We wanted to go to Salt Society but it was an hour wait so we ended up here. Everything was fine except the food. My mom ordered the special which was risotto + scallops. The risotto was ... not risotto. It was really just rice. She was disappointed. I ordered the clam chowder. Worst clam chowder I've ever had. Didn't even taste like clam chowder. My sister got the poutine and did not like it. I had a bite of her food and I also didn't like it. The fries were incredibly bland. My dad liked his meal! He got the shepherds pie. I'm bummed we didn't like our meal because I was so excited about all the gluten-free labels. Ambiance was great, waitress was great, but the food did not taste good. read more

This was a new spot for us to try, and maybe it has a chance to improve. The service was a bit slow. The reuben was excellent and so was the shepherds pie. The wings were ok and nothing else was great. The chowder was a disaster with bacon and croutons but very little clams! Drinks were good, but we think an inexperienced bartender did not know how to make some of our cocktails since we were the only ones at the bar and the drinks took forever. Nice spot. I will give it another chance. It may be 2024 that I return. Hopefully things improve. One note, I did come in about 15-20 minutes after they opened. read more

Food is great. Staff is friendly. Kitchen? When you arrive a few minutes before 9:00... closing and the bar tender is afraid of putting an order into the kitchen.... THERE IS A PROBLEM. I WORK 14 HOUR DAYS AND WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE LOBSTER ROLL AND SALAD. management needs to step up if bar staff is afraid of the kitchen. My husband and I came here for lunch. The wait was quick for a table at the bar. He ordered the clam chowder which was delicious and a local beer, and I had the aperol spritz, which were great! I ordered the cod which came with zucchini as the vegetable and my husband got the curry. I normally never order the fish but for some reason, I really wanted it! I am so happy I did, it was SO GOOD! Everything was fresh and yummy. My husband and I both loved his curry (both of us are avid Indian food fans) and I kept stealing bites. Bartender attempted to charge me for drinks i did not order, when I asked for refund on my card she tried to ignore me until I sought help at the other end of the bar. Then, she came running to talk to the person helping me. I feel it should be common sense customer service to remedy this right away and not charge someone for drinks they did not order. I sent an email through the contact section of Hibernian Tavern a few days ago, and no one has attempted to reach out to me. This place has a cool menu but we had some issues. The food was good. The fish and chips were great. The Mongolian tenders are delicious. The service was okay but not great. Our waitress mixed up some apps and entrees but she was nice. The main issue was that the AC didn't seem to be on when it was extremely hot outside. Sunday evening dinner with some drinks. Pretty good spot, it has a nice Irish vibe, felt like I was back home in Donegal. Usually this place can be quite busy, but I went around 7pm on a Sunday and got seated straight away. Fast and pleasant service. COVID regulations adhered to, with hand sanitizer provided on the table. I wasn't planning on writing a review, but after being aggressively confronted by the manager, I figured I had to. My father and I decided to go out for lunch on a pleasant, fall afternoon. We decided to try something new in the harbor and chose Hibernian. Huge mistake. We were excited to begin the meal with the Mongolian Chicken Tenders, "a must try" according to the menu and server. I will admit, they looked and smelled delicious when served. However, after one revolting bite, we found them to be RAW. I have never in my life been served raw chicken tenders. We were brought a new batch and finally they were actually cooked through. For our main course, my father went with the fried clam roll and I ordered the lobster grilled cheese. As soon as our food was served, we immediately smelled a repulsive stench of rotten seafood. When my father took a bite of his clam roll, he immediately spit it out. The clams were foul. Clearly, the seafood had gone bad long before it was cooked. The grilled cheese was decent but we were so grossed out by the clam roll, it was hard to enjoy. Finally, we got the check and thought the price seemed high. I realized that we had been charged $5 more for my grilled cheese than listed on the menu. My menu listed the price as $19. After telling the waitress, she claimed the item was based on a "market price." I told her I knew for a fact that my menu listed the price as $19. I even went to the website and confirmed the price. This is when the manager confrontationally headed over to our table and claimed I was incorrect. He seemed angry and clearly did not want to hear what I had to say. I then even proceeded to show him the price on their own website, to which he rudley replied "it's market price," as he walked away from me. We left disgusted and disappointed. We were thankful we did not get food poisoning from the raw chicken and foul seafood. Perhaps the manager should spend more time on quality control and less time angrily confronting his customers. After an already poor experience, this left us with an even worse taste in our mouths than the food. read more

