First question: how hungry are you? Second question: do you want to eat some of the best gyro meat (fresh cut then crisped in a fry pan) you've ever had or flavorful shawarma chicken? If you've got an average hunger then you can't lose with the chicken or gyro meat gyro or sandwich (burrito). Ask for custom toppings, so colorful and delicious as well as always fresh. I've never seen a single piece of brown or wilted lettuce in all my visits. Meals include a bottle of water or can of soda. If you're really hungry then have the chicken shawarma or gyro platter. The rice on the platters is delicious. Good luck eating the entire platter. It's easily two meals! At lunch there's almost always a line but don't give up because it moves fast, it's much less busy at dinner time. UPDATE - don't freak out people but this restaurant is under new ownership. I've eaten there several times since the purchase and other than a few relatively minor changes I'm confident you'll have a five-star experience. This place is incredible. It's a family run business that you can really tell they have put their heart and soul in. This has to be one of the best gyros I've ever tasted. The meat is cut very thin and cooked/seasoned perfectly. Many other gyros I've had are dry or thicker cut, but this is definitely not the case. It's seriously cooked to perfection. The ingredients are all very fresh and they are happy to customize any order you have. The portions are very large, so you definitely get your money's worth. In addition to my gyro, I purchased their home made baklava. It was very flaky and a great rich, sweet, nutty flavor. I would highly recommend it for the few extra dollars. One thing to note is they have a fridge with pop and canned drinks. It's ok if they don't have a fountain, but it would be nice if they had a little more variety of drinks. So happy I found this gem near our neighborhood. One of the best Gyros I've had. It's a small place in a Blue Ash strip mall. The Gyro was huge! You really get a generous portion for the price and I love the sauce. Nice variety on the menu. It's a no frills place, for example they have cans of pop instead of soda fountain. The gentleman taking orders and preparing the food to order is always very friendly. The dinning area is small so I bet it gets packed during lunch rush. I usually go in the evening. This is a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant. The food is wonderful and not a lot more expensive than Chipotle with a much better taste. The setup is similar, allowing you to choose your meat and sides. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and if you start to become a regular they remember you and spark up conversation while you wait for your food. The price has gone up a bit, but so has the quality as well as quantity of food you get. And if you have preferences on how you like your meal, all you have to do is ask and they will accommodate. Everyone I have brought here has fallen in love with the place. The setting is cozy and the music is nice and not overly intrusive. Durum Grill has completely replaced Chipotle and Qdoba for me. I don't understand why this place has such good reviews. I'm giving it 3 stars instead of two because they actually offer vegetables which is unusual. Unfortunately the steamed veggies were cooked to mush, drizzled with heaps of oil, and served with a balled up piece of plastic wrap. I was excited for chicken shawarma but it was majorly bland and cold. The greek salad was all iceberg lettuce. blah, just blah. Had one night in Cincinnati to eat some good shawarma and it was a let down. My husband did actually really like his falafel so if you're a vegetarian maybe this is a good spot for you. I'm also not a fan that the take-out boxes were Styrofoam and not eco-friendly. read more

Great gyros for take out or a fast lunch! We came in here for lunch on the weekend and were the only people in the restaurant, but a couple people came in later to get food to go. I got the vegetable (aka falafel) gyro, my husband got the gyro meat gyro, and we got a side of hummus. The portions were VERY generous, we had to take home leftovers. The gyro meat was delicious, well-seasoned, and not greasy like other gyros we've had in Cincinnati. The falafel was ok, but not as good as the gyro. The vegetables on top were fresh, but the tatziki could be more flavorful. The hummus was very creamy and very good, and a big portion...You could split that between a family of 4 if you had extra pita. Service was fast. We spent $20 for our whole meal, so the prices were good. Overall, a good experience, and I would come back! read more

