Stopped by here for a drink and a dessert. I was amazing by how fun the desserts looked. There were desserts in the shape of mushrooms, apples and pears. They each looked perfectly crafted and whimsical. I however decided to go with the truffles, the truffles were 2.99 or 3 for $8. I decided to get 3. I got the strawberry, the pina colada, and the passion fruit lemon. The best thing is that each of the varieties were made in house. I think that is what truly sets this place apart. And plus they were soo delicious. The place itself is pretty small. My husband got the chai latte and said it was good. Wow wow wow. This is the place to go for something sweet in the triangle area. Dulce cafe has incredible pastries, macarons, and desserts to choose from. What sets this place apart is the craftsmanship. Take a look at the photos posted on Yelp and just marvel in the detail in their work. And looks are just the half of it. Carlos, a masterful dessert artist, creates a wide variety of gorgeous and mouth watering temptations. If you want to recapture the wonderment of a child, stand in front of the cake display. Pick anything; you can't go wrong. They have several gluten-free options that I absolutely love (e.g. coconut cake) even though I have no problem with gluten. The carrot cake is so moist and rich. If you like eclairs, you may have to try all of the variations (e.g. pistachio). I have yet to find a pastry shop to compare. Their breakfast options include a parfait with home-made granola or a breakfast burrito with egg and chorizo or a croissant, egg, cheese, avocado and bacon. Great espresso as well. People travel to Dulce from across town, testament to the loyalty of their customers. There is outdoor dining in a covered walkway - a favorite spot for us. I have brought many people to Dulce because I enjoy seeing their reaction to the pastry case. read more

This place was recommended by a friend and we were in the area, so thought we'd drop by. It's located on the corner of a shopping plaza, not much to look at on the outside but a cute little spot overall. Decor was simple and clean, probably intentional to let the product shine. The display case is definitely the star, filled with an array of beautifully designed pastries ranging from cakes to eclairs and tarts. I think the most eye-catching ones would have to be the tarts shaped like various fruit - and impressively so. They're *almost* too pretty to eat. We got: - chocolate mousse cake - Le Poire (the pear shaped tart) - pistachio eclair - iced vanilla latte w/ oatmilk - a couple chocolate confections Everything was pretty good, but the standouts were definitely the Le Poire tart and the pistachio eclair. Least favorite were the chocolates, but that might just be personal preference. The Le Poire was particularly surprising because it wasn't nearly as sweet as one might think, composed of a soft white chocolate shell, filled with this delicious, fresh and bright tasting pear compote, all on top of a caramel-type of tart. I was really pleasantly surprised. The pistachio eclair had more of a firm exterior than expected, but had this rich, super decadent pistachio cream filling that entirely made the dessert. Again, just a touch of sweetness to keep it well-rounded. The vanilla latte looked a little dark, but tasted decent enough and does the job. TL;DR - would recommend the carrot cake, espresso macchiato, and breakfast burrito if it's your first time. It worked out nicely for me. First time trying this place and was quite impressed with the busy but efficient operation behind the counter. Dine in and take out options available... I was in for breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito and a espresso macchiato, but the display case of amazing-looking desserts had me caving into my temptations. Couldn't resist. Breakfast burrito was good, nothing amazing, but I'd definitely get on my next visit. Espresso Macchiato was delicious and strong just how I like it! Would be great to stop here just for a coffee (better than Starbucks and probably faster compared to locations in the area). Now... the carrot cake and "the forbidden fruit" (looked like an apple) I got for when I got back home were the real treat. Carrot cake has raisins and nuts in it (usually not a fan of that) but they somehow made it so I didn't care as the cream cheese juxtaposed with the moist carrot cake made a perfect dessert. The forbidden fruit presentation is the most shocking part... it looks like a real apple, but is hiding a soft cinnamon cake with bits of apple inside. While visiting some friends, we were recommended lunch from this nice café not far from the interstate. It is tucked away in a strip, at the corner, and has a very welcoming look when you walk in. You'll notice the colorful pastries and ice cream available right at the register, and they have meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On this occasion I arrived for lunch, and ordered the Basil-Pesto Chicken Panini, and after waiting a little, my sandwich came wrapped and bagged, since we ordered to go. this was nice sandwich that was far from skimpy. But it had nice flavor, and I didn't need to add anything to help the sandwich. If you're in the area, make a stop and grab a meal. If I visit the area again, I'd try on of their nice looking desserts. read more

Easy 10 stars from me! Thanks to Yelp, I found this gem. It's located in a ritzy area in Durham, just about a mile from the interstate. I've literally never seen such gorgeous desserts in my life! The prices were extremely low as well. We were there for brunch, so we ordered entrees. We also split a blueberry muffin before our meal. It was packed with blueberries and unlike any muffin I'd ever had before. My husband said that it was the best blueberry muffin he'd ever had. He also said that the breakfast burrito was the best he'd ever had too. He's a hard one to please, so this was a win! I had the Cobb Salad, loaded with bacon bits, blue cheese, and tomatoes on the side. The hard boiled egg and avocado were both perfect. It was tossed and drizzled in ranch dressing. The diced chicken that topped it was tasty too. I'm only wishing that I'd have taken some sweets to go. That carrot cake alone has got me dreaming of going back to NC. read more

