We ordered the pork xiao long bao, garlic green beans, fried wontons, chili oil wontons, fried soup buns, and the runny egg custard buns. Everything we got was delicious! My friend and I came here for dinner and we used Yelp to put us on the waitlist. Turns out there were plenty of seats available around 7 pm on a Sunday night *shrug* There were lots of people picking up for Doordash or takeout though! To order, we scanned a QR code and submitted our order without payment. I ordered the vegetable dumpling, veggie noodle soup, and crushed cucumbers. My friend ordered the minced pork noodles (probably the Chinese version of jjajangmyeon) and dumplings. All of the food came out in about 15-20 min. Both my friend and I were disappointed by the lack of flavor in the veggie soup and pork noodles. Luckily, they had condiments on the side so I doused my soup with chili paste and it made it much better. Weirdly enough the soup was literally just noodles and leafy greens. I guess I expected at least tofu or mushrooms in it, having eaten many veggie soups as a vegetarian. The veggie dumplings were so-so; the filling could be better and more flavorful, but I did like the softer tapioca-based wrapper they used. One dish that was made right was the smashed cucumber salad. Despite that, our server was really nice and she even brought us vinegar with ginger when we noticed it wasn't a part of the condiment selection. My companion and I initially planned to eat somewhere else but with the long wait time we decided to seek elsewhere. A quick search on Yelp led us to Dumpling House. I was able to join the Yelp Waitlist while we were driving over which was perfect since we arrived right when they were ready for us! We came on a Friday night and the restaurant was packed with diners--mainly families and small groups. I recommend joining the waitlist ahead. The restaurant is decently sized and clean, and the staff are attentive. We were checked on periodically and our food came out relatively quickly. You order through the QR code on the table. This allows you to view their dumplings, fried dishes, buns, noodles, and appetizers. We ordered: Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Fresh Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, Original Xiao Long Bao, and Pan-fried Turnip Cake. Our favorite was the har gow--plump, juicy, and lightly sweet. The pork xiao long baos were a close second the soup was flavorful and warm, the wrapper delicate, and a juicy filling. The siu mai was plump and well filled and the turnip cake was slightly crispy with a subtle turnip taste to it. Between the two of us, we were able to eat almost everything. My companion describes the dim sum at Dumpling House as solid. It tastes as one would expect but doesn't necessarily blow you away. Regardless, it's scrumptious, the workers are friendly, and it's easy to find in the heart of the Castro District with street parking all around. Side note: Order tea just because it comes in an adorable glass pot with glass cups. The wontons in chili sauce was the best dish that we ordered. It was really flavorful but wasn't that spicy so I was a bit disappointed. The xiao long bao was just okay, the meat didn't have a ton of flavor and neither did the soup. Seafood dumpling was good the shrimp was very snappy and the pan fried buns were decent as well. Overall this restaurant will help you satisfy the Chinese food craving but I wouldn't really come here for dimsum or soup dumplings next time. I decided to try Dumpling House after seeing its 4.5 star rating and hearing several positive remarks. My friends and I arrived with fairly high expectations -- unfortunately, the experience was anything but impressive. The food was okay, but the service was genuinely awful. Our server acted like we were complete idiots for asking which dishes contained pork (one of us is vegetarian -- a perfectly reasonable question). We ordered everything online through our phone as well, so her only actual responsibilities were dropping off the food and handing us napkins -- yet somehow she still managed to be rude and cold every interaction we had. Normally I tip at least 20% to all service people. But after the couple interactions I did have with our waiter I decided against. She did not take our order, was incredibly rude with the couple interactions we did have, and only checked up on us a couple times in the two hours we were there. But that's not the worst part. She demanded a tip. She literally walked up to our table and pressured us after giving us attitude all night. I usually tip 20% without hesitation, but expecting a tip after multiple rude interactions and zero real service is beyond me. I'm not one to write reviews or give feedback, but management at this establishment should be aware because this behavior is unacceptable. read more
