We came back here about week ago and everything was so different than our first experience. Our server who was the same person that served us the first time we came here barely acknowledged us or even helped us. We had to go up to the counter to ask for a highchair, to ask for water, a fork and a plate for our 3 year old.. I mean come on! They also now have it set up so that you have to order yourself at the table but nobody tells you this. They just stare at you peculiarly till you figure it out yourself. Very unprofessional. I don't understand restaurants like this where you have to pretty much do everything yourself besides make the food and then you're expected to leave 20%? The food itself was still good but soup dumplings weren't hot, won ton soup tasted like they dropped an opened bottle of soy sauce inside. The wontons were so good but it was way too salty. This place honestly exceeded my expectations - this is probably gonna become my go-to spot for dumplings/bar related things! There are honestly so many different "dumpling ___" places in SF it's impossible to keep track of, but this place has been my favorite out of all the different ones I've tried so far! And here are the reasons: - their pan fried dumplings are so good, it's like a pan fried xiaolongbao almost. Super juicy. Highly recommend taking a small bite out to the top and suck all the juice out first before biting in though - not only do they do their dumplings and baos really well, the big plate noodle we got was so on point. The flavor was so balances - wasn't too sweet and with the perfect amount of savory and cumin. The noodles were super chewy too! - reasonably priced! We came on a Thursday night and got seated right away. The food arrived piping hot and delicious. You will find juicy dumplings here for sure. New favorite XLB/SJB place in the city! So much so that I came on back to back weekends. I had given up on xiao long bao (小笼包) in the city for a while, but luckily Dumpling Zone is located at a pretty prominent intersection in our part of town (replaced a burger place), and the reviews were really, really good, so we decided to park nearby and give it a try. So glad I did since I now have a go-to place for XLB! We were quite happy to find that most of them did not break even though the skin is on the thinner side and they were full of soup, surely a sign of great XLB. Sheng jian bao (生煎包) were also really good. They're similar to Dumpling Home's style, where the bottom half or so is deep-fried. Super soupy, just like the XLB! I do think they deep-fry it a centimeter or two too high, which makes it a little hard to bite and suck the soup out. We also got the big rib noodle plate, and I loove wide noodles. I wasn't expecting a tomato-based noodle dish, but it was both sweet and spicy at the same time. The ribs themselves were really good, tasted super Chinese instead of the substitute cuts of meat I settle for at Safeway when I cook at home. Good number of potatoes, peppers, and onions too. The braised beef noodle soup had really, really great noodles and yummy broth, but I personally am not into beef tendon and the meat in this broth has tendon in it. I'll have to come back and try another noodle soup to indulge in the noodles next time! To top it all off, they allow well behaved dogs and there's no wait (at least not yet?!). Low key one of the best dimsum and noodle pleases in the city, but is underrated. The sheng jian bao is amazing - we get it everytime, and even their vegetable dumpling was delicious. Quite disappointed in this place. Came here thinking it would be amazing since it had such a high rating on yelp, but it was the other way around... Food, quite bad. Dumplings big af, yet was juicy and thin. Expensive too, 4 pieces is like $8, 8 pieces is $15, never seen something this expensive. The pan fried dumplings were so bad. Too much dough on the bottom, and it was sweet, quite odd. The big show of fried bean paste with pork noodle, salty as fuck, little ass sauce, meat disgusting it was rough, told them about it and did nothing, which leads us to the service. Service was terrible. Gave feedback to the waiter, instead he was talking back how us, "Cantonese" people have a different type of noodle, which I get, and that "my type of noodle" is not the same. Kept saying "your type of people" referring to Cantonese people. Felt disrespected, just because we are from a different province, doesn't mean you can bash us because your noodles dont live up to our expectation. Take the feedback, and fix it instead of blaming people from the same race but different part of the region, what the actual hell. Never thought I had to stand up to people that are the same race as me. Quite disappointed, never coming back again and you shouldn't go back either. Small dumpling shop kinda tucked away near West Portal, but has amazing dumplings! The price is high but they definitely deliver on quality. The xiao long bao are pristine and, of course, delicious. wow! truly a hidden gem. the menu is really unique and the dumplings are some of the best i've had in the bay area. * scallion pancake: 4/5, can't go wrong with these * tomato egg noodle: 4/5, it was good but i slightly prefer the ones at king of noodles in the sunset * special fish dumpling: 5/5, these were sooooo interesting. it's 2 giant dumplings which are almost bao-sized. i have no idea how they keep them together. both the wrapper and the filling were incredible. i still think about them! * vegetable dumpling: 5/5, they're somewhere between dumpling and bao. usually these are quite bland, but these were very flavorful and the best i've had at a non-vegetarian restaurant. would definitely get again. * chocolate banana XLB: 5/5!! i had to get this because it sounded so weird. i didn't expect to like it, but they were addictive! somehow the chocolate they use perfectly goes with the dumpling texture and banana. read more

Great place! This use to be a burger spot which was good but a bit pricey. This noodle shot is delicious. It's a great spot near the Forest Hill Muni station. My go-to here is the Hot and Spicy Beef noodle soup. It's similar to the Spicy and Sour Pork noodle soup from QQ Noodle in South Bay. So it's a nice, more local spot to get it. Can't comment how it is in the restaurant as I've only gotten takeout, but totally recommend. read more

