We have had Dutton out a few times over the years but this past week was the biggest job they've done for us to date. Our front yard clay pipe lateral sewage line was clogged and ultimately irreparably compromised. The front flower bed cleanout as well as a hole adjacent to the front sidewalk needed to be excavated and a new single piece of 4 inch line put in. As they were already doing this, we decided to have them completely repipe all of our home's underground and above surface sewage lines including, in some cases, 60+ year old cast iron. The various members of the crews including Kenneth, Sr., Felix, Juan Pablo, Ricardo, Gabriel, Carlos and Caleb were extremely professional and willing at every turn to answer our questions and explain the steps they were undertaking. Was this inexpensive? No. But the confidence I have in the work they performed (including having to replace cement where they had to uncover a cast iron pipe that had a half-dollar sized hole already broken through it) is worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend Dutton Plumbing to anyone I know who is facing a repair issue of this or any magnitude. read more

We have used Dutton regularly over the years for various repairs and maintenance matters. We have never been disappointed. Our latest call to them was for a regular inspection as part of a family plan we have with Dutton. Ernie was the tech who came out. What a great guy! He was very friendly, professional, and well kept (sharp looking and clean uniform). During his inspection, he found a couple of things that needed addressing. He explained each issue in great detail and did so in layman's terms so I understood what he was talking about. As he explained each issue he also showed me the things that needed repair so I could see it for myself. Ernie then showed me the price points of three options to choose from should I decide to address any of the issues he found. Between his excellent explanation and him showing me what needed to be fixed, it made my choice very easy. We did opt to fix two of the three things. One wasn't a pressing matter. I've been a customer for many years and last week needed their services yet again. I was quickly scheduled an appointment for the next day. After a few calls the day of the appointment it was clear service would be delayed a day. I called back to share my frustration and received a call back from the manager Andrew (hey that's my son's name too). After expressing my concern he offered a reasonable solution and his technician arrived on time the following morning, was polite and efficient as can be and cleared my shower drain quickly. They came to my home on Thursday , started out telling me I need something that would cost over $13,000.00, negotiations as my husband is a purple heart Veteran wounded in Combat gave discount all kinds of discount to they got the job down to $10,000.00 First let me warn you they send a contract to be signed that changes momentarily after they send it, and then delete it to delete all evidence of trying to cheat people. However I downloaded this and saved the evidence. This is the email I sent to Dutton Plumbing on Friday morning. I have spoken to Tony this morning, and I  had started reading all the complaints on yelp, and the better business Bureau.  He asked me to advise you. All this concerned me so very much especially the contract states that you will start at the Property line out and replace.  Furthermore for sure I do not like a contract that can change momentarily on line. I was just so concerned last night at 8.00 pm I had a plumbing contractor come with a camera. There was no water lying in this sewer line at all.  There is broken sewer pipe on my lawn with tree roots around it. This sewer pipe needs to be replaced there was never any mention to me of this broken sewer line on my property, and obviously if you started at the sewer line out as the contract states this would simply not resolve my issue at all. The  broken sewer line on my property needs replacement. Tree root removal with Hydro Jetting perhaps. So therefore I have decided against proceeding with your recommended treatment at this time. Bottom line job completed Tree roots removed broken pipe that was causing the problem all replaced. I decided to Hydro jet the sewer as well, probably not even needed. Bottom line job completed all is well all for he wanted $1,800.00, I lust paid them $2,000.00. as I was jus so happy to have an honest Company. Job done be the owner of the Company. The job Dutton recommended would NOT HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM AT ALL. I hope this helps other people who would be victimized by these people. So my garbage disposal died and they came out to fix it, wasn't fixable so had to replace it. They also noticed my water pressure was too high and replaced the part that controlled that (I forget what it was called). They charged me $2000! Yikes! As a fool I paid it, not getting a second estimate. Then later my toilet was running and needed the flapper replaced, they said they couldn't get the part , so I'd need to go get my own toilet and they'd install it for $685. They also tried to get me to buy a more expensive toilet. I finally wised up and got a second estimate. I paid $685 to second repair place and they picked up the toilet and installed it for the same price. Dutton will rob you blind! Also they kept looking to sell me more things, saying my water is too hard and I need a water softener which runs between $2000-20000! Talk about upselling! Don't trust Dutton! read more

