Probably the worst pharmacy to send anything to because they don't pick up their phone - I've been on hold for 2 hours and it still says there's one person in front of me (It went from 2 people to 1 person after 1 hour - do they only have one person staffed to answer phone calls? How long does one person take?) I honestly think the only reason the queue is now 1 person is because everyone else has given up! This is the fourth time I've called the pharmacy - I've never been connected with a human before. If you go in person to the pharmacy, they're helpful, just really busy. Pretty decent Duane Reade on Bedford Ave. Smaller upper floor space where you'll find the cashiers and refrigerated drinks. Lower level is where everything else is. Mini market area, food items, pharmacy, self care items, and everything else. Escalator and elevator. For the ladies there is a nice cosmetics and skin care selection, along with a Birchbox area. Really clean and organized shelves. I found the staff nice too. read more

Horrible pharmacy! i work at a veterinary clinic (which will remain unnamed.) and I've had the worst experience with this pharmacy. The employees that answer the phone lack training both in the field of pharmacology and with clients/customers. Very rude phone manners and lack of interest to get the order done in a timely manner. I was told that if talking to a pharmacist takes too long (usually waiting on hold over 15 minutes.) that I should just leave a message, only to have them tell the clients that they never got a voice mail. i asked them about this and they stated "sometimes the voice mails are deleted." I asked how? and by who? to which they answered "I don't know and hung up." I have already advised ALL the clients that need medications to avoid this pharmacy at all cost and that we would be more than happy to call another for them and offer local, timely and consistent alternatives to this crappy pharmacy. This post is not meant to put down the pharmacy for no reason but to warn clients and hopefully to catch the attention on any managers at the pharmacy to change their training and oversight to better serve the clients and community. read more

I'd recommend you stay away: staff who unfortunately aren't very helpful and seem to have very low agency in terms of solving problems. Their photo system in particular is a flat-out scam: tons of stuff online that says you can print it same-day here, but apparently that's a lie. There is something so wrong with this pharmacy. They are consistently out of multiple of my prescribed medications. They text you that your prescription is ready but when you arrive they say they have yet to fill it and tell you to wait 30 minutes. If you try to speak to a pharmacist on the phone to absolutely make sure that it's ready they'll keep you on hold for over 40 minutes!! So rude as well. I understand this is a busy location but wow I just can't believe how much time I've waisted dealing with trying to get the medication I need. read more

