Ally is the sweetest woman I ever met in my life, she also makes the best spicy margarita in Massachusetts. Marshfield is lucky to have her.

We started with 6 raw oysters which were a buck a shuck and you were allowed only 6 at that price which was fine. I forgot to take a photo, my apologies. They were on the small side but very tasty. Next we shared the crispy Brussel sprouts which had been recommended to me by 3 people and they were outstanding! I opted for a single crab cake as I wasn't that hungry and it was so yummy. He had the everything bagel pan seared tuna bowl. It sat on top of amazing kind of Asian noodles of which I tasted and they too were delish. So here's the not so nice part.. the place was SO NOISY I could not really enjoy my meal. I will have to wait and try to find a quieter time to go.. that may beca while as the summer crowd is just coming into town! I would have given it 5 stars!! read more

We've made a couple return visits to Dukes Beach House after giving them a try a few weeks ago. We apparently picked a Sunday evening after an incredibly busy weekend. Many items on the menu were not available. The server was great and she listed the items unavailable before we made our choices. Food was good, drinks were good, and service was good. Why 3 stars? The place was inundated with flies. Understandable with the wide open windows and doors but having this amount of flying insects in a restaurant was distracting and really took away a lot of the enjoyment associated with having a an evening out. Hopefully more items will be available from the menu next time we visit. We''ll probably wait until cooler weather arrives so we're not spending as much time swatting insects flying around.... read more

They had no record of our reservation and could not accommodate us despite half the restaurant being empty. Zero empathy from the hostess. We have been going to Dukes since they opened and have loved it. However the last 2 times have been horrible. Spilled drinks, no ice water, slow service or no service. The 4 of us had our meals come out at 4 different times. We were in the restaurant for 2 and a half hours and could not get the waitress to bring our bill! Such a cool beach vibe place! I joined some of my family and friends to celebrate a birthday and it was my first time here. Looking around it's got a large bar and a good amount of seating. They had their large windows open as well which gave the vibe of outdoor seating. The food itself was excellent! The table got the buffalo wings and cornbread with honey butter and I got a cup of clam chowder for appetizers. For someone who doesn't really like buffalo in general I gave a wing a try and these were delicious!! These were bone in, perfectly cooked and had such a nice spice that was addicting. These were more glazed on as well as opposed to being drenched in sauce. The clam chowder had great flavor and seemed to have a taste of rosemary in it which was a nice little change to a traditional chowder. The cornbread was good and wasn't too sweet with the honey butter. To the entrees, everyone enjoyed their meals and had a combination of salads and burgers. I got their Fillet Frites which was cooked perfectly and had nice and crisp truffle fries. Used to love Dukes and I have written them a positive review before, but after our recent visit they need to step it up. We had a reservation, but upon arrival, the host stand told us they were busy and asked us to wait for a minute which is totally understandable. Because it is so tight, we said we would wait right outside. We waited, but nothing happened and no one came out. When we finally went back inside to check, they said Oh, we just need to clean X table and it will be a minute. Great we thought. We went outside, watched the table be cleaned, waited and nothing. We finally went back in and the host said Oh, yes, we can seat you now. Once we were seated, it took a bit for our server to greet us. She was very nice, she took our drink order, was surprised we had no water and said someone would be by to fill them for us. It took a bit to get the drinks, but when she came back and saw we still had no water, she said she would get someone. She took our appetizer order and main meal and she was gone. No water. When a table next to us was sat and the server brought over water for them, we waited and then asked if we could get some. Sure she said but we never saw her or water after that. Finally, a bus boy was cleaning a table near us. We waited and asked for water. He brought some and ended up pouring a decent amount on my foot and had no clue that he did it (and did it again the second time we asked for a refill). 37 minutes after being sat, we finally had water. And yes, we needed and wanted water. We did not see our server again until after the food was delivered. While kitchen pacing can sometimes be at fault, as a former server and bartender for years, a server needs to advocate for their table. Because she vanished, she never caught the timing issues--our appetizers were delivered at the literal same time as our main courses and our drinks had been empty for a bit before that. After finishing our meal, we had to wait to get her attention and then it took a bit to get the to-go boxes. I gave her my card when she returned so I could cash out without her vanishing again. This place is not cheap, and you expect a certain level of attentiveness for these prices. The server was friendly during our few interactions, but the totality of the night resulted in a bad experience, and we see from the reviews that we are not the only ones. The location and food are really good. They need to listen to the reviews and step up their game on the rest. We will be back because we love to support local businesses, but we will likely just go for drinks and maybe an appetizer until they figure it out. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Dukes last night and it was the worse meal I have ever had. I ordered the chicken schnitzel, what I received was a piece of shoe leather instead of chicken. It was hard to cut and even tougher to chew. The Brussels sprouts were also dried out and difficult to cut. My husband had the fish and chips. The extremely small piece of fish was covered in batter and had an unpleasant taste and texture. The French fries were covered in a spicy seasoning , but we ate them since the meals were disgusting . My husband had to ask the waitress to return his cocktail as something was soured with the mixes. The flies were out in abundance and had to keep swatting them away. This was not our first visit at Duke's , but will be our last, diners beware! read more

