Bakudan Ramen is a really awesome spot. The atmosphere is clearly anime-focused, which I loved. There are a ton of anime decorations everywhere, TVs playing anime while you eat, and even a bar if you're into that. I had a coffee with a spicy tequila twist, which was actually pretty cool. Now let's talk about the Chicharrón Ramen -- honestly, it's pretty badass. Definitely different, but in a good way. It comes with avocado (which I loved), a full seasoned egg (huge plus for me), cilantro, and corn. That alone tells me they're trying to give you a complete, well-thought-out bowl. The broth was spicy and really flavorful. The chicharrón was very soft, which I personally liked a lot. Overall, it was a delicious bowl and something different from your usual ramen experience. I wouldn't say it's an everyday order for me, but it's absolutely worth trying at least once. Definitely recommend giving this item a one-time try off their menu. read more

I can't remember the names of the ramen we ordered but they were delicious! They were served at the perfect temperature where it's not too hot that it'll burn you. This is a cute little restaurant it felt like you were walking into China town also the tables are pretty small and they had partitions to give you privacy. Our waitress came to give us waters and tell us about the menu since it was our first time there. She answered all of our questions. I decided to get the ahi tuna nachos for an appetizer and my husband and kid got the fried dumplings. They were both amazing. My kid and husband liked the dumplings so much they got another order. For our meals we all got ramen. Turns out we are Ramen snobs because we didn't care for the noodles. They seemed like spaghetti noodles. But we all enjoyed the toppings. My kid kept it simple with just chicken and noodles, my husband had chicken, noodles, scallions, and spinach. He said it had way too many greens for him. I really liked the veggie ramen and that I could add items made it easy to work around my shellfish allergy. I added an egg and two bombs for extra flavor. I usually enjoy this place. I've been here a number of times and normally enjoy their ramen and apps. This day I had the poke nachos and shishito peppers because I wasn't hungry enough for ramen. I thought the nachos were okay, but not a lot of tuna. The pieces were chopped up super small but the wonton chips are so big. At least the spicy mayo had good flavor. Heads up, this is not for someone that doesn't like cilantro, because they pack it on. The shishito peppers is one of my fave sides at other Japanese restaurants, but here it's not great. The peppers are not crispy enough, so it's hard to chew through the skin. And the flavoring was just straight up chili oil. My partner got the Cilantro Chicken Ramen, but she said it was bland this time. Needed more lime and flavor. Lastly, the grossest part of my review...We decided to sit outside this day because the inside of the restaurant was really cold. They have their fans blasting. But in the outside patio they have these high-top tables, so I sat with my feet perched. Apparently my pants were rubbing against the bottom side of the tables and got all this gunk on my pants. It was so gross and I noticed it a bit during the meal, but didn't notice my other knee was covered in gunk until after we left. So maybe clean the under side of those patio tables? The service sitting out there wasn't great either. We were barely checked on and it took forever for us to get our check. We might still eat here again, but maybe inside where it's likely cleaner. read more

Bakudan Ramen is officially on my repeat list. I ordered the appetizer wings and the cilantro ramen soup--and I was blown away by both. The wings came out perfectly crispy with a bold, flavorful glaze that had just the right kick. As for the cilantro ramen... I'm still dreaming about it. Super fragrant, rich broth, and the cilantro added such a refreshing, unique twist that made it stand out from typical ramen bowls. The restaurant itself had a really cool vibe--modern, welcoming, and not too loud. Great spot to chill and enjoy good food. You can tell they care about the experience. Was honestly very surprised by how amazing service was despite how busy the restaurant was. We received quick service and knowledgeable responses from our server. i unfortunately don't remember her name but she wore glasses and was great at giving us some space to chomp down our meal! For an appetizer I usually get the Gyoza which is also one of the best I have had around town. The service is usually quick and friendly as well. The wait staff is always very personable. Ramen was our comfort food after an awesome hike and a chilly morning! Located at the Rim, somehow I managed to grab a parking spot right up near the restaurant. Direct parking is limited, but there is a parking structure nearby. Hostess was not too friendly- no greeting, not much of a happy demeanor, and wanted to seat us up by open door where it was super chilly, but we opted to move away. Nice interior decor, pink overhead lights, small interior, but cozy. Our server Brooke was friendly. We ordered a kettle of green tea to warm us up and I opted for the garlic tonkotsu. Anytime I try a new ramen place, my go to is to always try their tonkotsu- their menu stated thick noodles. A big beautiful bowl of ramen arrived. Broth was flavorful, but not that garlicky. It needed a kick, so I ordered their chili paste, 50 cent extra. I still didn't feel it was spicy enough. It would be nice to have complimentary condiments at the table available like chili paste, soy sauce, salt/pepper etc. Noodles did not appear thick to me , when I think of thick of noodles, I think of udon. Checked in with the server, and she confirmed they were thick. Also, just be aware, their noodles are served al dente. Overall, good, but I've had better. A little on the pricier side too. read more