This is an awesome drug store. Located on busy Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, it is a paragon of customer service excellence. Location was what led me into this Duane Reade store. It is a couple of blocks from my Grandson's Preschool, across the street from the Apple Store and just down the block from Whole Foods. Who could ask for more? Knowing that Duane Reade was affiliated with Walgreens, I made a quick stop to ask if they could see my Virginia filled Walgreens prescriptions. What luck that the pharmacy assistant who helped me was Alyssa. Not only could she see my prescriptions, she offered to place the refill orders for me. She went down my list of medications available for refill and inquired about each. What could have been difficult was made easy because of Alyssa. I learned that I could use the Walgreens app for Duane Reade. I receive the same text notifications. Their bags are printed Duane Reade by Walgreens. The pharmacist has also been enormously helpful. After an Urgent Care physician called in a number of prescriptions, I got a text that one of the meds was delayed. I called to ask about the problem. When the pharmacist overheard the conversation he asked to speak to me. He had noticed that one of the drugs was in the same classification as a med I'm severely allergic to. He volunteered to call the doctor and get a replacement that would work for me. Needless to say, this has become my pharmacy of choice in Brooklyn. The upper level, which fronts Bedford, consists of items you might pick up while walking down the street. Thirsty? Need cool water, snacks or a soda? A quick stop, then you're on your way. Take the escalator down a level to reach the main drugstore. Street parking is very difficult in this area of Williamsburg. I usually combine Duane Reade & Whole Foods shopping. Park in the Whole Foods underground garage. Make a quick visit to Duane Reade then Whole Foods grocery shopping. It can all be done in the 90 minutes allowed in Whole Foods parking. The pharmacy operation is an absolute joke. In a time when automated pharmacy startups are taking over, you would think they would do anything to remind consumers why going in store is still a better route. I'd say that 1/10 times I've been here was my prescription ready. Most of the time they simply can't find it because whoever created their filing system was high as a kite. I like desperately need to know who is the manager of this store or pharmacy. It's quite literally the most poorly run operation in the 5 boroughs...and that's saying something. Slow all around. Often a long line that sends me right back out the door. What's more frustrating is the pharmacy. Don't come during peak hours (lunch, after work, etc). The line is often backed up to the escalators. I typically end up waiting 20+ minutes for a script that's already ready for pickup. Painfully slow. Completely inefficient. No sense of urgency whatsoever. It's mind boggling. Need new mana UPDATE: Slow even in off peak hours. I have literally never gotten efficient service here. I LOVE YOU DUANE READE ON BEDFORD! This is a new breed of Duane Reade you will not find elsewhere, in all of Brooklyn nor in the city. Despite what many residents think of the insatiable chain's takeover, it is a true treat to Williamsburg. The main floor enters a walk-in beer storage room. Most Duane Reade's lack the space to even sell chilled beer. PLUS! There's also a station where you can purchase a growler of tap beer. SUPER PLUS! I was told by the manager that the selection changes every 2 or so weeks and that tastings are held from time to time. Free beer? SUPER DUPER PLUS! Lacking a real supermarket, DR covers the much needed niche of essential market produce and frozen foods taking up about half of the lower level. A quarter of the bottom floor is taken by Beauty products. I can't complain, this is one of the best things that has happened in the neighborhood. For the loyal followers of King's Pharmacy, reluctance to shop at chains is the norm and oh soo cool in this neighborhood but let's be serious, DR's bubbly staff delivers superior customer service which surpasses King's Pharmacy any day. I stoped using them for a while and started getting prescriptions delivered to work via Capsule, but since Covid it's just easier to pick them up since I live a block away. Yes, you heard that right... this Duane Reade has beer taps where you can bring in your own growlers and they fill them up with whatever craft beer you'd like that they have available!! Otherwise, it's a Duane Reade, people. What the fuck else were you expecting out of a Duane Reade thats like every other?? Except, this one has beer taps and you can bring in your own growlers that they will refill for you!! If you forgot your growler or just want one, they sell them there to you for a few dollars, like $5-$6ish for a 64 oz. Refill prices: 64oz: $9.99 32oz: $5.99 I go about 1-2 times a week. Walk in with about 2-3 growlers in hand, skim by the registers holding my growlers up, they acknowledge me and call for someone, walk the 10 feet to the taps, wait like 2 minutes, then someone comes up and starts filling up all my growlers. They wash them off, I give a few dollars for a tip, walk to the register, pay, leave, then head home with a ton of beer. All from a Duane Reade!! I love this place, mainly for Brew York City, they also have a nifty beer cellar right next to the taps with a huge selection of beers. Otherwise, it's a fuckin Duane Reade, people! This is one of the better Duane Reade's in NYC. I usually get my rx's sent here and don't have any issues picking them up. They text and call me when they're ready or if there is a problem with my rx, such as not in stock or not covered by my plan etc. They usually also always have many toiletry items in stock that I frequently use, I make sure to stock up when there is a sale. Unfortunately, people shoplift a ton at drugstores, especially the cosmetic department, so there may be more vigilance in that area of the store. The employees at this location have always helped me when they see me cluelessly looking for an item. The only true downside to this place is that there is ZERO reception downstairs, which you would need to go to for picking up prescriptions. That can be a bummer when you need to look something up or call your MD because they forgot something. I really hope that they do something about this, however, for all the years that I have been coming to this place, there has been nothing done about it. read more

Avoid this place at any cost. The staff is rude and grossly unprofessional. I went there on Sunday night. It took them almost an hour to fill one prescription. My partner was there during the week. He checked in, waited to fill a Rx for 45 min. After 45 had passed, the clerk told him that it was an over the counter medication. Needless to say, the clerk had never apologized. God, you are the fucking goddamn worst. King's pharmacy was closed due to the Labor Day holiday, and I have a sick boyfriend at home ... so a Duane Reade run was inevitable. I do not appreciate getting charged a bottle deposit (times two!) for Gatorade when, on the bottle of said gatorade, there is NO NEW YORK STATE RECYCLING. I do not appreciate, when I brought it to the cashier (AND the same "manager" dude with spiky hair and a tie from my last train wreck of a trip there), I was met with blank stares, stammers, and NO offer to refund. There you will be greeted by the raddest 80's playlist and the cutest, and increasingly hip, Latinas from S. 2nd & S. 3rd St. I even saw one of the counter girls wearing Wayfarer Frames! Negative experience with the cashiers who tried to be coy. While ringing me up, the cashier helping her along with the cashier working to the right worked quickly together to withhold my register rewards coupon! I heard the coupon printing and saw the two of them quickly stashing the printed coupon in between the printers. I quickly said to the one ringing me up that I know I am supposed to get a register reward coupon from this transaction and she pretended not to know what I was talking about. She waited at least 10 seconds before giving it to me and said, "oh is it this?" While playing dumb, she kept chuckling for some reason (maybe at the fact that she got called out?) Please do not take things that do not belong to you. Quit playing dumb and do your job honestly. read more

