Traveling with my wife and we realized brakes needed replacement. Called ahead, explained symptoms and made appointment. Brought truck in, they checked it out, did all four wheels. Terrible pricing and lack of transparency. I would not recommend this shop to anyone that's looking for fair prices or honest services. I recently received a quote for a transmission replacement and they tried charging me 7 grand just for the transmission alone. After calling around it became clear that they are severely overcharging. Seems to me they're trying to take advantage of customers who don't know any better. BLUF: This shop and it's owners and staff are absolutely top notch. Do business with them if you value your vehicle and money. My truck started making a strange noise in the engine on a longer road trip back to Durango. I called every dealership and two mechanics in town, all of which were weeks to months out from being able to look at it. One last shot and I called this crew. "Sure, drop it off in two days and we'll keep it for the day". Arrived two days later, the head mechanic jumped in with me and listened to the noise. It was faint but he heard it. Good thing for me because it saved me from making weird noises in front of experienced people! Got the truck back two days later after having been told exactly what's wrong, what will later on fail, and how much it will cost to fix it. Agreed on price and picked up the truck. Everything runs well and I paid exactly what we agreed on. These guys are legit and I will always have them work on our vehicles from here on out. read more

These guys are a true rarity these days. I was traveling across the country on vacation and about to head into the mountains when my brake wear indicator light turned on. Knowing that I would need my brakes and I was carrying precious cargo (my wife), I did not want to take any chances. I called Durango Automotive, and talked to TJ. He went out of his way to track down my hard-to-find brake pads, and agreed to make room in his garage to swap them with little notice when I drove through town. When I arrived to Durango, they immediately got my car on a lift. They inspected my brake pads and showed me that I had enough wear left to safely get home to Oklahoma before having them replaced. They did not even charge me for the diagnostic! Truly amazed at their integrity and honesty. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing automotive services. Well done! read more

Great staff & service.We were on our way home to Wisconsin when our muffler blew (on a Saturday). We went to this place first thing Monday morning and they fit us right in so we could get back on the road. They even pointed out a couple things to have checked at home. While repairs were being done (& since we were within walking distance to downtown Durango) we did a little shopping. This place also had a small sitting area with TV, coffee, water & snacks. Place is terrible. I brought in my vehicle for an estimate and it's been 2 months since. They still have not gotten back with me and I have called almost every week since to ask about the quote and getting my car in for service. The owner just picks up the phone and says "i'm sorry, i've been busy." Terrible customer service and a complete waste of time. Let me preface this with stating I am a business owner myself..so it is extremely important to me to find not only quality, but honesty, when doing with any business. That being said, I was in a pickle. A big pickle. I was on a road trip..from Denver to Durango..and my brakes went out coming down Red Mountain. This was by far not a pleasant experience..at all. I knew with how busy shops are I wouldn't likely find help since they are usually back logged and only taking appointments, and I was to head back over Red Mountain Pass the next day. I took a chance and popped into Durango Muffler and Brake, explained my situation. The woman at the front desk, and Bryan the lead technician were very empathetic, and did what they needed to do to get me worked in to ensure a safe trip back. Bryan took great care of my Jeep, and even saved my old brake pads to show me how I had no pads left. They were great with communication and letting me know with the rust situation under my Jeep there may be a caliper issue and they may need to be replaced if they snapped while bleeding the brakes (mind you..I'm no mechanic so if that doesn't sound right that's on my part..not theirs) ..but luckily I was in the clear there..and they were honest about it!! Bryan cleaned the rust off my back brakes..replaced my front brakes, and just did an amazing job with my Jeep. I was really in a bind..traveling with my dog..brakes went out..and having to be back on Denver the next day..but they really stepped up to the plate and did all they could to help me! Even upon my arrival back to Denver I received a message from TJ, the shop owner, asking how my Jeep did and handled on the way back! They really took pride in the work they did and ensuring I was safe. I cannot express the appreciation I have for their willingness to fit me in..the quality of work..and the honesty! It's rare to come across a business that operates with integrity these days..but I'm glad I was lucky to stumble upon one! read more

I took my truck in to them because the brakes were squeaking. They called me an hour and half later and told me that my brakes were fine, just had some dirt in them and that I should not have to do anything for awhile. This place is the best! It was suggested/recommended by the hotel manager where we were staying in Durango. A check engine light came on for our 2012 Chevrolet Equinox LT and we had many more miles to travel! They put it up on the rack, did the computer test and said we were ok but to have it really checked out when we got home. Well, we made it home after many more days of travel! They didn't charge! I couldn't even get an estimate over the phone to put brake pads on my 2004 Suburban. The guy started off saying that ALL GMC vehicles are difficult to give estimates on for some reason they need all sorts of information like tire size, wheel size, etc. The guy then said I needed to make an appointment just to bring it down there for them to JUST LOOK AT! then make another appointment to bring it in for service( I live more than 12 miles away), He did offer to drive me, but what kind of business is this for not knowing a simple cost of brake pad service when your name is Muffler & BRAKE. I have never in my life been through that. Honestly I felt like I was calling a used car dealership and he just wanted to get me in the store. Come to find out the person I was talking to was the OWNER! I then called the competition Firestone and they gave me an estimate no problem over the phone, so I will be going there tomorrow morning. There is no reason for anyone to have to go through that kind of non-sense JUST to get an estimate on pads. On top of that, when you go to their website click on reviews. It says you can write a review using Google+, Yelp, or YP. But it only lets you post to Yelp and not the others. read more