Once again, Dutton makes it happen, as scheduled and as quoted... Michael Tipton made sure I was all set before he left. He worked hard to make sure the roots and debris, blocking the landscape drains, were all removed, and the drainage system was clean and ready for these latest storms we had. This is twice that Dutton has come out and provided great service, with wonderful employees. who care about the reputation of the company they work for. I know it seems like I'm related to the owner, but it's just about sharing the good experiences, and gIving other people the truth that I seek when need help from sites like this. We called at 8 am to make an appointment for 4. We were NOT told that we were actually making an appointment for a phone call to see if someone was available at 4. We were also not told that this could keep happening day after day and might actually never get an appointment for someone to help. So at 3:45 I was called to say that they would need to reschedule. And was told that my rescheduled appointment could keep being rescheduled forever, without ever actually getting help. I would never use this company for any service. And I will make sure I make everyone I know aware not to use this company. Edit 4/17 I received an almost immediate call with a request to make the situation right. I was promised a morning appointment and the technician showed exactly as promised. Even better, as a show of good customer service, the unclogging of my sink was free! If I had to judge on the efforts to make a bad situation right, I give them 5 stars. read more

As far as price goes I cannot understate how unreasonable and how much Dutton (or this specific technician) took advantage of my unfortunate situation. I needed my water heater immediately removed because of a leak in it and I was charged an absurd amount of money for just a removal. I feel the technician undoubtedly concluded he could charge whatever absurd amount he wanted to because of my predicament, unfortunately at that point I had no choice. I don't know if this sort of behavior is company-wide but I wouldn't leave it to chance, especially if it involves a water heater. read more

He was a very nice guy and explained everything to me, including what tool he would be using and why, before clearing my clogged drain. The price to clear one outside line? $1,000!!! And then he had the gall to tell me I even needed more work done on that line! Next time I will wait an extra day or two until my regular plumber is available! read more

I had two separate experiences with Dutton. First one was when my toilet wouldn't flush; called Dutton and he unclogged the toilet line as well as the bathtub. Two separate drains, two separate fees. That was fine: the serviceman was friendly, personable, and clean. Great experience! He recommended I get a camera run down at a later time to check out the main line A few days later he came with his manager to do the camera inspection of the sewer line. They ran the camera down and showed me where he said there were holes and leaks and it was seeping out. I asked for a copy of video of the inspection and he said they can't do that. Strike 1. So he said I needed to either replace the main line that ran under the house or cap it and install a new one. He quoted me $25,000 and asked if they should get started right then. $25,000!!! Like I'm going to drop that on the spot. I'd rather park an RV on the side of my house and use the sewer line on that side of the house instead. Strike 2. I decided to hold off and got a second opinion. Charlie's plumbing service did the same camera inspection and found no holes in the line - just rust. They also made me a copy of the video that Dutton said couldn't be done. Strike 3. I asked how much he would roughly charge for what Dutton recommended - and he said probably no more than $9000. Strike 4. 5. And 6. Bottom line: trust them to unclog your toilet but get a second opinion on everything else. Shady practice from Dutton. 5 stars for the first visit - 1 star for the scam they tried to pull about replacing the sewer line. But the one star experience was too powerful so I had to go 1 star. Customer service kept me well informed about availability and the technician who was coming to repair the system around our our home. Leo P. was first introduced through a picture email with an ETA. When he arrived on time, he was very polite and bid the job appropriately. When he finished he also provided additional information that may help us in the future. Heard the commercial for the $69 drain clearing and easily set up a request for an appointment and they came out within 2 hours. The expectations of the "special" were very straightforward. Jimmy was very professional and explained our situation very clearly. He's a wonderful technician! I can see how easily services can be recommended and up sold but fortunately for us our situation was very straight forward. I feel like if we had a more serious issue I would call our regular plumber or specifically ask for Jimmy. read more

