The Volcano Roll it was so yummy
Christopher M.

This little hole in the wall Sushi restaurant is so good I definitely recommend the Volcano Sushi Roll it was the absolute yummiest sushi I've ever had!

Spicy Tuna, Shrimp Tempura

Worked up an appetite after a Sunday stroll on the river walk. Stumbled upon The Brick and Sukeban sushi. The restaurant sits tucked in a lovely corner nook. I was accompanied by 3 of my relatives and we decided to have a sit and a late lunch. Upon entering was greeted by a friendly face. The restaurant had just opened up so we had seating of our choice. To Start we each had a Miso soup( superb, btw) followed by an order of pork gyoza and spring rolls. While we munched and yapped on our apps, we made our decisions on what rolls we were going to share. I decided to order from Makizushi menu. Simple and deliciously fresh to order sushi rolls. Prices ranged from $6 and up. I ordered a tempura roll and a California roll. This cozy corner offers a variety of delicious options. Best part is you can definitely find something on a budget and also you can splurge on more elaborate specialty rolls! After we enjoyed our fill. We wandered around The Brick to thrift and check out some cool art. One thing to note is that parking can be tricky especially at night, but well worth the fuss. I can't wait to go back!

Love this sushi place in southtown! The service is always spectacular, and the restaurant is cozy, calm, amd very modern. There's a good amount of indoor seating for both small and big groups! Go-to order is the Philadelphia roll because of the goat cheese. The chicken yakitori is sweet, salty, and deliciousAlso love their sushi and sashimi dishes. Our waitress was super sweet and explained everything on the menu when we had questions. Parking is easy; there's a lot right across from the entrance to Halcyon. There's also a ton of cool art shops and bars in the area too!

We're fairly new to the area. The girls asked for sushi and this place is literally up the street. We're temporarily housed at the Big Tex Flats, so it's about a 5-7min walk. I phoned in my order and they said it would take about 40min. Everything tasted good and fresh! All of the "hot foods" were still relatively warm by the time I got the food and made the mini trek back to the apartment. I appreciate that they kept the "spicy" sauce separate from the edamame, allowing me to control the spicy level and not get the edamame too soggy. We've had sushi up and down the east coast && I have to admit that we were VERY skeptical of sushi with goat cheese vice cream cheese (e.g., Philly roll). But it was surprisingly good and a much smoother& creamier bite. Both of my girls liked the Philly roll and liked that it had both avocado and cucumber. The same comment goes for their cheese wonton, which also used goat cheese. We really really enjoyed those. I was hoping for a chili vinaigrette based cucumber salad but this wasn't bad. In fact, I ate the entire container (in two sittings tho). Even the 6 y/o thought it was good. The edamame was okay - what you expect from edamame but could use a nice punch of salt. However, for those watching their sodium intake, this is a good way to serve it. So I added my own sea salt flakes. Everyone enjoyed the gyoza. Husband had the king crab roll. He didn't really voice any comments about it, but considering that he ate it all, I'll say it was a win win. I had the shrimp tempura roll. It was a pretty mild and basic roll but good. My eldest also had the volcano roll. I tried a piece and it was yum! Had a LOT going on lol but I guess that's the "volcano erupting." We spent about $100 on this meal. A bit pricier than back home (MD prices) but I'm also not complaining too much about it. It was a pretty solid meal. Sadly, we're moving up/over? to the northwest side. So I doubt that I'd go out of my way to come back here, but who knows? If I find myself back in Southtown and I'm craving sushi, I'd probably swing by here.

Spicy Tuna, Kareshi Roll, Southtown Roll, and Bluestar Roll

I'm so happy I found this place for date night. Service was fast and waitress was kind. Sushi was delicious. I'd definitely recommend the Southtown and my husband would recommend the Bluestar. We ordered two other rolls that were delicious too the Kareshi & a classic Spicy Tuna roll. We also enjoyed the pork gyoza (not pictured). Wasn't packed but wasn't empty for a Friday night. We had no complaints!

By far our favorite sushi bar! The preparation, taste and knowing how good the chefs know their food craft We love our server, and always look forward to dining in for dinner and drinks! Keep up the great work!

Sukeban impressed me. The service was really good and the server had great recommendations. We started with the spring rolls that were crispy light with flavor and amazing sauce. All the rolls we had were great but . I would suggest the shrimp tempura roll. Will definitely be coming back here. Love the dark, dim, relaxing sushi, bar vibe

Futomaki and all the fresh fish as nigiri.

Wonderful sushi bar. Great chef who was more than happy to handle customer requests. Superb fish. Very fresh. Large nigiri pieces and hefty rolls. If you're looking for a real sushi bar in San Antonio, this is the place.

Yakisoba Chicken Noodles

Sushi and Champagne!? Yes please! This place is a great spot for a date, too bad I went with my friends lol Either way the food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The noodles were very tasty and had a great consistency. The roll was pretty basic, but then again we ordered a basic roll. I can't wait to go back and try out some more stuff.