I ordered a gyro. It was huge but I didn't care for the meat texture. They grill it on a flat top and the meat is a greasy crunchy texture, the meat would have been excellent if they didn't grill the crap out of it. The rice I got was mediocre lacked flavor. The taziki sauce was great! But I don't think I will be back for anymore gyros. I wanted to like this place badly. Also, one of the cooks was outside smoking and I didn't see him come in and wash his hands till like 10 minutes later. I thought if he touches my food I'm out of here. At some point, this little oasis in the "strip mall and office park desert" that is northern Blue Ash must have changed hands, mostly to good effect. They've kept the minimalist vibe of the original menu, offering a choice of lamb, chicken, or falafel served on a gyro, shawarma, or platter, and played down the "custom assembly line" Chipotle-like theme without sacrificing the freshness of the ingredients that has been one of the place's most appealing points. The service is more efficient and the portions are even larger, which believe me, was NOT a shortcoming before. (I wasn't able to finish my platter today but still spent the afternoon in the sort of semiconscious stupor that one might otherwise associate with listening to Pink Floyd albums while staring at a lava lamp.) Some subtle changes in the presentation as well, including a crispness and pronounced saltiness to the gyro meat -- not bad, but unexpected -- that prompted numerous trips to the water cooler and that probably saved me from passing out altogether in a snoring heap at my desk. This place was highly recommended to me, so I made the journey to a place where no unmarried man has gone before: Suburbia. It was well worth the journey. My go-to for casual Mediterranean has always been Chicago Gyros, but that Gyro King has been dethroned. Maaake waaaay for Prinnnncee Ali* and Durum Grill. I went at an odd hour (330pm on a Saturday), but I've heard that Durum has a line out the door during weekday lunch. So I was quite surprised about the nice size of the place. And I was pleasantly surprised by the tastiness of the food. It's not greasy like Chicago Gyros, which is the Five Guys of the Middle East. I first had the Lamb Doner Kebab. If you've ever met me, you know that lamb gives me a (rhymes with doner). This doner was delectably delicious. Then I treated myself to a Chop Chicken Salad, which should make other restaurants ashamed of themselves, they're doing it all wrong compared to this one. The guys who work there are super friendly and eager to help, which makes it easy to make me smiley. Three thumbs up for customer service (counting one big toe). Recently discovered this small spot. All I can remember is they put so much meat on my gyro. I mean, I walk up to the register and I'm like, "$8 for a gyro, alright, I'm sure its good." They take me up to add my toppings to my gyro. The gyro maker's eyes and mine lock as I start to give this "I don't know what goes on a gyro" look. I succumb to my lack of knowledge and say I don't know what I'm doing. The gyro maker makes some suggestions on what to put on and I take every one of them. And then my gyro gets to the grill where they have been grilling my meat the whole time my toppings have been put on. They pile it all on and I'm surprised the guro can still be folded. The gyro was great and quite filling for lunch. $8 seemed expensive for a lunch, but for the amount of food they give you, its quite worth it. Holy falafel balls. My coworkers and I were looking for somewhere different and cheap to go for lunch today and when we found Durum Grill on Yelp. After a few intra-office emails practically drooling over the picture of the Doner Kebab, we headed over. When we arrived, the line was literally out the door (so head's up, don't go at noon on a cold day while wearing a polo), but the line moved inside fairly quickly. Once you get to the counter, you order upfront like most typical, casual Mediterranean restaurants. Like other reviewers have said they boast a pretty simple menu, but there's still something for everyone on there. We had a vegetarian with us who had more than enough choices (although she had a mini-freak out at the end when they told her the sandwich included falafel, which she humorously assumed was some unique meat). They also use a Chipotle style "build-your-own" assembly line if you want to get fancy; or you can just ask for it as they would normally make it. But enough fluff: how does it taste? There are some great one-off places in Cincinnati but the food here is up there with some of the best. We're talking about a restaurant in a suburban shopping center that could compete with the best of downtown. It's a little messy, but that was probably more due to my frantic desire to keep eating than anything else (seriously, none of us spoke to each other for 5 minutes because we were obsessed with our food). All in all, go here immediately: whether you work in Blue Ash or you live in Florence. And get the Doner Kebab. read more

I went after work to eat dinner before an appointment. Simple menu and simple decor. I had the chicken shawarma and a side of baba ghanoush. The shawarma tastes nice and fresh, and it is a big portion size. And I love the baba ghanoush - it tastes fresh with garlic and traditional flavor, and isn't overprocessed or bland. Full disclosure - I am originally from Michigan and grew up on Middle Eastern food, so I'm very picky. I don't care for most Mediterranean restaurants in greater Cincinnati, but this place has excellent food. I'll definitely be back. read more

If you hold proper expectations of Döner Kebab, Shawarma, or any Arabic sandwiches, be ready to be disappointed. The shawarma is closer to a burrito and the owners seem confused about Greek and Turkish. Why else would they have feta cheese in a shawarma???? If you're just looking for a quick bite to eat, the sandwich is above average, the chicken meat was pretty good, the "gyro" meat was above average (aka not dry), but the shawarma wrap (which I expected to be durum) tasted more like a tortilla and was wrapped far too lose, with far too many bites being tortilla. This place "exists" right around the corner from my daytime office. I use the quotes because I wouldn't have even noticed it there between the Smash Burger and the Jersey Mikes, neither of which I frequent. Durum Grill though, oh man... if there's a place in Blue Ash you should check out, it's clearly Durum Grill. For the price ($8.50-$13 inc. canned drink) nothing beats it. I spend almost as much and get far less for it going to the McDonalds around the corner. In fact, I get better value in quantity of food here, than at Chipotle, believe it or not. I've had a traditional Gyro, a Gyro plate a Chicken Gyro and a beef Gyro and loved them all. They come "overstuffed" with food. I can almost never finish the whole thing, and for those who know me, that's a feat in itself (my rotund-tummy proves it.) The space is small, maybe six or seven tables, and a small "bar" for people eating alone and that's about it. In total it "might" seat 30-35ish? I love this place though, and it's completely worth your visit if you enjoy Mediterranean food or are a veg-head. Added to my Cincinnati Foodie Tour list for sure. read more

