Always the best Italian restaurant on the upper east side. Always consistent and my granddaughters Linguini alla Vongole was loaded with claims. Everything about this meal was perfect! I was with a group of 5 and we were promptly seated in the back with a few other tables. Shortly after, the other tables emptied out and it was nice and quiet to talk with everyone at the table. The service was very attentive and caring for dietary restrictions. The tri color salad, caprese, fettuccine bolognese, pesto, and chocolate lava cake were all delicious. The atmosphere and flavors easily put this within my top 5 favorite Italian UES restaurants. WOWW! Food, drinks, service- all top notch. The restaurant setting is sooo cute. Made me feel like I went from the upper east side to a restaurant in a small village in Italy. It was very nice walking into an empty restaurant, as they were just opening for dinner, and seeing business pick up as the dinner rush came. Their espresso martini is the BEST espresso I've ever had. And their pasta, where do I begin. I felt like I was eating a homemade Italian meal. We were so full but when you're at an Italian restaurant, u get dessert. We had this walnut filled brownie and I don't like nuts in my desserts but the way this was made, omg! The walnuts added the perfect balance to this sweet brownie. Absolutely delicious!! Our server Fabricio was the cherry on top of an amazing restaurant. He was so sweet, helpful and knowledgeable with the menu. I loved experiencing an Italian actually serving me italian food AND making my drink, (Im not used to that, lol) All in all, authentic, classic and home style Italian food and drinks. I held a birthday dinner for my mother at Due earlier this week. There were seven people in our party. We enjoyed various wines, salad's and the frito misto. Everyone loved their dinner. I had the Veal Piccata which came with green beans. I added a side of pasta. My mother had the veal piccata as well. My dad had the Veal Parm. He loved his dinner. Other guest's ordered a pasta, and other veal dishes. Everyone loved their dinner. We enjoyed various coffee/expresso drinks after dinner with our dessert. Loved the chocolate, vanilla, and mango gelato dessert. I would recommend Due for a wonderful Italian dinner. The staff were superb. read more

My wife and I had a holiday lunch with another couple at Due. They suggested it. I believe they are regulars. Or they reside in the neighborhood. The people were lovely. That is the right adjective for their choice of venue: lovely. Due is one of those places on the Upper East Side that exemplifies Manhattan. That is a compliment. It feels homey, but it exudes class. It also has that balance of casual, not stuffy, without being cheap or seeming crassly grubby like some business-lunch establishments can seem (so don't be surprised by the tab, though among it's peers it's utterly normal in that regard). I think it is for folks who live on the Upper East Side or are otherwise there for business or culture. It isn't a place you'd just decide to make a reservation, other than to impress someone with your good taste. The service reflects that. It has that genteel demeanor, as if those who waiting on you could be your peers, sophisticated and thoughtful. I had polenta in a cheese sauce. I enjoyed it, and I anticipated it would be rich. I try not to eat a dish such as that too often, and that also is a positive statement about the taste. You have to be disciplined. Or so I remind myself. I also had crab cakes. My wife had a salad, which I had a bite of, and the grilled salmon. My sense is Due is for those who do not need to show off. It is old school. I'd eat there again. I have loved coming here for many years. My last visit was disappointing. I ordered a Linguini allá Vongole. The dish whole delicious however for $38 it had only 5 baby clams. It had been years since I'd been to Due; I was overdue for a return visit. It was well worth it - I had an amazing meal there. I was there a little early before my friend came, so I sat at the little bar and had a glass of Cabernet, and a great conversation with several of the staff. We started with the Lasagnette Di Melanzane Alla Parmigiana- or the eggplant Parmesan appetizer. It was delicious - everything you would expect in that dish. Tender little slices of eggplant coated in homemade breadcrumbs and layered in melted cheese and a rich marinara. For our main dishes we shared three selections - first, the homemade spinach and ricotta ravioli in a rich pink sauce (Ravioli Piemontesi). It was heavenly - the pasta was so tender, the spinach and ricotta filling so satisfying, and I can't find the words to describe how wonderful the sauce was. Second was another pasta, the classic Spaghetti Pomodoro with fresh basil - it wasn't on the menu, but they prepared it for us. The marinara was vibrant and with the with fresh basil, it was great. Our last dish, was Veal Martini Con Broccoli - Due typically serves chicken with this dish, but my friend said they would substitute veal, and they did. Thinly, and I mean thinly, sliced pieces of tender veal, encrusted in parmigiano and served in a lemon and wine sauce. It was so delicate and velvety in texture, and the sauce was so flavorful! Quite a unique way to serve veal. Of course, when I saw Tartufo on the dessert menu, I couldn't resist. The frozen gelato with the dark chocolate shell was over the top, and a fitting end to a memorable meal! read more

