I came here to buy two small heart-shaped cheesecakes the day before Valentine's Day - one for my girlfriend, one for my mother. I could have chosen Cake Boss a minute up the road, but decided to patronize a local mom n pop (I went out of my way to, actually, since I was coming from Trader Joe's). After sharing one of the cakes with my mother and finding the experience unpleasant, I decided to return the other, unopened (only a few hours had passed since purchase). There were some crunchy things around the perimeter that looked like Rice Krispies or white chocolate bits which were hard enough to distract from the overall experience. The cake itself was mediocre, I've had better from a box of Jell-o no-bake cheesecake filling. The strawberries on top were tart, so a sugary red glaze (the kind from a 5-gallon bucket) was liberally applied to cover it up. Ironically, the sign at the door states no entry without a mask, but one of the workers there only wore her mask over her mouth, leaving her nose completely exposed. The nose, for those not aware, is also connected to the lungs (I'm a nurse, but this is no trade secret). By not covering the nose AND the mouth, your mask serves no purpose (you wouldn't wash only one hand after leaving the bathroom, would you?) I wouldn't be posting any of this today if the manager took my very polite feedback (more sugar glazed than her strawberries) and allowed me to return the other cake (it was only $6.99). Since she is choosing a few dollars over customer satisfaction though, my hand is forced to relaying my experience on this public forum. Don't go to Gallo's, it is not sanitary, the products are low quality and it's run with poor principles. read more

I've never purchased any baked goods from here personally but my 'BFF' does and I've now tried two. Their vanilla-vanilla is very good and light/fresh and the recent marble pound cake I had was very good as well. I'm particular about icings and Gallo's is sweet but not sickeningly so and I can eat all of it :) They decorate classy too, which is appreciated. My favs are Classic Cake & The Cake Stand but I'd definitely like to check out this place! read more

Ok, let's start off by I am a donut snob, I think donuts are a piece of history and art and a lot of places ruin them. I will not name them but they're a lot of chains and "famous" places i could care less for. However, these are the best donuts i have ever had. I'm serious they are light, airy, and fresh every-time. The chocolate and vanilla frosting are unbelievable and just taste "homemade". Their cinnamon swirls are so additive I'm went into a deep depression after eating 5 in an hour time. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I wish I could speak in their other treats but I go there for one reason only and it's to get the BEST donuts. I will be back. Their Boston creams are perfect too, the filling is perfect and doesn't taste like it was mass produced and sat in a plastic bag for months. I will be back! read more

So disappointing that I could not place an order to come in and pick up. Nope! I was told on the phone, "Its first come, first serve," Just like that! No I'm sorry, no explanation, nothing! The person on the phone sounded quick to want to dismiss me, like I was a nuisance or bothering her. Never in my life, and I'm 63, have I heard of a bakery where you can not order items ahead of time! Just stopped by Gallo's for a birthday cake and some jelly donuts I can't recall having been there before. I think the items that I got were very good. Their signature strawberry and banana cake with whipped cream icing was really good, better than any supermarket cake and better than at least 75% of the bakeries in the area. The jelly donuts were delicious and had at least four tablespoons of jelly in each one. I can honestly say these were the best jelly donuts that I've ever had. I would seriously consider giving gallo's a try if you are in the market for a cake or a jelly doughnut for sure!!! The only drawback i had was that I called before I went and someone answered the phone and said something unintelligible and put me on hold. This used to be a good bakery but we ordered a red velvet cake and it was NOT cream cheese frosting, so they cut a serious corner and for a $25 cake I expected better. Also, the bigger point is not only was the person rude on the phone with ordering, they were equally as miserable when we picked up the cake. Brooke brought the people together the other day by bringing these insanely fresh and rich Gallos donuts to our morning meeting. Dunkin is good for coffee and that's about it so this was a change up that would inspire those who fight the good fight working with New Jersey's at risk youth!! I ordered 200 cupcakes and a small cake from Gallos for my wedding last Saturday. I love desserts, and had originally planned to make them myself but it would have been difficult with the hours I work. I selected 7 flavors, and spoke with the decorator, Jennifer, to decide the best way to present the cupcakes so that even the gourmet flavors would look wedding-y. I remember being pretty indecisive, and I don't know how she made what she did of my rambling, but the result was beautiful! I was so impressed with the presentation, and my guests can't stop raving about the flavors. In particular, the Red Velvet and Salted Caramel were big hits. Thank you so much for everything! I've been going to Gallo's for years. I live close to the Mt. Laurel store so it's super convenient to stop in and place an order or pick up some goodies at the end of the day. I love their cakes! The icing is just sweet enough and complements the cake perfectly. I haven't been disappointed in their choice of coloring when I ask for "Fall Colors" or anything non-specific. And they are right on the money when I ask for specific colors. Other items in the shop worth stopping in for: as others have mentioned, the cream donuts are delicious and quite filling. And I LOVE the cannolis! Ordered a couple dozen for Thanksgiving and again for New Years and they were gobbled up so quickly both times! I can't recommend Gallo's enough! read more

