Chicken Enchiladas on top and the bolognese on the bottom, delicious!!!

NEW MENU and NEWLY RENOVATED! My husband and I have been coming to Galley for years. With the recent changes, we have already tried more than half the menu. My favorites so far are the Gringo (ground beef) Taco, Birria Taco, Veggie Taco, Mixed Greens with Gringo, Tuna Tostado and of course the wings! You can't go wrong. And you can't forget the staff!!! Bartenders are amazing (shout out to Kate, Casey, Katherine, and Billy!)

The steak taco, fish taco and the steak taco have little flavor. They look delicious but lack in flavor. The chorizo hamburger was good and flavorful. The guacamole, salsa and chips are good.

Our must stop place in Scituate, especially for the $1 oysters during Happy Hour! It is closing the end of the year, scheduled to reopen in March due to remodeling.

First trip for dinner, I didn't like Galley. Snagged two seats at the raw bar, which felt abandoned and only staffed when shellfish were ordered. A half dozen oysters were ours, and most had chips, grit and no liquor. Fried oyster and pulled pork sliders were dry and bun-disintegrating wet, respectively. But something brought us back! It's just too damn inviting, and the menu (esp for brunch) was too tempting. So we returned, and found the open air seating - and the duck hash and eggs - to be excellent. Unfortunately, brunch is no longer served! Egads. Thankfully... We popped in for game 7 of the Stanley Cup (spoiler: we lost), and had an outstanding pile of pulled pork nachos, and a baller Widowmaker Sens Lives session IPA. Meaty Gold Fever wings (honey mustard/BBQ sawce) were a steal at 50c a piece. It may have been a special menu, but methinks Galley has found its rhythm in the kitchen. With a killer local beer list and a crazy comfortable atmosphere, it's back in our heavy rotation.

Whereas some grabbed mountains of nuggets, I have the guy grabbing 7 nuggets, and a plate of 7 condiments in those little ramekins. Yeah... to say I adore dips is an understatement. Therefore, when I decided to return to Barrel House Z and saw Just the Dip was visiting, my decision was signed, sealed, and delivered. Frankly, given the name I would have expected more dips! I was given one with my nachos, and it was mild, savory, and pleasant, but otherwise unremarkable. Meanwhile I expected a whole other menu, kind of like Saus has. So, let me then tell you about the chicken nachos. It had several things going for it, but the execution wasn't there to inspire a return visit. The chicken had good flavor, and wasn't overly sauced. The chips were a delightful, industrial strength model that didn't crumble under the weight of the ingredients. Where it comes to veggies, the tomato and onion seemed to be little chunky for the application. The real trouble is with the cheese - it seemed like a quarter teaspoon of a crumbly cheese that made it only a corner of a single chip! Almost like they started to put some on, and changed their minds at the last second. Cheese is essential to nachos! It is not only awesome on its own, but is also the medium that holds everything together! Thus, while $15 for a filling portion of nachos is reasonable, the meal felt unfinished and unrefined. Plus, I would have really hoped for more dips and/or dip options.

The food was delicious, and service was quick. The crunchy falafel on a bed of pickles and tomatoes was in a thick wrap, more like naan. It was served with a generous portion of hummus. First visit: loud, packed and a bit chaotic for a Tuesday night, my surf and turf of slightly overcooked rosemary turkey tips and tender fried clam strips (wha?!) were still nicely seasoned, and sided by blanched and buttered green beans. Huge side salad with pumpernickel croutons. My campy frozen cocktail with way too much whipped cream was served spilling over itself. It was collegiate, at best, and the easily frazzled FOH couldn't keep up with the madness. Second visit: Sunday early lunch. Beautiful weather had us harborside beneath a sprawling umbrella on their spacious dock. Cape Cod Reuben ($12) is clean cod, fried and topped with crunchy slaw, Swiss and thousand island on toasted marble rye. Opted for a side Caesar ($3 upcharge) and was really, really pleased with the entire meal. Parents, take note: crayons and coloring pages are provided, but there are no dedicated kid's plates. In lieu of this, family friendly options are noted on the standard menu. The prevalent note is that service was stretched in both occasions, and with a fairly young staff, I can understand how this could be frustrating. I went with a friend for lunch yesterday (Thursday), and after trying pretty much all of the major restaurants in the Hingham/JNorwell/Cohasset area, this restaurant was clearly at the top of my list. We were served the Wagyu Beef Sliders and the Bacon & Carmelized Onion Arancini for appetizers, and the Pulitzer Short Rib Burger and Norwell Hot Chicken Sandwich for entrees. I say that we were "served" those things because we actually ordered the Bavarian Pretzels and not the Wagyu Beef Sliders, but because the sliders were so delicious, we figured that we'll try the pretzels on the next go around. All four of our dishes were absolutely fantastic. The sliders and arancini were absolutely top-notch. I've had so many average arancini that I forgot what it's like when cooked at a high-level. It's as good as any I've had anywhere. And the Pulitzer Burger is now my favorite burger ever. Just the right amount of char on the outside with the inside a perfect medium. The chicken was moist with fantastic seasoning. The unexpected surprise were the fries. The fries here are outstanding. And they achieve something that I've never seen anywhere else: their fries are "pillowy". They are crispy on the outside, but the inside is remarkably moist and fluffy. I'd have to categorize these as steak fries, but steak fries are usually a bit denser. Service was terrific, and the decor of the place is not "dated", as another reviewer commented. The place was clearly built to give off a classic and intimate vibe. I didn't try any of the fish offerings this time, but I plan on returning and checking them out. It blows my mind that I never heard of this place until a few days ago.

Unfortunately, the service felt rushed and somewhat impersonal. Our waitress was responsive when she was at the table, but she tended to disappear for long periods of time. As for the food, it was honestly just average. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and I'm sad to report it was a disappointment. The hollandaise was cold, the eggs were over-poached, the English muffin only was toasted on one side and the hash browns lacked flavor. Even the coffee I ordered with my meal arrived lukewarm. Surprisingly, the best part of the experience was the Bloody Mary I had at the start of the meal. Maybe the the food would be better during lunch or dinner service. I might give them another try in the future and hope for a better experience.
