Cold days, are the perfect excuse to visit Kuriya inside The Cherrity Bar! This amazing restaurant serves Japanese style small plates, and ramen bowls. They also have a program where they support different local nonprofits every month and you can vote for your favorite one. During my last visit I ordered their charred and spicy edamame and tonkatsu ramen. The edamame was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I've ordered a few other times in the past and it came a little too toasted, so it can be a hit or miss depending on the day. The tonkatsu however was absolutely perfection. The broth was packed with flavor, the pork was very tender and the flavor in the mushrooms was amazing. They also have some pretty stellar specials throughout the week, like $6 Miso Ramen for lunch on Tuesdays, $4 Highwheel Draft Beers and $6 Palomas on Mondays. The kushi sampler had great texture but the sauces were a little too salty. Their ramen from the secret menu was subpar. The spicy pork shoyu had 0 spice/was very bland. Also, it had less ingredients than their normal ramens. Service was as expected and no major complaints in that regard. The outdoor space seemed very nice but was not open for service when we got there. Where we were seated indoors, there was condensation dripping on me from one of their vents. My friend and I were looking for nearby Ramen Restaurants and we stumbled upon Kuriya. I was intrigued by how the food was presented and had to give it a try. When we arrived we noticed the sign right away and were excited to try out the tasty food. We got to the restaurant at about the time they opened and they greeted us right away to a table. We had no problems and had the most chill server. She made me feel welcomed by giving us cooked edamame as a treat for being a new customer! The vibe was super comfortable and seemed like a place where you could do some studying as well. There is a great divide between food and ambiance. They combined Kuriya with Cherrity Bar, I was super confused, repurposed and very mismatched. Parking is available on the other side of the street and walking up to the middle reception area was interesting. Keep in mind, I kept an open mind and expected decent ramen. Soooo, walking up to the outside reception asking if we want to sit inside or outside, opting for inside, they sat as to the left and first available sitting tall table right by the entrance. I'm kind of vertically challenged and did not feel comfortable eating ramen on a high table DX So we were seated and left to fend for ourselves by the host. Looked around a bit and found so much seating areas lower to my level ~ sat down, waited for about 7 minutes and were greeted by our server/waiter. Menu, btw is digital QR. We knew we want to try ramen and went with our usual Tantan Ramen and Tonkatsu, to make sure our opinions remain unbiased. Tan tan ramen was good, better and lighter than the previous place, enjoyed the grilled broccoli, most of all. Same goes with the Tonkatsu, better broth, but the chashu didn't have a great char or color... kinda missing a bit of the umami. This place is absolutely delicious. When I arrived at the restaurant, I thought the set up was so cute and trendy. We sat outside even though it was cold, but the heat lamps helped. I arrived late to the party and although there were not many people at the restaurant to begin with, I had to ask for a plate, silverware, and a napkin all on different occasions. If the waiter had remembered that themself and the service weren't so slow even on a slow night, I would've given a 5 star review. Food wise, I would definitely come back. We got the Belly Bao appetizer that resembled a Bao taco on a rock slab; great presentation and flavor. For my entree I got Tonkotsu Ramen and it was also great and not spicy. The mushrooms were marinated in the most delicious sweet marinade before being breaded, and then skewered paired with a spicy Mayo dipping sauce. Next time I may just order those for a meal. Rating ramen. To vegetarian/vegan interested in trying their veg ramen/tofu. Broth is heavy on clove/cinnamon I can't tell what spice but it's too strong for me personally. Mushrooms are cut into huge, thick slices. Was not a fan of the cut. It was another layer of the soup that was throwing off my senses. Theres "skin" around the tofu. The spicy sauce was extra but we got that to try. All the apps were ok nothing to write home about but the kaarage were soggy and no crunch and it was in a pulk of oil :( the gyoza had a crunch skirt but the gyoza it was ok. I got to say that the tonkatsu ramen was very flavorful but it was quite salty. The noodles were chewy and a good texture and the char siu was decent. And as I'm writing this it went from 3 stars to three stars because it was really salty. Also it should be noted that if we wanted to make the tonkatsu spicy or add spicy to it that it would be an additional 1.00 it's not much but neither was the amount that we got. The char siu don was ok according to my nephew but I think it was only ok because there was a ginger mixture to it and it just wasn't what he wanted. read more

Although my colleague enjoyed the sliders, I felt that they were a bit soggy. The gyozas were only ok, because they used the ribs of the kimchi, which was hard and difficult to eat. They should have chopped up the kimchi before wrapping them. The menu was quite fusion with Chinese, Japanese and Korean influence. They had an assortment of craft beer and a full bar.