Unfortunately, this is not working out. I used to love this place and I ate here almost every week ... but I haven't had a good meal here the last 5-6 times I've ordered. My brussel sprouts are coming *very* undercooked (crunchy/hard) with completely new ingredients that are not listed on the menu. So I was served warm, but uncooked sprouts tossed with tons and tons of banana peppers ?? And goat cheese. Nothing else. They used to actually serve smash burgers, too. They still advertise it but if you order it its just a regular burger and its SOPPING wet. I cant pick it up and eat it because the bun is sooo soggy and all the ingredients just fall out over and over. Nobody wants burger soup. Truffle fries used to be ridiculously good and now they're way too dry. Not sure what happened here but I think I've given it enough second chances & I'm done. 2 stars because the servers/hostesses are nice. read more

Pretty good spot if you're looking for a low-key, post beach meal. It was incredibly loud in there - many people around us asked to close the garage doors and the barriers because of the noise. The drinks were great - Margarita was delicious and good beer selection. You can't beat $1 oysters, either. The corn bread however is simply not good. It was like it was frozen then heated up - the consistency is so so off. It reminded us a lot of bread pudding. It was saturated with butter and that was the only saving grace to eating a bite. The smash burger was good with great truffle fries. The lobster roll was small but tasty. Two tables near us get up and left for lack of service after sitting down and no one came to take their drink orders. Sadly, it wont be on our list to come rushing back to eat at. read more

We thought we would check out Dukes Friday night because it has a nice beach vibe. The evening was a disaster and we were so disappointed. We didn't have a reservation but we're told we could be added to the wait list, which we did. When it was more than an hour and we had not been seated we checked in only to find out that we had been removed from the waiting list. The hostess confused us with another couple, they never apologized, proceeded to argue with us and told us it would be another 30 minutes. Finally they got us a table, if we hadn't been so hungry we would have left. Our waitress was horrible, she took our drink and food order which included appetizers and never came back to check in on us. She went by our table multiple times and never asked if we received the appetizers. Our food finally came out and our appetizers were delivered after the fact. There were tables around us that were getting much better service than us. We started to wonder if this has anything to do with what happened at the hostess station. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service is horrible, the food is alright, and the staff is unwelcoming and not very friendly. Excellent looking dishes on the menu. Wanted to order one of everything! I started with the lobster bisque special and it had the most lobster of any bisque ever! Delectable! The stuffed pretzel with braised short rib was excellent. My friend Jen and I could not finish it! My island mule drink was the best mule I've ever had. Quite tasty. I'll be back for sure. Went for brunch on a sunny March Saturday. Bloody Mary was deliciously garnished with bacon as well as the usual garnishes. We tried the $1 Duxbury oysters, breakfast sandwich, chicken and waffles, and smash burger. Service was friendly, efficient and the food was yummy. A short and brisk walk on the beach followed. Been a few times, the food is outstanding, clean, innovative, delicious and well prepared. Service is good, we usually sit at the bar. It's a nice little beach place, makes me think of the Gurnet Inn. (But that's irreplaceable) Anyways, the buck a shuck is going to run out, that's the point. it's a deal for fresh oysters. So if you're so desperate, go somewhere else and pay the going rate, which is 3x as much. Korean cauliflower, Tuna poke, Swordfish, Risotto, Mussels And buck a shuck on Saturday at 8, Duxbury oysters, got em. It's a gem of place that we should support especially in the winter sans tourists. And the drinks! Especially the tequila cocktails and a really good super tuscan. Try something different, you'll be pleasantly surprised, i have looked at the menu and been unsure, saw a dish go by, asked, ordered and loved it. Trust!! Cheers Dukes. So my family and I were excited about finally getting to try Dukes. Unfortunately, the food was not the only problem. I'm not sure how the board of health hasn't been notified about the unusual amount of flies in the dinning room. Dozens and dozens of flies. They were everywhere and on every surface. It was gross. On top of that paying $35 for 5 scallops was a joke. We made the mistake and ordered the cornbread. We should have read the other reviews about the cornbread. It was not good at all. Bottom line, if you feel like swatting flies off your food and over paying for basic run of the mill food, dukes is your spot. read more

