The food is amazing. We had half chicken and halibut, both were spectacular. The waitress was very efficient, and her recommendations were spot on. What I didnt enjoy was the fact that the music was so loud. So people tended to speak very loud, after a few drinks both music and conversation became unbearably too loud for my taste. Loved the food at Dune! My party of five raved about the food during and after dinner. It was delicious and we were so glad we stopped in. I had the Half Chicken Under A Brick. ($47.50). It came with crispy potatoes, fava relish (which I surprisingly enjoyed), sliced celery (which was delightful with the savory chicken) and roasted onion jus. The chicken was juicy and delicious. Great food, ambiance a little quirky. We went this past October on a long weekend trip. First off -- food is amazing. I would go back for that. I love beets and mozzarella, and those appetizers were a treat. Then it got interesting. As we waited for our entrees, we started to notice that the upstairs where we were seated was much quieter than the downstairs. The wait also gave us an opportunity to experience the Euro-techno music that they were oddly churning into the room at low volume. They say worry is the enemy of patience, so we remained calm and our dinners finally arrived after a long pause. Our theory -- they forgot! In their defense, the salmon was excellent, and they comped us a dessert. Will return but perhaps sit downstairs next time. read more

This is the third time for us eating at this restaurant over the last five years. We have a good friend who loves this place so we tried it again last night. This time at Dune we had a mixed dinner. Over the years, comments for Dune have been good, but surprisingly there are many mediocre to critical comments for the 2024 season ( see google ). Perhaps something changed. For our recent experience we ate at the bar, very good bartender- both in drinks and service. We started off with the beet salad, outstanding! We also started with calamari, modest portion and tough. Nothing special at all. Their menu for entrees is very limited. My wife had the sirloin, good and well portioned but veggies were on the cool side. I had the swordfish, two small and thin cuts, well cooked but small portion and the accompaniments were puréed vegetables without taste nor identity and a few sting beens overcooked with pistachios for added texture. We shared a peach desert which was nothing special. Four drinks, two appetizers, two entrees and one dessert, with a generous tip, about $350. Service at bar was great. Unfortunately, as in several of the other reviews for this season, Dune does not appear to be the great restaurant of past years. As of now it is expensive and mediocre, with a very small entree menu. Ambiance was adequate but not special, our view out the window was the side of the house next to the restaurant. My wife and I concluded that we might try them once every 5 years, certainly not every season. read more

When you come to Nantucket, one must expect to drop some coin when going out to dinner and such is the case at Dune, but at least it's good! We sat at the bar as they were booked for the night. :: Side note: we did arrive at about 5:30 and the bar was empty, but at about 6:30 it was full:: We enjoyed a few appetizers, some drinks and dinner. Dune is lovely. A bit modern, so not for those looking for that Nantucket rustic charm. But still lovely. The gazpacho with crab was fine. I wouldn't order again. The dumplings while delicious, were pricy for the amount of dumplings. My halibut ringing in at close to $50, was delicious. My friend laughed and said she was expecting me to get an even smaller piece, but by no means was this a large piece of fish. But it was cooked well and in a coconut milk sauce with some potatoes and veggies. My friends piece of duck was a nice size, and she absolutely raved. We had a few delicious cocktails and called it a day. The bartender was friendly and we had a good time! Not a cheap endeavor and you won't leave full, but the food was good and fresh! read more

If you love seafood and aren't afraid of trying creative dishes, this is the spot for you. Dune's menu is ever evolving and always uses fresh ingredients. The fish was outstanding quality and the use of contrasting flavors in each dish was completely unique to Dune. I eagerly anticipated each dish, we just had to order the entire menu. The hostesses and our waiter were all kind, personable, and worked quickly. We came 30 minutes earlier than our reservation and they were able to accommodate us. The outdoor seating is beautiful and floral, the tent is a canopy of faux vines that I personally find charming. Highly recommend coming here more than once if you visit nantucket. read more

