I've been going to City Chemist for a long time and there's a reason for that. The staff is kind, helpful, and knows the regulars. Even the pharmacist knows me by name. In addition to having the necessities, they have a wide selection of candles and other home goods. The greeting card selection is always solid. 1st time at this location and the worker was so helpful. They have many selections of skin products as well as hair products. They also sell stationaries and bag etc. Those are perfect for gifts! I've been coming here for over a decade and they're practically family at this point. They're always super quick, friendly, professional, and have gone above and beyond in helping me when I was in a pinch. I saw some negative reviews about Rx not being filled and can only say maybe it's due to them being a smaller business than say CVS, Rite Aid, Duane Reade, or Walgreens? I get many uncommon/random prescriptions filled and have never had any issues. read more

This is a "fancy" drugstore for the neighborhood with nice hair/skin products and candles, plus all the basics, and a good pharmacy. It has that family-owned vibe, the people here are really nice. Had to go see my dentist Dr Peritore a few blocks over- as he was in his Brooklyn NY today and i found parking close to this pretty little pharmacy - It was so niche and unique. Upon entry the gal welcomed me Yes ! in #brooklyn so i said hi-She continued to talk and next thing you know I got the most amazing skin cream, moisturizer, and makeup from this lady! I also was able to get some additional items that i needed and kept forgetting. BTW NO ONE WAS ON THEIR PHONE! Superb! The pharmacist was so professional, kind, understanding when i asked for a few items. He came out from behind the counter and walked me to where the items were! Oh my! This was excellent customer care. I was a little surprised as I am not used to this! Mind you i left here buying a few things, gifts, make up and skin care that made me feel better and low and behold i was LATE to the drs office - they were nice too - This neighborhood has #Foodvibes all around. a Must try ! Selection can be a little limited but staff is friendly and they are dog friendly. Great option in the neighborhood to pick up a greeting card or some quick toiletries. Wish they had a better shampoo/conditioner selection. It's a little hodge podge. read more

Okay I hate to update my review. But the employees here today left me hanging here all day. They were supposed to call me when the order came in. They didn't. When I called them they said my prescription would delivered by 4pm. Turns out they had the order in earlier, never called and expected me to wait eight hours for medicine that would relieve my discomfort. I highly recommended this pharmacy a few months ago. The staff was always very friendly and knowledgeable. But this staff couldn't even manage to communicate properly. I would have simply asked someone to had I known my prescription was in. By the way, they were just waiting for their delivery worker all that time I could have recovering. He got to my apartment at the latest possible estimate, 5pm. Not a single apology. read more

OK. Let me first say that I am a sucker for a mom and pop drugstore. The idea of filling my RX at a Duane Reade or a Rite Aid is no fun. There is no old lady who calls you honey and answers the phone with a strong Italian accent....."Pharmacy Nap-ee-oh..." Luckily, they do that at Napolitano. I'm giving Napolitano 3 stars because like the other reviewers I love the lady at the pharmacy counter with the thick and stereotypical Italian accent, however, they messed up and billed my old insurance for a prescription and consequently set off a shit storm of letters from the expired provider. I even specifically told them that I had new insurance and I left them my card to update their systems with. They've since tried to bill my old insurance provider again. You'd like to think that one of the advantages of a mom and pop shop is that they would take the time to call me in this instance to clear up any confusion... Also, they close at 2pm on Sundays -- boooo! I must say the older lady with the accent really trumps all of this. I'm sure I'll forget this whole insurance debacle when she says something along the lines of "I'm sorry-a sweatheart, I'll fix-a that-a right-a away." I have to also give props to the nice young lady at the old Eckerd (I think it's Right Aid now) on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint, though. She's also a ray of sunshine. Update: They were really friendly about the mix up -- however they remain at 3 starts bc they didn't have a bad air sponge or scented candles...I smell bad. read more

Just came back to this pharmacy after their new and improved renovations and I was left in awe of how beautiful everything is coming together and so happy with their expansion and broad selection of products they brought in. The pharmacist and employees of Napolitano are so caring and helpful I refuse to go anywhere else. I appreciate the fact that this place is a non-chain local business, and sometimes I stop in Napolitano just for that reason. But this place BARELY has the essentials and the the staff often seems bothered to help you... it's really a third-tier drug store. Saldo Drugs-- two blocks away at Graham and Skillman-- is also a local shop and is a much better, friendlier choice. read more

Pharmacists keep saying I need my "primary insurance card" for reference, I'm the only one on my insurance, and have never had an issue at any doctor, NY or otherwise. I have been going to City Chemist for many, many years. They were formally known as Napolitano Pharmacy. The pharmacist, Robert, is very knowledgeable. I am on numerous medications and I always speak to him regarding over the counter medication I can take with the prescriptions I take. He takes the time to listen to me and advise me. He is very polite and kind amongst other things. The people that work at City Chemist are also very good with the customers and always willing to help with a smile on their faces. This place has been in rapid decline as of the last few months. I originally moved my prescriptions from Saldo's to Napolitano because they had better hours. But store hours are meaningless when the store has no products. My prescriptions are rarely in stock. Things always need to be ordered, and a few times they've even given me an IOU for one or two pills. The lack of stock goes beyond the pharmacy into the actual store. The shelves are always barren save a few dozen units of the same few products. It's really bizarre, and it's a shame because the people who work in the store are generally nice and the hours and location are convenient. I've since gone back to Saldo's. I think their hours have improved, and they, you know, actually have stuff. read more