Beware!! Dutton would not even give me a ballpark figure for replacing my water heater. He said you pay 39.00 to come out and then apply towards the labor. This guy told me it would be $3400.00 and he had the water heater right on his truck! How did he know which one I wanted? Then, gave a senior discount! Really? 3400?? Unbelievable! They might be great plumbers, if you can ever get them to keep their appointments. We needed one to come out on last Tuesday and I asked for the early morning, and I was told that it shouldn't be a problem and she would put me in for a morning slot. Around 12:30, after no one showed up or even called, I called and was "assured" that I was still on the list and they would be out as soon as possible. Finally at 4:45 I got a call and was told that they would not be out that day. I took a day off of work to be their for this appointment, so not only did I not get the work done, but I lost a days pay. I called Mike Wooley instead and he was out in 2 days and got everything fixed great. So moral of the story, call someone that can be counted on to keep their word!!!!! read more

Well, calling a plumber is (unfortunately) a necessity at times. We called Dutton because we had a coupon. We have used them on 2 prior occasions with good results at a reasonable cost. But there's just more to the transaction than service and cost. Attitude. Their job is not a pleasant one. This time, our bathroom toilet was backing up. The previous year we installed a clean out for that sewer line, but since our house was built in 56, (yes, it's an oldy), we had already been aware our sewer drain pipe was compromised by earth shifting and tree roots. Saw the camera video in action. So, we were ready when Dutton told us the price to run a new sewer line. It's quite a project. At first I said, 'no way' and came back at them with a lower price i would be more comfortable with. Then I asked for 12 months (no interest) financing. Hey - Don't be afraid to ask for a lower price. It's your money! (As we had already had a company come out that wanted alot more last year, I think we got a good deal). So we agreed. And then, out of the blue, Dutton signed us up for their family plan at no cost, which provides a bunch of freebie services. But that was only the frosting. The real cake is in their performance and attitude of their people. From when I first opened the door, these guys showed up with smiles, and (masks and gloves and booties-to protect the floor). Since pricing was not an issue, and already agreed upon, I was very impressed with the plumbers and techs (about 5 in all) as well as their smiley positive attitudes. They were always polite, not condescending, professional, and always offering detail explanations for the work planned. Any questions were met with a helpful and honest answer from the digging the holes for the sewer line, to the city inspection (required). I am a contractor myself - (not a plumber, and no, I don't know anyone at Dutton Plumbing). But I do know when a company is well run, and that's because of the character and knowledge of the people they employ. I was impressed. A new sewer line is a major project. They had 4 techs, and their quality control supervisor out there on the project checking off his list. You don't have to guess that nobody likes having to call a plumber. But, if I do again in the future, it will be these guys at Dutton. Fair price for over the top service and attitude. Would definitely recommend! read more

Great communication received a phone call to verify I was still needing a plumber, then a call to let me know what time Ken Jr was going to be at my house. Ken Jr was very friendly, professional and right time, within minutes he had my sink drain flowing again! So my house was built in the stone ages and was poorly built to say the least. One of the issues is my bathrooms are back to back and all the pipes are pretty much shared. So you can imagine the nightmare when there's pipes backed up... That said, my kid likes large using in large amounts, my non flushable wipes as toilet paper. ‍ This caused not only my toilet but his toilet as well as his shower and my bath tub to completely back up... yup Poop water everywhere. Unfortunately it was a Sunday so we had to figure out an alternative until we could get a plumber out. I called at 7:30 and was able to get a plumber out at 9. Javier was not able to successfully remove the blockage on the first attempt. He called for his senior tech to assist and try and do the plumbing from the roof. Needles to say, it was sounding like it was going to be super expensive if they couldn't get it cleared. Javier came back a little bit before the other tech would arrive and gave it another go. Successfully fixing both toilets and both bath tub drains! $79 was an awesome price for the courteous and professional service we received. Definitely a breath of fresh air in comparison to the plumbers and contractors I've used in the past. read more

