I should've rated them sooner. I've eaten at a few Dulan's locations and this one has great food and service just like I've come to expect. Whenever I've called, the ladies have been sweet. I usually order the baked chicken lunch and it's delicious every time. Their baked chicken is so flavorful and moist but also cooked thoroughly. I love it. Sunday, June 20, 2026, I ordered oxtails , yams and cornbread dressing. The food was horrible and very salty! Didn't even get the yams. Called Dulans, their response is come back and get them. No regards for your time or gas. I paid extra for extra gravy and asked for cranberry sauce. When I checked. There was no c4anberry sauce nor gravy. I don't know how this place stays open. The service at this location is terrible. They make you wait a very long time for food that's already cooked. You have to go to multiple areas one to order your food the other on the other side of the building to pick up your food. I'm just a cracker from the Midwest, who was raised on southern cooking & soul food and Dulan's is fantastic. They always have a line outside and there's a good reason for that because their food is great, their employees are excellent and they can turn over a big line quickly. Really wish they had a sit down restaurant with the southern theme, but at least they got some quality food that can take me there in my mind. I recommended Dulan's to my companies 'people team' who put on our Black History Month breakfast, but unfortunately, they don't open that early. However, when I was pitching them, I was able to talk a few new people into going over and trying it and I really want to get it for a happy hour one day soon. Had a taste for Dulan's drove from Orange county to this location! Thought I would try again after picking up my smothered pork chop lunch to find 1 whole and half of a pork chop in my order! Disappointed! This visit I made a point of checking brought it to the cashier attention who stated oh yeah your missing a pork chop! My recent short-rib dinner purchase for $31.70, no drink included, was anything but pleasant. They used to give you two proper serving of the shot-rib; now it's one skimpy serving sliced down the center flaked with rice and gravy. As one of my sides I ordered black-eyed peas. It came in a separate container consisting of 90% rice with 10% peas on top of it. I DID NOT ORDER RICE. They used the rice as a FILER. for $31.70, I feel like I've been robbed! Met up with a friend for lunch. Today was especially busy because it was the grand opening I arrived earlier and saw valet or street parking available. After I parked, I followed the aroma of food which led me to the line for ordering. I also noticed an area for take out which is located on the outside side of the building. The line to order done in moved quickly between the two cashiers. You can view the food menu on the kiosk located above the order station. I tried to use my Apple pay but for whatever reason it didn't accept so I paid with my bank card. I received a number to place for the server to bring your food to the table. The love the open kitchen where diners can view the food preparation. The floor tiles and walls were warm and inviting like a being at someone's home. I love the family history and community photos on the walls. Once you get a table number, find a table for the servers to bring your food with the option seating either indoors or on the heated patio. I also saw another outside area at the back of the restaurant where there was live music. The restrooms are located near the back of the restaurant. The table and chairs reminds me of a café with spacious seating and gathering space for a large event. My food arrived to my table by server Micheal about seven minutes from the time of order. Leonard, also stopped my table to make sure I had what I ordered was correct. Later when my friend arrived and needed her food warmed up, Christian, the GM took care of it and also stopped by to check on us. Lots of great customer service and personal attention. The food was fresh and in large portions. I had the fried fish with a big mason jar of cold sweet tea/ lemonade, red beans/rice, and streamed cabbage (to peppery for me) so I change for collard greens to go with best corn muffins. We could end the day without house-made sweet potato pie. The kitchen did a great job. It was so much to absorb but enjoyed the day. We had a blast and will be back for more. read more

I called Dulan's to place an order, but was told I couldn't order over the phone because they were short-staffed. I was reassured it wasn't crowded, so I went in person. Once there, I waited patiently behind one customer before placing my order: baked chicken, greens, rice and gravy, and string beans. While waiting, another customer had music playing so loudly they couldn't hear their number being called--twice--which made the atmosphere a bit chaotic. When I got home, I was disappointed with the meal. The baked chicken didn't seem fresh, as if it wasn't made that day. The greens were undercooked, the rice and gravy were dry, and the string beans were just okay. Surprisingly, the best part of the meal was the muffins. On Friday November 21st 2025. Our order arrived early so I spoke with the driver and let them know that we couldn't accept it because we couldn't keep it warm I also spoke with someone at the restaurant they said no worries we'll bring the order back at the time that you requested. They arrived the driver helped us bring the food in and helped unpacking the food. I explained that I was unable to tip her she said no worries this is my job. I told her that I would hire her if she ever needed a job. We ordered 80 lunches individually packed everything arrived piping hot and delicious my group was more than joyous enjoying this delicious food from this restaurant. Dulan's Century Blvd.: A Disappointing Replacement for Bertha's I've been a dedicated Dulan's customer for nearly 30 years, Brunch & Lunch the Crenshaw location and even the Inglewood spot, when Crenshaw was only doing catering. I had never eaten at the 1714 W Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90047 location, which used to be Bertha's Soul Food Cafe. But we were in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, this was a huge mistake. The smothered short ribs were a complete disappointment. Instead of the tender, fall-off-the-bone classic, I got two thin, Korean-style slices swimming in a watery, beige gravy. The red beans were practically nonexistent - literally 2 table spoons of beans over a cup of rice, and the entire meal felt like a pale imitation of what Dulan's used to be. The only saving grace were the candied yams. At over $25, this meal was a total rip-off. I'm heartbroken to say that I can no longer recommend Dulan's. As far as I am concerned they can shut Dulan's down because that s*** is nasty. I've eaten there 3 times in my life and I am 70 years old. Each time was a bust. Dulan is old enough to know what real OG soul food tastes like. These people at these restaurants kill me, they stop using pork, they don't use much salt, they just take out everything that makes soul food soul food. On sunday bought my mom a chicken dinner. It was served with a dessert, she chose sweet potato pie. When my daughter saw the pie she asked the man who gave her the order. Honestly I don't see the reason why there's 3 stars but for me this place is legit. Yeah the wait can be a little long and the service isn't always great. The quality of soul food is incomparable. My go to is the smothered chicken(usually go with the white meat) and mashed potatoes / macaroni and cheese for the sides. The chicken and the gravy are a match made in heaven not too salty but perfectly seasoned. The sides are always tasty especially the Mac (not runny but baked to perfection) there isn't much space to sit and eat so you're better taking it to go. I guess if you're not from there you don't know what to expect hence the 3 stars. But please don't let uneducated reviewers stop you from trying so great soul food. read more
