Food was AMAZING! Lots of soul here, but lacking in service. *sigh* Considering the southern roots. Positives: Ox tails, YES! Fried chicken (dark meat), absolutely YES! Mac and Cheese (southern style)... thank you sweet baby Jebus, YASSS! Corn bread.... *Drooling* lol If you're looking for soul and large southern portions, this is the place to go! Negatives: Called to place a relatively large order (5 plates/over $100) and was told they wouldn't take the order due to it being an hour til closing even after offering to prepay. I arrive, line is out the door, staff yelling at people to move away from the exit door, was forced (for lack of a better phrase at the moment) into getting more food on my plate because that's what came with the meal. I didn't want all that food when it would and did just go to waste. Ordered gravy on the side and didn't get it. Food negative: Please, please, please... do not call what you're serving Peach Cobbler. Tasted like it had been sitting in the back of a refrigerator for weeks. Eek! Today I was disappointed with the customer service I received at this Dulans location. After buying four family meals and two additional sides of dressing I was given one small container of gravy. After requesting additional gravy they declined and even the manager said he could not provide that. I have supported this business for years and I was so disappointed with their inability to provide good customer service.This year the family meal price went up five dollars and you get one less side and I they still would not give extra gravy. I pride myself and supporting black businesses but this kind of customer service makes it challenging. read more

Arrived approx 10 min before opening . My husband had to wait in the line OUTSIDE of the restaurant for 25 minutes until he was finally able to order ( ordered OUTSIDE as well ) . He then had to wait in a second line for them to place the food on a table & walk away ( as they did everyone else ) . My husband asked for a cup of iced water when he was finally able to order ( after spending $27 on one plate of food & almost 30 minutes in line ) & he was told "they gone give you something to drink" . This was my second option as the first option D's soulfood kitchen was closed ( better pricing , options , customer service as well as QUALITY! ) Haven't been here in years and THIS IS WHY . First time coming here and food was great. It just sucks that social distancing and masks weren't really practiced at this place. I literally had to tell people and put my arm length wise to let them know to keep their distance. You all probably don't care but I do so I won't be coming to this place until COVID is over cause people are way too irresponsible here. Came here after googling soul food restaurants while visiting Los Angeles. This food is super good! I usually eat a lot and couldn't even finish my plate. The people working were all friendly and it's free refills on drinks. More of a to go restaurant instead of sitting down and eating. The dressing taste just like my grandma's. The only reason not for 5 stars is because some of the conversations we heard from the workers weren't things you should be saying around customers. If I come to LA again I for sure will be back and will tell all of my people in LA to try this place out! read more

My wife and I ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered the short ribs with yams and black eyed peas. My wife ordered the pork chops with mac and cheese and greens. Needless to say, we will not be spending our money on this garbage in the future. The short ribs were bland and tasteless. They were served over rice and gravy, and there was a disproportionate amount of rice compared to the gravy. It was a mess. My wife's pork chops were bland and well. If you are in the mood for soul food, "don't waste your time or money going to Dulan's. Ever since the owner passed, it is missing the quality standards necessary for returning customers. I am utterly disappointed that I wasted $23 on this. I called to place a to-go order and a sweet older lady answered the phone. She told me there wasn't a line and to just come right on in, so I did. I chose oxtails and rice, mac n' cheese, cabbage, and black eyed peas w/ cornbread. My sister got fried and smothered chicken, mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes, and yams w/ cornbread as well. This was our first time here so we were kind of excited to try everything. Once we arrived home and tried the food we were both so let down. Everything had a sour taste to it. That is the best way that I can describe it. The oxtails were very tender, but the flavor was so off putting. The mac n' cheese was soggy and sour as well. Seems like too much velveeta cheese is used and not enough shredded cheese. Cabbage wasn't sour, but it was greasy w/ no seasoning. Black eyed peas were under seasoned as well. I also tried my sister's food. The mashed potatoes were salty, the yams were canned and overly sweet. The only thing that was okay was the chicken and smothered chicken. Even the cornbread was a let down. And now I have a nasty aftertaste in my mouth. I would love for them to take more time to get back to classic recipes. Short cuts are cool, but not when it affects the quality of the food. Huge portions does not make up for the lack of taste. This is not Soul Food. Really good food ... lines get long and there is a bit of a wait ... employees get confused some times and give the wrong food ( which is a total bummer) luckily everything there is good ... parking sucks especially on a Sunday food is definitely 5 stars but I gave 3 because of the overall experience .... They didn't give forks ,spoons or napkins in the bag .... as one customer said what are we to eat with are hands ? I come here pretty often but mainly on Sundays... Parking is crazy! Park on the street if you can... The Sunday special is superb... You get an entree, rice and gravy or corn bread dressing... Choice of two sides... Dessert... Keep in mind if you get the peach cobbler as your dessert it's in a tiny container... Get a slice of cake in stead... The special also comes with Raspberry ice tea or lemon tea... The staff are friendly at times... It's quite a wait on most days especially on Sundays... I don't ever write reviews, but I've been going for years because it's close convenient and the food isn't horrible, but 80% of the time I have issues with service, but my LAST visit tops the cake. My sister and I ordered food at 7 we tried calling it in around 5 but they wouldn't accept it. and this location was closed at 8. We ordered our food after waiting in line and began noticing everyone else getting food besides us, people that came right at closing got their food before us. So finally security asked us about our order and checked our receipt, come to find out they never properly input the order or whatever happened. However we did have a receipt. They were already cleaning up putting away food. After I ordered those special lemonades (which the cashier spilled almost half passing it through the window, claiming you guys ran out of LIDS, STRAWS and ICE! ) I even tipped at the cash register because I like to support small black businesses, but you guys definitely have better employee training or something. The breast are hella dry, which breast can be sometimes if you don't watch how long you cook them which is why I ordered it with gravy to compensate and the collard greens taste terrible. I repeated my order twice and it's still wrong and the female staff stay with an attitude for no reason. Your staff make it hard to continue to support a black business.
