Time to update my short review of this Dunn Bros from years ago. It's all for the better since I'm a fairly regular visitor, especially during the outdoor seating season. There has been ownership changes but the quality remains. They have great sandwiches, especially the chicken with a healthy smear of pesto on toasted slices. It's thick and priced right. Sitting outside affords a view of the busy street life of the village and Lake Minnetonka. There is a water bowl for the dog and this location in the twin cities is particularly friendly. I've had more friendly conversations with people who were passing by or just chilling in the sun, (huh)? as I was. No code needed for restroom facilities and baristas will smile and work efficiently. read more

Went to an early yacht party on lake Minnetonka and had a conversation with my friend about how back in the day we used to go to Dunns Bros and get a drink called 'Iced Crema' (or something along those lines) and it had ice cream in it. There's no online proof of it existing but we both remembered it but also aware it's been removed off the menu for years now. I say all that to say we went in just to ask the staff if it existed lol. We learned that the ice creama never had ice cream and it was in fact just a frappe & they changed the name from to stir away from people thinking it contained ice cream. Over the years I have seen Dunn Bros incorporate ice cream into seasonal drinks - I remember 6-7 years ago a root beer float coffee drink. So I still feel like ice creama was real. Lol. I have gotten my decaf coffee 4-6 times a week during every summer for the past 15 years. Since new owners took over they no longer brew decaf. Not only that but I always was able to get a senior small for $2. Now they have taken that away and it's $3.40! I will no longer be going to that Dunn brothers again. I must not be the only one not happy because while I used to not be able to find a seat outside, no one goes there anymore. So sad! Being back the senior decaf and I'll come back! read more

This place rocks! Why go to a big chain type coffee shop when you can come to Excelsior...have a view of the lake...have a wonderful coffee and a sandwich made from scratch plus talk to the owners at the same time! 10/10 would recommend! read more

Wow they have so many non dairy milk options!! Way to go, soy, coconut, almond, oat, and I feel like I forgot one lol Staff were friendly and service was quick. I got an iced oat milk latte and got the hubby an iced chai tea latte. The coffee was good but again sorry... blond roast espresso just takes the cake... Dunn Brothers coffee, greatest location in town, (was) going there over 10 years, even from the owners, no matter how sweet of employees working there, I have never ever ever ever gotten a thank you when ordering, especially if you leave a tip, I have been there dozens and dozens of times. Super sad.Entryway and windows are absolutely FILTHY at all times, super super sad, no one has ever told anyone working in there any simple manners to say please and thank you- and maybe wash the windows on doors and sweep out entryway-I would even go as far to say it has never been done, ever- SAD.Go there- you will see what we ALL experience!!!! Really great coffee I had a quad shot. The lady making my shots talked to me about how they check the pull time and temps of the espresso machine at least twice a day. I thought that was amazing. Really nice view of Lake Minnetonka to sit and work or relax. They serve food and wine at this location. Also have a fire place and free wifi. read more

Dunn Brothers Coffee is a great coffee shop! The Excelsior location is consistently good - the wait usually isn't too long and they make great coffee and espresso drinks. In the options for coffee are slightly limited (no pour over or aero press available), which is why I'm giving it four stars instead of five. A great place to catch some music, get some coffee, and watch the locals. No matter what time of year or what time of day, there are always a few folks here and the drinks are reliably great! They also have wine and beer if you'd rather relax with something other than coffee. Two sperate sitting areas inside plus an enclosed "conference room" for use by patrons. The coffee is great and so is the location in the quaint town of Excelsior but the newer owners have a LOT to learn about service. As a resident and regular for over 6 years they seem to forget who I am on a regular basis. They miss part of my order, don't greet me nor do they thank me for your business. I have always treated the staff well and tipped $1 on a small order of less than $3 but have changed that habit when the owners are working...they just don't deserve it. The icing on the cake, no pun intended, is when you go there with a birthday coupon and they don't even wish you a happy birthday...neither of them. They have these ridiculous rules about what door to use and create an icy atmosphere that has clearly hurt their business. When I first became a regular the place was full each morning with all the locals huddled around a table and sharing stories. Everyone greeted everyone like it should be in a small town. I looked forward to going and seeing the people and the wonderful staff back in the day. Now I dread the morning hike as I am never sure how rude they will be or how it will impact my day. I really want to teach these 2 a thing or two about running a service business! read more

The best coffee house in town. If you ever want to know what is going on in the south lake Minnetonka area come hang out at Dunn Brothers in the morning. There is more gossip and rumors flying around this place than a middle school boys restroom. If its in the afternoon/evening go next door to haskells for the gossip. The coffee is wonderful. I suggest the vanilla nirvana it is really good. The food is really more of a convenience for the customer its best just to have drinks here and read the paper. read more

