Amazing ambience. Very pretty drinks. Still not sure if it's a gay bar or not but don't care either way

We just stumbled upon this place one evening - and it exceeded our expectations. There is a full cocktail menu and the cocktails are handmade, not batch like I've seen these days. But l got an espresso martini which was off-menu... The vibe is really cool and intimate, there is a bar space and seating for groups. A good spot if you want a break from the rowdier spots. I failed to mention it's underground, hence the name! So nice and cool in the summer or really most of the year in Austin. read more

Great place for date night! They have a lot of intricate drink combos that I have yet to try but my favorite has to be the lavender bee. Their drinks are pricey but pretty standard for austin bars at around $15 dollars a drink. Service is great sometimes, just okay some other times. Ive had multiple good experiences here regardless! Dumont's is one of my favorite bars to go to and I definitely will be back! read more

We ALWAYS NEED these basement, speak easy, jazzy bars in Austin! Right off.. the bar staff are down to earth and friendly. We feel right at home. The music Sways beautifully between French to funk! Drinks are great and priced reasonably. We really had a great time! Absolutely coming back! The. music was low. but this is my first time (VIRGIN!). So I could be wrong! And it was amazing music! Dumont's Down Low is all the vibes!! We absurdly love the dark interior, oversized leather couches and beautiful bar. The drinks are so unique, inventive and carefully crafted. The wine list is great as well, which is great for those who aren't into gin or bourbon drinks, which the menu has a lot of! We've been here a couple of times now, both earlier in the evening and there were only a handful of other people in the bar. The staff has always been super eager to help, and guide you with any suggestions. We love the ambiance for drinks either before, or after a dinner downtown! read more

I'm not typically a "bar" type person anymore but for New Year's Eve, we wanted a place to chill and have drinks. I enjoyed the vibe. The cocktail menu is unique and everybody enjoyed their drinks. The Lavender Bee was tasty along with the Seasonal "Punch". I quite liked the music selection as well. read more

I came here for a bachelorette party and this place was great! It's in a basement so you go down a staircase off 4th street to get in but it's fairly spacious downstairs. They had a lot of bar seating and console couches but the night I went (which was a Saturday) was pretty packed, so we were standing for a while until someone left their couch, and a lot of other people were still standing. I really liked their drinks there; I had the lavender bee which is supposed to be a sweeter cocktail but I could definitely taste the gin so it was pretty strong and took me a while to finish it. The bartender was also really nice and despite the fact it was really busy, they actually were able to make orders pretty quick and by the time we squeezed through the crowd and got to order the drink was made in just a few minutes. Overall I really liked this place and think it's in a great spot on 4th street so you could easily get dinner then come here for drinks! read more

It was quite the scene and busy on a Friday night. We got lucky and found seating. Takes a while to order drinks at the bar but they were nicely prepared. It would be nicer to visit on a slower night to enjoy the ambiance. It's got the energy of a nightclub with the setup of a bar. Didn't feel like a speakeasy though. read more

I wanna be nice and try and disregard all the negative things about this place....but I cannot. They place and the atmosphere are great. The drink are amazing. But the bartenders definitely suck at this place. Trying to order and cash out took way to long, especially when the place is not busy. We went here yesterday to have a couple drinks and the first drink order was easy to get l. The second not so much. We had to ask the guy who cleans up to get the bartenders attention. And when we wanted to cash out at the end of the night it took them 30 minutes to even notice that we were still there. The bartenders were more concentrated on people who are probably regulars or friends. Yeah I'm sorry, it is true you only remember the bad things that happen. But it had to be done. Do better please...you have a good concept, environment and place. But would I come back....probably not. read more

Hip, subterranean bar located in Austin's LGBT district (downtown 4th street). Strangely, there aren't many bars quite like this based on my experience in downtown Austin. It's more of a mature bar as you're more likely to see younger local professionals here rather than the college-aged crowd. On a weekend night, it's typical to see standing-room only. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable and is very conducive to groups. I was able to try a few classic cocktails here on my last visit and they were all quite good. I am a big fan of Manhattans, so I tried their version of one, which I believe was similar to a perfect Manhattan (split sweet and dry vermouth instead of just sweet vermouth) with a different base spirit and it was very good; I would definitely come back again for this. read more

Worst service ever, we walked in with three people to get drinks before an event and sat at the bar. The place was fairly empty. We were there for 10 minutes and still hadn't been acknowledged. We politely asked if we could order and the bartender snapped at us. We weren't feeling the vibe so we went next door to this too shall pass and the drinks were incredible and service was amazing! Very very Racist service. I'm a regular customer and the bartender "white male and blonde female" were very racist and immediately said it's up to our discretionary to not let you in the bar. We all Provided our IDs, but as middle easterners they decided not to provide us the service we expected. Chill underground bar with a dark, sexy appeal and good music. They do not take reservations, so if you plan on going for a visit on the weekend with a large group, I suggest arriving around 8-9 to ensure you get a sitting area with leather couches and side chairs. It is not that big so it does not get too loud and rowdy and we really liked that. Around 11:00, every single seat was taken and it took a little longer to get drinks, but our waitress had been good all night so we really did not have any complaints. Dumont's Down Low, owned by the same folks as several popular bars in Austin such as Mean Eyed Cat & Lavaca Street, opened in the former Irish pub Fado. They have over 70 impressive whiskey offerings and a cocktail menu to impress. Seating consists of a long bar and a lounge area with whiskey barrels as the backdrop. I tried their Old Fashioned with Ben Milam whiskey and it was pure perfection. A great new spot to add to your speakeasy crawl or destination spot for the whiskey lovers. read more

Gorgeous setting, great staff. We loved this place. Their cocktail list is tight, not a lot of fluff. I really like places where you can get a Bourbon/Whiskey/Scotch and just sit and sip. It's such a nice way to try new pours without having to commit to a whole bottle. This is one of the classy places in the downtown Austin bar scene. read more

This place is underrated. It's a below ground level spot that typically decorates for major holidays. Sundays is a good time because it's empty but Friday and Saturday also be lit. It's nice intimate date spot but we way past that but we still be going. read more

This place can be a hit or miss. From music, wait times, and staff it's all really a gamble. My most recent visit was disappointing due to an aggressive and rude bartender. I didn't catch her name, but her attitude was completely uncalled for. My friends and I went to the bar, and when we asked for a mezcal drink her response was, "I don't have mezcal, what else?!" She didn't make recommendations on alternatives or try and find a solution to a simple request. I tried to make conversation with her and she pretended not to hear me. Honestly, I won't be back. Neat space in what I think was the old Fado's cellar. It's dark down here with candles and sparse lighting. They've got a few house cocktails that are twists on some classics, beer and wine is that's what suites you. Long bar with couch seating for different groups and a few high top two's. I like that you can come here and still hear your friends without needing to shout over the din of a bar. Great place to come after a dinner close by or a starting point before you head out. read more

Dumont's is a very lowkey bar. You walk in and immediately go down stairs, hint the name "down low". The walk down the stairs makes the bar feel a bit more like a speakeasy. When first getting there it was not very crowded and the lights were brighter than when we left. As the night went on more people began filling the bar and the lights would dim every so often setting the ambience. The tables are pretty spaced out so you do not feel as though you are sitting right on top of eachother. The music the night I went was classic blues which was very fitting for the bar. I would say the vibes are more for a date night, calm night with friends, or a solo night cap. They have an abundance of whiskey, bourbon, and scotch, as well as a list of specialty cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed my drink and my night there. I will forsure be going back soon. read more
