I downloaded the app and ordered ahead to save some time, only to learn they actually make your order when you arrive. I can see the pros and cons there, but it is something to keep in mind if you are in a hurry. When I got there, I hopped in the drive thru line. In hindsight, I probably should have gone inside since I was third in line and it took about 6 to 7 minutes. The person at the speaker was very soft spoken, and between that and some lawn care happening nearby, I honestly could not hear much. I assumed I was told to pull forward and just went with it. The part that really stood out to me, though, was the experience at the window. I pulled up and waited for about a minute with no acknowledgment at all. No eye contact, no "we will be right with you," not even a quick glance my way. I could see the team moving around inside, so I know they were busy, but it felt a little awkward just sitting there wondering if I was in the right place. When someone finally came over, they handed me my drink without saying a single word or making eye contact. No hello, no thank you, nothing. Then came the silent straw interaction where they just held one up and gestured at me. I figured it out, but it definitely caught me off guard. My food came out the same way, just handed over with zero communication. What made it more noticeable was that it was not just one person. All three employees I could see looked frustrated or upset, and there was just a really tense, unhappy energy behind the counter. I completely understand bad days, I have worked in the service industry for 20 years, but as a customer it felt very unwelcoming, especially for a first visit. As for the food and drink, they were just okay. I had the French toast sandwich, which was a bit underwhelming, and the Iced Lavender Berry Matcha did not quite have the punch I was hoping for. All in all, it was not a terrible experience, just not one that would bring me back. If I am going to spend that kind of money on a treat, I do want to feel at least a little welcomed while doing it. That said, I appreciated the first time reward on the drink. It definitely helped soften the experience a bit!

They make their own syrups so they have many wonderful different flavor combos. I have been known to get my coffee and then walk across the parking lot to one of the benches in front of the pond, just a serene experience watching the ducks on pleasant mornings. Prices are standard for similar fare elsewhere but the value is in the friendly service and welcoming space. The sandwich, though, was really good. Everything was cooked perfectly: velvety runny egg, crunchy bacon, melted gouda (although I couldn't taste it much), and an earthy basil mayo. All the flavors worked really well together, and it was a solid-sized sandwich too. My biggest issue was the price. I spent over $20 here, and honestly I feel like I could make a sandwich and coffee similar to this at home for cheaper and probably better.

I met the young woman who owns the shop along with her mom. She is really delightful and helpful. I bought a few bags of tea to try along with a gift item from a local artisan/vendor. The owners are very supportive of local artisans and businesses which is a big plus for me! They put a nice selection of their creations in their tea shop! I also got a hot tea to go. It was steeped well. Not bitter so they know their serving size, proper water temp, and steep times based on the type of tea leaf or herb. It's an art! The selection of tea is very good. Several different kinds. Black, green, white, roobois (red leaf that's naturally decaffeinated), mate (a couple of interesting ones) , and herbal (not actually tea but everyone thinks it is and it's great. Also no caffeine). I wish they carried some Pu-Erh tea but it's a strong tea and not something just anyone is going to be looking for so it's understandable. A girl can still hope! It's a really nicely decorated and clean place. Has a great vibe and I look forward to going back again. On my way out, the owner said I qualified with my purchase to get a free handmade crochet tea cozy! I got one with a bright sun wearing sun glasses! So darling. This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. Maps... home of the best PSL ever?…read more I was in the area shopping with a friend and was in desperate need of caffeine. I just happened to stumble upon Maps and I couldn't be happier I did. I chose one of their seasonal menu items, a pumpkin spice latte, and was blown away by how good it was. The pumpkin flavor was nailed perfectly with the coffee. Service was incredible (for a fun surprise, enroll in the rewards program!), and the shop vibes are very relaxed. I'm looking forward to many future visits!
