Everything was so good at my recent stop here. I love the ambiance. They have good seating options. They have a great happy hour and the food is delicious. Our server was so nice and just the whole experience was a vibe. I can't wait to go back.
If you like ramen, this is the place to try! Their spicy miso ramen was solid and they have a nice cocktail menu selection. The lychee lemongrass cocktail was great and refreshing. The vibes in here were awesome so highly recommend!
I can't remember the names of the ramen we ordered but they were delicious! They were served at the perfect temperature where it's not too hot that it'll burn you. Our bartender was very attentive and kept our drinks filled. It was pretty busy when we arrived luckily for us, we found seats at the bar top! I love ramen and I will be back to try more items on the menu!
This is a cute little restaurant it felt like you were walking into China town also the tables are pretty small and they had partitions to give you privacy. Our waitress came to give us waters and tell us about the menu since it was our first time there. She answered all of our questions. I decided to get the ahi tuna nachos for an appetizer and my husband and kid got the fried dumplings. They were both amazing. My kid and husband liked the dumplings so much they got another order. For our meals we all got ramen. Turns out we are Ramen snobs because we didn't care for the noodles. They seemed like spaghetti noodles. But we all enjoyed the toppings. My kid kept it simple with just chicken and noodles, my husband had chicken, noodles, scallions, and spinach. He said it had way too many greens for him. I really liked the veggie ramen and that I could add items made it easy to work around my shellfish allergy. I added an egg and two bombs for extra flavor. It was pretty good we would go back next time we visit San Antonio and are in the arwa.
I always love a great ramen spot, and this definitely hit the spot. We arrived at about 11:30 and were promptly sat and gave our order the appetizers were great and we went with the waitress suggestion of karaage chicken and fried gyoza. The items fresh and delicious. The entrees were great as well went with ramen and the curry rice bowl. I will definitely return again!
Very disappointing experience. The portion size was extremely small for the price, and even basic toppings like eggs and vegetables cost extra. The overall value for money was terrible. On top of that, the ramen itself tasted below average and nothing special at all. Definitely not worth the price.
Bakudan Ramen is a really awesome spot. The atmosphere is clearly anime-focused, which I loved. There are a ton of anime decorations everywhere, TVs playing anime while you eat, and even a bar if you're into that. I had a coffee with a spicy tequila twist, which was actually pretty cool. Now let's talk about the Chicharrón Ramen -- honestly, it's pretty badass. Definitely different, but in a good way. It comes with avocado (which I loved), a full seasoned egg (huge plus for me), cilantro, and corn. That alone tells me they're trying to give you a complete, well-thought-out bowl. The broth was spicy and really flavorful. The chicharrón was very soft, which I personally liked a lot. Overall, it was a delicious bowl and something different from your usual ramen experience. I wouldn't say it's an everyday order for me, but it's absolutely worth trying at least once. Definitely recommend giving this item a one-time try off their menu.
Wonderful service at this lovely establishment! Our server was fantastic. We sat outside on the patio, which was calm, great music, and no road noise. The food was delicious; I got a lemonade and the veggie ramen, yum! Large portions.
Delicious food, very kind server, attentive to my kids, even brought them chopstick "helpers"!! So great! Ambiance was a bit loud for family environment, music was loud we couldn't talk at regular volume, granted I prefer conversing during a meal but I know many enjoy the loud ambiance!
We're returning customers and Bakudan Ramen never disappoints! We come here pretty often, and this visit was just as great as always. We made it just in time for happy hour after a shopping date, perfect timing! The drinks were on point, the food was amazing, and the service was super fast. It's always a solid choice for a casual night out.
I usually enjoy this place. I've been here a number of times and normally enjoy their ramen and apps. This day I had the poke nachos and shishito peppers because I wasn't hungry enough for ramen. I thought the nachos were okay, but not a lot of tuna. The pieces were chopped up super small but the wonton chips are so big. At least the spicy mayo had good flavor. Heads up, this is not for someone that doesn't like cilantro, because they pack it on. The shishito peppers is one of my fave sides at other Japanese restaurants, but here it's not great. The peppers are not crispy enough, so it's hard to chew through the skin. And the flavoring was just straight up chili oil. My partner got the Cilantro Chicken Ramen, but she said it was bland this time. Needed more lime and flavor. Lastly, the grossest part of my review...We decided to sit outside this day because the inside of the restaurant was really cold. They have their fans blasting. But in the outside patio they have these high-top tables, so I sat with my feet perched. Apparently my pants were rubbing against the bottom side of the tables and got all this gunk on my pants. It was so gross and I noticed it a bit during the meal, but didn't notice my other knee was covered in gunk until after we left. So maybe clean the under side of those patio tables? The service sitting out there wasn't great either. We were barely checked on and it took forever for us to get our check. We might still eat here again, but maybe inside where it's likely cleaner.
Was honestly very surprised by how amazing service was despite how busy the restaurant was. We received quick service and knowledgeable responses from our server. i unfortunately don't remember her name but she wore glasses and was great at giving us some space to chomp down our meal! We had the happy hour gyoza, chicken bun, a shrimp ramen and the vegetarian ramen. Everything was absolutely savory and well worth the price. It felt great slurping on some hot and fresh noodles after freezing outside! Definitely recommend every item i listed above. It was all presented well and fresh :)