Expect them to not know what you're talking about when you come in to pick up a rx your doctor called in an hour prior, apparently because they haven't bothered checking the voicemail on the line doctors use. Don't expect the pharmacy to answer their phone when you call to find out. Do expect to be told you are the next person in line by the hold system, and to sit there unanswered until you give up fifteen minutes later. Best Duane Reade ever. I never knew Duane Reades came in different grades, but after I visited the new Duane Reade on Bedford, I felt compelled to write about it. Upon entering the Duane Reade, you still get the same Duane Reade feeling...meaning it seems like any other pharmacy/convenience store...until you walk past the registers and see a beer tap with growlers. Taking a page from Whole Foods, this Duane Reade offers growlers for purchase with six beers on tap. Many locally brewed beers and a lot of IPAs. For $11.99, I got my growler, two free mugs, and beer! Brew York City...clever slogan too. Behind the tap is a walk in fridge. You heard me...it's a giant refridgerated room that you walk into. You walk in through sensor doors and immediately feel the chill. All around you are drinks and a huge assortment of beer. I'd say they have the largest selection of beer in Williamsburg. It's like a candy shop for beer. That was just the top floor. You go downstairs and it's another world down there. It feels futuristic (I don't know, I was inebriated) and they have produce and a large assortment of snacks. You completely forget you're in a Duane Reade as you meander through the futuristic aisles with delicious snacks and scrumptious cakes. They also have their pharmacy and a make-up counter down there. The best part of all of this is that this Duane Reade is 24 hours. Five stars? I think so. read more

While this location and the 24 service is super convenient, the service at the pharmacy, from one pharmacist in particular, will keep me away from this place unless absolutely necessary for good. I was attempting to fill a prescription for my boyfriend and the pharmacist refused to fill it. Why? Because the month was changed (by the doctor - same handwriting) on the form from a 2 to a 3. I asked if they would call the doctor's office to verify, they refused. I had the doctor call them to ask if they could fax in a new prescription - he refused. Upon each refusal, both in person and on the phone with the doctor's office when they tried to call it in or send a fax (a very legitimate and large practice on Park Avenue in Manhattan, mind you), the pharmacist was incredibly rude and unreasonable to both myself and the doctor's office. If this was a question of company policy, you would never have known, because he was simply uninformative and curt - beyond rude to my face and actually laughed at me as I walked away, as I was visibly upset at being unable to fill this prescription my boyfriend needed very badly. While I appreciate big business raising the worth of this neighborhood I have lived in for many years now (before the hipster/yuppy mega boom), there is some thing to be said for common courtesy, solid customer service, and just treating people like human beings. It is extremely unfortunate to be treated so poorly. I took my prescription to Napolitano's on Graham and Metropolitan, open until 9pm on weeknights, and they were extremely accommodating and friendly. Even if it's a bit out of the way, I'll be going there from now on. End of story. read more

I totally loved this Duane Reade up until TWICE some fairly expensive items I bought didn't make their way into my shopping bag. When I got home and unpacked, I noticed that they where missing. They where clearly on the receipt. Went back to see about getting these items I paid for, no one wanted to help me. Not even an apology. The manager asked the girl who rang me up if she has them at her register, she said no. Lies. 1st time, it's a mistake. I get it. But twice, I think it's a scam! Finally, a 24-hour duane reade in the neighborhood. It's always clean and organized. There is even a decent grocery section. Their cosmetic section is very neat and well-stocked. I feel a small pang of guilt walking past King's, but hands down, the most expansive DR I've ever been to. I went in for a specific leave-in conditioner (i'm a recovering product junky. God forgives all, right?), which they didn't have. wah. BUT Between the walk-in beer fridge (i've never seen that before) and the tap beer to-go (that's legal?!) i forgot about my product vice and gave into another. :-) And the variety is impressive. Roaming the aisles, I felt like a kid in a candy store: a shiny, pretty candy store that makes you healthier and more attractive. I even found a shade of lipstick I had been stalking out for weeks and didn't have the nerve to buy from MAC ($30 for lipstick? You must'a fell and bumped your head). This place is such a win. The staff was attentive, but not pushy. And the cosmetic section is amazeballs. Their ice cream gave me serious stomach problems, I should have known when I opened the ice cream and it was like 60% melted. I threw up until I couldn't throw up anymore and felt like I was about to die. I thought it could have been something else until my brave af roomie tried it too. Props to Derek. He had the same exact experience despite his sTrOnG sToMaCh I live right around the corner so I obviously saw them moving the ice cream from fridge to fridge like 10 times. They were having freezer problems, and that's all cool, but obviously if your ice cream is consistently melted for weeks IT WILL GO BAD. Not only that but all of their IC (3 freezers full) were piled into one freezer. Meaning nothing was freezing! I let a group of like 4 employees know, pretty sure the pony tail guy was the manager. The response was great: "oh yeah we've had freezer problems." *walk away* NO SH*T BRO!? How about a "sorry" or how about you ask me when I purchased it and which ice cream is poisonous so this doesn't happen again? The incompetence here is insane.
