We went for Brunch on a Sunday with close friends. The atmosphere was great, food was outstanding. The believe it was the chef that actually greeted us at the door and showed us to our table. Everything from the Watermelon processco to our main brunch items were so delicious. Our experience was 5 star. Since COVID the dining experience has been terrible. So we typically don't go out as much! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my evening. The atmosphere is welcoming with character in each room. Our service staff Chelsea and Mora were excellent. Drinks were awesome. Food was fresh and delicious! Pricing was not outrageous. Dufour has been a favorite restaurant for us for while but last night was an experience of a lifetime! We hosted some out of town guests for a very emotional reunion at Dufour. We had some unique requests that the staff quickly responded to and were incredibly accommodating for our entire party. They took every opportunity to make guests feel welcome. We were in a beautifully decorated parlor room that felt like home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting decorated with white candles and a Christmas tree. The parlor was intimate yet spacious which was the perfect setting for a variety of people. The food and wine was amazing and the staff really took customer service to the next level. Dufour is at the top of our list of local restaurants for date night but last night was extraordinary. The staff offered friendly recommendations and checked in on us often. The meals were amazing and beautifully plated. The dishes were prepared exactly as requested and cooked to perfection. I cannot recommend Dufour enough for any occasion from a casual date night to a large scale function. It's reasonably priced with a gorgeous wine list, upscale but cozy atmosphere and incredible staff!! Highly recommend!! read more

Went with my wife for dinner based on the recommendation of one of their servers. My wife had the filet and I had the pork. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was a pleasant New England inn and the staff was attentive. We finished with the lemon cream brûlée that exceeded my picky expectations.I highly recommend Dufour. read more

Ok, because I was very disappointed in the hit or miss approach to service and the quality of the food, I found this place to be a hit or completely miss kind of place. Which to me indicates a non resident chef. You don't get to be a 4 star kind of place with well done main courses, and clever misleading marketing...with everything else being off the back of a truck or out of a can. THIS IS NOT A FRENCH RESTERAUNT. Do these people know what they are doing? No they do not. The main courses were excellent, come here for the main courses because someone either assembled the simple menu and someone else is faithfully preparing the main course with precision and attention to detail. Everything else is at your own risk. For example: the Pecan Tart dessert. This should have remained on the grocery store shelf, what an embarrassment and deceptive thing to serve. Totally flavorless, dry, and covered in salt from a table shaker,..."salted caramel" no way. And I am being literal, the alleged salted caramel pecan tart was literarily covered in table salt, it was returned, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SERVED. The fact that it was served should be anyone's and everyone's sign that your being had at your expense. Another example of many,.... The "French onion soup," out of a can,...a standard soup embellished with dried seasonings and topped off with a factory slice of bread. Generically even a poorly prepared soup is difficult to mess up, but by placing a slice of the commercial kitchen bread, untoasted, flavorless and the same bread as the table bread speaks volumes as to what these people do not know. Which is how to cook. No onsite bakery or baked goods, and no effort to go to any of the local or nearby bake shops to procure anything worth serving to real people. The attention to the most basic detail has been either ignored or omitted by design, there just isn't any excuse for this kind of conduct. Hit or miss, spending this kind of time and money dining out requires that the purveyors of said dining establishments' serve a total package. And a special notice if your a party of 2. Beware the incredibly small table size,...simply inexcusable to force this kind of discomfort and suffering, the tables are clearly not big enough for 2 adult sized dinner plates,...who does this in this day and age? the table size for 2 is clearly more than an inconvenience and distraction, AGAIN, it should not have happened in the fist place. read more

My husband and I went to Dufour's for dinner last night with friends that live locally. The renovation of this historic site in South Berwick, Maine is absolutely stunning and authentic. BUT! The best part of the evening was dinner! The chef is professionally trained and the result was unparalleled. I had the Ahi Tuna entree was a blend of multi-layered flavors ... well balanced and absolutely delicious! The tuna was moist tender and cooked to perfection! We will ABSOLUTELY go back any and everytime we are in the area. Bravo! read more

A 75th birthday celebration brought us to Dufour for dinner. As with many other reviews before mine, the renovations to this inn and restaurant was impressive. Our server was excellent. We may have been a rowdy table of 10, but we were respectful to our many diners in our room. The salads and veggies were incredible. We had the marinated baby beets, the harvest salad and an amazing roasted brussels sprouts. For our entrees, we had a range of seafoods, duck and steaks. The birthday "girl" highly recommended the Atlantic Halibut. It was served with the utmost creative plating. The only real issue with the other entrees was the SALT. We were informed that the chef was off that night and the sous chef was cooking that evening. Also, our server had mentioned it was a reoccurring issue from other diners in the past. OMG, the amount of salt that was added to the scallop special, the duck breast and the hanger steak was so overpowering. I have a high tolerance for salty foods, so I continued to finish my well prepared medium rare hanger steak, but still could not get how much salt was added. It distracted from the perfectly cooked dishes. As a guest to this celebration dinner, I graciously appreciated my meal. Other members of the family chose not to finish their meals and I think four of the 10 entrees were comp'd. The chef needs to have a "salty" reality check with the sous chef who prepared these dishes. The créme brûlée for the night was chocolate. The server did not mention this and the photo of the dessert on the website has it as most would expect. It was served with a heavy layer of berries to perhaps disguise the fact it was really chocolate pudding. It was sugar glazed, but tasted like pudding or mousse. I live an hour south of South Berwick, so I don't think I will go out of my way to return anytime soon. But I will have fond memories of a fun birthday celebration and yummy vegetable dishes. read more

This is now one of our favorite local restaurants! The Crispy Cauliflower starter was delicious. I had a great Ahi tuna entree and my husband had in his words "the best pork chop ever". I've been here a few times since the spring and every time I come i am impressed! We've enjoyed sitting on the patio for dinner as well as the dining room, beautiful settings. The food is excellent and I enjoy the pace at which the menu is updated! I appreciate how the chef incorporates local ingredients wherever possible and love the specials he comes up with too. The hosts and waitstaff are all very attentive and friendly, this really is a wonderful place and love that it's close to us with its location in south Berwick! read more
