Tonight was our first time at Dunn Rite Cafe, but it won't be our last! The food was fresh, homemade, and delicious! I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. I never eat fresh green beans, but these were so yummy! My husband had The Judge Club and his words were, "It's FANTASTIC"! Our server was precious and checked on us frequently! Food...I had chicken and waffles. Waffle was what you would expect. The fried chicken breast was in my opinion, phenomenal. I wanted to ask what they put in the batter but didn't get the chance. It was really good though. Husband had the same thing but he had jalapeno bacon syrup where I had just plain maple. He likes spicy things and said it needed more jalapeno. Service...the waitress was nice. She took our orders and checked on us often. Ambiance...is what you would expect from a cute small town cafe. First things first -- this is not the old Brandy's. New owners, new energy, and a fresh start in a familiar building here in Decatur. If you've been around long enough to remember Brandy's, reset your expectations. These folks previously ran Wing It Café at Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth, and you can tell there's real kitchen experience behind what's coming out of the back. Let's talk food. The biscuits? Cooked properly with those beautiful crispy bottoms that biscuit lovers appreciate. The bacon was perfectly crispy, not limp, not burnt -- just right. And everything was very well seasoned, which is harder to get right than people think. The cook clearly has some talent. Now, were there some opening-week kinks? Sure. The soft scramble wasn't exactly soft scrambled, the over-medium leaned over-easy, and the waffle could've used a bit more crisp. But those are easy fixes -- seasoning and execution are much harder to teach, and they've already nailed that part. This feels like a place that's going to grow into something special. Decatur is soon to be spoiled for breakfast options, and I'm excited to watch this one hit its stride. We'll absolutely be back. read more

These folks make some seriously good biscuits, and everything they do is straight-up comfort food. Their breakfasts are fantastic and the dinners are just as satisfying. It's a super welcoming place on the town square that feels like home. Definitely worth stopping in if you're craving something hearty and delicious. read more

Excellent service being the top thing to note!! But of course delicious food is also something to note. I had the breakfast tacos and my friend had the toast. We shared a biscuit with gravy just to try it out. The biscuit & gravy rates highest in my book and I'll definitely be back for it! The toast would be better on the sourdough over the rye. I personally would prefer fresh avocado over the smash but it was still good. The breakfast tacos were pretty good but the biscuit & gravy is what I'll remember! Will be back for sure!! read more

My husband and I recently went to this restaurant and ate dinner. After that, we took some family members and went back the next day for breakfast. We both enjoyed our food, as well as the grandchildren enjoyed theirs, and would give our overall dining experience a five 5. Our first time there, my husband ordered a club sandwich and onion rings, and I ordered roast beef with mashed potatoes. My husband said he would give the club sandwich a five 5 because it was well-made and perfectly and the meat to bread ratio was proportioned correctly. I tried his onion rings and loved them and would give them a five 5, but I don't think he liked him as much as I did. He said he would give the onion rings a four 4, but whatever the case, they were good! And... I enjoyed their homemade ranch dressing that came along with them and the salad that I ordered. There was a salad that came with my meal and you can see what it looks like from this picture. I'm not a lover of bacon and didn't know it was on the salad, but most people do, and it clearly was a better salad to me than a lot of restaurants offer. I don't think I would ever order the roast beef again and would probably give it a three 3. It tasted like it had rosemary in it and for my personal preference, it had way too much rosemary in it. In their defense, my husband is a good cook and he makes a kick-tail roast beef and so that's going to be hard to beat. I didn't really enjoy it and didn't eat it all, but I did LOVE their mashed potatoes and gravy. They were SO good and I believe they were made from scratch. I would give the mashed potatoes, a five 5 and would order them again. The grands had MINI corn dogs with french fries and the other had a hamburger with french fries. The size of the hamburger for the kids menu was really good and they even offered to put it on wheat bread to help with a food sensitivity. My husband knows I like a sweet coleslaw and so he ordered it on the side. It really wasn't sweet enough for me and so I really did not enjoy that. However, my husband ate some and he thought it was nice to see a homemade slaw The next day we went for breakfast and the grandkids had pancakes with their choice of sides, and they both really enjoyed them. They were a very good size portion for it being off the kids venue and we were happy that they were happy. I ordered one of their plates that had potatoes with eggs and ask for my gravy to be on the side, but I should have just ordered it like it came because I ended up eating all the gravy anyway. It too was very good! My husband ordered an omelette and would give it a four 4. It also came with a side of grits and he would give them a two 2. He did not like the grits because he thought they were not well prepared and lumpy and he wondered if they were instant grits. Overall, we had a positive experience and enjoyed the food! When we are in that area and have an opportunity to go again, I think we definitely will. read more

The team at Dunn Rite Cafe are the sweetest and most attentive bunch of people. Food is delicious and fresh. I recommend the pot roast and meatloaf!
