I ordered dressing ,macaroni and cheese and short ribs and three other dinners .On all of the dinners I ordered the dressing was too sweet the greens and macaroni and cheese was bland and the short ribs did not melt in your mouth. Before you order you may want to ask for samples before placing a nice size order that no one in my party enjoyed!!! This review is about the service, NOT the food. This location has the absolute worst customer service ever! I called during my lunch break while I was in route to the restaurant. I was put on hold several times, over and over again. After I gave the person my order, he tells me that I'd have to wait 25 minutes for my fish to fry. I said "wait , 25 minutes? I thought it was only 15 minutes." He responds with an attitude "you gotta wait for the fish to cook!" At this point I was already 2 minutes away from the restaurant. This has happened to me several times btw. No matter how much earlier in advance I call, the outcome remains the same. The only reason why I've put up with this for so long is because it's a black establishment that I'd like to support and I also like their sides ( especially the Mac and corn bread.) However, enough is enough! Places like Chick Fil A and Nordstrom have amazing customer service. I wish I could personally speak to the owner so that I can tell him how unpleasant the service is. I hate to give this place a bad review. We frequent all the locations but this particular location is not up to standard. Ever since the Covid-19 restrictions they've fallen off. You order outside and you wait to pick up food outside, and all in terribly long, slow moving lines. They are also using smaller serving containers. And to make matters worse, we can't see the food being prepared anymore so they give you even LESS food and possibly the wrong food. I have gone 3 times in the last 4 months and the servings sizes we're disappointing. I didn't get gravy once and cornbread on another occasion. The food is still tasty and they are Black owned so I'll give them more opportunities, but improvements need to be made. Okay it's not the nicest place and it's not in the nicest area. They only have a few tables and service is hit and miss. But the food. The food is good. I have it on good authority from residents that this is the go to spot for soul food in the area. There are other soul food restaurants around but people tell this is the one you want to go to. I've only been once and I will be coming back. We had the yams , collard greens, mac and cheese, meat loaf , fried chicken , corn and okra and corn bread. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again is the meat loaf. It was average. Everything else is good. The mac and cheese is really cheesy the way I like. Like almost swimming in cheese. This location is horrible. They absolutely don't know what they are doing. Everybody has to check their order before they leave to make sure its correct. They take too long to take orders, they take too long to deliver the orders. They run out of food on regular. The person at the pick up window calls the number and then leaves people standing at the window waiting for them to come back. What kind of business are you running? Your charging us dinner prices but we're not getting quality service or food. There should be an abundance of food and maybe they need to hire more people to provide better service to the customers. This review is less about the food quality and more about their customer service and lack of organization. I purchased 3 Thanksgiving specials with an additional large side. Placed this order 2 days prior (on the 23rd). I arrived at 12:50 pm to a long line of people waiting on their online orders. After a 90 minute wait, I was given a completely wrong order, gave it back and had to wait another 90 minutes for the correct order. Pick up process was very unorganized. They were calling out numbers "as they were being prepared" (shouldn't online orders be READY to pick up? That's why I ordered online!) They called numbers of people that were not there yet, others were waiting an hour or longer for their number to be called. There was a line cook who came out to a crowd of unhappily patient customers who made it a point to say, "I'm not unprofessional, I'm a line cook!"... basically being unprofessional as she proclaimed it with an attitude. Another concern of mine was the lack of social distancing and their unwillingness to encourage it. There were so many people crowded around the door waiting for their orders! The bright light were the people I was waiting with. We all bonded and cheered for each person who finally got their order. The security guard (didn't get his name) was pleasant and tried to help. Although the portion size was great the flavor was lackluster. I ordered the beef ribs with Mac and cheese and collard greens with peach cobbler. The only delicious part of the meal was the cornbread. The food was incredibly bland. My grandmother and I spent almost $50 for lunch that wasn't worth it at all. Currently regretting the calories. I had better soul food, today was the first time I ever went to Dulan's the one located on Century and the food wasn't all that. I had meatloaf, supposed to be homemade dressing, and Mac and cheese. The meatloaf was hard, not the type of meatloaf I'm used to, my mom can make better, the dressing was boxed dressing it wasn't anything homemade about it, and it was sweet and if it was homemade than it was made from jiffy cornbread mix and umm no I don't like dressing that that taste like boxed cornbread or like boxed dressing and the mac and cheese was just ok. I had heard numerous thing regarding this restaurant mainly from my aunt. In her opinion, the food is good. I went to the location on Century Blvd just west of Crenshaw. I am, what I'd like to call a "connoisseur of all things soul food". The restaurant is very conveniently located. The parking lot is fairly clean although the was this monstrosity of car that sat in the parking lot for a very long time making the surroundings look less than desirable. The entrance door of the restaurant faces the street and the front of this location is about 70% glass so everything is exposed making it viable from the passersby on the street. The inside of the establishment was clean and neat and the staff was polite and professional. The offer a variety of soul food items including greens, beans, macaroni and cheese, short ribs, smothered meats (with gravy), and chicken. I had the short ribs, mac-n-cheese, greens and a soft drink. I had been anticipating tasting this meal for quite some time. I must say, the food was okay or fair. It wasn't anything to write home to mama about. There just wasn't enough seasoning. I probably wouldn't go there again. But the experience was worthwhile because of all the hype I'd heard about them. There were about 6 ppl in line in front of me but I was quickly told by another customer that "this wait isn't bad, sometimes the line is out the door". Wow.. I can see why, like I said they are consistent with flavor and offer a good variety of items. My husband and I both got smothered fried chicken (because he didn't want to share) and got different sides. I like their Mac n cheese.. my family makes ours different and I'm a lil torn at how yellow it is but the flavor and texture are good.. must be velvita. The yams are always good as well.
