Is this a sister restaurant to Dumpling Home in San Francisco (Hayes Valley)?

Yes it is. They have another sister restaurant opening soon that will follow the naming convention of Dumpling Hxxxx

    Do you need reservations?

No, but there is a paper wait list. It does get quite busy on the weekends!

    Any gluten free options?

If your group cannot eat gluten, don't eat here because it is the kingdom of gluten (dumplings, buns, noodles). If you are dragged here with your gluten eating friends, you could probably get by, by eating rice and vegetable appetizers, but you…

    Are there vegan options?

Yes! Both my daughter and I are vegan. There were quite a couple things to choose from. I highly recommend this place.

It was only…read moreabout 7:50 pm, but I guess Downtown Martinez shuts down a little earlier than I am used to. It's a smallish place, seats less than 40 I think, unless there a hidden room I didn't see. The decor feels like you stepped back to the late 80s. The food was excellent, I was not expecting it. We ordered soup and a couple of different dim sum from their menu. I was kinda expecting some microwaved stuff. To my surprised, it was freshly steamed. Food was great and I learned the owner was a chef in a dim sum restaurant in the south bay before and makes it all himself. I can't rate any of the other things on the menu, haven't tried it. But it does look like your classic American Chinese foods (sweet & sour, broccoli beef, fried rice, fried noodles). They are very nice and we will be back to try some other stuff.

The food arrived lukewarm and lacked freshness (I could've just went to a fast food joint), which was very disappointing. Overall, the quality has noticeably declined, and we will not be returning.

My only minor complaint is that everything came out separately. The green beans arrived about 5-7 minutes before the orange chicken, and the white rice came out after that, so I ended up eating quite a few green beans while waiting for the rest of my meal! That said, everything tasted great and was clearly made fresh. The person who served me was really nice, and the restaurant itself was cool and comfortable, which was especially appreciated on such a hot day. Overall, I had a great experience, enjoyed my meal, and I'm glad I decided to come back.

The meat in the pork bun was so little that I was chewing on dough the first few bites. The bun was pan fried to really crispy though. I expected a bit juice from the meat but it was just a dry bun. We also ordered the steamed vegetable and meat dumpling-they were mediocre and again the filling was tiny. I didn't taste much vegetables in them. I really liked the garlicky sauce on the table. I was a bit disappointed with the food and I remembered the soup dumplings that my friends ordered for take out were good, so I guess maybe I ordered the wrong dish. The staff was really friendly!