I have reviewed this restaurant before. This will be the last time as it is permanently off my list. It is certainly NOT CONSISTENT! They must have revolving chefs! You cannot get a good meal two. times in a row. It is quite expensive for a neighborhood restaurants with very average sized portions. I am willing to overlook the fact that they sell Pepsi products arnd not Coca-Cola products. The manager, Fabiano, needs some training. You have to sit where he tells you even if you are the only person in the restaurant. Today I had a salad, one that I generally love, I asked for dressing on the side. The dressing was on the side but also on the salad! When I said it would be fine and I would eat at Fabiano grabbed it out of my hand and insisted on having it removed. I did not want it remade But I had no choice . He is a terrible manager and as I eat most of my meals out or order in, I'm pretty good at recognizing when someone is good at their job. He is awful! This restaurant is owned by the owners of Lusardis on 2nd Ave. I did speak with the owner. He was not at all interested. He's not interested in Due. He is really only interested in Lusardi's, which is an extremely expensive restaurant but good. read more

I really wanted to love it! The neighborhood natives rave about this restaurant and the bar is high for Italian food on the UES. The ambiance is cute but the food was just ok. Nothing that blew us away, and for the prices, probably not somewhere that would be my first choice. There's an extensive wine selection, but it is definitely on the pricey side with the least expensive bottle around $60. Service seemed a little slow but we realized this was likely just for the experience. If you like taking your time and not being bothered while you enjoy food and wine, they did a really good job with not making you feel rushed which I appreciate. Our food was just ok. We both had a chicken dish and ordered a side of pasta to share. With so many options in the area offering home made pasta, it's always a let down to get spaghetti from a box in a restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad, it just didn't blow me away like I was expecting. The owner spoke with us at the end and was really nice! I've had the opportunity to go to Rome twice, having bolognese both times. This was better than any place in Rome. I was genuinely upset that I couldn't finish my Fettuccine alla Bolognese because I felt like if I had another bite I'd throw up. Now I'm sitting in my hotel room, almost in tears because I didn't get a to-go box. This was so good, I genuinely cannot recommend it enough. From the moment you walked in, greeted by the hostess, checking your coat and being seated, to the attention by the wait staff, excellent service. On to food. A true caesar salad has anchovies. This salad had a hint of anchovy taste. Didn't see the actual fishies. Veal scallopini in a light sauce with the steamed asparagus, delicious. Salmon, cooked to desired level. Creme Brulee dessert, a shade off the mark. Would not recommend. For the decor, very nice and reserved. Soft lighting, good ambient volume even when the restaurant was filled to capacity. Lastly, despite reservation, we were seated opposite the entrance to the kitchen/serving station/restrooms, rookie dining mistake. Should have been relocated. Overall, would go back again. read more

Due looks like the perfect neighborhood Italian spot. The reviews are all over the place but, due to a lack of planning, we decided to roll the dice and check it out. The staff were friendly and I liked the ambiance - we sat outside and they had multiple fans going to create a nice breeze, the cutest dog at one of the tables, and a lively vibe. I was surprised when, moments after being seated, they brought over bread, in a plastic bag, along with packaged pats of butter. I found this strange, given the price point. Perhaps the majority of their business is now delivery, but why they wouldn't serve it differently or offer olive oil is beyond me. Overall our food was mediocre, though I ordered the Spaghetti Alla Militaire and liked it. We also ordered two glasses of Pinot Noir - at $17 each - and I honestly would be shocked if that the bottle was as much as one glass. read more

Visited the restaurant Due last night...Service and food was excellent but there is no wine by the glass menu only by the bottle..2 small classes of Californian red was charged at 21$ each...way too expensive. I should have asked for the price first of course...The wine and the bill left a bad taste in the mouth...Staff were great but wont be drinking there next time... read more

