    Cured Duck

For starters, Dufour is located in a beautiful venue that is partnered with the Stage Neck in. The space balances old rustic aesthetics and modernized fixtures to give it a unique warm feel. There is a variety of seating options ranging from a fairly large bar, parlor seating, dining room seating, and in the summer months, porch seating! The menu at Dufour is definitely upscale American, but there are some Mediterranean and French influences, which gives the menu a diverse offering of options. On a recent trip, my partner and I started off with the cured duck which came with whipped chevre, pickled blackberries and a blackberry reduction. This was a highlight of the night, and definitely something we would get again. Additionally, for dinner, we ordered the halibut with came with curried lentils and the scallops with a parsnip puree. Overall, the food was appropriately seasoned and the serving sizes were on the larger end! My only critique was the service. While the staff were nice, for the price point of the restaurant, the staff just seemed a bit scattered. There was an event happening in one of the rooms, so I think it may have had the staff on edge, which then resulted in the staff being a little frantic. This impacted our general feeling of Dufour, as it was a Friday night and we wanted to go to a relaxed environment with good food. Will I go back? For sure. As I mentioned, the food was great with large portions, but I am hopeful that the service was a one time hiccup.

    Steak Frites and Statler Chicken

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone: stately and dignified without ever feeling stuffy. The tables are generously spaced, giving each party the comfort of privacy for real conversation. The background music deserves mention--curated and thoughtful, from the Lumineers to Bonnie Raitt to Amy Winehouse. Present but never overpowering, it added warmth to an already inviting ambiance. The service was impeccable. Every member of the staff carried themselves as if you were the most important guest in the room--attentive, gracious, and seamless in their timing. We began with the charcuterie plate, and it was a showstopper: each selection balanced and delicious. For mains, I chose the Statler Chicken while my guest ordered the Steak Frites. Both dishes were masterfully prepared by an obviously accomplished chef, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavor. Every bite confirmed that we were dining at a restaurant that takes real pride in its craft. Dufour is that rare combination: refined yet comfortable, elevated yet approachable. It is the kind of dining experience you'll want to return to again and again.

Attended a wedding nearby and stayed at the Stage House Inn, where Dufour is located. There are a handful of restaurants in South Berwick and it definitely seems like Dufour would be the best fit for a classy dinner date. Food is pricier compared to other places in town, but you definitely get what you pay for! Portions were large and the quality of the food was fantastic. Our server was very friendly and was able to share many suggestions for places to check out around town. We were turned away from a tavern in town because they were immediately overwhelmed by guests from the wedding coming over for dinner.. and to be honest, I'm kind of glad we were! I think we definitely had a better experience at Dufour than we would have elsewhere.

Wonderful board. Looks good and tastes great

Date night and a new place to try. We did the usual google search for menu and ensured that the options would meet our dietary needs. The menu provided many options and very appealing. The restaurant almost looks like it should be the town hall for this nice little town. When the weather is warmer, the large wrap around porch and lawn space could offer great seating and social space. The inside was very spacious and seating was spaced for the most part. The upstairs is part of an Inn and can only imagine how nice the rooms would be. The menu options looked great and we were excited for the evening. The space was great and the staff was friendly. The presentation of our apps and main courses were also fantastic. The charcuterie was presented nicely and tasted awesome. The combinations of spicy, sweet and sours was just right. The whole board was the best. For dinner we had Scottish Salmon and the Atlantic Halibut. Again, the presentation was beautiful. It looked and smelled incredible. Initially, the food was palatable. But as we continued to eat, we both noticed that both our dishes were over salted. Now, I say this and though the salt was a bit much, the meal was good, but could have been great. The overall experience was awesome and still worth a visit. Hopefully it was just a one time event. It's not good bye...see you again soon.

We went to Dufour for the first time. They did a fantastic job restoring this beautiful old building. We sat in the parlor which was small and intimate. Our waitress was very attentive. We had buffalo cauliflower for our appetizer which was amazing . I had the special which was head on shrimp, clams, and polenta. Overall it was pretty good. My partner got a steak frites which he felt was okay. The dessert was okay as well. It was a okay but I felt it was slightly over priced for the quality. I also agree with some of the precious reviews that some of the food was over salted.

First time there but we'll definitely be back. The menu doesn't do justice to the care and excellence of the real thing.

This was our first visit on a Saturday evening and we were glad we made reservations as it was packed yet still maintained a great atmosphere. Our male server Burak was very attentive, professional, and very friendly. We ordered the Lavash with the mixed appetizer - tabouli, Mediterranean salsa, hummus, and Haydari. Chicken and Beef Kabobs as our entrees. Their signature cocktail Istanbul Peach Martini and a glass of Autorotas Sauvignon Blanc. As always the Lavash was amazing as was the Kabobs. The Kabobs came with a scoop of white rice, potatoes and a great salad with no lettuce, just marinated tomatoes. Cucumber, onion with herbs.

They got the beef kabob and shrimp sauté. All excellent. I preferred the pistachio baklava. The Turkish cookies were tasty - a bit too sweet for me. It is in the old train station on the border of Maine and NH. The lighting is comfy and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The time between the meal and dessert was a bit delayed as our server seemed to forget about us. The first time I went there I ordered the falafel wrap -delish!

We had had a great server who paced our dishes perfectly. There are multiple ways to approach dinner here as they offer a variety of small and large plates. We chose a couple of small plates to start and sample, followed by an entree each. Plenty of food as the portions were generous. We ended up taking home part of each entree for lunch the next day. I tried the Huli Huli chicken buns, hoping for a little bit of Hawaii flavor, and these were delicious. They are priced individually so you can order as many as you like. I thought one was a reasonable appetizer portion. Unfortunately, the Cavatelli was sold out, but they offered another delicious pasta in it's place. I had the Plum Char Sui Pork, again a generous portion of melt in your mouth pork. Lots of that delicious five spice flavor, which hit all the right notes. Perhaps a bit too much of the sauce for me, but this was a delicious plate and I thought reasonably priced as compared to many other restaurants lately. I can see why this chef has gotten a James Beard nod, and a great spot to enjoy when in Dover

The food, I ordered the tonkotsu ( pork bone broth Ramen) was absolutely delicious. The ramen were firm, a bit chewy in a good way, the vegetables were crisp, the pork belly was decadent. The service is consistently friendly and attentive, and the menu pairs perfectly with the excellent house cocktails from their full bar. The ramen bowls remain the highlight. The Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen, especially, is outstanding: a rich, deeply flavorful broth, tender pork, and that comforting warmth that hits the spot on a cold New Hampshire day. The Bao Bao buns are a great way to start the meal, and the Takoyaki--light, crispy spheres filled with diced octopus and drizzled with savory sauces--adds a fun, flavorful twist to the appetizer lineup. On our latest visit, we tried the Okdol Bibimbap. The presentation was appealing and the flavors were solid, but the dish leaned a bit too heavily on the rice compared to the protein and vegetables. A slightly more generous balance of toppings would bring it right up to the level of their other standouts. Even so, this place continues to impress, and I'm already looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu on my next visit.