During COVID I was paying 3% COVID charge for food. But this is a first for a kitchen. Way after COVID? $200 for two of us and they nickel us for the kitchen. My friends and I planned a bachelorette party in Nantucket and made a reservation at Dune for dinner one evening. We were seated on the patio upon arrival and looked over the menu. I went with wine this evening, but some of my friends ordered cocktails and enjoyed them. For appetizers, we ordered the Roasted Red & Gold Beets and Calamari. For dinner, I went with the Tuna. Overall, the food was excellent. The appetizers were awesome and fresh. My Tuna was perfectly rare and tasted great with the ramen, veggies, and ponzu sauce. The presentation was also immaculate, so I enjoyed eating with my eyes and my stomach! Ambiance was great. The patio is cute and tucked away. We weren't seated too close to any other tables, so we could enjoy our conversation. The inside is very cool, so I recommend going in to check it out if you're seated on the patio. Our service was just OK. We didn't feel rushed at any point, but no one was overly attentive either. We usually had to flag someone down when we needed something, so having them check in more frequently would've been nice. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping into Dune if you're on the island. Price point is to be expected for the island and the divine food/fun ambiance made the night worth it! read more

Very nice, a little crowded (space/table), a lot of stairs, nice wine list, great bar, and very good food. The service was great but our lovely waitress seem pretty stressed because, it appeared the kitchen forgot the order for the table next to us, and the affected couple there was not terribly gracious in their response. The menu is online so you can decide if you like it. Like most good restaurants these days they cook a fairly narrow selection, ensuring the freshest and often local ingredients. In this environment, I tend to love the starters and be only OK with the mains and one day I'll simply just order a starter for both courses: here, I'd have ordered the salad, the bisque, and the dim sum and been for the evening. Instead, I had the scallops for the main and didn't look back. Corn bisque with crab: excellent. Pan-roasted scallops: excellent. Chicken dim sum starter: very good. Halibut: excellent. Steak: very good. Creme brule: solid. As with everything, a lot is about expectations: this place came to us very highly recommended and while it was very good, and I'll definitely return again, I wasn't blown away. I have been coming to Nantucket for 30 years, and have eaten at dune many times. I came back for the first time in a few years a couple of nights ago- wow. So, so good. This was our first time coming here. The food was delicious, but the service was not good, which is why I am giving it 3 stars. Our server hardly ever checked on us and we felt more like an "afterthought" table. He didn't even offer to refill our cocktails even once. The food was incredibly tasty though, so compliments to the chef. The dumplings were amazing as a starter. Both dishes we got were incredibly flavorful and fresh. It would be hard to find a restaurant that has worked harder to accommodate social distancing and indoor outdoor options. The wait staff and hostesses are communicating so well and sensitive to all requests. The food is beyond divine and unique with many vegetarian options. I had the mushroom risotto that was full of mushrooms as so creamy I want to go back tomorrow! I also had the tuna tartar that was beautifully presented and made with crispy bits inside. A perfect combination of flavors and textures. And for dessert a pot of chocolate that was topped with fresh whipped cream and chocolate bits. Oh my goodness!!! Came here without a reservation since we could not get one, but got lucky. We were only visiting Nantucket for a few nights and this place was on my list. They have a very nice outdoor and another covered patio for dining. They have specials so ask the waiter! We ordered the calamari, mozzarella & tomato salad, the pork belly (special), and oysters. The pork belly was cooked alongside a mole sauce and it was amazing! For dinner we shared the swordfish and it was cooked to perfection. It melted in our mouths and the Greek "salad" underneath it was so flavorful. Definitely recommend this place if you can get a reservation or get lucky with a walk in. read more