Tuna nachos with "homemade chips" were actually Tostitos, mushroom pasta special had not a mushroom in sight, mussels had gone bad and were still served. Five of us decided to try the Hibernian Tavern on Sunday for lunch after a lovely weekend at the beach. We each ordered something different and we all had mixed feelings about our meals. At the suggestion of our new and lovely young waitress, I got the Mongolian chicken tenders with coconut dipping source. This was a perfect choice for me and I was glad she suggested them. The sauce on the tenders has a  kick and is delicious, while the coconut sauce cools the kick a bit and is also good. I did order a Pain Killer which is a tropical drink which I loved in St Croix. The bartender left out a few of the ingredients and so they remade it. Although it was better than the first one, it wasn't as good as the ones I had in St Croix.  One friend tried the Boxty which were 2 giant potato cakes about the size of pancakes which were served with a heaping portion of sour cream topped with herbs. The smoked salmon that it was served with looked like gravlax and I assume they make it there. She liked the salmon, but said that the cakes weren't very crispy and were more than she could eat. I thought that the sour cream should be on the side and not on top of the cakes because that made them even less crispy. Another friend loved his burger, but said the fries tasted like he had made them at home in his oven. The California Cobb salad was huge. It was heaped with blue cheese, plenty of avocado slices and bacon bits, and was a hit.  Again, she couldn't finish it, and brought home what looked like a full Cobb Salad. Our other friend had the Caesar salad topped with steak tips. He enjoyed the salad but found the croutons average, and the tips somewhat overcooked. We all agreed that we would come back.  The restaurant has a lot to offer, but a few things they could work on. read more

Salty food, pushy waitstaff, waitress spilled half my brother's martini on the way over to the table and then held the glass with her finger inside the rim- was still $16 ....so loud you had to scream your conversation- after 9pm, all rude young people being over served. Women's Bathroom had broken beer bottles and feces on the floor in a stall. Place is a disaster and typical Scituate boozers up to no good. Great Band but I bet they won't be back either. I have had take-out a number of times from this restaurant, always great food, decent portions and reasonable prices. Tonight, unfortunately, was different. I ordered Shepard's Pie. While it tasted fine the portion was ridiculous - the container was less than half full. It consisted of about 2 tablespoons of the beef/vegetables with remainder mashed potatoes. At $18 I definitely did not receive value for my $$. I am so disappointed I will really have to consider if this is some place I would return to. read more

We are so grateful to have Hibernian in our town, just a quick walk from our house. It never disappoints whether we are there in the frostbite of winter or in the grind of summer tourists. We have eaten at the bar, on the high tops, with three generations of family at a super long table and outside on the sidewalk. Every single time, the service is excellent and the food is perfection....especially the $20 lobster rolls in play right now (which are the BEST we have had anywhere). Lexi, our often server, brings genuine enthusiasm and a good vibe to her efforts. The bartenders also are top shelf (pun intended). read more

Have been here twice. Both times we loved it. The last time there I had the shepards pie and my wife had the salmon. She had wine and I had a beer. However, more than 7 of the mussels were missing meat and were just shells (they didn't fall out into the broth...for $15 that was disappointing), the kid's chicken fingers were soggy and not crispy and for $16 you only get two fish tacos. The atmosphere and service was good enough to warrant five stars. The waiter was fantastic, attentive without hovering and an Irish brogue to boot. The Irish nachos were good, plenty of guacamole and sour cream. The chicken pie, unfortunately, turned out to be mashed potato pie. I kept taking a mouthful expecting to bite into a piece of chicken but came up empty. There were some very small pieces of chicken mixed in but certainly not "chunks of roasted chicken". All 5 of my experiences both dine-in and take out have been an utter disappointment. The employees are very pleasant and friendly. The Harbor Burgers with Bacon (3) Have been terribly overcooked, (1) (take out) was essentially not cooked and had to be returned for a replacement and is over priced at $19, The Rueben - Corn Beef was very tough and way too much dressing creating a soggy mess. The Pan Seared Scallops were mediocre at best. The Shepards Pie was essentially gravy soup. The Tavern Lobster Mac & Cheese had very, very little lobster. The NY Sirloin was overcooked and dry both times I ordered it. I will never eat at this establishment ever again. Patron's beware, overpriced and low quality is what to expect.
