In fact, on our last visit, we stopped at Duck's Donuts FIRST to pick up a fresh dozen for the weekend. And by "weekend", I really just mean Saturday night & Sunday morning. These doughnuts are so good that I wasn't surprised that only 2 were left when we headed home the next day. Although they are BEST warm & fresh, these doughnuts are also delicious the next day. We mentioned it was our first time when we walked in since we knew it would take us forever to choose our order. We were warmly greeted by Smiley and other staff (I regret not getting everyone's names) and were given a "tour" of the offerings. We ended up asking lots of questions and ordering several things to try for our trip home. You could tell by their enthusiasm and amazing customer service that the people working here enjoy what they do. The kindness and generosity we experienced today cannot be understated. We had lots of laughs and such a great time during what was supposed to be a quick random stop. However, to my surprise, Kookaburra had phenomenal lattes. However, for the past 6 months the quality of the lattes has deteriorated. The lattes come out either too bitter, watery and/or EXTREMELY hot. (It is possible to burn the milk while you froth it.) I'm not sure what it is, maybe the machines aren't being cleaned frequently, the espresso isn't dialed in, there is a new staff that isn't trained properly and pays attention to details? This is also not a one time occasion. I have come back many times and hoped the quality would be different. I've given back my latte and pointed out its ways too hot , the milk hasn't frothed well, etc, but still leave disappointed. One thing that I can't wrap my mind around is that there is a coffee shop about 10 minutes (Mikes Pour) which sources their beans Kookaburra and were initially trained by Kookaburra. Same recipes , just different name AND better taste. This place can be the perfect shop for the neighborhood. And I love the brand and was inclined to buy some swag. It was a cute little shop with donuts, shakes, and ice cream. The donuts are not traditional donuts; more like deep fried donut holes that are covered with all kinds of yummy toppings. They're also served nice and hot and in 10 packs. They had lots of cool donut flavors like: Dark Delight, Maple Bacon, , White Tella, and Love U Matcha, The prices range from $8.75 to $9.50 per box. They all sounded yummy; but we decided on Twix Fix, drizzled with caramel, melted chocolate, and cookies, and Lotus Crunch, which was topped with melted Biscoff cookies. Our order was ready in about 5 minutes and the bag of donuts was nice and warm. We ate them when we got back home. They were more chewy and heavier than regular donut holes, but rich and delicious. You could really only eat a few; so a box of 10 is a decent sized dessert for 2 people to share. Lukumades is definitely a very unique donut experience and worth supporting because they're not a huge chain. You'll be glad you tried them....and its worth the drive.
