This is the type of restaurants you come here purely for good food. The place looks like a previous fast food with minimum renovation. Staff were all right but mostly just offering basic services. However, the food was always excellent. The Roasted Duck (or Bejing Duck) is something you must order here. It's always roasted to perfection! The dumplings and potstickers are very good too. I have seen a lot of comments about Duck & Dumpling so my husband and i decided to check it out ourselves. We love Sichuan food and we' were excited to try a new place. It did not disappoint. We loved it. This will be a place the ends up on our Asian rotation. This is a small restaurant but has plenty of room and cute decor. The staff was helpful and friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious from the green beans, spicy and crispy chicken to the delicious fried rice. The food is authentic and served family style with huge portions. I would say that this is a great place for groups but is also great for a couple. With the huge portions you want to share. We certainly took home leftovers that lasted a couple more meals. We went on a Friday night but went early before a crowd began. By the time we left the place was beginning to fill up. If I had to fault anything it would be the sodium content but that is always high to us at any Asian restaurant. It's what makes everything yummy. We will be back to try other dishes. 1st bit of advise - this is located in the old taco cabana in near the HEBs curbside. If you blink you might miss it. 2nd bring some friends so you can all order tons of different things and share! A casual spot with great flavors and a relaxed vibe. Our server stopped by often and provided friendly, attentive service without being overbearing. We ordered the Peking duck, crispy chicken, and a variety of handmade dumplings, and everything was flavorful and delicious. The Peking duck was definitely the star--perfectly moist meat with that crave-worthy crispy skin. The only downside was that the tables felt a bit too small to comfortably fit all the dishes, which made things a little cramped. I've been wanting to try Duck & Dumpling since they opened and only just went for the first time tonight. FANTASTIC experience. The service was friendly. The food was AMAZING. My sons loved their pork and their beef bao, and even as hungry teenager boys realized that one serving was enough for them to split. Now, they have bao leftovers! My husband ordered the spicy crispy chicken- I kept stealing pieces of it and couldn't help myself. I like a little spice but I hate it when food is too spicy to enjoy the flavor. The crispy spicy chicken had a DELICIOUS burn- the burn was just there but you're still able to enjoy the lovely flavor of the chicken. I had the pork fried rice. It was so delicious- my husband, sons, and even my in-laws were taking some of it (which I offered to them, so no big deal). My in-laws LOVED their duck. My potstickers were so flavorful and juicy. Here's what we ordered: Half Peking duck $31.95 (includes hoisin sauce, scallions, cucumbers, and spring pancake). Not sure if I've ever seen it served with sugar & honey mustard before, but that's what they had as well. I didn't try it. The duck skin was crispy and tasty, but my only complaint was that there was not enough duck meat. I joked that we got an anorexic duck. Some places use the remaining meat/bones to do a stir fry, but at Duck & Dumpling they made duck broth soup--which was decent as well. The soup consisted of the remaining bones/meat and cabbage. Braised beef noodle soup. $16.95 Handmade noodles. I loved the pickled greens. They provided plenty of meat, but also lots of fat/tendon. Broth was flavorful. Spicy and Sour Dumplings (pork & scallion) $12.95 - the dumplings were a little "hard" (thicker dumpling wrapper), but the meat was plentiful. Sauteed Bok Choy with Garlic $14.95 - good. Stopped in with a friend for lunch as we wanted to try something new and after hearing good things. We beat the lunch crowd as it started to get packed after we sat down. I look over the menu, which has allot of options, and decide to keep it simple and go full dumpling mode. I start off with the red bean sesame balls then order 3 different types of dumplings (curry chicken & potato / beef & onion / pork & scallion) and had one each steamed, grilled, and pan fried respectively. The red bean sesame balls were nice and fresh with a nice flavor profile coming from the red bean paste....very tasty. The dumplings come out next and they all look delish. Each of the different stuffings were well seasoned and savory. I prefer the pan fried style but the steamed and grilled were also nice options. They have dumplings and potstickers, but for those that want something more traditional, they have chow mein or lo mein. They also have vegan options, which is great for those that want to try their dumplings or pot stickers. I started off with the red bean sesame balls. I love red bean paste. No complaints about these sesame balls. I got the shrimp lo mein. The dish is definitely big enough to share. I shared it with someone else and still took some home for leftovers. I will admit they were a little skimpy with the shrimp. From looking around, I could tell that this is a family style dining restaurant. People had some amazing looking dishes at their tables. There's a notebook on the table for check-in, but no sign explaining that, and ordering requires scanning a QR code--again, with no clear instructions. Came here the other night with my fiance. I did not have any issues finding parking but the lot was pretty packed. Went inside and attempted to put my name on waitlist through the tablet at the front. The tablet is not very responsive. It ended up not mattering because a server came out soon and brought us to a table. We order the half duck. Some important notes. They do not offer the duck for take out. The menu also says that groups of 3 or less are limited to just ordering the half duck. This did not matter to my fiance and I as the half duck was enough for us. We also ordered some dumplings. The duck came out really quickly. It had a great visual presentation. It came with different sauces and spring pancakes. My best description of spring pancake is that it seemed like a thinner version of a tortilla. It also came with some other sides to add to the duck. Sorry. Not sure what the other sides were. The duck was delicious and the skin was crispy. The different sauces that came with the duck were very tasty. The dumplings came out shortly after we finished the duck and were equally