Durum Grill is a bit of a mystery. It's a small deli that serves very fresh, good food. This part is clear. Their gyros are memorable; the meat is perfectly seasoned, the tzaziki is fresh and piquant, the vegetables are fresh and new-cut. The baklava, though clearly bought somewhere else, is also perfectly acceptable. Portions are huge, taste is wonderful, prices are low. The mystery is this - why is business there so slow? I have eaten there twice when visiting Cincinnati, and both times in the evening it was completely empty. Where is everyone? Sooooo, i used to love this place. I don't know what happened, but the chicken has transformed from a succulent, amazingly tasty nugget of deliciousness to plain old chicken. It's seemingly a different recipe than they used before. On top of that, they raised the price on the chopped chicken salad a couple of bucks to $9.50, plus drinks are not included anymore. so let's see, more expensive and not as good? no thanks. Great strip mall Greek food. We were from out of town, and were looking for a quick lunch on the way to kings island. We got there as it opened at 11am. We ordered a gyro plate and a chicken plate. My husband was off from work this week and I had a hankering for Mediterranean food so he picked up some eats from Durum and brought them to work for me (he's a pretty great husband!) Since I've never physically been there - this review is based solely on the food. We ordered both the chicken shwarma and gyro. The gyro was one of the best I've had in the city - the meat was well-spiced and I liked that the chunks were a little smaller than normal because it meant more crispy edges (which I enjoy). The tzatziki sauce was yummy and the gyro was piled with the delicious meat. Overall no complaints about that dish. The chicken shwarma, however, left me wishing we had ordered 2 gyros. I think the main issue with this dish was that it was wrapped in a flour tortilla (think Chipotle) rather than a pita. The meat was seasoned well, but was hardly anything to write home about. Overall I think I'd give Durum Grill 3.5 stars based on the food, but I like to round up :) read more

If you want exceptional food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. I usually get the chicken platter, which is exceptional. It usually comes with a small salad with onions and tomatoes. It usually comes with a cabbage slaw. I am a picky eater, and don't eat the salad and the slaw. The thing that I love to get is the euro meat. It is crunchy and salty fresh off the slicer. I would definitely recommend doing half chicken, half euro. Not only do you get a delicious combo, but it seems that you get twice the meat for the same price. As for dessert, you can get baclava. I am so glad I went here for lunch. This review is only 4 stars because of the long wait during lunch time but im sure if I went at a less busy time I would give this place a full 5. I love that every order is so customizable with the variety of toppings and you can watch them prepare the food right in front of you. I got the chicken kabab, chose my toppings and got hot sauce on the side and it was so delicious and filling. This plus a coke for 7$ was perfect. The portions are huge and the staff was so friendly. I know others have mentioned undercooked meat but at one point during my visit the staff apologized for taking so long with my order because they wanted to make sure the chicken was cooked and I appreciated that. I very, very rarely give out five star reviews but Durum Grill has earned one. The place is a excellent lunch destination and the team working there moves quickly to accommodate people with on their lunch break whose schedules are limited. The restaurant is set up like a Middle Eastern Chipotle! You select your entree or sandwich and then select the topics and ingredients of your choosing. Everything is extremely fresh and the portions for the Shwarma sandwiches are very large. Every lunch order comes with a free drink as well. The menu offers vegetarian options too and the Felafel sandwiches are excellent. If you're in the area - I recommend stopping in. The value, cost, and taste will be something you won't forget! read more

We have gone twice already for their shawarma. This is essentially a gyro on thinner bread with more toppings than chipotle offers on their burritos. The portions (and value) have been excellent as is the taste. The restaurant and bathroom have also been very clean. We are looking forward to their menu continuing to expand over time. For those that have been to Germany, the Shawarma they make is very similar in taste to the Doner kebab, which is Germany's favorite fast food, outside of the bratwurst. read more

Sorry, the gyro meat is just average. Gave it 2 tries and was disappointed twice despite the great concept and overwhelmingly friendly staff. The meat is seasoned ... differently than most ... and is also less juicy than your favorite gyro meat. Sadly, it isn't the right combo for me as a self-proclaimed gyro connoisseur. However, their baklava is legitimately delicious and the food portions are tremendous. Very good tzatziki and the falafel was decent too. Go for baklava, overall portion sizes and friendly smiles.