We decided to come here after seeing the high ratings, and we're stunned by how untrue the reviews are. We ordered beef noodle soup, XLB, potstickers, and chocolate banana XLB. The beef in the noodle soup didn't taste fresh and was under seasoned. I love beef but it was so bad that I couldn't finish. When the potstickers were served, we are just shocked. I've never seen potstickers look like this! Was it dumplings pretending to be potstickers? Their signature dish, xiao long bao, in Chinese means little basket bun. Tell me why these are humongous basket buns? To its credit, the dough was thin and soft. However, the pork had a flavor that's not reminiscent of the classic pork filling. For dessert, we had chocolate banana xiao long bao. Again, they were not small. The chocolate filling was so sweet that it overpowered any chocolate flavor it had. We were so unhappy with the meal that we forgot to take pictures of the dessert. Just for the record, we've been to MANY Chinese and XLB restaurants. This is probably the worst and the weirdest food we have ever had. Would not recommend if you want authentic and delicious dumplings. read more

Convenient location just around the corner from the Forest Hill MUNI station. Lovely views of the Lagunda Honda hospital above. Quiet but well-attended on a Monday night, we ordered the Shanghai pan-fried pork buns, wood ear fungus salad, pork chive and shrimp potstickers, boiled cabbage and pork dumplings, mushroom and pork rib noodle soup, beef and tomato "dry" (read: saucy) beef and tomato noodles, garlic sautéed bok choy, and chrysanthemum tea. Onion pancake was slightly oily needed a little bit more flavor but the Chili oil came for the save. Chili oil was spot on. Not pictures as we finished them were the chili oil wontons. This is our second time here. We walked in around 1p on a Saturday and got seated right away for 4. We ordered the beef noodle soup, scallion pancake, lamb and fish mustard green noodle soup, regular pork XLBs and crab meat XLBs. Everything was really good. The beef noodle soup had a good amount of mala flavor to it. The green scallion pancakes were really fluffy which reminded me like Taiwan's scallion pancakes. The XLBs were juicy and the crab meat ones had a good amount of crab flavor to them. The fish in the fish noodle soup was flavorful and tender. I really enjoyed that. Overall, great place to eat. I was looking for a lunch spot so I searched dumpling in SF, and I literally got Dumpling Time, Dumpling Kitchen, Dumpling Union, Dumpling Home, Kingdom of Dumplings, Dumpling Dynasty, Dumpling Zone... ever since when did San Francisco become dumpling city?! I decided to check out Dumpling Zone because it came up near the top of my search, it looked promising, and I knew parking in Forest Hill was manageable. (Plus, the little happy dumpling logo is too cute to resist lol) Not to be confused with the popular Dough Zone, Dumpling Zone is a relatively new local spot featuring a variety of dumplings, noodle dishes, and small plates. (++) Shanghai Xiao Long Bao - We got a full order of 8 dumplings, and it came out steaming hot. Although I was always taught to judge an XLB by how thin the skins were, I thought Dumpling Zone got it just right--sturdy enough not to break, yet not too doughy to detract from the indulgent savory filling. (++) Chicken and mushroom noodle soup - This was hearty and delicious. The noodles had a nice al dente texture, the portion size was decent, and I appreciate the shiitake mushrooms. I saw the table next to us ordered food-porn-worthy super wide noodles, which I believe were the big plate noodles. I will definitely need to try that next time! (+++) Shanghai pan fried pork bao - Dumpling Zone's version is very similar to Dumping Home, and it makes me wonder if they are sourced the same. Regardless, it's one of my favorite things to eat in the Bay Area. The exterior is separated into a soft squishy upper half topped with sesame and chives, contrasting the bottom half which is deep-fried to a crispy golden brown. It's filled with flavorful pork and so much soup that it took me a few buns to master the art of eating it (I learned it works best when you bite a small hole to slurp up the soup first) Essentially, it's XLB on steroids. Other tips: - They have some interesting creations like shrimp & luffa XLB (sold out unfortunately) and chocolate banana XLB - Price is as expected for the Bay Area; total was $45 pre-tip for lunch for two - Service was friendly, though there's only one server. It was a short wait for all the food to arrive - I believe Dumpling Zone took over the spot of a former Thai restaurant. It's clean and rather well maintained; ambiance is simple and cozy - Street parking only. I turned into a driveway next to the small block of shops that Dumpling Zone is at, and it turned out to be an SFMTA-exclusive parking lot. I ordered the beef noodle soup and chicken dumplings for takeout. The beef noodle soup was a surprise. First, it was super cloudy and I interpreted that to mean it was made with a lot of bones/ had a lot of collagen. The soup did indeed taste rich. Second, it had an unexpected and delicious spice (I think cumin?). I don't know why I assumed it was going to be Taiwanese style but to me it tasted more Northern. The tendons however were not tender so if you want to eat all the good stuff it wasn't quite chewable when I received it. The noodles did seem hand pulled but they were pretty uniform. The dumplings were quite large and were homemade AF. I haven't seen dumplings so wonderfully ungainly and ugly since my cousin tried to make some in 1999. Unfortunately they were also quite pink inside which I know can happen but they looked scary and we will have to eat them later when we can cook them more thoroughly. read more

The food comes out pretty quick, but don't expect service to be phenomenal, as it's only one person taking care of orders, cleaning, etc. Food: Beef Noodle Soup (9/10): The noodles are chewy, and the beef is super tender. The broth is super flavorful. It's perfect for a cold night! Green Onion Pancake (10/10): I'm not a big fan of green onions, but this was delicious.