service was great. I frequently dine her at least once a week minimum. the food has always been fresh spectacular. I feel one chef maybe be a little better then thee other. I must say I paid 45$ for a lobster roll hot style. the bun was burnt to a crisp and black. inside was three small claws and that's it. very disappointing to be honest. bill was still 200 dollars with zero alcohol ordered. again usually my favorite spot but 45 for a lobster roll with basically a small spoon full of hot lobster nothing else 45 seems a bit much. 45 dollar lobster roll at green harbor pound would feed two people for the small roll and still cheaper.not the type to send things back but came very close. We went in for lunch one day and sat at the bar. The service was excellent along with the food and drinks, we got the brussels sprouts which I'm still dreaming about and the chicken sandwich. This is my first review I felt was necessary to write. Dukes Restuarant was amazing. It is set in a house in the Brant Rock area of Marshfield MA. My server Ally was exactly what you would hope for from a kind waitress. I had steak and eggs for breakfast. At a beautiful wooden bar that you wouldnt expect. They also have plenty of dining tables, :). The experience was amazing. Music, food, setting absolutely perfect. I left there feeling like I had the best experience. Definitely worth your time. First and last time here. Had the cornbread with honey butter for an appetizer. It was okay, but definitely not over the top. For my meal, I had the fish and chips, which were actually old bay fries. I don't mind old bay but I didn't expect each one of the fries to be completely covered in old bay. They were inedible. As far as the fish goes, it was good, but a 4" square piece of fish left me starving, especially since I couldn't eat the fries. The meal was definitely not worth the $28 they charged. The other people I was with were okay with their meals but nothing to rave about. After waiting for an unusually long time to get our meals, we had to again wait for the waitress to come back when we finished our meal. I think we sat for 30-45 minutes for her to come check on us. We finally had to ask the hostess to please get our waitress and send her over. When she came she had some excuse that she had to help a lady that was going to faint at the bar. She must have been helping her for a really long time I guess. I complained about the fries when she finally came back and she offered to get me more. We were all done eating and wanted to leave, so I said no to the fries. I thought maybe she would have made an adjustment on the bill since she took away a plate full of French fries that were inedible, but that didn't happen. So lousy service, way overpriced for what you get, too small a parking lot, and not a place I will go back to. read more

The first time we went the food was amazing but my husband got severe food poisoning. We decided to give it another chance. We were seated right away next to a "clean" table, but the floor was trashed and there were flies literally everywhere- the floor, on the "clean" table, and all over the mirror behind it. At first we ignored because we figured it was because the windows were so open, but then we looked around and noticed we were the only people swatting flies left and right. I brought this to the hostess' attention, and she went to get her manager immediately. Instead of coming over to speak to us, she blatantly ignored us while clearly talking about us to her staff. She then sent a server over to clean the area, but the server used BLEACH as we were trying to eat our appetizer. When we asked the server to cash out because of the flies, the manager again ignored us blatantly. What a horrible customer server experience. read more

Just dined at Dukes on Saturday with my wife. Really great addition to the community in Marshfield. Bright and airy with a porch in front that has huge open windows. Nicely decorated perfectly in tune with the location just a few steps from the beach. We had oysters, tuna nachos, and swordfish, all freshly prepared and delicious.