flavorful. The restaurant seemed a little louder than I would have like but is to be expected when you have food so good that your restaurant is packed even on a Thursday night. My husband and I wanted to find an Asian restaurant to take some friends to and we're lucky that we found Duck and Dumpling. They some fantastic food. The soupy dumplings were fantastic and overfilled. They squirted several feet when I bit into them. The Peking duck was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and the skin was ultra crispy. The Peking duck came with duck broth soup. This dish is often overlooked but it was a great compliment to the duck and should be savored and appreciated on its own. The Peking duck is outstanding, the garlic green beans are addictive, the mapo tofu is packed with flavor, and the crispy spicy chicken is exactly what I want when I'm craving something with a little heat. Honestly, I haven't found a bad item on the menu. What makes this place even more special to me is how welcoming they've been to my dog. He's clean, well-groomed, perfectly behaved, and happily sits next to me without barking or bothering anyone. The staff has always been incredibly kind and accommodating. I work from home, so my dog and I spend most of our days together. Leaving him behind for long stretches feels like torture, so being able to enjoy a great meal while he tags along makes a huge difference. FINALLY we have another good Chinese spot in town! Glad we waited until the hype died down to check out this spot because I heard the wait times during opening week were crazy. This is hands down THE place in town to get Beijing-style roast duck and la zi ji (spicy fried chicken). I could honestly talk about that chicken all day...the serving size was huge. A solid 4 stars for this restaurant that specializes in duck and dumplings. I finally tried this spot and was not disappointed by the duck. The skin is so crispy and the meat is cooked well. The portion, however, was small for price. Also, you must have a party of 4 to get a whole duck--otherwise you're only allowed a half portion. The duck also comes with duck soup, which was a nice "freebie." The soup wasn't anything special, but it was still appreciated and a nice start to the meal. The soup dumplings had a great outer wrapper and were very soupy, but the seasoning was just slightly off--it was missing some sugar that usually makes soup dumplings have that recognizable hint of sweetness. For the price and the quantity, I recommend you skip the steamed soup dumplings and instead get the pan fried pork soup buns. These fried buns are essentially bigger versions of the soup dumplings but have a crispy crust (but same thing wrapper) and tons of soup (& meat filling). There is black vinegar at each table, but I do wish they brought out freshly julienned ginger to add to the vinegar in order to make it an authentic sauce to add to the soup dumplings/fried pork buns. It is more of a casual vibe here, and service was quick. I probably won't revisit here unless I am craving some duck. read more

The food deserves way beyond a 5 star rating. They're still working out the kinks so the service is slow and unorganized. Someone should be greeting guests and show them where to check in- which is just to the left when you walk in. More than likely you won't see it because there will be a crowd. We ordered way too much food but wanted to try so many things! We had the half duck, cheese crab puffs, shrimp pork & chive dumplings and the vegan sesame sauce noodle. All of the dishes were incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. They also serve a delicious soup at the beginning which was a nice surprise! Warning: extremely loud inside. So excited we have this restaurant in San Antonio. We ordered the mushroom soup dumplings, green beans, the whole duck, and crab rangoons. My favorite thing I had were the soup dumplings, I had not found good soup dumplings in SA yet and these I definitely plan on going back for. Their chili oil was also super tasty. The duck was good as well, my only wish is that they had the bao buns but that's my personal preference with Peking duck. The soup that comes with the duck is super flavorful and felt very light as well. My husband loved the crab rangoons as well. The service was really fast as well. Exciting to see more Asian restaurants open around San Antonio. We went around 2:30 on Saturday to avoid the crowds and surprisingly the restaurant was pretty full still. I had to order their duck and an order of their dumplings (hence their name, right?). I got the half duck because my husband didn't want any. Ended up giving him a bite because it was so delicious! There's a korean saying outside crispy and moist in the inside. Thats exactly how the duck was! Also, the thin rice paper/bun was really delicious and complimented well with the duck. This is a Tasty Spot for Dumpling & Duck! We came here a day early to celebrate Father's Day--it was only their second day of soft opening and overall, we were impressed! The space still kind of looks like the old Taco Cabana, but they've done a good job making it feel like their own. The kitchen's open, so you can actually see the dumplings and duck being freshly made, which we loved. We ordered a lot, as in: Peking Duck (delicious and crispy skin juicy meat, though the duck broth soup was served late), Xiao Long Bao (pretty good but were spoiled from Joe's Shanghai in NYC), vegan book Chou and mushy dumplings (so good), shrimp fried rice, curry chicken pot stickers (amazing--reminded us of roti canal), spicy and crispy chicken (tasty but felt out of place), and a few more dishes. Everything was solid overall! Service was friendly-Eileen in particular was super helpful and patient. They're still obviously figuring it things out (lots of server bouncing between tables), but we expect that with a soft opening. Glad we came early--the line got long fast. I been looking for a place here in San Antonio that has decent soup dumplings for a long time. Well this place has the best in town that competes with my favorite from Austin which is Julie's noodle. They are house made and is the only place in San Antonio that has the flavor I'm use too and full of juice. Top place to go with great and quick service. It's pretty big but seems to be filled at all time. Might have to wait but it's worth it. Most dishes are family style or at least big enough to share. I will say this is a more authentic version of Chinese food and you won't find many of the Americanized Chinese options. The service was great and we were given great recommendations.