I don't know where to even begin to find the words to describe how delicious this food was. I had the ravioli and sampled the fettuccine bolognese...OUT OF THIS WORLD. The homemade fettuccine melted in my mouth and the ravioli and sauce was perfection. The staff is so kind and attentive. We called to find out how long the wait was (no wait) and the server left a post it on the table with my sister and I names which was so cute. Just as has been true for decades, Due is one of the very best Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. Compared to its sister restaurants, it's a little less formal than Lusardi's and a lot less bustling than Uva. The dishes are straightforward, but with flair and never lacking for flavor. The rollatine has been on their menu for ages for good reason--it has everything you want from comfort food, but with complexity and execution you wouldn't want to attempt at home. The salads are great, highlighted for me by the Francescana, as are all the proteins, perhaps most notably the cornish hen. You can count on attentive service, good wine, eagerness to please, and excellent sauce work. They're even working with Covid-changed service adeptly. Due isn't hip or innovative--it's just dependably great. read more

Had dinner for 3 at Due recently. 2 appetizers 3 mains 3 beers the bill was nearly $200. and it wasn't very good.All the plates were under spiced & all 3 pastas were soft & overcooked. My new favorite restaurant! We loved EVERYTHING. This elegant, relaxing, pretty space (with beautiful, calm music) welcomes you from the minute you enter, with candlelight bouncing onto all of the glass surfaces and beautiful wooden floors and walls. Service was excellent, friendly, and seamless. My Chicken Martini was divine, as was my partner's striped bass. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I especially appreciated all the grab-bars (to descend the stairs to the bathroom AND a tiny one to help you step down to the street level--I haven't seen this before--lovely touch!) Nothing has changed. Unfortunately even though speaking with the owners, the Lusardi 's, who own the restaurant by the same name, are not interested in this restaurant. Mr. Lusardi told me that he never reads The reviews. They do need to get rid of the manager as he makes eating there extremely unpleasant. Though there are tables on the sidewalk, and they are not being used, he wants you to eat in the street. Not happening for me! It is really difficult to understand why the owners keep this restaurant having no interest in it. The outside seating is always empty while restaurant next-door is very busy. Nice ambience, good food and service, reasonable prices (for the upper east side). The patrons are an older crowd. You will not find many diners less than 50, perhaps because Due has a very sedate traditional setting. Nothing trendy. No music. Tables are quite small. This may actually be a plus as noise level is loud. Close proximity may help conversation. As I am slightly hearing impaired I would not recommend this venue for a party of more than four. A 14-year-old Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side, this restaurant exudes romance if you consider the red interior and wine bottles lining the walls (adorned with cheery prints). Service was friendly and attentive, water was filled quickly. Ordered a thick lentil soup which was satisfying. The penne pasta with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella wasn't bad, especially considering it was utterly devoid of meat. The dish smelled enticing and the tomatoes were succulent. Also ordered was a spiral pasta with radicchio, mozzarella, and pancetta in a plum tomato sauce. Prices reasonable and worth a trip if you're into Italian and want the romantic ambiance. In honor of Valentine's Day, I stopped nagging everyone about cleaning up their stuff, and instead we went out to lunch! I don't think I could have offered a better gift. Here are my thoughts on Due: Ambiance: the restaurant is nice and cozy. I understand from other reviews that it gets busy at dinner but the place was almost empty during our Saturday afternoon lunch. Still, it's clean and we had a nice table near the window. No complaints here. Service: Friendly and quick, food came out fast. Food: We ordered 4 items and shared. -- Crab cakes are excellent and were substantial. I highly recommend ordering these. -- Pasta with fresh mozzarella was just okay. The sauce was nothing great and the cheese could have been a bit more incorporated in the dish. I would avoid this dish. -- Shrimp with white beans (sorry I don't know the exact name) was just okay also. Shrimp were a bit rubbery, beans a bit overcooked. I wouldn't order this again. -- Salad with hearts of palm, beets, etc. was quite good. Fresh and a good portion. A lemon - olive oil dressing and some salt would have made this perfect. Maybe even some avocado? -- Complimentary bread was excellent! Overall: We'll probably return, if just for the crab cakes and cozy atmosphere. read more