Finally got to try Sukeban and really enjoyed it!! Great, relaxed atmosphere hidden in Blue Star Area. Cozy space with good music playlist. Parking will be tricky on a busy night. Service was wonderful and food was gooood! They have a nice wine selection and I noted that the bar would be a comfortable setting for solo dining as well. They have QR menus which I hate, wish they had paper menus like the good ole days. Their soup was so flavorful and delicious and the sushi was 10/10. Yakisoba Noodles were good, but preferred the sushi. Will definitely be returning!

I came in because I saw their signage out front showing $6 rolls for happy hour (and that they're hiring server). I didn't take a pic because ... brain fart? (I have no idea) Turns out, their happy hour Tue-Thurs 3-6pm. Figured since we are already seated, let's eat. Our server was sweet, she was always available and very attentive--- and I loved her style! She explained the menu and gave opportunity for us to ask questions. I was able to see the Chefs at work! Everything they served was great. I wasn't a big fan of their spicy mayo, but everything else was delish and fulfilling. If you're in the area, check them out!

Pork gyoza
Nancy M.

We went on a Saturday night and we're seated right away. The ambiance is calm and relaxed. Server was friendly. We had the pork gyoza, blue star roll and ramen. The dumplings and the sushi were delicious 10/10. I would skip the ramen next time as the broth was bland. The pork in the ramen was very flavorful but the broth had no flavor. Although I did not try anything from the bar, they have a nice selection of wine and sake.

The listening bar concept paired with their state-of-the-art custom sound system makes the atmosphere feel immersive from the second you walk in. The music, lighting, and outstanding service all work together perfectly when you're trying to unwind and decompress after a long week. The lychee martini was smooth, refreshing, and extremely lychee forward. I really enjoyed how they garnished the drink with two whole lychees. I was in heaven and I can honestly say this was one of my favorite cocktails I've had in the city (Thanks for the recommendation Annabelle). Food-wise, everything felt elevated and pieced together beautifully on each plate. The truffle creamy miso soup was warm & comforting with just the right amount of depth and the Asian pear cucumber salad was perfect to cleanse the palate after the soup. The Hawaiian ono was another standout that absolutely delivered. That cilantro oil and the yuzu dance together well with the soft & silky ono. I also really enjoyed the scallop crudo, it also has cilantro oil but this time with ponzu foam. This combination was so good that I absolutely had no shame sipping the married liquid components on the plate between each bite of scallop. Lastly, the wagyu mochi gnocchi is unreal--rich, melt in your mouth mochi gnocchi, savory shrimp and tender wagyu, and this velvety sauce that's semi addicting. This surf-and-turf style dish with seafood and wagyu is where Yozora really flexes; every bite felt balanced, indulgent, and beautifully plated. (This particular evening the sauce on the mochi gnocchi was a touch spicier for me than the first time I visited but I enjoyed every last bite nonetheless). I went a little ham and didn't have room for dessert this time unfortunately. Next time Huge shoutout to my server Annabelle, who made the entire night seamless. My water never even got close to empty, her recommendations were spot on, and she somehow balanced taking care of the bar while still making her tables feel attended to. The rest of the staff even tag teamed service throughout the dining room which I always enjoy seeing. It says a lot about how well the staff and overall concept works together there. Symphony for the soul. Thank you again Annabelle and team for making the whole evening easy to enjoy and adding so much to the experience. Yozora absolutely lives up to the hype. Add it to your list of spots to keep coming back for.

1 Star - Misleading Practices, Contradictory Rules, and Terrible Management…read more This was a very bad experience entirely because of the manager. We clearly told the staff this was our first time visiting, yet no one properly explained the rules, especially regarding over-ordering and leftover charges. When we questioned the extra charges, the manager repeatedly said he "had to stick to the rules" -- rules that were never explained to us. What makes this even worse is that the menu itself states you can't order more than two items per person, yet the staff did not follow that rule. Instead, excessive amounts of food were brought to our table, including full adult-sized portions for kids, and then we were charged for the leftovers. This felt intentional and misleading, clearly designed to overcharge customers. The biggest issue was the contradictory explanation about kids' pricing. The manager told us kids are half price because they don't eat as much as adults, yet at the same time insisted kids must receive full adult portions because they "can't tell us how much to order" and that it would be "rude" to do so. When questioned how that makes any sense, he had no explanation. To make matters worse, the kids' age rule kept changing -- first it was 13 and under, then suddenly 12 and under. Completely inconsistent and unprofessional. When we tried to have a reasonable conversation, the manager was rude, dismissive, and refused to accommodate us in any way. We told him we would be leaving a bad review due to the poor management and unfair practices, and he openly said he was "okay with that." He chose to charge us $30 for leftover food instead of resolving the issue, fully accepting a bad review and leaving his own waitstaff without a tip because of his behavior. No transparency. No accountability. No customer service. Families should be extremely cautious. We will not be returning.

The plates come when they are ready and I have to say the food came really quick! All of it was fantastic! Surprisingly the shredded vegetable salad was amazing and one of my favorite dishes!
