My wife surprised me with a stop to this spot. She gets the credit for discovering this gem! The donuts are made to order, as soon as you order them, the dough is placed on the conveyer belt and into the hot oil. The showpiece isnt the donut, but the toppings that you can choose from, I had Oreo cookies and cream, and chocolate, peanut butter drizzle. I'm a huge fan of Federal Donuts and really wanted donuts but didn't feel like driving into Philly. So last Friday my friend told me she heard about Duck Donuts, neither one of us tried it but it was closer. We took the 20 min drive to Marlton after pre-ordering our donuts online. Due to covid restrictions you just pull up and someone comes out. We began to drive off after receiving our donuts but I was excited to try mine and I opened the box (good thing I did), ALL of the donuts were MELTED....EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM!!!! So we turn back around and call them asking for new donuts. One of my comments was "am I supposed to dip my donut in the frosting at the bottom of the box?". The lady explained that they were melted because they were hot donuts and PROCEEDED TO TAKE THE DONUTS BACK INTO THE STORE TO PREVENT US FROM HAVING 2 ORDERS. Don't get me wrong, we didn't want a free order but that's something to take into consideration during COVID. The donuts were in our car, in our possession and you took them back into your store. RETURNING FOOD, simply disgusting. I mean ppl can't even return clothes to stores but you're taking food, GROSS. ANYWAYS, so after 5 mins the lady comes back out with a new set of donuts that were even more melted. It just blows my mind because none of the donuts I saw on yelp looked melted. If your donuts were too hot, why would you frost them instead of waiting? So we paid almost 20 dollars for donuts and this is what we got. This was my first time trying this establishment and I must say they were outstanding. Fresh, warm and delicious the options were plenty and so good. I got the Signature Variety and a half dozen of some of the other flavors and they were all sooo good. The staff were extremely polite and a pleasure to interact with. Went in for my son's birthday, he's so excited to get his favorite donut. There is one young girl working with one other customer in front of us. This young girl is so flustered by having one other order, she's calling other employees instead of acknowledging our presence and then after 5-7 minutes she goes "I'll be with you in ten minutes." I've been to a lot of those places and as far as where this place fits in its pretty decent. The donuts aren't as heavy as Federal for example, but most of these made fresh places seem to taste more sugary. As far as the store itself, I was lucky enough to be the only one there at the time and didn't have to wait behind someone with a huge order like the person who came in after me. It was a Friday morning in summer so maybe alot of people knocked off work to go to 'da shore'. Duck Donuts is a kind of Chipotle for donuts. One choses the base donut then the coating, toppings and drizzle. They also have popular combinations to chose from with pictures if not in a creative mood. Then your donut is cooked to order and assembled. The donuts were very very good. They were cake donuts which I prefer and were not overly sweet, dry or dense. My only complaint, and it is small one, is that the donuts come out so fast and hot some of the drizzle gets on your hands. I just licked my fingers when no one was watching. There are not a lot of seats at Duck Donuts, maybe for 10 people or so, but there is a a good amount of standing room. I had the pleasure of first trying Duck Donuts but from their KOP location. Last year when I found out they were moving into a Marlton location I couldn't control my excitement. I have been counting down the days to the grand opening and here it is. The location is right between Rt 70 & 73, very easy to get to with lots of parking available. The store is bright & clean and the staff friendly & ready to explain their concept if it was your first time visiting. You customize your order here and that's the fun part! No stale donuts sitting out waiting for you to pick them. These babies are made fresh to order, hand dipped right in front of you to what you want. This part of the kitchen is open concept and fun to watch. My friend was visiting from out of state and even though we just had breakfast, I said we have to stop by and grab a few. Our half dozen: chocolate with marshmallow drizzle, peanut butter with chocolate drizzle (PB paradise), French toast, just powder sugar, strawberry with rainbow sprinkles and Blueberry Pancake. My friend and I were swooning over each bite. They were warm, they were soft, and they weren't overly sweet which is where some donut shops fail. I have not been to my parents in a while, so I had no idea that a local donut shop had opened over the last few years. I am so pleased that more options of the sort are coming to South Jersey. Though I've lived in several cities (currently New York), I haven't seen the made-to-order donut in any of them. It was very unique to me (something that I can't often say about Southern NJ). The donut was hot, and it was still crispy. And the toppings I chose were tasty. I tried the cookies and cream. I'll go back again sometime to try another one. A few other comments and impressions: I don't understand why everyone is saying the donuts are small! I found the donuts to be well-sized, and way more than enough. To people complaining about the price: you're going to an artisan bake shop. As with any item that is made-to-order or handmade, you pay a premium. Go to Dunkin if this upsets you. That said, I found the prices here to be quite reasonable. To people complaining because they don't carry different flavored batters for the cake donuts: Again, speciality bakeries, creameries etc. do things differently and often carry limited and/or strange flavors.
