    Turkey sandwich and cashew salad
    Karlee B.

This was a nice old time diner that I enjoyed a quick lunch at while in town on business. You feel like you're transported back in time with how the features have been reserved, but not in a run down way. The servers were quick to get me seated, watered and waited on. I enjoyed a hot turkey sandwich and upgraded my side salad to their cashew salad which added a little extra to it. Enjoyed my meal. Wouldn't mind coming again.

Chicken Fried Steak with eggs over medium

This place has been a staple location since I moved to Salinas. They are more of a local joint with a basic comfort meal menu. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak with eggs over medium. It was okay, it seemed to lack a bit of flavor and the gravy need a bit of salt. Pretty much standard diner. The coffee tastes like Farmer Bros. so it is just okay. My server was prompt since I sat at the counter to order. I don't recall that she mentioned any specials, eh. The restaurant needs a refresh. it is spacious with two rooms to sit in. There are about 4 or 5 counter seats near the front.

A local tradition in old town Salinas, Dudley's offers breakfast and lunch comfort foods in a friendly atmosphere. Check out the Daily Double or the tuna melt. Lucy and the other waitstaff are always friendly and supply coffee refills at perfect intervals. Dudley's is convenient to businesses, government offices, and our tourist hub near the Steinbeck Center.

Veggie omelette breakfast and Italian sausage breakfast with toast and coffee. Yum!

Dudley's is the kind of place locals go to relax and enjoy a homemade meal. We had breakfast and I loved my extra crispy hash browns. Lucy is a very attentive waitress who runs a tight ship and seems to know the clientele by name.

    Lovely calories.

Beauty in motion. Full house and got this masterpiece. Clam chowder like clam chowder's meant to be. Eggs, fruit, hangover cure anyone? Happy Noshing. This review brought to you by Dogedollar.

Old town feel. If you like old school diners without much flare but kind service this is the spot. Good array of options from sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast omelettes. I'm from Marina and moved to Salinas. We use to go to this spot in Marina for locals breakfast. This feels like it. We ordered the Phoenix (bacon avocado, tomato, cheese) and good fries and quiche with potatoes and fruit. Solid breakfast spot and easy to pay. Will come back for sure. The people upfront the two ladies were amazing and great service.

Dudley's is a breakfast/lunch spot in oldtown Salinas. Has that classic American diner feel. Ordered: Coffee & The Yahoo! Omelet (w/ Ortega Chilles & mushrooms) The omelet was good. Fresh tasting and the chilles & mushrooms sautéed well. Country potatoes were excellent. I ordered coffee and asked for half and half. I got oil-based creamer instead... not good. Price: $21 (Meal cost: $16.93)

I…read moregrew up in Salinas and always remember this place being busy and thought of in high regard by pretty much all the locals. Being back in town, I had to give it a try after 15+ years being away. What a let down honestly. We were seated right away which was appreciated. It was about 10am on a Wednesday and we arrived just before the big rush it seemed. To drink, we ordered waters and orange juice and coffee. A whole coffee carafe was left on our table which was a bit of a surprise and the orange juice as advertised tasted freshly squeezed. Before ordering our food, my husband began asking the waiter about gluten free pancakes or waffles (since such was advertised online in a review from 11yrs ago) and before he could even finish the question the waiter cut him off to explain all the pancake and waffle options. My husband kindly asked again and was told they didn't have any specific gluten free options. That's ok, he ordered their Bacado omelette and instead of toast on the side he asked for a side of fruit. I ordered their Cinnamon Bread French Toast and a side of 1 scrambled egg and 1 sausage. I was told the sausage only comes in 2 or 4, and so I chose 2. When the food arrived, I immediately thought this all looks ok. And the taste was just the same. The omelette was not fluffy like you'd expect a highly rated restaurant omelette to be. The side of fruit came in a condiment cup and had 1 grape as well as 3 pieces of other fruit. The hash browns were sad looking, pretty pale and absolutely no crunch. My husband even added salt which was sad and rare to watch him do. My French toast was ok, kind of soggy and didn't have any caramelization or crunch on the outside whatsoever. It's definitely cinnamon toast vs a cinnamon roll French toast and was nothing special. The sausage was the best part which says a lot. I wouldn't come back here because there's infinitely better options minutes away.

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and found Portabello's to be a good brunch spot in Salinas. The service was fast, the food portions were big, the food tasted fresh, and it was a nice ambiance. The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with trendy décor that is very appealing to the eye. When I arrived, it was a little challenging to find the full menu, and I wasn't greeted right away. However, I understand places can get busy, so I didn't let that affect my overall impression too much. I ordered the Panini Caprese sandwich, and my son ordered the Caesar salad wrap. My sandwich didn't look quite as full as the photo, but honestly, the flavor made up for it. It was delicious with great texture, and I loved every bite. I also appreciated that it came with pickled jalapeños on the side, which was a nice extra touch since I love adding those to sandwiches. My son rated his wrap a 3 out of 5. He felt there wasn't much chicken inside, and there also wasn't much Caesar dressing, so it mostly tasted like a wrap with lettuce. It would have been a much better experience if they had included more chicken and Caesar dressing on the side to add more flavor. Overall, I'd definitely come back and try this place again because I really enjoyed my sandwich and the café itself has such a cute, cozy vibe.
