he had it running in reverse. He gets caught in the roots.... An hour later after damaging my cleaning he gets the snake out and tells me the pipes must be broken. The snake got caught because of broken pipes... ok I trusted what he said and he tells me we need a camera. For $300 they looked at the drains to determine it was only roots.... his supervisor now is here. They suggest a complete sewer liner for $12k and maybe more work at street connection for another $7k .. I called another (Rooterman) company they came and clean it out did $49. Moral of the story never trust what they tell. Always get second opinion and verify. Lots of BS out there..... read more

I called Dutton for a simple drain cleaning service that they supposedly specialize in I was advised that I would be able to be scheduled same day only to be strung out all day by their scheduling team. I waited all day and then was advised they couldn't accommodate my service but would schedule me for first appointment the following day. I was then contacted again and again advised that a scheduled would contact me. I again waited for a few more hours and contacted them for an update. They did get my drain cleared for $73, but it was mainly a way to give them an opportunity to sell more services. They also don't tell you that the guarantee doesn't apply if roots are causing the stopage. Their pricing for a clean out was more than double other reputable plumbers in thousand oaks. First time using Dutton Plumbing. I wanted to start out by saying both the customer service reps I talked to on the phone (David and Joe) were very professional, but I was also extremely impressed with the professionalism and customer service skills of the plumber Cole, who came out to give me an estimate and do some work. I'm in the trades myself, but dont like to mess with plumbing. Bought a new house and have been having a couple of problems plumbing wise, to include a drainage leak, possible plumbing system update, and wanted my gas fire pit to be upgraded. Cole was super nice dude, quality of work was good, and gave a reasonable quote for work to be done. However, through no fault whatsoever of his own, Cole was not able to fix or mitigate one of my plumbing problems. The reason I am giving Dutton 4 stars out of 5, is because I still had to pay the same amount for the second problem, even though it was not resolved. Cole was able to give me a discount on his end and did, but he said management would have to get involved to lower the price more. I contacted Dutton and the reps said they'd look into it, but not sure yet if I will still have to pay the same amount as quoted, which was quite a bit. Again, Cole the plumber is highly recommended, but I think Dutton may be a little on the expensive side compared to other plumbers I've used. Quality of service by Dutton is a lot more professional than others though. read more

Last year, I bought a Water Heater from Dutton Plumbing. It's been terrific, and the annual maintenance date came up. Dutton pro-actively reached out to me to service the water heater for free. While here, Paul checked all other plumbing-- like the kitchen sinks and bathrooms. There was never any upselling or trying to to find ways to get more money from me. In fact, my plumbing was great. No recommendations for repairs. It was comforting to have a professional taking care of the evaluation. An adept who gave me all the information straight and true. I found Paul to be smart, efficient, and engaging. On top of a positive interaction, here's other important thresholds that Dutton met. #1: Paul arrived on time. #2: Dutton called to confirm the appointment, then called again after Paul left to check in. #3: Their equipment -the water heater installed last year-- has been solid, reliable, and energy efficient. Dutton Plumbing ticks all the boxes for what I'm looking for in a plumber/company. I have no idea how other Yelpers could give them a one star. Beware of Dutton's and other high-overhead home service companies with several trucks and employees. They try to sell you major repairs when you request a simple service. Dutton sent a repairman to my home to root out a short clogged kitchen drain for $76. He suggested that I replace my kitchen pipes because they were old. He insisted that I have his water jet service to clean out my sewer pipes with costs from $930 to $3000. He said the rooter would not solve my problem. I insisted that he try his small rooter machine which he used for his camera, and it worked. Later that day I found that my water heater had been turned off. read more

I paid $1800 to have my water heater replaced, and they did not even finish the job! They told me the pipes behind the water heater also needed replacement, and pressured me to pay them another $7000. SENIORS DO NOT CALL DUTTON PLUMBING. I asked them to leave my home. Fortunately I was able to find an honest plumber with integrity. The second plumber finished the water heater installation AND replaced the pipes behind the water heater. ALL FOR $150. I am in the process of reporting DUTTON PLUMBING to the California Attorney General and the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). The authorities need to investigate this company. read more

Dutton came to fix the shower/tub combo in my son's bathroom. The gentleman who came was very nice but didn't have the necessary part on the truck despite the company saying they carried all parts. That was the first problem. Then he told me what part to get and how to install it. He left saying he'd come back and install it if we couldn't. For months my son had to use a different shower because we couldn't install it. I called Dutton and explained Dan had offered to come back and asked that he do so. I was told the manager would be notified and that Dan would likely come that very day. That was three days ago. No call. No message. I'm very upset. read more

First, I called and got a very pleasant and efficient dispatcher. Second, I received a call from the dispatcher just minutes after she got my information confirming a technician is available today. And just a short time after I received a text with a photo that the tech would be out within the next 45 minutes. He actually arrived in less than an hour after I initially called. Third, when the technician showed up, he was pleasant and efficient. So was his assistant. I printed out a leak I had discovered in a hose splitter. But he still pressure tested my system to verify no further leaks. Fourth, the entire cost for this visit was a very nominal visit fee. And I was able to pay it on site, avoiding a future bill, payment, etc. the entire process was less than two hours These two gentlemen were most courteous and efficient. Called them again and said tech is delayed and will be coming after lunch. nobody came. Called them again before close of normal business hours to follow up and told me, sorry ... we do not have technicians that can service your drain today and have to reschedule again for tomorrow. There estimate for the installation of a waterline from the cold waterline, in the kitchen, to the ice maker in the refrigerator was unreasonable. I eventually had a reputable plumber come out and provided the work for $187. This plumber ran the waterline under the house, which was less than eight feet. great service. I called on a Saturday at 1:00 pm with a major issue. I had just finished a remodel in my kitchen due to water damage. We replaced the flooring, drywall and cabinets in the kitchen due to water damage. When we reinstalled the cabinets and turned the water back on, we saw water coming from the newly installed drywall. We opened up the wall and noticed that one of the older pipes was rusted out....should have checked that BEFORE everything was closed up buy hey.....lesson learned. Within two hours Larry from Dutton showed up. Very professional! Put shoe covers on his shoes before coming in the house....SHOE COVERS! Right?! Larry was very polite and courteous. When work started Larry put down mats and containers to minimize wasted. When finished he vacuumed up and left no mess. In terms of pricing....I will say this. You pay for service and response, and professional technicians. From initial call to Larry showing up at our door was less than two hours. For the severity of this issue....not a common drain clog or leaking gasket....I am very happy. Wall opened, rusted pipe removed, travel time to source pipe (on a Saturday) and have everything up an running within a few hours. Consider time, travel, materials....Saturday visit. Very satisfied. It is very hard to find someone that you feel that you can trust and that they will not take advantage of you. Dutton is now added to my speed dial for future issues.