Great in-house roasted coffee, and I dig the live music on the weekends with no cover charge. Only taking 1 star off for Food as it is so/so. Not much better than gas station fare. Head to Margo's at the other end of Main if you want pastries. Get a frappe and walk around the park, is my recco. Bonus: they serve wine and beer to boot! read more

Wonderful hangout nook for an evening on the waterfront. You can't beat the location. The coffee is amazing and so are the other eatables. We had the pistachio muffin which was good and the cinnamon coffee cake which was even awesome. The staff is friendly and the interior is great. read more

Dunn Bros Excelsior is my second favorite coffee shop in the world, and I do mean the world. My order of excellence is 1) Ambrosia in Sacramento, 2) Dunn Bros in Excelsior, and 3) the Shanghai Starbucks. Actually I only include the Shanghai Starbucks because it was so amazing to find a small bastion of North America Normal in such a very foreign country. I love China, but it was nice to take a break in familiar surroundings. The Dunn Brothers in Excelsior is friendly, comfortable, has a conference room and is near my favorite body of water, Lake Minnetonka. Keep up the good work!!! read more

This is such a cute Dunn Bro's that is tucked just around the corner from the boat dock! Amazing place. Live music & I am currently listening to Bob Manning & the Real Deal. They were rock, blues & a little bit of everything. It is hot as heck because it is so crowded. Standing room only. ! Not only do they serve just coffee but also - beer and wine! Wine glasses were between $6-$8. Beer was in bottles/cans only starting at $4. The staff was nice and friendly and knew how to handle the crowd of people. The windows were open and was great to hear the music through the window as we were stiting outside. The bugs were out of control - I"m sure it was a mix of the weather, light and lake but they were everywhere. Throw on some bug spray before you go. I love DB's, and this one is right next to the lake. But baresta Shelia, did not admit she made a mistake, and wanted to argue with me, rather than apologize, and keep the customer. Why? I expect more from DB. I won't be back. There are enough other places to go. read more

Stopped in here while I was waiting for an event to start near the lake. It is in a cute building really close to the water and near other trendy shops on the main drag. The line was very long and the whole place was super busy but they did an excellent job of taking care of everyone and being very friendly while doing so. I was very satisfied with my experience and loved the cozy atmosphere and convenient location. read more

I loved this place! Super great coffee and good atmosphere! I ordered an iced caramel late with almond milk which was amazing, I definitely prefer it over the same drink at starbucks. I like this location but coming here in the mornings I have found the woman behind the register is grumpy and doesn't like me telling her how I like my cappuccino. She listens with a frown and then tells me she'll make me a latte - which I don't want and that I simply want less foam then is normally put in her cappuccino. Just a little less foam and she begrudgingly makes it and angrily hands me my cup. Very frustrating read more

This place is the best! Coffee joints that make my drinks with almond milk score big!! Sadly, there are many places that do not cater to the dairy-intolerant crowd (horrid soy milk does not count). Dunn Bros in Excelsior gets my bucks! I love that they offer a private room for events. read more

Looks like new owners have taken over. Used to be a fun welcoming place to go in Excelsior. Owner actually chased me out because I was sitting there waiting to meet someone and hadn't ordered. WOW couldn't believe. The place was empty BTW. Too bad used to go there all the time. read more

We've enjoyed coming here for years! This is a small town and we get a lot of locals that consider this place their daily coffee shop. Recently a new management took over and it seems they are making too many changes too quick. Not very customer service oriented. Not very friendly either. Some customers have already decided to go somewhere else. It's a shame. read more

For years I have come in to this Dunn Bros multiple times a week to work and read, etc., as I have always enjoyed Dunn Bros coffee. In my experience the customer service is dismal. Despite years of patronage they don't seem to acknowledged my regular business. It surprises me that in a small place like this they would not recognize regular customers who buy bags of coffee, eat food, drink coffee, juice, etc. As a recent example of what I believe is a poor attitude, this morning it was a cold winter's day and it was nice to have the fireplace on (it was off yesterday when I was in here reading). One of the workers asked if it could be turned off, claiming that people complained about the heat, which seemed odd to me, as I was the only one seated around it and within range of its heat, and those at the tables didn't seem to notice it, as they seemed involved in their conversations. When I respectfully declined, a few minutes later a co-worker approached, again claiming people complained that it was too hot with the brewing machines on, etc., and just turned it off. Again, the comment was odd, as I hadn't noticed anyone approach the counter to complain. read more