I used to LOVE this pharmacy because of the varied product line and friendly, excellent service, but had moved out of the area. However, last night, visiting Brooklyn, I made a special trip to City Chemist. I went in and filled my basket. But, I needed two products I could not find. A boy and girl were at the counter. The girl was dipping and munching her french fries. The boy was just standing there. I asked for the products. The girl - without looking up - or ceasing to stuff her mouth - vaguely pointed to two aisles and continued eating. The boy stood there and said nothing. I went down the aisles and came back and said I couldn't find the products. They shrugged. And so, I took the items that were in my basket and put them (where they belonged) back on the shelf. And NEVER EVER will I walk into this - what used to be a favorite - pharmacy again. (Note to manager: I don't blame the kids. Train your people!) read more

This pharmacy has done nothing but handle my medications irresponsibly. I nearly ended up in the hospital because they thought that taking 60mg of amphetamines twice over the course of six hours was the same thing as taking 60mg of amphetamines all at once. I transferred two of my prescriptions here about a month and a half ago because I moved recently. The first one was Vyvanse, a schedule II controlled substance. I was supposed to get 60 pills of 30 milligrams each to take two times per day. This pharmacy gave me the reverse: 30 pills of 60 milligrams each. I am extremely lucky that I noticed a difference in the way the pills looked right before I took a dose because if I took a double dosage of amphetamines I would have ended up in the hospital. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was a mistake. Maybe they just mixed the numbers up, it could happen to anyone. When I went in to ask for it to be switched, they responded by acting like I was the one who was being difficult. They also were short on two pills so told me to go get them the next day. When I came back to get them, I was again given an attitude by one of the men working there because one of the workers didn't tell him I needed to go pick up the rest of my medication. When I told my doctor about this she explained that a lot of pharmacies try to do this with medication that is taken two times per day because it is cheaper and easier. However, given that they didn't ask for my doctor's approval, did not even give me a notice, and did this with a highly controlled and dangerous substance containing amphetamines, this isn't excusable. At this point I was pretty pissed off, but not enough to write a bad review about it. I had my prescriptions transferred to a new pharmacy and tried to put it behind me. Today when I went to pick up my other prescription my insurance blocked it because it had apparently been filled already two weeks ago. I never filled anything. After some digging, I found out that the City Chemist processed a refill as already being PICKED UP and PAID FOR and sent in the claim to my insurance company - all without asking for my permission or letting me know. I have had other pharmacies refill prescriptions without asking me before, which is fine, but never has someone sent in a claim for payment to my insurance company when no services were rendered. Again, when I called to ask them to fix their mistake, I received no apology and they acted like I was the one with the problem. I normally don't make a fuss over issues with companies and try to let most things go, like I tried to with the City Chemist. But the way that they kept conducting business makes me feel as if it is unethical for me to not let other people know. Even if you keep going here, please look up the identifying marks on your pills after receiving them. Just because the label on the bottle says it is correct doesn't mean that the pills inside the bottle are. read more

Sure, someone brand new to the neighborhood might be annoyed they don't carry things Duane Reade does, but this is an actual place where you know your pharmacist and they care about your well being. For a small pharmacy this place tries to do it all I must first Botulph by saying that the store is too small for what it's trying to do they could use another island this place but the staff is always friendly and always trying to help when you are looking for products or have any special requests what more could you ask for from a small place. I can not understand these malcontents, trashing this pharmacy. It is one the very best pharmacies I have ever encountered. The pharmacists are utterly professional and fill prescriptions with great efficiency and dispatch. They are so very nice and they bend over backward for their clientele. Prices are very reasonable and the store is very well stocked with various sundries, etc. I love this place and RECOMMEND it very ardently. After a semi-long and semi-prestigious Yelping career, I retired from the business about two years, handing my tarnished reigns to a younger, more opinionated generation. But the ineptitude of this business inspired me to come back for...just...one....last...review. And I'm so old and crotchety now that I'm mad about a PHARMACY. In all seriousness, be careful. This pharmacy made mistakes the last 3 times I went there. They haven't given me the wrong medicine, to my knowledge, but I'm not going to give them a chance. None of their errors are that egregious on their own (except maybe the last one) but, given that it's 3 IN A ROW, that kind of adds up. Grievances: 1. Gave me the brand name drug instead of the generic, even though the script did not specify brand name. I noticed when the total was almost triple what it normally was. The guy begrudgingly called my dr. and confirmed that the generic would be acceptable, all the while arguing with me that "the script had always been brand name before" (I checked my empty bottle. Generic. Always). 2. Gave me 9 pills instead of 90. Minor inconvenience. Whatever. 3. I switched insurances and, given their less-than-stellar track record, made sure to drill it into Napolitano's heads that this was a new insurance card, that they should delete my old insurance info, that they needed to use the NEW CARD, etc. I'm sure you see where this is going. Long story short, I have now spent a lot of time on the phone with my union and my HR department arguing that actually, I don't owe them for the prescription that was charged to the wrong insurance; Napolitano does. read more

between being unable to charge the correct amount for my prescriptions and being unable to explain why its correct when they do, i just don't trust this place anymore. first i spent a number of hours trying to get a couple of prescriptions with discount cards filled. you'd think i was their first customer. it took me a number of trips back EACH REFILL to get it straightened out. they'd fill the prescription but fail to put it on my insurance. or they'd put it on my insurance but fail to put it on my discount card complete with excuse. ultimately i straightened it out but it took waaay too much time. the final straw - i go to fill a prescription and it costs more than my deductible (red flag!) and i'm given a mishmash of explanations (choose whichever you like!) - my deductible had $75 remaining. (so why am i paying more than that?) my deductible is $100. (once again, why am i paying more than that?) well, you pay the deductible and then you pay more. huh??? then i'm told that my deductible is $200. I get home and call my insurance company - I owe the remainder of the deductible plus the copay. simple, direct, and something the pharmacist was completely unable to communicate. thankfully there is a nice pharmacy near work. read more
