Duck does a great job! I've lived here on and off for 15 years - and they're kind to tourists and locals alike. You're gonna wait in line, and the parking is a bit challenging, but it's fun to pick donuts and kids LOVE to see them be made! And if you want to spoil yourself with variety and great taste, head up there. Pam's review below me here has a bone to pick with DD. Obviously, she's not been in the store regularly because it is constantly busy, and I'd be a bit thin on patience too if I had to deal with entitled customers. Pam also had nothing to say about the donuts. She's just mad she had to wait like the rest of us. She is using her "influence" to tell her "renters" not to go to a business that is generally accepted to be an institution down here. One that is currently trying to stay afloat like many other businesses. I've been living and coming down to OBX as long as Pam and I assure you she's in a very small minority. No, I don't like lines. But the donuts are worth it and these people deal with hundreds of customers. Some, like Pam, who are very unaware of what it means to work in customer service. We visited Duck Donuts twice in May 2022 and twice in September 2021 and had two great experiences and two okay experiences. When the donuts are at their best, they are amazing, which makes it all the more disappointing when you receive some that are second best. We will definitely return in the future. read more

They were good. Fun to choose your donut. They were warm and fresh which made them a bit mushy for my liking. We had maple bacon lots of bacon!!! Which was a positive, very sweet but tasty. Lucky that we were here during a non busy time. Toughest part is parking, because it seems people park here and walk the boardwalk. A little confusing to order in one building on the left and pickup in another on the right, but the order staff is friendly, patient and made great suggestions. In the pickup building, it's fun to watch the donuts fried to order and again the staff made great suggestions for adding extra flaver to your choices. The best doughnuts I've ever had. Going back to Dunkin Donuts after this is like picking up a street hooker after spending the night with a high class call girl. Just can't be done. The genus in the plan is that they only make one type of of cake doughnut and then cover it in different glazes and toppings, made to order. You create your own heaven and get it nice and warm. My personal favorites was the strawberry and maple glazes and then topped with rainbow jimmies. I'm about 1% lying when I say I would take a 6 hour car trip from Pennsylvania just for one. read more

Loving this place each time I come here on vacation. No two donuts are the same and nothing compares to the hot fresh melted icing on a freshly baked warm and sticky donut. Words can't describe the pleasure but if I had to compare the closest comparison would be a hot fudge brownie desert with a large variety of flavors. My favorite is the peach cobbler but I also love the blueberry crumble. Every year I visit, I feel compelled to sample them and every year I find them to be absurdly greasy ... So I feel really guilty for giving these donuts 3 stars, as everyone else seems to love them. So you can call my review the outlier and go with everyone else instead! So yes the donuts are good, fresh and sweet, you watch them get freshly made (so all have the same actual donut part) and then they dip them in a tub of different frostings and sprinkle toppings. If you dipped stale old white bread in that much frosting it would taste good...no lie. I like fluffier melt in your mouth dough (vs this much heavier one) and nice creamy fillings with unique flavors. Anyway...I would definitely eat them but I am not on board this donut band wagon. Plus after having Beiler's donuts in Philly it's really hard for any other place to compete, expectations are way too high. Sorry! read more

Last month I was on vacation in Duck and read about Duck Donuts. Never having tried a homemade donut I went in not knowing what to get. So I was a bit surprised when all they had was cake donuts, but you can add toppings. Leaving with a plain, cinnamon/sugar and one with chocolate syrup topped with coconut flakes. I bit into the plain donut and nearly melted into my car seat. It was so warm, moist, flavorful without being overally sweet. The cinnamon and sugar donut was equally as good. By this time i was full, I told my mom she could have the last one but to save me a bite. I noticed it still sitting in the container untouched hours later, so I ate it. I look forward to trying homemade cake donuts in Charlotte, but it will be hard to top Duck Donuts! read more

Ok, right up front these are freshly made, hot donuts. With my previous frame of reference for "fresh donuts" being Krispy Kreme I was not ready for this. That is not to say I was disappointed whatsoever (I was quite pleased!), only that my expectation was off. When you get there you park and walk into the business area. Nicely appointed with tables and benches to sit outside. I was honestly confused with where to go, but the signage was more than adequate enough to let me know that you order on one side (the right) and pick up on the other (the left). Lots of options for donut glazes/flavors/toppings...go there with a kid and the "sprinkles" option is a no brainer. We got two donuts apiece and were more than satisfied. Getting back to "expectations", I'm used to "fresh" glazed donuts having a solid sugar crust on them. These were delicious little bites of happy, warm and soaked in a sugary glaze...absolutely tasty. The cinnamon sugar and powdered donuts were good as well, and of course the sprinkles were a hit. I recommend getting a cup of coffee, eating your first of two donuts sitting down, and then taking your second as you stroll the wooden walkway north to enjoy the scenery and the bay. Say hi to all the schools of little fishes in the shallows, and the little nutria we saw swimming from his little hidey-hole to the patch of growing sea grass that he would nibble off and carry back! If it's all relative, it's probably a 5-star place in Duck, NC but in comparison to other donut places I've been, it's def not the best I've ever had. Watching them make the donuts is cool, they are super fresh and warm, and probably above average, but if there was a Dunkin Donuts nearby, I would have gone there instead. I read all of the 4 and 5 star reviews and figured that I had to try this place. We are at the end of our 1 week vacation on the OBX so I got up this morning to head over and pick up 2 dozen donuts for everyone at the house. The location is small, which is fine, and the staff is very friendly. However, I don't think that the donuts actually warrant a 4 or 5 star rating. They are cake donuts and yes, they are made fresh in front of you, but that is about it. The glaze and toppings are nothing special. I ordered a wide variety of the glazes and we really only found 1 or two that were better than average. Finally, the price... $12 for a dozen is high when compared to normal standards, but my guess is that they are capitalizing on the captive market of the Outer Banks and all of the tourists. I am glad I tried it, but this is definitely not a 'must have' when visiting OBX. read more

When in Duck... you must stop for duck donuts right. I was very impressed at the operation. One side is for ordering another separate space is for the pickup. It helps keep the flow of customers but I wanted to pick my donuts off of visual senses and I was bummed when I couldn't look at already prepared donuts.