Decided to try this place out. It was decent and happened to have happy hour going on. 6pm was cutoff, some half off appetizers and discounted drinks. We got hot house sake, always good but better with sushi. Tried the ramen, it was good and tasty. I think I did read somewhere that it's handmade daily, I'm not an expert but didn't taste that way. Egg was delicious, good portion. Also got bulgogi bowl with egg (extra charge), amazing! Surprisingly they made the vegetables great, broccoli too. Our server was very attentive and nice. This place has a really cool vibe, the place is always busy with lots of customers, dimmed lighting and they always have good music playing. I really like the theme that they have going. When you step into this place its like stepping into some little street restaurant on some back street in Asia. The staff is always very friendly and your food is usually served fresh, fast and cooked perfect. I love the whole atmosphere of the restaurant. It's very Chinatown inside. They do have music on. It is a little bit loud. You can still hear your conversation with others. Our waitress came by often enough. The food was good. My friends ordered Roman and they love theirs. I ordered the bibimbap stone pot. It was full of vegetables. You could add protein to it if you'd like. I also ordered the shrimp bun. Very good appetizer. You could also make it into a meal by ordering more than one. I had their samurai drink. My sister and I recently stopped in for lunch. When we arrived, it appeared that they were still opening up, not many people were inside, and we couldn't really tell who was working there. A nice young lady seated us after a couple of minutes. The place is nice and cozy. They have tables set close together, surely in the interest of offering more seating, with little screens to offer more privacy. In theory this is a nice idea until you're trying to get someone's attention for the check. We started with a shrimp steam bun, a chicken steam bun, and the gyoza. The gyoza was delicious. Hot, a slight crisping on the outside, and full of flavor. The shrimp bun was my favorite. The shrimp was jumbo and tasty and the bun was light and airy. It was just a great bite. I had high hopes for the fried chicken bun, but it was a let down. The piece of chicken was tiny, overdone, and dry. The bun was perfect, but together it was just ok. I ordered the bibimbap stone pot with noodles, which was admittedly a mistake. I should have gotten the rice. The noodles were good and tasted buttery, which I wasn't expecting, but it was just a little difficult to eat without making a mess. The veggies were nice and crunchy, not overcooked and soft. The noodles seemed a little overdone, but I do like them that way. Overall it was a good meal. I'll probably come again and try some different things. read more

We decided to grab a late lunch at Bakudan Ramen. Bakudan is located in the popular "Rim" mall area east of i10 just outside 1604. Found parking just across the road and we headed in. Great corner location near the roundabout. Very cool interior. We were seated right away. A QR code on the table provided a link to their menu. We ordered a Margarita and a Long Island Ice Tea... Their mixologist knew his craft and they were top-shelf. This is one of those spots, I would recommend even if you just wanted great drinks! We ordered the Bakudan spicy edamame for a starter and then chatted with the server who was very helpful in recommending a couple items she thought were exceptional. We ended up ordering the Spicy Umami Miso Ramen and one of their less-spicy chicken Bowls. The presentation on the Spicy Umami Miso Ramen was tremendous (see the pic) The flavors were fantastic Both were really excellent! We found ourselves discussing what we would try on our next visit... Food was simply phenomenal. We were in the area and decided to pop in and give them a try. We have been to a majority of ramen places in San Antonio and left unimpressed. This place just unseated Ramen Tatsuya as our favorite Raman spot. I had the Bakudan Salad. The serving size was plenty and I was full before I finished. My son picked the Garlic Tonkotsu and added the San Antonio bomb. The flavors paired perfectly. The spice level was not overwhelming. By far, the best broth I have tasted.