This made our day. So glad you loved the ramen and that the tebasaki…
Absolute best experience and phenomenal food! We had the absolute best server. He explained the entire menu to us, what his favorites were, what were the most popular, and gave us details on the consistency and flavors! The building was very clean, and the esthetic was really creative! I HIGHLY recommend their ramen! They make their noodles every single morning from scratch! The curry was so flavorful, and the chicken had the BEST crunch ever from the fried crisp! Absolutely delicious! read more

Our first time eating here. I'm pleasantly surprised. No wait. We sat down immediately. Very charming. I always thought that I'd expect hearing Kansas play in a Ramen restaurant . It was great, too. Ramen was our comfort food after an awesome hike and a chilly morning! Located at the Rim, somehow I managed to grab a parking spot right up near the restaurant. Direct parking is limited, but there is a parking structure nearby. Hostess was not too friendly- no greeting, not much of a happy demeanor, and wanted to seat us up by open door where it was super chilly, but we opted to move away. Nice interior decor, pink overhead lights, small interior, but cozy. Our server Brooke was friendly. We ordered a kettle of green tea to warm us up and I opted for the garlic tonkotsu. Anytime I try a new ramen place, my go to is to always try their tonkotsu- their menu stated thick noodles. A big beautiful bowl of ramen arrived. Broth was flavorful, but not that garlicky. It needed a kick, so I ordered their chili paste, 50 cent extra. I still didn't feel it was spicy enough. It would be nice to have complimentary condiments at the table available like chili paste, soy sauce, salt/pepper etc. Noodles did not appear thick to me , when I think of thick of noodles, I think of udon. Checked in with the server, and she confirmed they were thick. Also, just be aware, their noodles are served al dente. Overall, good, but I've had better. A little on the pricier side too. read more

The food was definitely authentic. It was yummy! I ordered the garlic ramen which I couldn't remember which one of the pictures it was .. It was very authentic I think a little too authentic for me if that makes sense. My taste buds weren't used to eating food with this type of flavor just because it was so authentic! The chicken cilantro one was super yum if you love the taste of cilantro! And one of the pictures was a spicy kind of ramen it was good! The service was great our server was very helpful and the ambiance was super chill .. nice cozy vibe read more
I think the food was good and the service was also pretty fast. The chicken with curry was alright just a little bit dry. I really liked the chicken karaage and the takoyaki. We went during happy hour so the drinks and appetizers were cheaper (but still pretty expensive). There wasn't a wait, but we went at 5:30 pm and there was still quite a bit of people so I expect during meal times there might be a wait. Overall I thought the food was good but a bit expensive. read more

A friend ate here recently and posted some pictures of the food and it looked amazing so I decided to try. The shrimp Tempura was spongy and I like mine crispy, the Chicken Yakitori was dry. Several people were eating the Ramen which I believe is their Specialty, I am not a Ramen person so will probably not go back to try based on other food. read more

This place has a really cool vibe, the place is always busy with lots of customers, dimmed lighting and they always have good music playing. I really like the theme that they have going. When you step into this place its like stepping into some little street restaurant on some back street in Asia. The staff is always very friendly and your food is usually served fresh, fast and cooked perfect. I always have to twist my order with special request and they always seem to get it perfect (as requested). I really enjoy going to eat here because the food is consistently good, fresh and always full of flavor. They have the best broth and I loved the wings too; they always cooked perfect and tasted great! read more
One word to describe this place is delicious. Made a decision to eat here after shopping at some of the Rim stops and I loved it. The place is elegantly decorated and was not crowded or noisy. I sat outside because it was one of this rare great weather days (not too hot, not too cold). The waiter was very friendly and answered food questions patiently. Food also came out fairly quickly, which was great. I decided on the Vegetarian Ramen for $15.75. I did feel prices were a bit on the high-end, but the portion of Ramen was large, and I had enough leftover for the next day. Place, feel and food were perfect. read more

We have been here, probably at least 100 times and not one time ever have we ever had bad food, with a lot of probability and percentages you would think at least one time, but it's not the case every single time the food is great, and 99% of the time the drinks are great! read more
Decided to try this place out. It was decent and happened to have happy hour going on. 6pm was cutoff, some half off appetizers and discounted drinks. We got hot house sake, always good but better with sushi. Tried the ramen, it was good and tasty. I think I did read somewhere that it's handmade daily, I'm not an expert but didn't taste that way. Egg was delicious, good portion. Also got bulgogi bowl with egg (extra charge), amazing! Surprisingly they made the vegetables great, broccoli too. Our server was very attentive and nice. They did initially play some japanese anime pop music, not a fan.... It was worth the try but will eat at other ramen places before returning. Go for the happy hour drinks! read more

I love the vibe of inside: dim lighting to give the appearance of Asian street nightlife. The menu is small, nothing extravagant but it gives what it needs to- rice or noodles. The service is impeccable, quick and efficient. My friend and I had the garlic tonkotsu ramen. Delicious!! I loved the ability to create your own spice level. The broth was so flavorful. No need to worry about portion size, you will leave full. I absolutely will find myself returning to San Antonio just to visit this place. read more

Ask the Community - Bakudan Ramen
How are the portions for the ramen? in some pics they look like big bowls but in others they don't lol
They are big I never finish all of mine. There is also a kids portion which is smaller.
Do they have gluten free ramen?
They do offer it and it does not have to be spicy. Just ask.
Do they make their own noodles (fresh)?
I've never asked. They sure do taste like it though. Food is fresh every time I go!
Can their veggie ramen be made vegan?
The noodles contain egg so not 100% vegan but close enough.