I did not like the colors on the cake that I ordered and when she simply asked if i liked it, I simply responded no the color was too dark ( hence when i ordered i said pastel colors only) . She then rolls her eyes as she gives the cake to the bakers to fix and says to me next you have to be more specific using a color palette as we don't make different shades of color icings due to it being wasted. Umm No B**** next time tell customers about this palette shit and explain your " icing color policy " and this color was CLEARLY NOT PASTEL it was a dark ass purple GENIUS ! read more

Right now I am very upset but I am going to reserve judgement until we taste the cake. I admit my email was not as descriptive, but my long phone call was very much so. I asked for a SOFT PINK frosted cake, with lavender and white colors as well. I asked for a princess theme with lots of royal looking designs and a crown. They even said they would put little silver balls around it. What I got was a fully white, completely bare cookie cutter cake that I could have bought at shop rite or Walmart. It had a pretty crown and flowers on the top. NOTHING on the sides. Hopefully it will taste really good, but folks PLEASE send a picture of what you want or else you may get otherwise. I learned a VERY expensive lesson. Gallo's you need to listen to people's descriptions better!! UPDATE: We tasted the cake, and ALL agreed it was ok but DEFINITELY not worth 50 dollars!! You people really have some serious nerve charging that much for a cookie cutter looking cake that looked like every other cake sitting in their case and call it custom made??? I was expecting something like the pictures they had on their website. Seriously, no offense to Walmart or Shoprite, they could make something just as good or better and not charge that much. Gallo's is easily my favorite bakery around, which is good because they have three locations! I had the task of picking up a cake for a co-worker's birthday on tuesday but by the time I arrived on sunday they were already closed (at 3pm) and not unlike many other bakeries- they are closed on mondays. Fortunately for me, this location opens at 7am. I stopped in on tuesday morning on my way to work and the bakery was already filled with delicious options that were made that morning. The staff was super pleasant and did a great job writing on the cake. I went with the plain vanilla to play it safe- but Gallo's vanilla is far from boring! All of my co-workers loved the cake and all had high praise for Gallo's. (I wish I had taken a picture of the cake before we devoured it!) Normally I'm not a huge fan of icing, but on this cake I actually ate it all! The prices are reasonable and this is a perfect spot to go to for any bakery needs. read more

Ordered a cake and a dozen cupcakes for my daughters birthday party. Arrived at scheduled pickup time and cake was not even decorated yet. When it was done, cake was beautiful. The cupcakes on the other hand looked horrible, I was embarrassed to even serve them. I called the bakery and asked for the cupcakes to be discounted. They only offered $10 off a next order. I even offered to text them a picture of how bad they were decorated but they declined. I went to F&M Bakery a few weeks ago to pick up bagels. On my way out, I noticed Gallo's bakery was located a few doors down so I stopped in just to take a look around. I didn't purchase anything that day. Everything looked like a normal bakery, but the doughnuts on the back self looked appetizing. I decided to purchase some doughnuts for the office last week. I thought about Jacks on route 30 but I was running late and couldn't afford to go out of the way. I decided to try the doughnuts I saw at Gallo's. Saw that they boasted "best cupcakes in SJ", so I decided to give them a try. As a current pastry arts student, I know a box cake mix when I taste one, and these were definitely not from scratch. The chocolate cake was bland with little chocolate flavor, and the vanilla tasted like playdoh (that's generally what cheap cake mix tastes like). I have been a customer to Gallos for years, my family and I like to order our birthday cakes from there. I live in Philadelphia and would drive to New Jersey just to order cakes from here. I am getting married and really wanted to order my wedding cake from here. I am a college student and wanted to get the final details of my wedding in August finished so that I would not have to worry about it while in school. So I called and the woman told me that it was too early and to call back around May or June, she would not work with me or make any exceptions. All I wanted to do was design my cake and get a price so I could pay the deposit, I didn't understand the big deal. I guess they didn't want the business.