We made a reservation here in Nantucket and it was a great decision because the restaurant was full within its first round of seating within the first hour. The restaurant is located within the main area of Nantucket and easily accessible with walking. The restaurant has outdoor seating, indoor first floor with a bar and second floor dining area. Service was super great as our waitress was very friendly and helpful with deciding what to order. Presentation of food was amazing here as this was a place where I took pictures of every dish. Halibut was a popular dish as 4 of the 5 of us in our group ordered that. They had a special kale Caesar salad which I thought was tasty. I ordered the scallops and I thought they were perfect. The halibut was slightly over cooked. Ugh, I had to give this place 4 stars because I found a hair. I'm not going to crucify anyone over this, and I did continue to eat because I'm not *that* person; all I'm saying is if you have one of the better restaurants in Nantucket that's known for its food and is very well respected, rookie mistakes like hair shouldn't be happening. I also didn't mention it while I was there because it was a little crammed and I didn't want to throw any of the other customers off. I did leave the hair on a napkin that was easily seen. The food was out of this world. My husband and I shared an appetizer with scallops and uni in some sort of sauce. My husband was so excited because after countless hours of watching cooking shows and always hearing about uni, he was finally getting to eat some. I got the pan seared Nantucket bay scallops (skipped the Brussels sprouts!) and they were fantastic. Even though, I did find a hair, I just took it out and got over it. It is gross, but we're human and sometimes we make mistakes. My husband got the duck and loved it.. he and one other member of our party wiped their plates CLEAN! Dune was our last meal on the island and truly an unforgettable one. We had an evening reservation and were greeted by the sweetest host. Service was great throughout our entire meal. We ordered the calamari to start with, then got the pork chops and sirloin steak. Portions were quite big so we ended up taking leftovers for the next day. In regards to the food, my pork chops were yummy but a little strong on the teriyaki, the sweetness overtook all the flavors. My husbands steak was fantastic, he said it was the best he had on the island. For dessert we got the berries shortcake i believe it was called, and a peanut butter chocolate mousse. The lady fingers in the strawberry shortcake were a little hard but the berries were fresh. The mousse absolutely blew our mind. It was creamy, perfectly decadent with just the right touch of peanut butter taste. It was one of the best desserts we ever had and have considered flying black just to dine her again. We went to the quaint side bar that had Art Deco. What made us stop was hearing a guitarist playing and the people signing along with him. At first we thought we walked into a private party. Little tables and a couch area made it a relaxing vibe. I am used to fine dining and this by far was the best place on Nantucket Island ! Great fish great quality . Update: went back this year and OMG the chicken was SO good. Look out Gordon Ramsy, this kid will blow you away. By far the best pairing of flavors, and a good unique and refreshing approach, while expanding a menu, where you can eat in any corner of the globe, through many dishes. The wine menu you know was carefully thought out, when they offer a Pinot noir from the Oregon coast, where americas best Pinot Noirs come from. We enjoyed a very nice dinner at Dune tonight. The wait staff on the first floor was efficient and friendly. Started with the raw oysters which had a delicate rhubarb mignonette. They were refreshing and a wonderful start to the meal. My entree was the vegetarian tasting; this was a platter of six samples of vegetables prepared in different ways. I believe these preparations would be the ones you would find accompanying other entrees. It was very tasty and such a nice twist to just serving one vegetarian entree. The meal ended with a strawberry shortcake (light and airy) and the chocolate pot de creme (rich and deep). The one small complaint I had was the noise level on the main/first floor. It is a small room so the addition of any loud bar clients can be a tad much. They have a second floor; this may be a better option if you are sensitive to noise. read more

I was a bit nervous eating indoors but people seemed to adhere to socially distancing and tables seemed reasonably spaced apart Service; great, server was attentive Food; good but portions are a little on the smaller side - ordered the calamari (was a bit small). Partner had the tuna and I had the scallops as my entree. Scallops were cooked perfectly and were well seasoned. I would recommended. For dessert got the creme de pot and donuts. I really enjoyed the donuts. While portions were small quality was excellent. Prices are high but that's to be expected on Ack. I would certainly return. read more