I requested a plumber for outside drain repair on Monday. The receptionist promised a person would be here Tuesday at 11 am. I received the customary phone call the day of at 8:15am but said they could be a little later than 11 am. They called again and said maybe they could find and get a technician here by 2-4 pm. I had to cancel due to Lori or appointment and rescheduled for 2 pm on Wednesday. No 8:15 am call, so called at 1:55 pm only to be told they had to find a technician and could be by 5 pm and told them it HAD to be by 5PM due to a class I have at 7 PM. Well it's 5:22PM and no call or technician. They have wasted two days and not even a call. I don't live in the boon docks and I am in their supposed area for service. read more

I would never use this plumber again. I was left with one clog fixed and charged for two. A stain was left in my kitchen sink where the plumber mixed chemicals to show me the chlorine levels in the water. The plumber was at my house for 4 1/2 hours and could not find the clean out. They have refused to get back to me after saying they would refund me for the overcharge. I hired Thousand Oaks plumbing and they found the clean out in two minutes and took great care of me. I will always use them from now on. I hope someone reads this before hiring Dutton so they don't have to go through what I have gone through. read more

Needed a kitchen sink drain unclogged. Ask for Brian S.- he was clean, fast, courteous, professional. He spotted a small piping problem under the sink, and repaired that as well, for a very reasonable price. Then enters the salesman. Another rep came in with a inspection camera, and points out- truthfully- that my pipes are filled with gunk that will eventually cause more clogging. He recommends using a whole house hydrojet procedure for only (gulp) $1700. While he's talking, I'm Googling- and find at least 3 offerings of the same procedure for under $500. So- Dutton, and especially Brian, are great for standard problems. DO NOT buy in to the extras his "closer" will offer! read more

I got a quote for $13,000 to go ahead and fix a problem on draining in somewhere else I got $6000 and they actually did more than what this group was going to do. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with a plumbing company. I called them last Monday and they said they'd be out that day. Then they called and said they needed to bump us to Friday. On Friday they called and said they needed to bump us to today/Monday. I just got yet another call to bump us again and I told them to just forget it -I've just called another plumber! Will tell everyone I know not to use them. UPDATE: got a call from the general manager who was very nice and apologetic about how we've been jerked around for a week. My kitchen sink got clogged. Reached out to a couple of plumbers in the area. Went with Dutton because they made it so simple and were able to give me the exact price right away. Dutton plumbing was able to schedule an appointment at my convenience. They called to confirm the appointment the day before.They sent an email with a photo of the technician and his name so I knew who would be coming into my home. The day of the appointment they sent a text message advising that the tech was on his way and again who that tech would be. Jamie M was friendly, professional, and very efficient. He quickly resolved the issue and gave us useful advise to prevent it from continuing to be an issue. If I need plumbing services again Dutton Plumbing will be my first call. read more

Called for a repair of 2 leaky faucets. Cartridge style Moen. All work done above the sinks. Parts cost less than $80. Plummer showed up found additional work to be done in excess of $2000. I am waiting to hear from his supervisors as to why I dismissed him from the job. This is not a good business model to follow in 2017. The plumbers working for Dutton can start their own business and undercut Dutton and still make a fair profit. read more

Of the potential plumbing companies that I could've contacted for an unknown water leak at my Mom's house, I was very happy that I selected Dutton in Simi Valley and very fortunate to have had Juan Rendon as our primary POC and technician. I believe that we also had a person by the name of Paul B. & Carlos P. It's very rare nowadays to receive the type of quality customer service that we received. Juan was very responsive, always on time, always professional and was sincere and up front with everything that was stated and all the work that was performed. They were also able to pinpoint what may have likely been overgrown street tree roots that could've caused the leak.