This place is quickly becoming my regular Saturday spot. Everything about this place is quaint, adorable, well-thought-out and accomodating. It truly is a neighborhood cafe. I come here most often for breakfast and a latte, and love that I can get a savory bacon, egg, and cheese on their fluffy ciabatta at the same time as an iced mocha. By the way, this sandwich easily feeds two and should be split - they thoughtfully package it as two sandwiches. Secondly, it's a great place for an afternoon patio stop. They've got beer, wine, gelato, small desserts, and a dog-friendly patio and staff. I've never felt so welcome! And it's great to have a patio that looks out on calm landscaping with flower boxes and not a busy highway or bland busy parking lot. The inside is also bright and cheery and meticulously clean with plenty of seating and cute art. The dessert case is a spectacle unto itself. In summary, this isn't a cheap budget place, but it has all the basics, well done, in a great atmosphere with great parking and location, and great management. We also love the pistachio gelato. The ambience of this cafe is enjoyable. There is plenty of outdoor seating which is great for COVID. It is not usually too busy, so it is possible to order inside while maintaining social distancing. The staff was super friendly and the cafe was adorable with a case of beautiful desserts. I didn't get to spend as much time browsing what all they had to offer as I was in a rush out to work. Then COVID happened and months went by until I moved closer to the Southpoint area and remembered Dulce, so today we got takeout - we split an Italian panini and got some of the desserts - carrot cake, simple cheesecake, and a couple pistachio macarons. The staff was super friendly again, masks required, tables marked for where you can and cannot sit for distance (if you're eating in), and everything we got was delicious. I found it a little bit pricey, but the quality was very very good. It is one of those places you order at the counter and they bring your stuff out to your table. Dulce Cafe offered great desserts and Great Coffee. We all ordered something and they were all equally good. We had the chocolate cake, carrot cake, Raspberry Pistachio Cake, Eclair, Apple Tart, and Tropical Panna Cotta. The Chocolate Cake was rich and flavorful. It was made with high quality chocolate and just melted when it hit the tip of your tongue. The strawberries on the side paired very nicely with the richness of the chocolate along with the strawberry latte that we got with it. The Carrot Cake was delicious and full of goodness. The pecans and cherries in the carrot cake went perfect with buttery vanilla icing. The hazelnut iced latte also paired very nicely with the Carrot Cake. The Raspberry Pistachio Cake was amazing. The Raspberry and Pistachio flavors complemented themselves very nicely. The dark chocolate shell was also a nice touch. The best drink with this cake was the traditional cappuccino. The Eclair was tradition with vanilla icing and a rich chocolate glaze witch was a big hit with the smaller children who just wanted something Chocolatey and sweet. It was good with a regular Hot Chocolate. The Apple Tart had a very detailed presentation and was extremely good. The apples were covered in a delicious cinnamon glaze and the crust with bits of pecan was amazing. It paired very nicely with the Chai Latte. Last but definitely not least was the Tropical Panna Cotta. It was silky smooth and so delicious with the mango and pineapple compote. He mint was a very good touch also. I envy the cafe girlies. And I suppose after visiting Dulce Cafe, I'm one of them. The entry way is a feast for the eyes as handmade chocolates glittered and glistened. I was beyond tempted to get some but I knew I was there for my first meal of the day. But this place is so freaking sweet, macarons even hang from the ceiling in bottles. I had to snag a pear pastry, which looks so realistic yet is made from chocolate. When I hit it with my spoon underneath was a fluffy vanilla cream and spiced pear base. A flaky crust nestled at the bottom was super tasty. For my meal I got the salmon sandwich, which gave me a lox and cream cheese bagel vibe. New York quality, 10/10. I got a salad as my side which was green and fresh, a bit shocking for a cafe salad. I will come back for some more noshes! read more

Dulce Cafe is a cute local coffeeshop that also serves gelato, macarons, cookies, éclairs, tarts, breakfast items, etc. in addition to coffee. I had intended to get gelato when I was here, but I sampled the mint and rum raisin gelato flavors and they were too sweet for my liking, so I ended up just getting a hazelnut latte. It was refreshing and came in a pretty big glass. They have some outdoor seating and because the weather was so nice (in February!), my friends and I enjoyed our coffee outdoors. I always saw so many people by this cafe, and it is located in this weird mall of health-related businesses for the most part and office space, so it is easy to miss. But right on the corner, is this small cafe that still takes walk ins which is always nice in our COVID world. We wanted just a few desserts to go and the verdict? They looked fancier than they ended up tasting in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, they were pretty good cookies, but for the price point the flavor just didn't line up. They have lots of hot food too which people do rave about, so perhaps I needed to try lunch there, but for me the chocolate cookies were just fine, the little tart was also just so so, but they did look REALLY pretty in the box!
